"So Dick," I hung out in Wayne Manor for a while so we could play a bit of basketball and cool off after everything that's happened lately. "It's been a while since the Watchtower incident. You think about my offer?" Robin took a shot and got it in with a swish. "I talked to Bruce and he agreed with me." I tossed the ball back to him and he took another shot, but missed this time, so it was my turn to shoot. "I don't know Jake… I've never led a team before. I'm more used to working with Bruce." I took my shot, which hit the backboard but bounced right off the rim, and Dick caught it to shoot next. "What happened in the tower, that was a fluke. The Justice League was in trouble and I just took charge based on the team members' individual skills. I don't have what it takes to lead a team." His shot made it in the net, but I caught it and spun it on my finger. "Tell you what," I bargained with him. "I make it in the basket, you take the position." He looked at where I was then to the net. "Seriously? Fine… but you gotta shoot from half court. Not even you could make that." I smirked and walked over to half court.
Legendary Scorpio
Chapter 2
"How?" Robin and Scorpio… "How what?" were flying… "I don't understand." in the Batplane… "You didn't know?" on course… "Know what?" to Jump City. "I was Junior Varsity in my high school's basketball team. Eric was point guard. They called me the Half Court King because I never missed a shot from half court." Robin just stared at me. "It's true. I didn't even use my powers to make that shot. Though, after I got my powers… I had to stop playing sports altogether." I spent the rest of the flight explaining what Robin had to do. "So I have a friend who lives over in Jump City. He told me he was moving away from Metropolis to somewhere where he's pretty much a nobody." "Do you know why?" I simply shrugged. "Well… next time I gamble, I'm betting something impossible for you." He said to me. "Oh yeah? Try me, Robin." "Try beating me in a fight." For a while, we flew in silence. "Who's the one flying the plane?" I said to him after breaking the silence. "Would've been me if I could get my driver's license." Robin retorted.
"There an airport around here?" I asked, looking around. "Not really. Bats usually just leaves it where he stops." Robin replied. "Right. I forgot about Batman." The plane stopped above the destination and Robin tapped me on the shoulder. "Ever go skydiving?" I smirked and opened the top, "Just try and keep up." Then jumped out with Robin coming after me.
A little bit of freefalling later and I made a parachute out of my webs while Robin flew like the Bat. A while later, I hear police sirens. "Robin!" "Way ahead of you!" Robin banked towards the sound of the siren and I continued freefalling again after him. I landed on a rooftop close by to Robin, who was giggling like a nutjob… again… because he's Robin. "Who's there?" I heard the guy the cops were chasing call out. He pulls out a crowbar, then Robin flings one of his birdarangs at him. Robin jumped down and landed in front of him, causing him to run the other way… right into a trap I had set for him. The guy tripped on a strand of web, then I dropped down and threw him into a wall. "Hey, you're…" He couldn't finish his sentence. "What's the matter?" I kneeled down and stared him in the eye. "You scared of me?" "No… I don't know who are you?"
"Was stringing him up to a lamppost and covering his mouth with webbing necessary?" Robin and I were laying back on a rooftop a while later. "You heard him. He didn't know who I was." "Oh, Mr. Legendary Scorpio doesn't have any fans in Jump City." I was about to spray webbing in his face when we both saw a green shooting star streak across the sky. "You know what they say about shooting stars, right?" A few seconds later, there was an explosion downtown. "Yeah, they're really meteors! And this one just hit downtown!" I looked at him and smirked. "Loser buys pizza for the winner!"
I beat him to the site of the crash and he was right behind me. "Webbing my feet to the ground is cheating." Robin saw the crash site and walked over to investigate. "Hey… there's someone in the smoke." I said to him. The smoke cleared and there was an orange skinned lady with glowing green eyes and dark red hair was standing there with some kind of space age handcuffs. "Robin… the buzz in my head is telling me that we should get everyone out of here." The lady slid down the crater while speaking some kind of weird language. Not even my super translator could translate it, but it sounded urgent. She acted drunk or something and walked menacingly towards a group of people. "Can't she speak English?" A guy took a picture and the flash must've scared her because she went nuts and started destroying everything. Then she slammed the handcuffs into the column holding the balcony up. "That's not good!" I ran over to it then jumped up to the wall, shooting strands of webbing to each side to make sure the balcony doesn't collapse.
