Prologue: Part Two
Rosalie paraded down the elongated hallway in her parents' mansion, with more skin shown than covered. Her diminutive black shorts barely covered half of her thigh and her black tank top, -embedded with rhinestones spelling out her name- stuck close to her upper frame.
"Mom, where are you?!"
Rebecca smirked, as she flipped through fashion sketches, "Dining room!"
Rose advanced down the staircase and noticed her house busier than downtown Seattle during rush-hour. The maids were cleaning, the butler was standing next to the door, and Rebecca's assistant was pacing back and forth while arguing with someone on the phone, the pool boy was late once again and rushing to the backdoor with all of his supplies, and the cook and his assistants were loading groceries into the house.
She pranced into the dining room to see her mother and brother. Jasper sat in his dark blue boxers and white tank top while drinking his power protein smoothie the chef whipped up for him. Rebecca flipped through her fashion schemes as Laura, her assistant rolled in a rack full of her new designs.
"Sweetheart, what do you think of these?" Rebecca held up two hangers with two completely different dresses on them, "Which one would you model if you had the choice?"
Rosalie's t-shirt slightly lifted as she reached forward for an apple, "The one on the left is cute! The other one looks like something grandma would wear!"
Jasper nearly choked on his smoothie from the sudden laugh that escalated from the pit of his stomach. Rose high-fived her brother as she flopped into the seat next to him. She bit into her apple as Maria set Rosalie's usual smoothie down in front of her.
"Thank you." Maria nodded her head before exiting the dining room.
Riley burst through the front door, "Rose! Jasper! Where are your rich asses?!" Emmett and Alice shook their heads as they followed behind him.
"Ms. Rosalie and Mr. Jasper are in the dining room." the butler informed, closing the door behind them.
Rebecca's pen dropped out of her hand, as she leaned back into her seat and crossed her arms, "Riley." She sent a disapproving look towards the three teenagers who made the most unsophisticated entrance.
"Sorry Mrs. H." Riley murmured.
The twins silently laughed as they watched their best friends earn a silent scolding from their mother. Rebecca didn't need to use words. Her looks spoke for her. "What is that you're drinking Mrs. Hale?" Riley took a seat next to her.
Alice and Emmett quickly took a hold of two seats beside their significant other. Rebecca looked up through her reading glasses, "I'm indulging in a glass of crushed grapes."
"So, you're drinking grape juice?"
Maria rushed out of the kitchen, holding a tray of the guests' favorite smoothie drinks.
"No," Rebecca smirked and patted Riley's hand, "It's wine."
Riley nodded his head in understanding, "I get it now."
Rosalie, Jasper, Emmett and Alice all laughed at their friend's confused expression. They know him enough to know that he's still confused. He doesn't understand…and he most likely never will unless someone explains it to him.
"Are you all excited to go to the lake house for spring break?!" Rebecca asked, closing the portfolio, "Here Laura." she paused as her assistant took hold of the folder, "Get Felix and Demetri. Tell them to take this rack upstairs."
Jasper handed his empty smoothie cup over to Maria, "Not really. We've done this since we were six. It's getting pretty old." Rose nodded in agreement.
"Well, perk up little ones! We're going to have fun!" Rebecca chirped, rising from her seat, "Oh, please no interruptions or loud noise. I have to do some paperwork for Worthington Worldwide, pack and later I'm going to be having a meeting for Worthington Consulting in my office."
Trent, the pool boy, reentered the house, holding his net and his basket of chemicals that cleaned the pool, "Good morning." Rose smiled and nodded in his direction.
"You guys don't have a separate door for the help?!" Riley laughed, watching as Trent slowly walked pass him, "You guys should seriously invest in that?"
Alice loudly joined in as Riley tried to hold himself together. Trent quickly picked up his pace as he headed towards the front door. Maria exited from the kitchen to collect the remainder of their empty glasses. Emmett gave her a genuine smile before looking back at his friends, "So, what's the plan for tonight?"
"Party, of course!"
Riley flopped back in his seat after answering Emmett. Alice slid off her flip flops and brought her knees to her chest, "What's the deal with the parents?" She sat comfortably in the dining room chair. Emmett shrugged his shoulders, "They're both off. They'll be home packing for tomorrow." A light bulb went off above Riley's head, causing him to pull out his cell phone.
"Luckily, I have a backup plan!" Riley exited the dining room in order to make a phone call.
Bradley Hale rushed down the staircase, "Jasper!" He was already running late, and he couldn't afford to be any later, "Rosalie!"
"We're in the dining room!" The twins answered in unison.
Brad entered the dining room and acknowledged their friends, before turning to face his children, "I'm packed. Your mother is in the process of packing, which will probably take hours. And I'm hoping you two are all packed up and ready to go. Even though you're all riding together with Riley, we're going to take your luggage down with us."
Maria rushed into the dining room, "Here you go sir." She handed him his to-go cup of coffee, made to perfection, just the way he likes it.
"I'm almost done."
Bradley was satisfied with his son's answer. He turned to face his daughter, waiting for hers, "I'm about to start," she saw the look on his face, "once you leave."
"I expect bags packed and by the door by the time I come home from work."
"Bye Mr. H!" Emmett, Alice and Riley called out, as Riley came back over to the table.
