Emily and Maya haven't seen each other for almost two weeks due to Maya's busy schedule. Maya has been preparing for her second time taking the SAT's once as a junior and now as a senior. Since its thanksgiving holiday both girls decided to meet up for coffee and catch up after school.
Walking inside the coffee shop Maya see's Emily waiting in line. "Hey what's up" Maya announces tapping Emily on her shoulder to get her attention. "What's up" she says turning around with her arms stretched out giving Maya a quick embrace.
"How was school?" "School was boring, I've been distracted the entire day thinking of you Maya." "Aww thats so sweet. Its been crazy for me with school and everything. Its so cold today" Maya adds.
"The weather is backwards, over the weekend the temperature was sunny in the 60's now it's like 45 and windy" Emily says obviously not too happy with the temperature change. "Yes that's why it's called The Windy City" Maya reminded her walking up to the register.
"Do you want hot chocolate or coffee Emily?" "I'll take hot chocolate, it's probably too late in the afternoon for coffee."
"I would like two medium hot chocolates with whip cream please" Maya says to the barista giving her the cash for the beverages.
"Is it alright if we drink it here since it's not that many people?" "Sure that's fine Em. How about you go find us a table while I wait for the co-co and bring them over."
Maya places both of the hot drinks on the table and sit down on the opposite side of Emily. "Sorry for cancelling our plans for Sunday. I didn't expect for my family to hang out the whole day, it was draining."
The past Sunday both girls planned to hang out but Maya's plans with her family turned into an all-night outing visiting her grandmother's house. "It's okay Maya I was restless for our Sunday plans, but family come's first right." she responds taking a sip of her hot chocolate.
Emily's short separation from Maya made a lot of her days lack luster and empty; the pair texted constantly but the need for physical attention was becoming unbearable. She tried to stay busy with homework, studying and spending quality time with her mother. Hanging with friends was starting not to cut it also. Since the two planned on seeing each other the next day after school, Emily came up with plan for the two of them.
"Since it's a Tuesday and we are on vacation for Thanksgiving, I was wondering if your mother wouldn't mind me sleeping over your house tonight?" Emily asks looking into Maya's eyes. "I already have it planned out, I asked my mom if it was alright for me to stay over at my friend Spencer's and she approved."
"Damn you already have your plan set-up" Maya was surprised and happy by Emily's idea. Surprised because she didn't expect for the younger girl to take the initiative and already have both of their nights planned out without her knowledge. Happy because she could tell that Emily likes her company and wants to spend the night with her regardless of the drama they had a week and a half ago.
"But I don't know about a sleep over. That's too much temptation for me Em" she responds shaking her head in disapproval.
"A sleep over is fine we don't have to sleep in the same bed if you think you can't control yourself" Emily states trying to find some sort of resolution to Maya's problem. She really wanted to stay the night with Maya so she wasn't taking no for an answer. "Plus if I can control myself I think you can too, Maya" she says placing a peck on her cheek.
"It's not that I can't control myself, the problem is having you in a close space the entire night around me will drive me crazy. When I think of us spending nights together it's as a couple; being cuddled up in bed, having sex all night. That's what I imagine Emily."
"We can be together Maya, that's what I desire most anyway. I just thought we was taking it slow like you wanted" Emily stated slightly confused at Maya's reasoning. Maya chucked at Emily's last words, "having a sleepover is not taking it slow to me."
"The first time we did it, you slept over and we weren't together then so what's the difference now?" Emily countered her with a very good point. "I was caught up in the moment and I agreed with your terms of being friends with benefits."
"C'mon Maya that sounds like some bull crap, are you trying to tell me you never had a sleepover with just friends?" she asks getting frustrated. "Of course I have, but it was never with a chick that I was intimate with" she says matter of fact.
"Ok Maya so what would it take for me to make you my girl?" She places a sweet kiss on Maya's lips, "Does that work?" "Or how about this?" Emily grabs Maya by her shirt collar so they are face to face. She places another sugary kiss on Maya's lips this time she uses her tongue with more emphasis in the coffee shop.
"Damn" Maya licked her lips lost for words. It wasn't a new thing; a girl declaring their love for Maya but with this one particular girl she couldn't resist or ignore. "I can do more of that if you want me too" Emily reassures taking Maya's hand into her hand at the table. "I'm serious Maya, I'm ready for us to be together for real. Are you my girl or what?"
"Yes Emily Field's I'll be your girlfriend."
"Thank you. That's all I wanted to hear from you."
"What are your plans for Thanksgiving?"
"I usually spend it with family. If you like her food then you will enjoy Thanksgiving at our house. My mom makes the best chocolate cake and smoked turkey. Mmm I can taste it in my mouth." "I love chocolate cake it's my favorite."
