Living Nightmare
"If you so much as touch a hair on my daughter's head, I will hang you myself!" Pierce shouted into the phone, earning a calculated laugh from Renesme.
Edward snatched the phone out of Renesme's hands, "In a few minutes I will call and give you the account number. I want the money wired to it. At six-thirty I will check the account; if it's there I will release your children, if it isn't…"
Jillian flopped down onto the couch in a complete panic. The kidnapper didn't finish his sentence. He allowed for the parents to fill in the threatening blank. Carlisle snatched the phone from Pierce, "What if we say no? What if we decide to call the cops instead?"
"Go right ahead," Edward smirked, "If you do, you might as well save your money. And I'll tell your kids goodbye for you."
Rebecca rushed to the cell, "No cops! You want eight million dollars in total by six o'clock. We understand…just please don't hurt our children."
Esme's eyes grew wide at the sound of the dial tone. She didn't know how to take that response. The older Cullen lifted her hand and rubbed against the forming stress lines upon her forehead, "We should call the police."
"It won't fix anything," Jillian shouted, running her fingers through her long, brunette hair, "It'll just increase the chances of them killing our children!"
"It will also increase the chance of us finding them," Pierce added, agreeing with his best friend's wife.
Bradley shook his head, "No. I don't like those odds."
"This isn't a business deal," Carlisle shouted, trembling where he stood.
"It is! It is like a business deal, and I am doing risk management," Bradley explained, approaching his two best friends, "I am not risking my kids' life because you three think it's the best thing to do!"
Rebecca wrapped her gentle hand around her husband's forearm. She understood why he was upset. They all were, but now was not the time to turn on each other. They needed to work together and stay in agreement with one another.
"We should go find them," Grant spoke up.
"Where do we start?" Rebecca turned to face Mr. Biers, "What if we're all gone and he calls back? We need to stick together!" Esme's nod backed up Mrs. Hale's declaration. Rebecca turned to face Alice's father, "And no more threatening and antagonizing this guy," her eyes drifted to her husband, "Right now, they call the shots! Now let's get a start on that wire transfer!"
Once those words left Rebecca's mouth, Bradley's cell phone started to ring. They automatically knew who it was as Jasper's name lit across the screen. He shakily slid his finger against the answer icon, before placing the device on speaker. "The account number is 0450749817. You already know the deal, by the time you'll be able to track it, I will be long gone."
Edward hung up the cell phone and sighed in accomplishment. As long as he kept them frightened, he had the control. Bella noticed the smile pulling at her boyfriend's face, "Were they afraid?"
"Yeah," he nodded, setting the phone down on top of the nightstand, "It'll all be over in a couple of hours."
"They're such cowards."
Jacob remained in and out of the conversation as he and Renesme played video games on the adjustable and small television they brought to the abandoned house. Edward's eyes occasionally drifted to the vulgar display of violence and nudity. His head shook in disapproval, "I'm going back downstairs."
The game paused due to Jacob's controller. He rose to his feet, and handed Bella his control, "I'm going with you." Jacob flashed Bella a smile as she took over his seat, "Don't let her win."
"Why does he get to go with you?" Renesme picked up the large rifle leaning against her feet, "I have the manpower and I won't back down if you tell me to shoot."
"I need you to be the lookout. Make sure no one is coming."
Renesme set the rifle down, "Bella can do that."
"I'm not arguing with you!" Edward turned on his heel and followed Jacob towards the basement, storage room.
As Jacob sprung open the door, he allowed for Edward to enter first. Each head shot up in a panic. They feared for their lives every time one of them came downstairs.
The young Mason smiled as he shut the door behind himself and Jacob "Is everyone comfortable?"
"Screw you," Riley growled, spitting in Edward's direction.
Edward reached against the wall and grabbed a fully loaded rifle. He stormed towards the unsuspecting victim and shoved the barrel against his throat, "Oh yeah?"