I couldn't do much to help, since the alien was about to strike the column again. Robin threw one of his birdarangs at her and kept her from hitting it again. Everybody ran off the patio and I was able to release it, and it didn't crumble. I swung over to Robin's side as he asked who the green glowy eyed girl was. She responded by trying to smack us with the bindings, but we leapt out of the way, causing her to hit the street… which destroyed it. "Robin! We gotta end this, quickly." "Before she destroys downtown, I know." Robin and I planned through the comm links. "But how?" The girl continued to try and fight Robin, but he kept stepping back and dodging her attacks, eventually trying to throw a little grenade to do something. 'Maybe reasoning with her…' I was almost about to walk over when she picked a car up with one foot and chucked it at Robin. He ducked, and the car went flying. "Whoa! We cannot mess around with this." I said while I swung in to try and kick her into a building. All of a sudden a green ram ran over and rammed her out of my path. I was distracted by the green animal and didn't notice what was going on until it was too late. "Oh crap!" I looked forward just in time to slam right into the building I planned on kicking the alien into.
The green ram then transformed into… a kid? As I walked over, he saluted Robin for some strange reason and introduced himself as Beast Boy, a former member of the Doom Patrol. "You're Robin, aren't you?" He asked him. "Last I checked, yes." Robin replied as I picked Beast Boy up by the collar. "And you're Scorpio, right? I've heard of you guys." His enthusiasm died quickly as he saw my less-than-enthusiastic face. "I've heard of you guys." I said to him. "Back when I started, I wanted to join them, but Mento said he didn't want a kid on their team." "Oh man! I'm really sorry, sir! Please don't hurt me!" He started cowering in my hand, but I just grinned and put him down. "No big." Beast Boy stood up and looked surprised. "If he let me on his team, I wouldn't have joined the Justice League, and you wouldn't have been on their team. You guys did good work together." "Guys!" Robin yelled. "Let's not forget the obvious alien we're trying to save the city from!" I turned around and saw the alien PICK UP A BUS WITH HER BARE HANDS? "This is gonna hurt." She flung the bus at us, but we all jumped out of the way. I leapt off the roof and another strong dude wearing an extremely large hoodie caught the bus.
"YO! Who's messing up my neighborhood?" The guy called out. 'He sounds familiar.' Beast Boy pointed to the alien and blamed it on her. She slammed the cuffs down on the ground and they finally came off, exposing her hands. 'That's all she wanted to do?' She lifted her hands up and two balls of green energy shot out. "Kryptonite! I got this!" I ran into the path of the beams and tried to absorb it, but the beams just blasted me back into the pizza place. "I can't absorb kryptonite anymore?" I looked around to see if anyone was hurt, thankfully the place was empty. I ran over and saw Robin, Beast Boy, and the guy in the hoodie from earlier who sounded familiar hiding behind the bus. "Now what?" I asked them. "If we don't do something, she's gonna wreck the whole neighborhood." The guy said. 'I know that voice from somewhere.' "No she won't. We won't let her!" Robin said as he ran out from behind the bus. The rest of us followed his lead and we were all rushing the alien until a big, black raven suddenly appeared in our path. "Not again…" I mumbled to myself. "What if fighting wasn't the answer?" We turned around and saw a girl in a purple cloak hiding her face in the hood. It was Raven.
"She's right. You guys, she's not wrecking the city, she's just defending herself. She only wants to be free." Robin walked over to her while Beast Boy tried to follow, but I grabbed his collar again. "Trust him, he knows what he's doing." The alien threw up her hands with the glowing green balls of fake kryptonite, but it looked like Robin was trying to calm her down. He pulled a lock pick out of his belt and showed it to the alien, which actually seemed to work. She lowered her guard and let him uncuff the alien's wrists. "Wow, space age handcuffs defeated by a simple earth lock pick. Whoever made them should be…" My sentence was interrupted by the alien actually locking lips with Robin. "Ashamed…" A few seconds later, he was thrown down to the ground. "If you wish not to be destroyed, you will leave me alone!" She called out to us then flew off. "That… was awkward." I said.
