Author's Note: Hey guys! I am so sorry about not updating for a while. I was so busy with school and doing some other stuff that I just lost track of my story. I also had a serious case of writer's block during the entire last year due to college and just how much material I had to read for class, but since I am free now, I vow to finish this tory up. I just realized it is 37 chapters long already, but I'm confident in my abilities to finish off this story with a satisfying ending for all of you who have been kindly reviewing and reading this story.

Chapter 38

The sky was unusually grey for the beginning of spring in Newtech City. Liquid pearls splattered against the clear windows of the SPD Academy that overlooked the city. Most thought the rain was just a mild spring shower that would pass in a matter of a few hours, but it had been three days and it hadn't ceased yet. Newtech wasn't known for extended periods of rain, so the this happening had everyone on the edge. With the threat of Grumm and the Troobians looming near Earth, some conspiracy theorists around the base blamed it on an alien on the Emperor's side while others simply thought it was the long-term effect of global warming.

No matter where the blame really was at, tensions were at an all-time high in the base, especially within the tight, intimate circle that had formed within the Rangers. Since they had encountered Pandora the last time, the cracks had begun to show. Doggy was concerned of how fragmented the group had grown since that battle and wondered what it could possibly be blamed on.

Resentment was highly palpable on Sky's end over Jack's position as leader. The Blue Ranger wasn't exactly quiet, and his opinion on a 'criminal' being the Red Ranger and having the position-a position meant for Sky-and being the leader wasn't going to change anytime soon. Along with Sky's extremely vocal defense about the integrity of the Red Ranger position being compromised by Jack came Z's protection of her "brother". Z didn't exactly shy away from telling how she really felt about Sky harassing Jack. While Jack normally tried to keep his "sister" down, the woman was adamant to let Sky get away with insulting him. Bridge seemed to be a neutral player in the dispute, knowing that taking a side wasn't exactly going to help them beat Grumm or get back Sydney.

While Bridge understood Sky's anger over Jack being the Red Ranger, it wasn't fair for him to take all the blame. Doggy had given the morpher to Jack for a reason and that decision wasn't going to change anytime soon, no matter how hard Sky harassed and tried to intimidate Jack. The tensions between the team had kept Bridge isolated in the computer lab, given the nature of his powers. Even with his hands inside his leather gloves, Bridge still experienced the beginnings of a migraine every time he stood inside any room with his team given all the tension and inner turmoil each one of them was experiencing.

The only possible solution Bridge had been able to come up with was to distance himself from the other three until tensions died down a little bit. Despite being highly optimistic in most situations, Bridge highly doubted that the fights between those three would end anytime soon. Without anyone to intermediate between the three, it was a full on verbal assault. His team was going through a rough patch and no matter what he said, not one of them wanted to budge and accept things as they were. With that stubbornness and adamancy to change, Bridge doubted his words would make any change in their minds or current positions. The Green Ranger had decided to simply stay away for a while, praying constantly for a resolution on this seemingly never ending constantly.

Even Kat seemed to be worry at the state of disarray that had become of the B-Squad. For the past three days, she had caught Bridge sleeping on the computer lab's couch. When asked about his reasons to sleep there, he had simply blamed it on the fact that he was experiencing headaches and needed a more isolated place to sleep in. Knowing Bridge was hiding something, Kat decided to do a little investigating herself concerning the emotional state of B-Squad. It wasn't exactly a secret that B-Squad's members didn't get along between each other, as Kat and Doggy had witnessed in past occasions, but she had never expected to find them in such a state of distress.

After being witness to yet another verbal standoff between Jack and Sky in the Rec Room, which seemed to be a normal occurrence nowadays, Kat confronted Bridge in the computer room. While trying to lie at first and trying to ramble to get Kat to forget, he knew that the woman was onto something. After the cadet came clean about the situation, Kat knew it was time to tell Kruger so he would do something. There was a bigger enemy out there that they had to fight. If they couldn't stand to be around each other or come together as a team, then how did they expect to save the world from Grumm?

After Kat expressed her concerns to Commander Cruger, he decided it was time to bring out the cavalry to get them to unite as a team. Even if they hated him, it was for the best.

The members of B-Squad slowly walked inside the room, each one looking more displeased than the last to be inside the room. Once the 4 of them were inside, the side glares and the angry faces had begun once again. Bridge was standing by the computers, trying to not let his teammates' (if he could even call them that anymore) angry auras get to him.

