I do not own Code Geass.

Epiphany

The Road Not Taken

He could disappear now. Truly just vanish from the face of the earth.

With this new power it would not be too difficult. There were so few people who actually know who we were. The Ashford's and Sayoko were the only people. It would not be difficult, not in the least.

He could wipe their memories. He could get some nobles to care for them. Perhaps he could even clear his own mind? Or Nunnally's? Would she regain her eyesight if he were to take away her memories? She might.

… would it be worth it though? To take away what little she remembered off their mother, of their life together before they were cast aside? Could he condone blatantly stealing something as sacred as a memory from the one person he cherished more than anything else?

No. That was something that bastard would do. He couldn't. Not to Nunnally. Not ever.

And could he really take her away? She was still blind, yes, but she had friends. She had a place to truly live, to be her herself. Could he take away her contentment? Could he really steal away that small little smile that brightened his entire day?

Was he that kind of monster?

He dragged his tired eyes to his bed, currently claimed by his partner in crime. There had to be an easier way. There had to be. A rebellion like this was a fool's pipedream. An overly optimistic mission for any one man to take on.

Destroy Brittania? With only one man? No army, no back up, no hidden resources, no fanatical soldiers? No greater ideal than just casting down the regime?

He would have no soldiers. He would have no support. He would truly be alone against the entire world. Well, almost. This C.C. would stand by him. Not like she'd have much to lose, as it were… except her freedom.

… And he could have more, couldn't he? Eye contact and he'd have a slave, willing to o what he wanted forever. And the whole of Japan was just full of ready soldiers, already trained, access to resources, a complete infrastructure…

No. Freedom was sacred. He couldn't do something like that on a whim. Not every soldier followed Darwin. Not every Citizen had had a choice. He couldn't steal something so sacred.

But hadn't he already taken someone's freedom? No… rather, she'd offered it to him.

That kind of power was … intoxicating, if he were honest.

But no, even with her help, he could not prevail alone, nor could he prevail with an army of slaves. He was still but a man.

A mere man could not stand against an empire…

But a symbol? Ah, that showed quite a bit more promise…

AN: This is now officially the last update to Epiphany. It's been too long since I finished Code Geass and there's not enough time to re-watch it, so sorry guys.

I do however hope you enjoy this last little epiphany, where Lelouch realizes there are some lines he wouldn't cross.

And yes, I do believe Frost's poem fits Lulu extremely well. Like a glove, if you will…

I hope you enjoyed these little snippets.

Read, enjoy and review.