After looking around the destroyed city block, someone decided to speak up. "She certainly knows how to make an impression." The dude in the hoodie joked. "So did we." Beast Boy piped up. "We beat the alien and saved the city. Job well done, right sirs?" He said to me and Robin. "We're the same age," Robin said to him. "You don't have to call me sir." He turned to Raven and the dude in the hoodie. "Thanks for the help you guys. I can handle the rest from here." He started to walk away, but Raven stopped him. "Are you going to track the alien?" Robin turned to us and grinned. "Well yeah, but if she's gonna keep wrecking the city, someone has to stop her." Then he turned again and started walking away again, while Beast Boy ran after him. "More like he wants another kiss from her." The guy in the hoodie said. "I know you from somewhere." I said to him. "The red eye… the familiar voice… you even have the same build as him." He backed away before I was able to say anything else.
"Hey! You guys can help me look for her if you want to!" He called out to us. Raven and the guy in the hoodie split up. I turned to Robin, who gave me a shrug and walked away himself. "Hey wait," Beast Boy called out. "Anybody want to grab a slice of pizza?" Raven just continued to walk away. "Sorry, I gotta head back to Metropolis." I said to him. He ran towards the guy in the hoodie, then he turned around and threw off the hood. "I knew it!" I ran over to them. "I knew I recognized you. You're the dude who helped me back in Metropolis." He threw the hood back on and walked away again. "Where are you going?" I asked him. "After the Trigon incident, people got scared of me… shunned me. I'm a monster…" Cyborg just walked away.
All of a sudden, a big orange flying ship appeared above the city. "What's that?" The ship stopped above a small piece of land and something dropped out of it. "Looks like alien girl has friends." Cyborg said. Raven and Robin joined us to watch the dropship do what it was doing, which was to send out some weird… I don't know what they were. Then a hologram of another fishy alien showed up and told the city that they're looking for the alien that kissed Robin and that if we help her, we'll be destroyed. "That is one big ship." Cyborg said as the ship released a lot more of those fishy aliens. "Those are some scary looking aliens." Beast Boy continued. "We'll be destroyed if we interfere." Raven told us. "But interfering is what I do best." I mentioned. "And boy, do I love to interfere." "Well you guys, Batman and Scorpio wanted me to lead a team. You guys in?" Cyborg and Beast Boy agreed, but Raven looked like she though he left her out. "That includes you, too, Raven." I said to her. "I don't know… I'm no hero. If you guys knew what I really am…" Robin walked over and placed a hand on her shoulder.
Some time later, we were hiding out in an alley while the aliens overturned cars and ripped the roofs off looking for the alien. "We need some way to track her. Can you do it Cyborg?" He shrugged, but what Raven said surprised us all. "She's near." We looked at her with freaked out faces. "I can sense things…" She said nervously. Beast Boy transformed into a dog and tried to sniff out her scent. "I have a sonic analyzer built into my arm." Cyborg started to explain. "I'll be able to hear her if she does anything." "I have her trail!" Beast Boy called out. "I got her heartbeat." Cyborg said. "Then let's go!" Robin called out and we started following him.
We followed her trail to a video rental store where we were watching her pig out on the junk food they were selling there. "You know, you'll get major cavities if you keep that up." I taunted. She finished off a bucket of popcorn, turned around, and threatened us with her energy bolts. We all backed up. Nobody wanted to eat energy bolt. "Easy…" I said to her. "We're friends. Robin helped you out of the cuffs, remember?" "Yes… but why? What purpose did you have for freeing me?" The alien asked us. "I was trying to be nice…" Robin said nervously. "Nice?" She repeated. "We do not have this word on my planet." She said the closest word was something called rootha I think. She said it meant weak. "Weak?" I said. "Well here, nice is when you do something to help others." I said. "And we want to help you." "So why did Mr. Lizard King take you prisoner?" Cyborg asked her. "I… was not a prisoner. I was a prize. The Gordanians deliver me to the Citadel… where I was to live out my days as a servant." She said with sadness in her voice. 'What's a Gordanian? Is that from Game of Thrones?' "So… the Citadel…?" I started to ask. "Aren't nice." She finished. "Well you aren't going anywhere. Not if we have anything to say about it." Robin stepped up. Next thing I know, we get blasted by more of those fish aliens.
They flew over towards us, and we ran to them. We were taking them all out. We started to get overpowered though, and the alien was about to get blasted herself, but I yanked the alien's staff out of his hand before it happened, then I blasted the fish with his own staff. "See? Your parents should've taught you never to play with pointy objects. Someone could take it and use it against you." One of the aliens tried to stab me, but the buzz in my head warned me. So I turned around in time to block the staff with the one I yoinked. I spun the staff and made my opponent lose his grip on his, then I jumped and axe kicked him. Then I started blasting a whole bunch of other aliens flying towards us out of the sky, then they all ran away.
