Me: Hiya! Sorry, I meant to post this earlier, but I didn't finish it in time before I left for camp.

Naru: It's up now isn't it?

Mai: Yep!

Gene: Silver doesn't own Ghost Hunt. Please R&R!

Mai's POV:

After running away from the others I somehow ended up back at the cave whipping away tears that continued to fall and refused to stop. I didn't know where to go, so I just came here. It didn't matter that there was a ghost here that could kill me. I just needed to get away from Naru and his stupid face and rules.

"Stupid jerk, can't he see I was trying to help. I didn't mean to break his rule, but he was being too much." I mumbled, once again talking to myself as the tears finally started to subside leaving me just sniffling away.

"That still doesn't mean that you can break a promise." a voice said, making me freeze and look around in confusion. I felt a knot start to form in my gut, but it was nowhere near as alerting as it probably should have been for this kind of situation. "I will never forgive those who don't keep their words!" the voice cried out again, this time accompanied by a giant gut that flung me against the wall. I screamed as I flew through the air, and landed in a heap trying to regain my breath from the air that the spirit knocked out of me.

Looking up I saw the spirit straight up and saw that it was a girl around my age. She was dressed in an old styled kimono and was drenched in water. Her brown hair was let out from it's bun and was just a hot mess. As her dark brown eyes bore into my own cinnamon pool with a type of hatred that I didn't even know a person could posses. It scared me. It truly scared me and paralyzed my body so that I couldn't even move. She took a step closer to me and I shut my eyes tight when a heavenly sound reached my ears.

"Mai!" A voice cried. Looking towards the mouth of the cave I saw Kagy huffing and running over to me, only for her to stop when she sees the spirit. Instead of the initial fear that I expected her to have, she stared surprised at her before it narrowed into a glare like she had given Naru on multiple occasions.

"Kagy! Get out of here, it's dangerous!" I cried, finally able to do something besides cower in fear to the spirit in front of me. She moved her gaze to me and I could help but sweat drop at the expression she wore.

"No shit, why else do you think I ran after you!" she said, giving me a look that told me that she would have slapped me upside the head if I was within her arm's reach. However, our little moment was destroyed by our lovely cave spirit.

"Insolent child, die!" she cried, flinging her hand out towards me and sending a wind-sickle my way. I braced myself for the impact by covering my face with my hands and cried out.

"Look out Mai!" Kagy shouted, the next thing I knew I was pulled and pushed down by something warm.

It groaned and when I registered what happened I opened my eyes to confirm and found Kaguya over me with a large cut mark made on the cave wall where I had been before she had pushed me out of the way. Kaguya wasn't moving and the worst passed through my mind as I reached out and shook her shoulder praying to God that she was alright. I felt something wet on her clothing and when I took my hand back I saw it covered in a nice thick layer or red. My eyes widened as panic filled me and I once again began to shake her.

"Kagy? Kagy!"

"I'm alright." she muttered, making a huge weight lift from my chest as she sat up and glared over towards our attacker. The ghost narrowed her eyes right back and raised her hand preparing for yet another attack.

"Move or die as well."

"Not happening. You're not touching a hair on Mai's pretty little head." she said, a challenging gleam in her eyes as she held me to her and shielded me with her body.

"Then share her fate." she said, putting her other hand up to join as she charged for her next attack. My eyes widened at the severity of our situation and knew that it was highly unlikely that we were going to get away unsaved. Or get away at all in all honesty.

"Kagy, let go, save yourself." I said, trying to pry myself out of my friend's arms to try and switch us so that it would be her that would be protected instead of myself.

"And loose the only tie to my family, as well as my only friend here? Not gonna happen." She growled, holding me tighter and bracing herself for the attack that we knew would come.

"Die!" the spirit screamed, sending her super charged wind-sickle towards us. We closed our eyes and waited, knowing that there was no way that either of us would survive that attack. After a moment of not even having a little stir of air around us we began to wonder what the big hold up was.

"Are we dead?" I asked, wondering why we didn't feel anything. The only thing that I could come up with was that pour deaths we so quick that we didn't even feel the pain.

"I don't think so." she whispered back, still having a tight hold on me, just in case. "Did she even do anything?"

"Dunno, but I'll check." I offered, opening my eyes and glancing through the cracks in Kagy's defense. The sight before me made me gawk and stare, not quite sure what I was seeing."What the-"

"What is it Mai?" she asked, releasing her hold a bit and looking up herself. When she caught a glance of what was around us her arms dropped to her sides as her mouth hung open. "Whoa."

Both of us were transfixed by the miracle that had taken place. All around us a ka-kai barrier had formed, and it was so strong that you could actually see the boundaries and what it intact protected. It was white hazy dome with an orange tint that was about two yards in diameter. It surrounded and housed us perfectly in the center of it's little cocoon, keeping us safe from the spirit that was outside. The barrier was designed to allow us to look out and see the spirit, but whether or not it could see us too I don't know.

What I did know was that we were safe for the moment and that the spirit was baffled by what had just happened. It kinda reminded me of Monk and what he could do, but the strange heaviness in the air and the static that I felt made it seem to be more like Naru then anything else. I knew that I didn't cause it, and a random idea of it being Kagy flashed through my mind.

"Are you doing this?" I asked, wondering if not then maybe she would know what it actually was since this was one of her favorite places to go.

"I have no idea." Looking over at her I felt my eyes widen again as I took in my newest friends appearance.

"Your hair!" I exclaimed, pointing to the part of her that had now captured my attention from the ka-kai barrier that had just saved us. She rose a brow at me in question and gestured for me to continue to which I gladly did. "It's white!"