"I need to use the restroom." Rosalie announced, attempting to pull their attention away from Riley, "I've been holding my bladder for at least an hour."
"Well hold it longer,"
"I really need to go."
Edward nodded for Jacob to approach Rosalie, "Take her to the bathroom and do not allow her to lock the door…and if she tries to fight back…" Edward smiled, "you know?" Jacob untied the tight ropes binding Rosalie to the metal chair. He gripped her wrist and pulled her to her feet.
"Rose, don't fight back." Jasper asserted, hearing her footsteps walk away, "Please for me."
Edward closed the door and locked it behind him as Jacob led Rosalie carefully up the stairs. Renesme and Bella looked over their shoulders at the approaching footsteps, "What's she doing up here?"
"She has to use the restroom," Jacob answered, leading her up the second flight of stairs. For her best interest, he decided to take her to the third floor restroom. Renesme absolutely hated her, and he preferred if she was not in the presence of someone who despised her so much.
"Why are you doing this?"
"It's for a good reason," Jacob explained, leading her down the long hallway, "I wouldn't do this to you if it wasn't. Everything I said at that party was true. We're here," he opened the bathroom door, and led her inside.
Rosalie waited to hear the door close behind her before pulling off her blindfold. She didn't lock the restroom because it was one of Edward's requirements. Rose didn't know what he was capable of, and she didn't want to test him. As she used the restroom, her eyes scanned her surroundings. She was on the third floor, and there was nothing in the restroom, but a dwindling bar of soap. There was no weapon she could stash and no window she could crawl out of. They had everything covered.
As Jacob paced in front of the bathroom door, his fingers tapped anxiously against his legs. He was finally alone…with Rosalie! This was absolutely a dream come true for him. He heard the toilet flush, which triggered for his subconscious to open the door. Rosalie's eyes met his and he instantly felt tugs at his fragile heart. It was good that they had blindfolds. He couldn't imagine staring into her innocent eyes every time he entered the storage room.
"Where's your blind fold?" She rubbed soap all around her perfect hands.
Her shoulders shrugged, "I don't know."
Rosalie looked up at her puffy eyes in the mirror. She looked tired and worn out, but from the looks of Jacob as he watched her in the mirror, it didn't deter his crush. He stepped closer towards her, and laughed, "I know you're lying." His finger twirled a strand of her blond hair.
"Stop," she shrugged him off of her.
Her hands nervously scrubbed at the soap on her hands. She continued to stare at her reflection in the mirror, as her subconscious couldn't help but notice the infatuating look Jacob passed her way.
"I'm not supposed to like you."
"Then don't!" She shouted, turning off the faucet water. Rosalie quickly moved to face Jacob. Her back was uncomfortably pressed against the sink as he stood chest to chest with her, "I don't like you. I'll never like you, especially after this shit you're pulling! You're crazy! You're sick," she lowered her voice and glared into his eyes; "You rather take us and ransom us than earn money for yourself. I would never be with someone like that. All of you need help, especially if you think you're going to get out of here without getting caught."
Jacob's expression didn't change or contort to the angry words she tossed his way. He lifted his hand and rested the back of it against her cheek, "You don't mean any of that."
"I mean everything," His lips desperately pressed against hers as his hands continually wiped away her tears. This was everything to him. If Jacob were to die, he would die a happy man. While he was content with Renesme, he always wanted the one person he knew he couldn't have, and that was Rosalie.
She pushed him away from her, and slapped him across the face. He kicked the door shut, and angrily approached her, "Why'd you do that?"
"What part of I don't like you don't you understand?" She backed further away from Jacob until she was practically sitting on the sink, "I love Emmett. I'll always love him, no matter what you say or do. If you don't understand that, then you're crazier than I thou-" Her words were cut off by the grip of his strong hand around her neck. She clawed her nails into his skin, but it didn't seem to make him flinch.