"We did it!" Cyborg called out. I snapped the staff in half over my knee and Cyborg looked depressed over his outfit getting ruined. "You look cooler without it though." Beast Boy tried to say, but he just started at him. "What? Do I have something on my face?" Beast Boy almost freaked out, but I pulled his goofy mask off his face. "There, it's gone now." "Wait! What about my secret identity?" He moped. "Dude, you're green." I said to him. "You have no secret identity." "Your suit's trashed, too." Cyborg said to me. I looked down at my costume, which really was trashed. "Aw man… not again!" A while later, I walked out of a clothing store with my costume hidden under some clothes. "Good thing I stocked up on my costumes back home." My mask was untouched, so I left it on. "Can I ask about the scar?" Beast Boy asked me. "You could… but we don't have time for a long story right now."
"Trogar will strike harder, now that we've interfered." The alien said. Before she was able to continue, the Lizard King showed up again. "Fools! The earth scum were warned. Your insolence will be punished. Your city shall be destroyed!" The same ship from before flew over the city again and prepared a cannon to blast the city. "I don't have nearly enough webbing to stop that cannon!" I said. "Great. So after trashing the pizza place and the video store, WE end up pissing off the alien with the giant city leveling cannon from outer space." I continued. Before long, Robin and the alien and Beast Boy and Cyborg started arguing with each other. I whistled loudly to get everybody to stop fighting. "Keep fighting and that cannon won't be any less destroyed. We need a plan."
A while later, Raven teleported us into the ship… and my stomach still could not handle teleportation. "That dark energy stuff is…" Beast Boy started to say, but Raven looked sad. "Sweet!" He finished. "Nice save." Everyone but Raven started to go to the control room. "What's wrong?" Cyborg asked her. "You heard him, didn't you? I don't fit in here." "Beast Boy's green, she's from outer space, and I'm half-machine." Cyborg started to say. "And I have Kryptonian ancestry. We're not normal, Raven." I finished. Raven smiled a little then walked forward. "That reminds me. I thought you could fly, Jake." Cyborg said to me. "Alternate dimension replaced my powers with those of a recently deceased superhero." I simply said, then joined everyone at the door. "Ready guys?" We backed up so the alien could blast a hole in the door. She did, then we walked in. After the smoke cleared, I was at the front of the pack. "Knock knock fish face. We're here to kick your butts!"
Everyone went and started fighting. Some of Trogar's troops flew towards us and we leapt out of the way, with Beast Boy transforming into a gorilla and grabbing a couple to fling out of the way. I ended up in a stalemate with one of the aliens. I grabbed at his staff, but he wouldn't let go. Unfortunately, another alien took that as an opportunity to slash my back with his staff. Then I headbutted the alien I was standing off with, then used his staff to blast the alien that slashed my back. Once all the other aliens were beaten, I made a makeshift bandage out of my web then I had to support myself with the console. Trogar was walking towards me, ready to kill me, but Cyborg KO'd him with a blast from his new arm cannon. "Booyah."
After beating Trogar and saving the city, Robin and his new team were making plans for a new base of operations on the island. "Great view of the city. Perfect location. This would make for an awesome location." I said to them. "Yeah, if you like the sunshine and the beach." Beast Boy added. There was a slight cough behind us, and we saw Trogar's "prize" walk out wearing a new outfit completely different from her old one. "I look… nice?" She said, a little embarrassed it sounded like. I pushed Robin a little bit towards her, and he introduced everyone. "In your language, my name would be Starfire." "It's nice to meet you, Starfire." I joked a little, but serious nonetheless. "You guys can call me Jake." I added, taking the mask off my head. Robin handed everyone some communicators he and Cyborg made from his circuitry and offered me one. "Sorry, but I won't need one. I gotta head back to Metropolis anyway." "Take one anyway." Robin said insistently. I shrugged and decided to take one anyway. I noticed there was a T on the front of it. "What's the T for?" Cyborg shrugged. "Robin thought it looked cool." I walked towards the batwing and hopped in it. "Well, you guys do need a team name." I looked at them all. "Teen Titans." They all agreed, then I took off for home.
'I've gotten hurt so much since I took up the mantle again. No one else
