Amelia's POV
At least Nico was honest. This cabin was anything but quiet. In fact, there was a constant flurry of people coming in and out all the time. Unfortunately for me, most of the people coming in were coming to see me.
I admit now that I've never been particularly fond of being the centre of attention but right now, all I wanted was to think and instead I'm mobbed by strangers. But I'm just riding it out. For now.
A little girl with brown hair put up in bunches and a wide smile on her face came rushing in and upon seeing me, changed direction towards me. She seemed nice so I forced a smile as she enthusiastically stuck out her hand.
"Hello! You must be Amelia. Right?" she asked. I nodded my head, already liking this girl for some reason. "That's good! I'm Piper and from now I am officially your best friend!" she declared rapidly afterwards.
I froze and stared at her, not wanting to upset her as she seemed so young.
"I'm sure that that is not how it works Piper." Amy declared. Amy had blonde hair and slightly chubby features. She had been the first one to introduce herself and was the only that I truly liked to any degree.
"Really? Why not." Piper demanded. Obviously not seeing the sense in making her my best friend without even knowing anything about me.
"You don't know anything about her for starters." Amy replied as if reading my mind. Pier looked puzzled.
"But I know lots about her."
"Oh really?"
"Yes, her name is Amelia. She has brown hair. She used to live in a house. Um… She is also the daughter of-"
"Let her find that out for herself." Amy interrupted. Hustling Piper out of the cabin whilst I stood up going to follow. I got as far as the door before I was pulled back. I flinched and flung my arm out at the person before I realised enough to stop.
Damn instincts. She thought to herself.
She heard a surprised grunt and turned to find somebody who I didn't know.
"I'm so sorry." Amelia apologised whilst backing up with her hands up.
The boy looked up at her kindly.
"I'm Kyle." He said. Amelia stopped moving. Why was he being so kind to her after she'd just hit him.
"Uh…Amelia." She replied hesitantly.
"You pack quite a punch. I'd hate to be your enemy."
"Uh…Yea…Sorry about that." She said, laughing slightly.
"So how old are you?"
"What's the date?"
"24th October."
Amelia sighed heavily.
"Sixteen, as of last month."
"No way! I am too! What day?"
"13th September."
"That is weird. So am I."
Amelia simply nodded at this news then turned to leave.
"Where are you going?" Kyle asked tentatively.
"I don't know," she answered honestly. Thinking that she owed Kyle honesty after hitting him when he was only trying to be nice.
"Let me show you a place." He suggested. I didn't know him that well but didn't see any harm in it so nodded.
He smiled and gently pushed me out of the cabin ahead of him.
"What was up with that…Pippa? Piper?" Amelia asked him once they started to walk.
"Piper, yes…Um…how to put this…"
Amelia waited patiently for an answer as they walked past a basketball game. She gawped at the height of the hoops and how easily a boy landed the ball into it. Kyle's gentle pull on her arm started her walking again as he answered.
"Piper is the daughter of Apollo and for some reason or another she has inherited the ability of prophecy. But not just any prophecy ability. She can see who the godly parent of a demigod is."
"What? How is that possible?"
"I don't know but she is what she is. There are the drawbacks though."
"How so?"
They'd reached the edge of a forest now and had started walking in amongst the trees. Amelia noticed the lack of birdsong then concentrated on what Kyle was saying.
"As I said, she can only see the parent. So if she doesn't recognise the parent then she can only describe them. Also, she's been strictly forbidden from telling people who have no idea who their godly parent is. For obvious reasons."
"Obvious…Yes…" Amelia answered, having no idea what reasons there would be. Wouldn't it be helpful to know who you are supposed to descend from?
"Anyway, we're here." He declared as they walked out into a massive clearing. The grass had been left to grow wild and so had the flowers and plants. It was beautiful but for the lack of any animals. She briefly wondered why that was before Kyle pulled her over to the centre and sat down. She sat down beside him.
I'm going to leave it there. It may seem like a weird place to stop but it will make sense. Thank you for reading!
