Author's Note: I've been playing a lot of Skyrim. I mean A LOT. I wound up becoming a vampire in Dawnguard and Lydia was apparently... less than happy about it. She's one of my favorite companions to have but I'm becoming concerned at how many times she's said this . When fighting bears, spriggons, dragons, bandits, etc. But she never says it when we're fighting bad vamps! Wtf Lydia -_-
The bear stood on its hind legs, bellowing its fury at me. "Lydia! I could use some help over here!" I yelled, daring a glance over my shoulder; my red eyes scanning the darkness and finding that she was nowhere to be found. I hissed in anger and turned back to the bear, just in time to duck under a horizontal strike that would have taken my head off.
Suddenly Lydia leaped from the shadows from behind the bear, her war cry being "Burn it! Burn the vampire!" as she swung her Honed Ancient Nord Greatsword at its haunches.
The bear and I froze mid-strike, both of us looking at my companion with our mouths hanging open. The bear's brown eyes met mine of crimson as Lydia froze. "Umm... I mean burn the bear? Kill it with fire?" She offered sheepishly, nervously rolling the hilt of her greatsword in her hands.
"That's fucked up," The bear said, dumbfounded, to Lydia, shaking its head before turning to lumber away, the battle forgotten and the damp air of the cave filled with awkwardness.
"Lydia, I never even use destruction magic, you know that," I said, giving her a look.
She awkwardly cleared her throat and grabbed the crossbow that the Dawnguard had given me before I began to work with the vampires, and fired a bolt into the bear's back as it limped away, effectively delivering the killing blow. "Now we should have enough bear pelts for Temba," She said, quickly changing the subject before giving the weapon back to me with a weak smile.
I slung the crossbow back to its place on my back, giving her another look before approaching the bear's carcass, knife ready to skin it. She produced a torch and stood nearby, illuminating the small space with the extra light.
"How about you stand in front of me with that torch, keep it where I can see it, hmm?" I said nervously, walking to the other side of the bear, eyeing her out of the corner of my eye.
Lydia blushed and awkwardly cleared her throat again, looking off into the blackness of the cave.
