Jack had given up flying. After the wind had dammed him down to the ground numerous times, he decided it was better to find her on foot, clothing the staff as if it were a lifeline, an anchor keeping a ship in place at the wharf. The others are probably looking for me right now, Jack thought, but I need to find Elsa first…
Finding Elsa was going to be extremely difficult though. The ice had begun to take over his body, now both his left and right side were almost frozen solid. The ice on his face rested under his earlobe still, not having budged an inch. For that, he was grateful. It meant that he was still able to see, to find Elsa while he could. Each step though, was complete agony, getting more stiff as he moved, but he was still able to bend his joints slightly.
He thought that knowing someone with the same powers would be easy, since they would have had something to connect with. But instead it turned into a nightmare. People were hurt, or possibly dead because of his foolishness. No, he thought, it was because Elsa ran away….
But he couldn't blame Elsa entirely. It was his fault for not flying her home when he could have. He could have saved everyone the trouble of running after her and himself, but now it was too late. Sure, Pitch was gone, frozen to death, but the same fate awaited Anna. And now him. And that's when he realized it:
He had let the Guardians down. They taught him to protect the children of the world, sometimes adults if they still believed. He hadn't done that.
He had let Kristoff down. Kristoff had to run back, and from what he had earlier almost died after bringing her back, getting stabbed by Pitch, and it was his job as a Guardian to protect anyone who believed. He hadn't done that.
He had let Elsa down. Sharing similar powers, they were able to connect, but now she was somewhere in the castle, lost from him forever. He wanted to tell her how he felt. He hadn't done that.
Most of all though, he had let Anna down. From the start, she had trusted Jack and the other Guardians. Anna had went with him to find Elsa, she had faced off against Pitch with him to save Elsa. And he didn't protect her, so now she was going to freeze to death.
That was because of him.
And he didn't think, in the circumstances that she did freeze before Hans kissed her, that he would ever forgive himself.