"Cadet Carson, come sit at the round table with the rest of your teammates." Commander Cruger commanded, not really leaving Bridge with much of an option, but to take a seat next to Sky. Cruger knew the cadet wouldn't fight him or deny his command; it was too much against his obedient persona. As predicted, the young man obediently took a seat next to his roommate and hoped that there would be no more fights between them; his head was already beginning to ache. The meeting hadn't even begun yet and he could tell that the fighting between them would happen anyways. No one seemed happy to be here. Sky was shifting uncomfortably in his seat, clearly feeling anxious.

"Does this have anything to do with Grumm not having attacked for the past two weeks? Z asked, looking around for consensus. Despite the fact that everyone was their own island at the moment, they all nodded in agreement. "We have been worried about what's brewing on his side."

There had been no attacks or sightings lately, not even random Krybot attacks. The Emperor wasn't going to give up until he had Earth wrapped around his bony little finger, so they highly doubted he had retired to some far corner of the galaxy to try his luck at conquering another planet. Earth was the perfect planet to conquer and given the state its protectors were in, it would not be too hard to get what he wanted now.

"I think there are different concerns on all of your minds more than the fate of Earth, primarily bickering amongst yourselves over trivial things." Cruger stated coldly, wondering if he'd made a mistake by putting the B-Squad in charge of defending Earth. Kat had assured him that they were ready, and even she doubted her own decision. Maybe bringing two worlds together didn't always work out well. Sometimes, two different worlds simply collided and crashed. It was utopic to think that everything would be smooth ailing between these two seemingly distinct factions that existed within the B-Squad.

Kat cleared her throat and nodded as she stepped forward, eyeing the Cadets carefully, "Cadet Delgado, I think using the word 'we' is incorrect. You four are not much of a team. Each one of your minds has seemingly traveled to a deserted island and forgotten the big picture."

Before any of them could reply or defend themselves, Cruger pulled out two pages and slammed them on the desk before them. He grabbed a copy from the desk behind him and raised his brow, beginning to feel as overwhelmed as Bridge was at this point.

"Before any of you say anything, I have compiled a list of complaints from other cadets to demonstrate just how good your 'teamwork' has been in the past few weeks." Cruger examined the list to select the most notable offenses. Clearing his throat, he began, "Cadets Delgado, Landors and Tate disrupted the peace by beginning a loud verbal altercation while we were having lunch. I recall the argument seemed to have something to do with Cadet Landors and Delgado's criminal past. It was started by Cadet Tate."

"I was defending Jack, Commander. Sky was antagonizing us because of our past yet again and questioning or integrity. We have learned from our mistakes and done a lot of personal growth since then." Z retorted defensively, eyeing Sky suspiciously.

"We aren't questioning your motives, Cadet Delgado, but this is just one of the complaints that have been filed in the past two weeks against one of you. These two pages are just a compilation of the most outstanding ones. I have the full list in my computer, if any of you are interested in reading them." The Commander replied calmly, glaring at her slightly so no arguments would break out between them. He gave Sky a look so he would back down, knowing the Blue Ranger was not too far from beginning another one of his 'I deserve to be Red Ranger' tirades against Jack and Z.

"Yet, we are not here to simply read out the complaints and hope that you learn from them. These complaints are a reflection of how you are perceived by the rest of the base, and this doesn't look good so far. How are they supposed to trust you as the protectors of the Earth if you can't even trust each other or stop fighting among yourselves?" Cruger questioned, knowing that one of them would answer.

After a pregnant, awkward silence fell over the room to let the gravity of the situation sink in, Kat brought out a metallic case from the bottom of the table and opened it up. It had holes shaped like the morphers, which Z stared at incredulously. Were they really going to take their morphers back at a crucial time like this?

"For this reason, we have decided that none of you are suited to carry a morpher or defend Earth from Grumm. Put them in." Kat commanded, her voice laced with both anger and disappointment.

Bridge was the first one to put it in, agreeing with Kat's words. The bickering had to stop and if the only way for them to do so was to eat a piece of humble pie, then so be it. Z came next, knowing the complaints spoke nothing but the truth about the current mindset of the team. Jack reluctantly put his morpher in the case, wondering if he had made the right choice in choosing to be a Ranger. Even he doubted he was Red Ranger material as of lately, given Sky's harsh words. He had tried to forget them, but when someone said harsh words like that constantly, it left a scar in his mind.

