Chapter 14: This is it
Ember and I were all set to go. With a little help from Discord, we were able to get everything to our new house without having to bring it on the train. We had a few bags left and a little bit of food that Ember and I finished for breakfast. I will leave Canterlot tomorrow, on my birthday. Tonight, I would break in the Canterlot Restricted Section and steal dark magic books. My body told me no, but my mind screamed yes. I had to do it, I needed the magic. I needed closure. Night came faster than I thought.
"Ember, are you ready?" I asked him after I heard a knock at the door. I knew it would be Discord. Nopony else would knock at this point in the day.
"I guess." He sighed. I opened the door.
"Come in, Discord." I said. Discord dipped his head.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" He asked.
"Of course! We shall do immediately!" I announced. Discord sighed and lifted me and Ember up. He tucked us under his arms and left my house. He flew us to the castle and near the restricted section. As soon as we landed, I casted an invisibility spell.
"You can still be felt and heard, so be quite." I whispered. "Come on, let's find the book." I added. I heard Discord begin to walk. I put Ember on my back and Discord led us to the restricted section.
"Metal bars." Discord said.
"We can't get through it, can we?" I asked.
"We can, you try." Discord said.
"But when you were locked up..." I said.
"I was cursed. It was hard to do anything." Discord said. I knew he couldn't see it, but I nodded anyway. I walked to the bars and put my two front hooves on the bars and was able to open up a pathway.
"Ember, you wait here, warn us if you see anypony." I whispered.
"Okay." He said and slid off my back. Discord continued to walk. I removed the invisibility on us so we could function. I looked down at my hooves, I was in a black jumpsuit with a hood that went over my mane and pushed my ears down. My tail had been tucked into the suit Discord was in an elongate version of my suit, and Ember I specially made for him. His sharp scales would rip through it, so I enforced the area around his scales with wood.
"So where are the dark magic books?" I asked.
"Here." He said and slipped into an isle of books. He pulled three books off a shelf and one off a podium and passed them to me.
"These are the only dark magic books in all of Equestria. At least the originals." Discord said and winked. He pulled four books from the air and placed three on the shelf and one on the podium.
"Why didn't you just give me those?" I asked.
"The books that you are holding have a special magic power to them. The spells are more effective." Discord said. I looked at them and thought for a moment.
"What if one of the princesses needs the magic?" I asked.
"They know all the spells that they ever use. The books here are only for show." Discord explained. I nodded and recast the invisibility spell.
"Let's go." I said and returned to the place where Ember was waiting for us.
"Aura? Discord?" He asked.
"It's just us." I said. Discord reclined the bars and we got to his room before I lifted the invisibility spell.
"Try something." Discord said. I opened one of my new dark magic books, and found a spell that created dark crystals. I read up on the spell quickly and stood tall. I saved the spell and my horn was surrounded by a dark purple and green aura and my eyes had turned green and a green haze emitted from them. The crystals formed on my horn and fell to the ground. Discord giggled in glee at the crystals and picked them up. He quickly dispelled them.
"I'll take you home. Remember Luna and I will be there early." Discord said.
"I know." I responded. Discord picked up Ember and I and swiftly took us home. I wanted to study the magic, but I knew I needed to be rested up for tomorrow. Ember and I went to bed and drifted off to sleep.
Ember woke me up. He was excited, today we are going to Ponyville, and for him for the first time. So of course he was excited. I was excited too, but for a different reason. I would be able to live without anypony knowing what I'm doing. I would also be able to learn some things about brewing up potions from Zecora. She was getting old, so it would be wise to learn from her swiftly. She and I already were acquainted I would go to her cottage as a young filly.
"Aura! Can you tell me about Ponyville?" Ember said while we waited for Discord and Luna to show up. I quickly finished putting the dark magic books into my bag.
"Well, it is a quaint little town and it is one of the most diverse places in all of Equestria. I grew up there, and it is the home of Sparkle." I said. I had stared to hate the princess. Even her name boiled rage inside of me.
"Oh, can you promise not to do anything stupid?" Ember asked. I nodded.
"I'll do my best." I said. I had just zipped up my bag when I heard Luna and Discord at the door. Ember and I ran to get it, but I teleported to the door to best him to it. I opened the door and gave Luna and Discord a smile.
"Hello, Aura." Luna said.
"Hi Luna!" I cheered. I was trying to push back anything to do with the dark magic.
"I haven't seen you in a while, and unfortunately, I have some duties I need to tend to later." Luna explained.
"Yeah, I've missed you, and I sure will miss you in the years to come." I said. I walked up to Luna and did my best to stand on my hind legs and gave Luna a hug. She wrapped her front hoof around me and dipped her head. I could tell that her wings were open. I felt a tear roll down my face.
"I'm going to miss more than I missed my sister when she trapped me on the moon." Luna said. It was silent again.
"I don't what I'll do. You were like a mother to me." I cried into Luna's coat. Luna stroked my mane.
"It will be okay Aura. You are a very strong mare. You hear?" Luna asked. I regained my composure and set my hooves back on the ground.
"I'll be okay. I'm fine." I said while I wiped the tears away from my eyes.
"How about we go to the best cafe in Canterlot and have some tea or something of the likes?" Luna asked.