Once the front door closed, Riley dropped his cell onto the table. A Cheshire grin stretched across his face, "We're renting Joe's Bar and Grill from ten p.m. to three a.m. Joe agreed to it…once I said I'll double the pay." Riley informed, as Alice clapped her hands, excitedly, "It feels so good to be rich!"
"I was thinking for the time being we can go to the pool, especially since pool boy just cleaned it." Jasper mentioned, with Emmett and Riley quickly agreeing.
Rose shook her head, "Alice and I need to go pack my suitcase." Alice rose from her seat.
"You're lost." Rosalie waved Riley off with the swift movement of her hand.
Emmett and Riley headed to the back door, as Jasper headed out of the dining room, "I'll meet you guys out there. Let me run upstairs and change into my swim shorts." He raced past Rosalie and Alice as they slowly walked up the stairs.
"Mom!" Rose smiled, "Jasper's running up the stairs again, after you specifically told him not to after the last incident!"
He slowed down, "Snitch." The smile on her face grew as she sent her brother a teasing wink.
Alice laughed, "Why don't you just get Ashley to pack your bags?" She grabbed onto Rose's hand to pull her up the rest of the stairs. The two were soon enough inside of Rosalie's bedroom.
"Because she may pack things I don't like." Rose remarked, opening her closet, "Besides I don't trust her."
Alice flipped through the many outfits owned by Rosalie, "You don't trust anyone!" She chuckled. Her laughter came to a stop when she took a step back in order to take in Rose's closet as a whole, "How is it that your closet is so organized?"
"Ashley and Olivia." Rose led Alice towards the spring section in her closet.
"I thought you didn't trust Ashley."
"I don't, but I trust Olivia."
Olivia was Rebecca's nanny as a child. Rebecca couldn't bear the thought of losing her as an adult, and assigned her to be Rosalie and Jasper's nanny. When Jasper and Rosalie became teenagers, she allowed Olivia to move in and care after their home, the staff and their family. She was the mother Rebecca always wanted. Rose and Jasper grew up with Olivia. She helped raise them. She was family. Ashley, however, only started working for her parents three years ago. She was only staff. Rose didn't know her long enough to consider her family. All of the mansion staff had to earn her trust. She didn't just hand it out like candy.
"Oh my gosh!" Alice broke Rosalie out of her thoughts, "I've never seen this before in stores!" She pulled the plastic hanger off of the rail.
Rose shrugged her shoulders, "That's because it was never in stores."
"Huh?"
"Rebecca Hale…my mother, the fashion designer remember." Rose reminded, flipping through different articles of clothing. Occasionally, she would pull something off of the hanger and hold onto it.
"Oh yeah!" Alice clenched the dress to her chest, "Can I borrow it?! It's so sexy! I want to wear it tonight!" She held it up to her body while looking at herself in the mirror.
"You can have it." Rosalie told her, "Pink really isn't my color."
"Seriously?!" She nodded. "You are the best friend a girl can ask for!" Alice pecked her best friend's cheek.
"Yeah. I know."
Edward leaned against the threshold of his mother's door, staring at her pale and frail body sleep. Elizabeth looked so peaceful. If it wasn't for the fact that her chest was rising so high and falling so low, Edward would have thought she was dead.
Bella cleared her throat, "They're here."
He gently and quietly shut his mother's door before following Bella down the creaking stairs.
Jacob flopped down onto the old, worn-out blue sofa, "How is she?"
"Good." He reached into his pocket and pulled out a newspaper clipping, "Considering it's been two days since she ran out of medicine."
"This isn't fair! Elizabeth is such a sweet lady! Why should she have to suffer?" Renesme's anger seeped bitterly through her words. Life wasn't fair. It should be, and she isn't willing to accept that it will never be.
"Nessie is right!" Bella nodded.
"We need info. How would we know when to grab them?" Edward wondered, handing his fiancée the newspaper clipping.
Renesme clenched her eyes shut, "We can go to Joe's Bar & Grill tonight." She kept her eyes closed and began to rub away the stress lines appearing on her forehead.
"Elaborate." Edward pushed on, approaching her.
"Seems Riley rented the place for a big party tonight…Who does that?! Who wastes thousands of dollars for one stupid night of partying and drinking?! It just isn't fair! If we had that money we would spend it on paying for Elizabeth's medicine and our student loans!"
"We're going to go to that party." Edward asserted, glancing at the clock, "We're going to find out as much information as we can on when they're going to the lake house, how they are getting there, and what time they are leaving…"
"What about Rosalie?" Jacob spoke up.
Renesme quickly glanced in his direction, "What about her?"
"She's not like the rest of them. Blondie actually gives them a run for their money."
"You need to handle whatever type of crush you have on her!"
"I don't have a crush." Jacob sighed, breaking eye contact with Renesme, "She's not my type. She's too…um…blonde. I'm just-"
"You can insult her all you want, but it just shows how much you really like her."
"Alright!" Edward rose from his seat, "Jacob, are you in?"
"Of course!"
"Then no more about Rosalie! Deal?"
Jacob glanced around the room at all six pair of eyes staring at him. His head slowly nodded causing a smile to stretch across Edward's face. "Then it's settled."
-Tiffany.
