A/N: This chapter gave me a bit of a hard time. I hope it turned out ok! This was written for the spell, curse, and charms challenge with tergeo (write about Hermione) as the prompt, the Off the Block Competition for butterfly, medium (the burrow), and the Wand Wood Challenge with vine for the prompt (write about Hermione Granger). Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter. JK Rowling does.
Fred had told George about the baby the same evening Hermione had told him, so she didn't think he'd mind when she told everybody else. She thought about telling Ron and Harry together, but she decided to tell them that night at the weekly dinner at the Burrow.
Hermione felt Fred's arms wrap around her from behind, and smiled as he kissed her. His eyes were dancing when she turned to look at him. "Are you nervous?"
She shrugged lightly. "A little…mostly because I know how your mother can be."
He chuckled and nodded in agreement. "George and I could lock her somewhere if she gets too overwhelming. Or we could prank her or something."
Hermione laughed softly and smacked him on the shoulder. "Be nice!" she scolded. "That's your mother."
"She expects it from us," Fred said, as he laughed. He winked at Hermione as she pushed him. "Come on, we'll be late for dinner."
"Fred Weasley is actually trying to be on time?" Hermione teased, widening her eyes in shock.
"Watch it," Fred replied as they both laughed before they Apparated.
The Burrow was chaotic when they arrived. Ginny rushed over and hugged Hermione and Fred when they arrived. Ron was the last person to arrive, and they sat down at the table shortly after that.
Hermione's nerves were building as they began eating, and she couldn't focus on the conversations around her. She nodded when appropriate, and laughed absentmindedly when she completely missed something. Fred squeezed her hand comfortingly and leaned over to kiss her cheek. "It'll be ok," he murmured. She nodded and saw Mrs. Weasley smiling happily at them.
"How are the wedding plans coming along, Hermione dear?" she asked.
Hermione could feel her face grow warm, though she wasn't sure why. "Good, good. Everything's coming together."
"You let me know if you need anything. I only want the best for you and Fred. I have planned my fair share of weddings."
Her nerves continued to grow as she nodded, so she decided to get the announcement over with. Fred was letting her be the one to tell everyone else. She cleared her throat nervously and looked around the table.
"Excuse me, everyone…I..I have an announcement to make." Conversations stopped, and heads turned their. Fred's face lit up and he reached for her hand. Hermione closed her eyes and allowed his happiness to calm her. After all, his reaction was the only one that mattered. She could get through this as long as she had his support. She paused to give him a grateful look and kissed him lightly on the cheek.
"Yes, dear?" Mrs. Weasley asked her, looking concerned.
Hermione started smiling as she looked at everyone. "I'm pregnant," she said as she glanced at Fred again. "We're pregnant. I just found out the other day, and-"
She glanced around the table and was shocked when Fred's parents started laughing. "Oh, that was a good prank, dear. I should've known that Fred would make you a prankster."
Hermione's eyes widened in surprise. "No, I really am," she insisted as she looked at Fred and George for help.
Fred frowned at his family members and wrapped an arm around her protectively. "I wouldn't joke about something like this," he said defensively, and George nodded.
"Freddie told me first. He wouldn't make something like that up."
Mrs. Weasley gasped and her hands went to her mouth. "Oh, but you are much too young to be pregnant! You aren't even married yet!" she scolded as she shook a finger at them.
"Ginny's pregnant," Fred argued, giving his younger sister a look. Ginny glared at him, but he held up Hermione's hand. "And we're engaged. I'm sorry we didn't wait until we were married, but I love Hermione."
"And I love Fred," Hermione added quickly so he wouldn't be the only one defending them.
"I think that's fantastic news," Ron muttered quietly. The truth didn't meet his eyes right away, but Hermione and Fred glanced at him in surprise anyway. "You two will make great parents. You deserve to be happy."
Hermione's eyes suddenly grew teary and she threw her arms around him. "Oh, Ron!" He seemed stunned to have gotten this reaction and awkwardly patted her back. "Thank you," she muttered. She had been worried about their friendship since Fred proposed to her, but this confirmed that he supported it now. "This means a lot to me."
Ron nodded awkwardly, and Fred grinned at him. "Thanks, little brother."
Ron's reaction seemed to have made Mrs. Weasley approve. She walked over to Fred and Hermione and wrapped them both in a hug. "Oh, I'm sorry you two. I'm just surprised that you didn't wait until the wedding. I never thought that you would be the one who didn't wait," she said to Hermione, and Hermione grew uncomfortable. She didn't want to defend her choices, but she hated the accusation tone she was getting from her.
Mrs. Weasley suddenly grew happier. "We're having another grandbaby! I'm going to make you a blanket for Christmas! Oh, and baby clothes-"
"That's not necessary Mrs. Weasley," Hermione began to say, but Mrs. Weasley cut herself off.
"Oh, but it is. And you can call me mother or Molly." Everybody else started to congratulate them again, and happily began making plans.
Hermione suddenly knew who the baby's godfather was going to be after she met Ron's eyes again as he congratulated her. The truth seemed to have met his eyes, and she knew that things were going to be better between them from now on. She couldn't wait to talk this over with Fred.