The only one left with a morpher in his hands was Sky, as predicted. He was clearly not going to give it up without a fight. "I am not giving up my morpher. When I started that 'altercation', I was simply stating the truth. I do not get why I have to give it up for telling someone the truth."

"Just put in the box, you self-righteous prick! You were verbally attacking Jack concerning his position as a leader once again. Last time I checked, biased opinions are not truths." Z retorted, looking at Jack for a moment. He was simply staying quiet, not wanting to get into another argument. Sky was right in some aspects, but he seemed to be doing a good job of being a leader so far. At least, Z had told him. Or maybe it was a biased opinion because she was his sister after all.

After Z's comment, all hells broke loose and Bridge could only sit there as his teammates went at it again concerning something that wouldn't change. He took a deep breath and stood up, clearing his throat for a moment.

"STOP!" Bridge screamed. At this, the three of them turned back to look back at their quirky and usually quiet friend and sat down. They had never expected this from him, not from Bridge. "Sky, you've been wondering why I don't sleep in the same room as you anymore. It's because you three are giving me migraines with your constant fights. I decided to spend my days with machines, so I don't have to deal with any of you anymore."

"Bridge, why didn't you tell us?" Jack asked, clearly concerned about his friend's mental health. The comment clearly made Bridge amused and he simply gave Jack a scoff and shook his head.

"You wouldn't have listened to me." Bridge replied simply, allowing that to sink in. His mental health was a priority and he wasn't about to disrupt it because of these people that he supposedly called friends now.

Before any of them could continue bickering amongst themselves, Cruger slammed his palm on the table and handed them all a new set of simple black uniforms. They would be displeased to be stripped of their ranks, he was sure of it. But this is what he needed to do in order to get them to be a team and not four separate individuals. The Commander handed Bridge an envelope with a letter inside and had Kat turn on the holographic projector in the table.

"As of right now, you are no longer the B-Squad Rangers of SPD Earth. You are Cadets Landors, Delgado, Carson and Tate, separate entities, just like you have always wanted to be from the beginning." Cruger said harshly, clearly aggravated by the fighting between the Cadets. "As you can tell, we have no place for separate entities here on Earth. SPD Earth values teamwork over individual achievement and for this reason, we have chosen to send you to Zentor, in the Andromeda Galaxy."

Zentor's SPD base was the place that problematic cadets were sent to train in, given the harsh weather conditions and how extreme some of the training methods were. Only very problematic cadets were shipped off in hopes of turning them into better cadets and in some cases, some others that could be considered weak were tested to determine if they were suitable candidates for SPD or not. Sky remembered that Boom had been sent there on his first year as a cadet given that he didn't like fighting and sucked in physical classes. While his mind is a jewel in itself, he was determined to be better suited for another job around the base, hence why he became Kat's assistant.

It was rather unheard of that a whole Squad got sent to Zentor, but Sky knew the A-Squad had also been there one time when they hit a rough patch and they became the best there had ever been in the Academy. Maybe this was the rough patch they had to hit before becoming better Cadets, but the doubt loomed over all of them seeing how things were at the moment.

"There is a ship ready to take you to Zentor now and none of you will return until you are able to be a team. I never expected this from any of you and I must say I'm disappointed. Board the ship." All of them were shocked at Cruger's words and actions, since he was clearly was not happy. Instead of saying goodbye and wishing them good luck, he simply left the room with his head hung low while Kat pointed to the sip with her head.

"Goodbye, Rangers. Hopefully, we will see each other soon. I still have faith that you can put your differences aside to protect Earth. If you were any other Squad, we might not be as worried, but you are our only hope against Grumm. I will not see my new home destroyed by him." Kat replied sadly, shutting the door of the ship once they were all inside and seated safely. She set the course on the ship and typed down a few things before beginning the countdown so the ship would leave the base.

"Do you think that this will help, Doctor Manx?" Cruger asked as he stepped inside once again, collecting Sky's morpher from the table and putting it in the case along with the others.