"Eh?!" She cried, eyes widening as my words sunk into her mind.

Her hands reaching up and grabbing her silvery locks, pulling them forward to confirm it for her self. The color in her face drained as it registered in her head what had happened, and I became at a total loss for how her brown hair had turned white in a matter of mere seconds. Before I could ponder more on this however, a banging on the outside of the barrier reminded me that, although we were currently safe, there was still a hostile spirit beyond this safe haven that sooner or later we would have to face.

"What is this?!" she cried, banging again and again on the wall making the sound echo within the dome. "Get out of my way!"

"Kagy, if you are doing this, don't stop." I said, already just assuming that it was her since her hair was acting up and being all weird. She nodded her head and laughed nervously as she watched the spirit flip out over the barrier from her spot next to me.

"I'll try not to, but it would be nice to know what exactly I did and how not to stop it."

"Yeah, that would be nice to know." I agreed, sweat-dropping at how true that statement was. We sat there in silence, just waiting and watching, hoping that the gang would get here in time to stop her before anything happening, but it seemed that our luck was starting to finally run out as the spirit began to attack the ka-kai barrier with one wind-sickle after another. Slowly we could see the the thickness and strength of the barrier start to fade.

"Shit, it's starting to break." Kagy stated, once again wrapping her arms around me to act as a human barrier once this thing went down. Finally after a few more attacks it shattered like a piece of glass and nothing stood between us and the spirit any longer. Kagy's hair went back to being brown with red tips, and it only concluded that she had formed the barrier unconsciously. It would be something that we would have to look into, if we survived this ordeal that is. She smiled triumphantly at sand we knew then that our goose was cooked.

"Ha-ha, finally, now di-"

"Mai!" A voice called, cutting her off and lighting up hope back into my heart.

"Angel!" another cried, sounding identical to the previous. Kagy and I looked at one another and beamed, knowing the twins' voices anywhere. The spirit scoffed at the intuition.

"Damn pests."she growled, refocusing her attention back onto us. Her stance once again was that of a wind-sickle, but Monk's voice rang out in a familiar phrase that had saved me on more then one occasion.

"Namaku san man dan, bazara dan kan. Namaku san man dan, bazara dan kan. Namaku san man dan, bazara dan kan!" he chanted, coming into view with his hands set into the immovable-one. The spirit faltered back to the warding chant, but she persevered and stood her ground unlike many of those before her.

"Ugh, I won't leave, not until I've gotten you." She cried, glaring at me and making my eyes widen as she once again put her hands up.

Before she could even concentrate on raising any power to attack though, a whistle rang through the air, and a shot of light blasted through her, followed by multiple others. She cried out in agony as she was attacked, and faded away, binding herself for another day. Looking to the mouth of the cave I already knew who it was that really saved the day. Lin calmly joined Monk and was quickly followed by the rest of the team, and relief washed over me as I finally knew that we were safe and gonna be okay.

"Nicely done Lin." Naru complemented, nodding to his mentor as he made his way over to us along with his mirror image.

"Are you girls alright?" Gene asked, looking us both over, worry clearly seen in his eyes.

"I think so." I said, standing up on shaky legs from the whole ordeal. Monk picked me up and held me close happy that I was alright. He didn't say anything, but I could tell by how tight I was being held that he was worried by a lot. The thought alone made me happy, and I hauled back just to reenforce my earlier statement. Kaguya watched from the ground with a small smile on her face and glanced up at Gene as he offered her his hand. She gladly took his offered, and he slowly pulled her up off the ground.

"Yep, no need to wor-ugh." Kaguya said, taking a step forward to the rest of the group, only to sway a bit and crash back down holding her injured shoulder.

"Angel!" Gene cried, catching her before her head hit the found and held her close as Ayako joined him and placed a hand on her forehead.

"She's got a fever." she announced, retracting her hand away and looking at the young girl in Gene's arms with worry. Gene clenched his teeth as his expression turned serious and hold on her tightened.

"Damn it, you really need to learn when to stop pushing yourself." he scolded, picking her up in his arms and standing up, cradling her to his chest like a child. He exchanged glances with his brother and Naru nodded to whatever it was they had said to each other via telepathy. Stupid twins and their ability to read each others' minds.

"Ayako, see to their injuries, and once you're done with that care for Kaguya." Naru said, making eye contact with our personal team doctor.

"Roger." she replied, looking me over for anything serious, but I already knew that it was Kaguya that took the brunt of the hits for me.

"I'm fine, just dizzy." Kaguya protested, struggling a bit to get out of Gene's hold, only for him to tighten it even more.

"Dizzy my ass." he said, readjusting her as she kept on squirming to try and get free from his hold.

"Your butt is dizzy, I think you need to get that checked out Kane." she joked, smiling weakly at him as she finally managed to get out of his arms and on her own two feet once again. Her retort though made his eyes narrow at his beloved girlfriend.

"You know what I mean."

"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine. Just need to sit down for a bit is all."

"Alright, but take it easy." Gene said, rolling his eyes as he finally gave into Kagy's demands to be the strong woman she was. She only rolled her eyes at him in response and smiled lovingly back at him.

"Fine, fine."

"Mai, I expect an explanation." Naru said, drawing my attention away from the two love birds and back onto my boss who was more then likely ready to kill me for running off yet again and following my tendency to getting attacked.

"Yes Naru." I said, looking over at Kaguya wonder what actually did happen and how t even begin to explain it.

Me: And another chapter done!

Naru: Thank God.

Gene: Please review!