His eyes grew wide in desperation as his grip tightened, "I have this deep infatuation with you. Why can't you see that? Everyone sees it, but you!" His free hand shook against his side uncontrollably, "Even my girlfriend sees it, but you can't seem to notice. Maybe you're the crazy one?"
Rosalie frantically reached around for something to defend herself with, but the bathroom was empty. She had no way of stopping Jacob. He held determination and anger in his brown eyes, and talking him down wasn't going to do the trick.
"Hey Jacob, what's tak-"
Edward came to an abrupt stop after opening the restroom door. His eyes immediately landed on Jacob's hand wrapped tightly around their cash prize's throat. Her face was as blue as a blueberry and her eyes begged with Edward's to help her.
"Stop," he pulled him away from Rosalie, "What the hell do you think you're doing?! Killing them was never a part of the plan! If she's dead, then we lose a payday! And my mom-" Edward cut himself off at the thought, "Don't screw this up for me…or you'll be the one that gets strangled. Rosalie, let's go."
"I…I lost her blindfold." Jacob spoke up as he backed away from his coughing crush.
"Forget about it…they already saw our faces."
The young Mason grabbed the woman's arm and pulled her down the two flights of stairs. He shoved her against the wall as he unlocked the storage closet. Edward pushed her into the room, "Sit down and don't move." He turned on the light before retying the ropes around her hands. After assuring that Rosalie's ropes were tied, he took the blindfold off of Alice, Emmett, Jasper and then finally Riley.
It took mere seconds for their eyes to adjust to the bright light. They scanned the room and each other. "I'll leave the light on and the blind folds off," He whispered, backing out of the storage room. At the sound of the door being locked, Rosalie loudly exhaled a breath she didn't realize she was holding in. Alice met her best friend's eyes, "Are you alright? What happened to your neck?"
Emmett looked over immediately, "Did Jacob do that? I'll kill him."
"Why did he do that Rose?" Jasper fidgeted worriedly in his seat. He had to know in order to make sure it didn't happen again.
"I was mad," Rosalie wearily whispered, "He started making moves on me…in our current situation, besides the fact that he wasn't my boyfriend, I found it completely inappropriate. I was honest with him," she stretched her neck as she could feel the bruises forming, "I told him what I honestly thought of him. If Edward didn't come up when he did,"
"He's no hero," Riley spat, rolling his eyes.
"If he didn't come up when he did, I would be dead!" She hollered, talking over Riley's undertone comments, "Now I'm not saying he's a saint, but he did save my life. And I don't think he's going to kill us."
Alice nodded assuredly, "We saw their faces. I know they're going to kill us."
"I don't think he wants to kill us. I think if we listen and our parents do what they say, we'll get out of here…untouched."
Emmett met his girlfriend's desperate eyes, "Babe, are you sure? I don't want to take the chance of something happening to you…to anyone of you."
"I can't be 100% sure," she bit down onto her bottom lip, "but Edward has a bigger reason for the money and it involves his mom."
"Do you know what it is?" Jasper asked, leaning forward to look around Emmett to meet his sister's eyes. Her head shook.
Riley rolled his eyes, "Of course you don't! They kidnapped us for their own selfish ploys at getting our hard earn money Rosalie! And you can sit here all you want, but the moment I see an opening, I'm taking it! You can stay here if you want, but I'm leaving."
"Riley, calm down." Alice whispered.
"No! She wants to sit here and allow for these criminals to get away with our money!"
"No!" Jasper defended, "She wants us to sit here and survive! If you try to run, there is no telling what they'll do!"
"I'm willing to take that risk."
Emmett quickly looked in Riley's direction. The only person Riley cared about was himself. His loyalty wasn't as strong and high. They had each other to think about. "You can take all the risk you want, but don't drag me, Rose, Alice and Jasper down with you. Sorry buddy, but you're on your own." At the end of Emmett's statement, the locked door was swiftly unlocked and opened. Edward and Bella stood under the threshold of the door, with Renesme closely behind them holding a rifle in her claws.