Kat wondered the same thing in her mind and while she doubted it would make any difference to subject them to such extremes, she nodded. "I hope it does. It helped the A-Squad when SPD was launched all those years ago. Things seem dire, I know, but we have to trust that there is a shining light at the end of all this."

"I hope you're right, Kat." Cruger sighed as he walked away once the ship was launched off into the galaxy with a course set directly to Zentor with what seemed to be like a one-way ticket.

If Zentor and Sergeant Silverback weren't able to get through B-Squad's tough skulls, then no one would. Cruger had faith in both the team and Silverback, but given the state of disarray they had been just a few minutes ago, he was starting to doubt himself and whether sending them to Zentor would actually work or not. Even Kat seemed worried about what they would do if Silverback deemed them to not be a suitable fit to be Rangers anymore.

Kat put her hand over Cruger's shoulder, trying to assure him that his plan would work out well. "There is only so much we can do for them here. I know it's difficult to see them like this, but so many things have happened this past year. Maybe going to Zentor will help them forget about everyone else here and make them think about each other."

"It's been tense around here for the past two weeks. I'm surprised there haven't even been any incidents with Krybots." Cruger admitted, clearly frustrated by not knowing what Grumm was planning for Newtech City. With Pandora, Broodwing and Morgana at his side and obeying his every command, he had every resource he needed to bring down SPD. One thing was for sure though; whenever the attack came, it would come at full force and they had to be prepared.

Kat went to the computers to run some surveillance over Newtech's energy sector to identify any break-ins or suspicious, uninvited guests. She turned her head for a moment, watching as Cruger walked away with frustration written all over his face and body gestures.

We'll get through this, thought Kat as she continued to scan the city.

Planet Zentor

After a less than peaceful ship ride through space, the Rangers were witness to what could be described as a rough awakening by Sergeant Silverback. The gorilla-like alien's hand tapped on the metal door mercilessly until the four cadets came crawling out of the now obliterated ship, courtesy of Z's terrible landing skills. She had been great at driving, but landing or parking had never been her strong suits.

Sky knew Zentor was described as hell by people who had spent time there before, but he never imagined it would be that harsh of an environment. The dry heat instantly hit them as they came trailing out of the ship, their feet sinking into the coarse red sand below them. As far as they could see, there was nothing but red dunes for miles and miles, or so it would seem. This was going to be hell and they all knew it.

Silverback grumbled loudly as the recruits got in line and saluted him, examining them carefully, saying nothing for a few minutes. "I can't say I'm impressed with this new batch of recruits Cruger has sent me so far. He claims you are Earth's hope against Grumm, but I'm starting to doubt his words. How can he expect all of you to save the Earth when you can't even land a ship?"

"I was distracted, Commander." Z said defensively, trying her best to remain calm. She knew that saying that wouldn't help her case even less, but she had to say something to plead her case. It wasn't unlike Z to defend herself, even if she was in the wrong, when her skills were questioned.

"I wasn't looking for an explanation, Cadet," grumbled Silverback, looking into Z's eyes with an intimidating glare, which made her step back. "Cruger tells me you've been having some problems between yourselves, bickering. I thought bickering was for children, not for the protectors of the Earth. He's worried about his decision by choosing you four."

"Five, we are five." Sky answered, knowing the group wasn't complete without Syd. He still couldn't forget how she had sacrificed herself to rescue him from Grumm. If that didn't make anyone consider her a valuable part of the team, then they were not really her friends at all. It was at the toughest times when one found true friends, and she had proven to be that and so much more by saving him without a second thought.

At that comment, Silverback raised a brow and grumbled, thinking this cadet was lacking basic mathematics skills if he couldn't count. Predicting that he was going to get scolded, Sky decided to intervene. "She's not with us at the moment, but she's a part of this team."

"Is she in Earth, then? Is she the only seemingly competent member of your team?" Silverback was tired of the smart-mouthing and wondered if Cruger had to put up with it every single day or if they were just trying to test him. Whatever they were doing, it was not going to intimidate him. If there was one thing in which Silverback and Cruger differed greatly was in the fact that Silverback was a lot less patient his comrade in Earth.

"No, sir… she was taken by Grumm." Bridge intervened with a trembling voice, hoping he would sympathize with their current circumstances. He was sure that some of the conflicts had their root in Syd's reappearance as Pandora. Silverback softened his expression for a moment, nodding quietly for a moment as he took in Bridge's words.

