It was 3:45 AM when Sayaka finally gave up on sleeping, she figured it wouldn't help much anyway. Sleeping would make the night go by faster, and she really didn't want morning to come any quicker than it already was.
She had texted Kyoko a few moments ago, despite knowing the girl was asleep. She said she would talk to her in the morning and finally tell her what's bothering her.
With her music on so loud she couldn't hear herself breathing, she regrets the decision almost immediately. Not that she doesn't want to get everything off her chest, she just doesn't know how to word it all.
How would she word the fact that Kyousuke forgot to tell her he was getting discharged? How should she tell Kyoko about the fight they had? How could she say that Kyousuke had gotten together with Hitomi?
How would she put into words, just how confused she was about everything?
Frustrated with herself, Sayaka pulled off her headphones and paused her music, opening her door and heading to the kitchen. Warm milk will calm me down, she thought to herself as she pulled a mug from the top cabinet.
Half a mug of milk later, a hesitant knock sounded at her door. In an odd way Sayaka knew she recognized it, and not sensing any danger she opened the door. Kyoko stood there in all her half awake glory, long red hair thrown every which way and her usual greenish blue hoodie hanging oer her shoulders.
"Kyoko," the blue-haired girl blinked in surprise "What brings you here at... three fifty-three in the morning?" Sayaka tilted her head to the side, gripping her mug tighter.
"I uh, saw you texted me and I couldn't sleep so..." Kyoko glanced to the side, scratching the side of her face. "I thought maybe we could talk for a bit?"
Sayaka nodded despite the nervous feeling quickly building in her chest. After having kicked her boots off, Kyoko flopped onto Sayaka's couch and patted the spot beside her. Still keeping her iron grip on her mug, the blue-haired girl settled next to her friend, not taking her eyes off the floor.
"I..." she started quietly, biting her lip as she trailed off. "It's just... Well..." Kyoko sighed and placed her hand over Sayaka's death grip, rubbing her thumb over her knuckles.
"Ya don't need to rush Sayaka," the redhead smiled to no one in particular and Sayaka nodded, finally looking up.
"Kyoko, how can you tell when you love someone?"
The question wasn't what the redhead was expecting at all, and honestly she didn't know what she was expecting but it certainly wasn't that.
"Wh-why do you ask?" she spluttered, momentarily taking her hand off the other girl's.
Sayaka felt her chest seize up as she tried to put all the words int he right order. She let out a held breath and told Kyoko everything, finishing her milk and curling in on herself somewhere along the way.
"And e-even though he's dat-t-ting Hitomi... I don't feel l-like I think I should?" the blue-haired girl sniffles, a familiar sting notifying her of oncoming tears. "And I'm just... so confused."
Kyoko pulled the crying girl into her arms and just held her for a moment.
"It's alright if you're confused about this, no one's gonna blame ya," the redhead murmured as she stroked Sayaka's hair.
"Th-thanks... and, uh," Sayaka hiccuped, wrapping her arms a little tighter around Kyoko's waist.
"Someone you love," Kyoko smiled down at her, "Might not make you feel all fuzzy, but whenever you're with them, you feel like you're at home."
The redhead felt Sayaka nod against her chest, sniffling a little more a she finally calmed down. The two stayed like that for a long time, and the blue-haired girl had almost fallen asleep when Kyoko spoke again.
"D'you want me to stay with you?"
"Mmhm."
Sayaka realized as a hoodie was draped over her back that she had never felt more at home in her life.
