The End of the World Spell

The Steeple

"You have no idea how much you actually say with your body, do you?"

Louise looked at her infuriating famil- partner. He was her partner. Brimir damn his silver tongue.

She arched a brow at him, carefully schooling her features into neutrality. "I don't think I do, no."

She couldn't see the smug bastard's mouth, but she'd bet everything that she might get to inherit that he was smirking behind his hands.

"Like now, for example. Your face is carefully neutral, more so then what I would have expected when I first met you. But your body betrays your annoyance. Your feet are restless, your shoulders to tense, your neck in just the wrong position. It's the subtle things. It I not yet a liability, but it might become one should you not be careful."

And, damn him, he was right. He almost always was. She couldn't read a damn thing from him, even with her mother's training. Oh Brimir, that would be a disaster, those two in the same room… she couldn't be assured he'd survive.

He sat like a statue. Unmoving, seemingly eternal. The light that played off his spectacles just made him seem even more removed from the conversation. But then he removed his hands and the smirk was plainly evident.

"But we have time still. We're going to go far, you and I. After all, you still have to return me to my Yui…"

AN: Yeah, a short one, but I couldn't do this Magnificent Bastard justice…

Read, enjoy and review.

PS – if you don't know who this is? *sighs* you're missing out… Gendo Ikari, the most bastardly father ever from the very F'd up world of Neon Genesis Evangelion… funny that I should write this chapter on my dad's birthday though *facepalm*.