Silverback knew only small details of what this Squad had been through in the past few months thanks to Cruger's letters and the news. He had a clear idea of how to get through them now and hoped that going for the sympathetic would help them understand why it was important for them to cooperate as a team.

"And do you think that bickering like children will save her from Grumm? Forget about Earth and the rest of the people for a minute and think about your friend. Do you think that getting her back can be done if you work as separate entities rather than as a team?" Silverback asked rhetorically, taking out four bags with provisions for the day and night. He slammed them on the floor in front of them, giving them a look as he handed each of them a vial with a light blue liquid.

"Drink it." Silverback commanded harshly. The four Rangers hesitantly took hold of the vials and drank the contents, knowing they wouldn't be able to spit it out under the attentive eyes of this alien. They put it down their throats. While all of them expected it to taste horrible, it was surprisingly flavor-less, like water.

"Now, you will all be relying on your survival instincts and teamwork to make it through tonight. Since you are fixated on not working as team, each one of you will go in a separate direction and face different obstacles to find your teammates." Each one of them seemed incredulous as to how they would find each other in such a vast landscape. Silverback wasn't about to expose the trick under his sleeve at any time soon. "You will find each other, trust me. Go!"

The Rangers picked up their bags from the floor and went off running in separate directions, running away from each other. They were still dubious as to what the liquid they drank would do. They weren't exactly sure, but it was clear that Silverback wasn't just handing them drinks without any purpose. Silverback didn't seem to be the type of guy to just offer free drinks to cadets that back mouthed him. Whatever the liquid was, they were bound to find out anytime soon what it was going to be used for.

As the Rangers dispersed through the deserted landscape, with only their vanishing footsteps left behind in the sand, it was clear that they were on their own for a while. Bridge must have been thankful for that, being alone in the desert. Jack, Z and Sky had been oblivious to his discomfort until he blatantly told them for the sake of his mental health.

Silverback was right by stating that they wouldn't be able to save Syd by being selfish or condescending to each other, not when Syd had selflessly sacrificed herself to get Sky back from the clutches of Grumm. Whatever needed to be done, they would do it to defeat him.

Hours seemed to pass for the Rangers as they trekked through the desert on their own, wondering where they would be meeting up, if they met up at all. Their eyes were peeled, but the conditions were harsh. With every step they took, their feet sunk in the sand. It almost felt like they were being pulled down by roots in the sand, so they had to move quickly. The sun shone above their heads, an intense heat radiating down on them that felt like the flames of hell.

They were beginning to think that Zentor should be renamed for something more appropriate as they continued their mindless trekking, wondering what the point was in walking through sand. It was clear that this wasn't going to be easy by any means.

The Terror

Pandora had kept true to her word concerning using her winnings on the Arena. Morgana and Pandora had gone back a few days ago to purchase new clothes and talk about their plans as privately as they could. It wasn't going to be easy with Grumm and Broodwing constantly keeping their eyes on them, but they at least had to try. If they were going to be taken down, they would at least go kicking and screaming.

Pandora had gotten new clothes to ditch the image Grumm had given her and try to find one that was truly her own. It was true that she did not want to give away anything to Grumm, so she had to still look menacing. Rather than go lighter, Pandora had deemed it necessary to look more menacing so Grumm would think that the Black Crystal was working.

Ever since they'd gotten back, Pandora had been struggling with herself. She'd had several fits of rage in the past few days and taken out about 200 Krybots on her in the past 4 days. Despite not wanting for the Black Crystal to take over completely, it seemed inevitable. She was beginning to think that there was no hope in getting herself better. She had been fighting the effects of the potent drug for the past two weeks and there was still no sign of improvement.

What was even worse was the fact that every time Pandora tried to fight back, the drug seemed to become even more powerful and its effects became that much more prominent. Pandora's hair was now a mane of platinum locks that resembled the color of silver, her eyes had tinged themselves purple and her skin was incredibly pale, as if the sun had never touched her skin in her entire life. She knew that the physical transformation was only the beginning and there was little Pandora could do to stop it. Dying her hair and wearing contacts wasn't going to help slow down the process.

Every time Pandora examined the brand at her back, the lines seemed to be moving closer every time. It was clear that she had little time to waste, if the tattoo was any indication of how much time she had to save herself.