"Wow you do too, that's my favorite as well. I love chocolate to death." "I guess we have something else in common, my mother bakes a good chocolate cake too." "I would love to do a taste test of which mother bakes the best cake" Maya contest.
"Would you like to stop over for Thanksgiving as my guest Maya?" "I guess so, because I need a break after dealing with my family. Everyone comes together, grandparents, my parents, brother, cousins, uncles and aunties. My grandmother, mom, my two uncles and auntie all have a cook off using my grandma's recipes."
"Wow that sounds like so much fun, I wish my family did exciting things like that. It's only my mother and her sister. My auntie has three children, two twin boys and a little girl" she says checking her text messages.
"I think we should go and get started on our sleep over. It's almost 4:00 and I need to go home to pick up my overnight bag" Emily rushes swallowing the last of her hot chocolate before getting up. They both walked out the coffee shop and to the parking lot.
"I'll meet you at your house, I'm going to be really quick so you won't have to worry" Emily tells Maya in front of her car. "Call me when you're outside so I can let you in, see you later Emily."
"If you're tired of getting your ass beat, just let me know" Maya says boosting over her skills in NBA 2k. Upon Emily's arrival the twosome decided to play video games instead of watching television. "Can we order pizza now, I'm hungry" Emily responds putting down the Xbox controller stretching her long body.
Maya walks over to her night stand and pulls out a blunt and sits on her comfortable bed, "how about you order while I smoke this" she says pointing to the brown joint. "Do you want to blow with me?" she asks exhaling smoke from her mouth and inhaling it into her nostrils very slowly.
"I love it when you do that" Emily announces amazed.
"Do what?" She asks clueless.
"That thing you do with the smoke."
"Oh a French inhale. Sometimes I forget that I do it."
"Can you teach me?" Emily's asks moving closer to Maya at the head of the bed.
She hands over the blunt to Emily so she can give it a try, "take a hit of the blunt but do not inhale."
"Keep the smoke in your cheeks, open your mouth just a tiny bit like this" she demonstrates with her mouth slightly open. "And inhale through your nose."
"Damn I didn't do right" Emily responds not to happy. "That's because you inhaled it instead of holding the smoke in your cheeks. If you practice you'll learn in no time. Now give me the blunt amateur so I can show you how it's done" she takes the blunt from Emily.
Maya takes a drag of the blunt, faces Emily to kiss her; blowing the smoke in her mouth for a shotgun kiss sending chills down Emily's spine. Emily slowly exhales lays down and places her head on Maya's stomach.
"So Maya what time is your mom coming home?" She asks feeling the effects from the marijuana. "She should be home around 7, I think she has to stay a little late to finish up some paperwork before thanksgiving.
If you think she'll have a problem with us dating, she won't." She replies reassuring Emily. "I already told her that I was bisexual, I just haven't brought a girl home as my girlfriend. She likes you anyway." She says smiling at Emily.
"Damn I feel so behind, I haven't told my mom anything." "Well, just tell her when you're confident enough, I'll help you when you're ready."
Did you want to watch a movie when the pizza arrives?" "Yea you can pick, it doesn't matter to me." Maya grabs the remote to begin channel surfing.
"I'm stuffed, the pizza was delicious." Emily stated wiping her hands with a napkin. "I think my mom just came home" Maya interjects hearing footsteps on the staircase, she gets up and to speak to her mom.
"Hey mom, how was work?" She asks giving her mother a warm embrace. Maya's mother, Marie, was the VP of sales at Kraft Foods.
"Work was fine, how was your day?"
"It was fun, I hope its ok I have company who is staying over?" She asks her mom walking behind her into her room.
"Who is the guest?" "It's Emily, my girlfriend."
"Your girlfriend, since when did all of this occur?" Marie ponders taking off her jewelry and placing them neatly on her dresser.
"My girlfriend since today, she asked me this afternoon" Maya answers gleaming. "I knew it was something about that girl when I met her. She look like a really nice sweet respectable young lady. " "Hold on I'm going to get her so that you can say hello to her.
"Emily come, my mom wants to say hello" she says standing in the entrance of her bedroom door. Emily hoped off the bed and quickly sprinted to the mirror to make herself presentable. "How do I look Maya?" Maya walked over to Emily to let her know that she looked fine and there is nothing to be nervous before they walked into Marie's bedroom.
"Hello Ms. Marie, how are you doing?" Emily announced entering the room. "I'm doing well, and you Emily?" "I'm doing fine, thanks for letting me stay over." "It's not a problem, you seem like a nice responsible girl."
"I'm going to get out of these clothes and relax." "Ok mom, there's pizza in the oven if you're hungry, we are going back to my room."