"I would love that." I said.
"Well, hold on, I'll fly you over and Discord, you got Ember?" Luna offered.
"Of course." Dais cord said and flew around Luna and picked up Ember. Luna put me on her back and they flew high over Canterlot. Luna and Discord took them to the edge of Canterlot and landed in front of a cafe that read "Edge Cafe."
"You took me to the Edge?" I asked. Luna smiled and nodded.
"Of course, I know this is your favorite place." Luna said with a subtle wink. Discord landed with Ember.
"But this place is so expensive." I reminded her. Luna opened her wings.
"I'm the princess of the night, remember?" Luna said. I looked at her wings then her horn.
"Heh, right." I said and looked to the doors. Luna giggled.
"Come on, I'm anxious for some breakfast." Luna said. I nodded. Ember hurried to my side and scurried up onto my back. Luna, Discord and I hurried into the cafe. The waitress bowed as soon as Luna entered.
"Hello, Princess. Usual spot?" She asked.
"Yes please." Luna responded.
"One moment." She said and trotted into another room and returned soon. "And may I ask who's with you, Princess?" The waitress asked.
"You remember me telling you about my student, correct?" Luna asked.
"Yes, Princess." She responded.
"This is her, Aura Bliss. We are celebrating her birthday, graduation, and departure from Canterlot. The red and orange dragon is her assistant, Ember. I'm also sure you know Discord." Luna explained.
"My pleasure to meet you Aura Bliss and Ember." She said to Ember and me. The waitress turned back to Luna. "Yes, Princess, I know of Discord. I never thought to meet him in pony." She said. Discord looked a little irritated.
"Can you just take us to our table?" Discord demanded.
"You better hurry, Tea Saucer, he can do some crazy things when he is bored." Luna whispered.
"Right this way." The waitress said and picked up four menus with her unicorn magic and took them to a raised spot. I used my magic to pull out a chair for myself and Ember. The waitress pulled out a chair for Luna and Discord. She set the menus down and walked off. I looked out the window and I saw a forest.
"Hey Ember." I said.
"Yes, Aura?" He asked. See that forest down there?" I asked. Ember nodded. "If you look to the left, you'll see Ponyville, my hometown." I said. Ember looked at it.
"It looks small." He pointed out.
"It is, but it is a nice place to live." I said. Ember sighed.
"What's that other forest?" He asked pointing a large grouping of trees.
"That's an apple orchard. Sweet Apple Acres, if memory serves correct." I responded. I looked at the menu and quickly read over it. I began my process of deciding what I would want for my last breakfast in Canterlot, more like my last meal in Canterlot, as my train was leaving at 11:30 and it was 9 already. The waitress returned shortly after.
"Hello, for those of you who don't know, I am Tea Saucer. How can I help you?" She asked.
"The usual." Luna said. Tea Saucer wore something down and looked to Discord.
"For you?" She asked.
"I'll have some honey tea." Discord said.
"And to eat?"
"Two wheat muffins and a Swiss and rye sandwich." Discord said. Tea Saucer wrote down Discord's order. She looked at Ember.
"Lemonade and oatmeal." He quickly said.
"What are your specialties?" I asked.
"We actually got a shipment in from Ponyville, Miss Applejack's apple fritters." She said.
"I'll take two of those and some peppermint tea." I said. Tea Saucer nodded finished her writing and hurried off to the kitchen. She returned in a record time and gave us our food. I bit into the apple fritter, and it was the best food I have had in a while. We finished our meal in about a half an hour and we paid and left.
"We have time to go to the statue garden?" Luna asked. I nodded.
"Let's go." I said. Luna and Discord took us in the same fashion as before. We sat down together in the statue garden; we had a conversation like best friends do. We were just relaxing. The time for me to leave came too soon. I knew I would rarely be able to visit, and they did too. Luna and Discord took us to the train station.
"I still need my bags." I said. Discord snapped his fingers.
"They're here." He said and gave Ember and me our bags. Ember picked up his bag and I lifted my two bags with magic. My eyes filled with tears again.
"Thanks for your knowledge and faith in me, Luna." I said.
"It was my pleasure, Aura." She reminded me. I went to Discord next. He picked me up and gave me a hug too.
"Thanks for believing in me." I whispered. He gave a slight nod that I could feel.
"Thank you, Aura Bliss for giving me a true friend." He said.
"You have Luna now too." I said.
"Yeah, but I'm still missing out on two." He said.
"Don't worry, everything will be okay." I said. It was silent again. Luna and Ember joined in the hug; it was only released because the conductor yelled at me to get the train. I stepped in and took my spot and sat down by an empty spot in the window. Ember sat next to me.
"I feel weird." He said.
"I do too, Ember. It's fine. You're going to love Ponyville." I said. "I'll have to take you to visit Zecora someday." I said. Ember simply nodded. The train ride was silent for us until we got to Ponyville. I gave the town a smile before I led Ember home where our things would be waiting for us. I opened the door and looked at the house.
"Is this our new house?" He asked.
"New for you." I said.
"Did you grow up here?" Ember asked. I nodded.
"Let's start to make this house a home." I said and opened a box with my magic.