Yet again, Pandora found herself in front of her full length mirror in her bedroom, taking a deep breath as she lifted her shirt to expose the brand. She eyed it carefully, a little relieved that it hadn't moved even a centimeter since yesterday night. It seemed to move faster with those inevitable fits of rage she'd had, product of the Black Crystal consumption. She touched the brand carefully and hissed, cursing Morgana silently as tears beginning to pool in her eyes. She wouldn't show any signs of weakness.

When the door opened, Pandora lowered her shirt and pulled down the black opaque curtain in her mirror. With her back turned towards the uninvited guest, Pandora cleared her throat and blinked her eyes a few times as she gathered the newly bought armor she'd gotten from the marketplace. When she was sure that no tears would come out, she turned to find Morgana standing there.

"I'm glad it's you. I'm scared. I don't know what's been happening with me in the past four days. I just got so angry and it felt like I had this big amount of power inside me that needed to be released." Pandora confessed as she began to put on the new armor she had purchased at the market. Both of them had gotten new armors with her new winnings, along with a few other things.

Morgana stayed silent for a moment as she moved to help her out, clearly concerned for newfound ally and friend. "I'm not going to pretend to know what that's like, but I'm sorry. It's my fault you're even in this situation..."

"It's Grumm's fault I'm here. You're just another pawn in his game, just like me. You had to give me the brand or he would have killed you. A pity party isn't going to help me beat this." Pandora concluded, wanting to put an end to the discussion. She was glad Morgana was sorry, but it didn't change things. She had already forgiven her for things that were out of her control and there was no way to revert the past. Even if this were dire, Pandora had to remain hopeful that things would change if she just kept fighting.

Without another word, Pandora finished strapping on her new armor and brushed her hair back, putting on a heavy application of black eyeliner before heading out to the observatory with Morgana. They began to scan the far sectors of the galaxy to see what they could do to pass the time. Maybe finding another Arena to fight in would help them both calm their anxieties, Pandora thought.

Grumm had been quiet the past few days and both of them had rarely seen him or Broodwing come out of the throne room. Whatever they were planning, it was going to be something big – something unforgettable. And Pandora and Morgana were clearly pawns since they didn't even know the plan. They saw no point in complaining and simply kept to themselves for the past few days, but both of them were increasingly becoming restless. Pandora's hands were begging her to destroy something and soon.

Grumm had given the strict order that there would be no attacks on Earth for the past few weeks and they both wondered if they were gathering resources for the final strike against Earth. Grumm had never exactly been the discrete type, so being all quiet and secretive was extremely rare for him.

Pandora raised a brow as she scanned some signals on the map and surveillance system that had been installed. She gave Morgana a little smirk and patted her arm to get her attention.

"I got something on the Nebula Galaxy. A ship from the SPD base on Earth with four human passengers passed the checkpoint not too long ago. The ship reportedly crashed instead of landing in Zentor's surface." Pandora replied, knowing Morgana had questions as to why this was important. She rolled her eyes slightly and blew up the images of Zentor on the screen and turned on the thermal image system.

"Zentor has a small SPD base that's used for training problematic cadets from any Academy around the galaxy. It's pretty rare that someone gets sent to Zentor. You have to incredibly disobedient or incompetent to get sent to train with Silverback." Morgana gave Pandora another curious look. "I learned that in SPD Geography. Anyways, that's not the point."

"Yeah, just cut to the chase." Morgana offered with a slightly annoyed smile.

"I'm betting you those four people on Zentor are the Rangers. I can tell from their heat signatures… they look different than regular people because of their abilities. I bet it will be fun to mess with them in Zentor and destroy an SPD base to make ourselves look good for Grumm in the process. No killing, though." Pandora didn't want blood in her hands, but they had to be proactive in order to let Grumm know they were still on his side and what better way to prove it than destroy a small yet significant base?

Morgana nodded, wondering what their plan was. They had to first take care of destroying the compound and leaving a message behind to Cruger and the rest of SPD to look convincing. "Yeah, we just destroy the place. I promise there will be no killing. How many people are there?"

"20… it's a small number compared to other bases and I'm sure there are ships to take them somewhere else. We send a message to SPD and then mess with the Rangers a bit before leaving." Pandora shut down the machines and strapped in her weapons, giving Morgana a light smile as they both faded away to Zentor.