Later on in Maya's room…
"Hey Maya, I was thinking about telling my mom that I'm gay and in a relationship with you. I wonder how she would take the news" Emily says with a chuckle.
"You think she would be mad at you babe? Sounds like you would get a kick out her reaction."
"She probably would be really shocked considering Ben and I were together. She don't know we have broken up so it might be a lot all at once. But I don't care, I want to be with you in private and out in public, I don't want to hide."
"I think you should probably wait until the Thanksgiving holiday is over. Dropping a bombshell on her like that would probably mess her mindset up and ruin the holiday energy."
"You might be right, I will wait until next week I guess. But I still want you to come over as my guest" she says caressing Maya's hand.
Emily is woken by an alert on her phone, unaware that Maya and she fell asleep she grabs her phone to see what time it was slightly bumping Maya in the process. "What time it is Emily, I didn't mean to fall asleep" she states stretching with her arms to the sky.
"It's 11:30, my battery is low can I use your charger? I forgot mines at home." "Yea, it's plugged in the outlet between the bed and the night stand next to you" she replies opening up her laptop and sitting back down on the bed.
"What do you want to do Emily? I'm not sleepy at all now, I feel like going out doing something" she says scanning her Facebook newsfeed. "Do you want to go out for a ride Em?" "Yea sure, do you mind if my friend Hanna tags along? She's been texting me the whole night saying how bored she is at home." Maya walks over to her closet to put a pair of shoes on, "Yes she can come, that's not a problem." "Ok I'm going to call her so she can be ready when we arrive."
"What's up Hanna" Emily says turning around to face her friend who just got inside Maya's car. "This is my girlfriend, Maya. Maya this is Hanna." "Hey" both girls say in unison. "It's nice to finally meet you Maya, Emily talks about you all the time" Hanna says smiling at both Emily and Maya. "It's about time you guys are together, you make such a beautiful couple by the way."
"Thanks Hanna, it's really nice to meet you as well." "I brought some wine coolers, are you guys fine with that?" Hanna asks grabbing the three bottles out of her purse. "Thanks Hanna I love wine coolers and you brought my favorite flavor Jamaican Me Happy" Maya replies opening up the bottle and taking a sip.
"Maya are you ok to drive" Emily asks putting her wine cooler in the cup holder. "Yea I'm fine it's just a wine cooler" she replies lighting up a blunt and taking a drag. "Eventually I'm going to pull over and park so we can just chill and enjoy the breeze."
Maya starts the ignition and turn on the car stereo. "Do you want to take a hit Hanna or Emily?" "Yea I'll take a hit" Hanna takes the blunt from Maya's hand. "Wow this is some good stuff, Maya" she compliments choking on the weed. "Are you smoking Emily?" Hanna asks holding out the blunt so Emily can take it.
Maya and Hanna hit it off from the start chatting about fashion, the hottest celebrities, and gossiping about acquaintances they both knew.
"You're a senior right Maya?" "Yup, last year of high school." "My boyfriend Caleb is a senior too, it's going to be bitter sweet when he leaves because I don't want to be without him but I want him to follow his dreams." "That's completely understandable, that's just like me and Emily. It's going to be depressing when we have to part ways but at the end of the day it's for a great cause" Maya responds taking a hit of the blunt.
"What university do you want to attend the most?" Hanna asks looking at phone. "I want to attend either U of I in Champagne or NIU in DeKalb. I would prefer NIU because its closer than U of I, which means it want take long for me to go back and forth. Plus I can see Emily on the weekends" she says reaching over the passenger's side to plant a peck on her girlfriends lips.
"That's sweet I love PDA" Hanna remarks. "I don't like it necessarily" Emily interjects. "I'll kiss Emily anywhere it don't matter." "But I know she doesn't like it so I won't do it."
"Caleb wants to go to NIU also, I think he is going to visit next week." "Yea I am too so I might see him there" she says looking back at Hanna. "Here this is a picture of us, so if you see him you would know how he looks." Hanna gives her phone to Maya so she can view the picture of the lovely couple.
"Cute picture, you have a handsome boyfriend" she replies giving Hanna back her phone. "Thanks, after we are done can you drop me off at his house if it's not a problem?" "Yea I'll drop you off."
"I had a good night Maya, I'm happy you and Hanna got along really well. I'm excited for you to hang with all of my friends together, you can bring Draya too." She announce climbing into the bed. "That sounds like a good plan, I think we all would get along just fine." Maya turns on the fan before getting into bed.
"I hope you don't mind, I like to sleep with the fan on at night it gets really stuffy." "It doesn't matter as long as sleeping in your arms I'm content" Emily professes cuddling along her girlfriend as they both draft off to sleep.
