Complete and utter darkness surrounded Aurorastar. It was cold and unforgiving, drowning out all her senses. She could feel her body failing her, her mind drifting away.
Aurorastar.
She could feel her eyelids prying open, though more darkness greeted her.
Aurorastar, get up.
"Who's there?" she rasped out, lifting her body up and onto her paws.
"Aurorastar."
Blinding light burst out through the darkness, causing Aurorastar to screw her eyes shut. Golden light shined in through her eyelids, and eventually she was able to open them into small slits.
"It's been a long time since I've seen your face, precious daughter."
Immediately the SunClan leader flashed open her eyes, ignoring the light that was threatening to stop her from seeing what lay before her. After a few moments, her eyes focused in, and Aurorastar found herself standing in a forest similar to that of SunClan.
A golden and white she-cat, whose pelt shined with starlight, began to move towards her.
Aurorastar gaped. "Sunfire?"
The she-cat shuffled her paws. "It has been a while, I know."
Aurorastar was speechless. Standing before her was the cat who had cared for her as a kit, supported her through apprenticeship, only to die before she could even see Aurorastar's warrior ceremony.
Her mother.
"But-but you weren't even at my leadership ceremony! I never saw you once you died."
Sunfire stared up at Aurorastar, her shining golden eyes full of regret. "I was not able to come. I have had an important role here in StarClan, unfortunately one I cannot share with you." She took a step forward. "But you have no idea how proud I am of you. Of you and your sister."
Aurorastar sighed, wishing to drop the topic. "What happened to me?"
"You have lost your second life," Sunfire meowed solemnly. "You have lost a lot of blood and are very weak, so you may have to spend a little more time than usual here in StarClan."
Aurorastar felt her body stiffen. "And what of my kits?! Are they alright? Nightsun, he-" Sunfire silenced her with a flick of her tail.
"They are all fine," she murmured. "Fine for now..."
Aurorastar opened her jaws to speak, but Sunfire continued.
"You have gone through many hardships, but I am afraid you are not done yet."
Aurorastar clenched her teeth with frustration. "If something happens to my Clan or kits-" she stopped, noticing that Sunfire had drifted off, a clouded expression on her face.
"Stay strong, Aurorastar, for danger still stalks in the shadows. The black night looms over you, and it is ready to strike."
Aurorastar felt her eyes narrowing into slits.
"Something is coming, Aurorastar. Death follows your Clan, and the black night will bring great fear when it attacks." Sunfire gazed at Aurorastar, and the SunClan leader could feel her mother's stare piercing into her skull.
"You must be ready."
Aurorastar's eyes snapped open, stickiness gathering at the lids. She blinked it away, staring at her surroundings.
She was back in Starwhisper's den.
And five tiny kits were nestled in a nearby nest, snuggling up to another black-pelted body.
"My kits," Aurorastar rasped out.
The black pelt shifted, and Nightsun's golden gaze met her blue one.
"You're okay!" he cried out, leaping to his paws and racing over.
"Of course I am, furball," Aurorastar whispered as Nightsun covered her with nuzzles and licks. She could feel tears streaming out of her eyes as she buried her muzzle in her mate's shoulder.
"I thought you weren't coming back," he murmured.
"I wouldn't ever do that to you," she replied.
There was a long silence as the two cats stood there, supporting one another. Aurorastar could feel quiet sobs racking Nightsun's body, and gently pulled him closer.
"We're parents now," he whispered, awe seeming to tone his voice.
Aurorastar drew her head up, looking over to the nest where Nightsun had been. She could see little fluffy bundles of fur, a few mews rising from their mouths.
"How long have I been unconscious?"
"Most of the day," Nightsun said, not taking his eyes off of the kits. "Starwhisper said you would need time to recover."
"Where is she anyway?"
"Out collecting herbs. Birchleaf is in the back, doing some medicine cat thing. They asked me to stay here in case anything happened." His eyes drifted to Aurorastar. They were filled with love. "Would you like to see our kits?"
Aurorastar stood up, feeling the blood rush from her head, causing dizziness. Nightsun stabled her, and helped as she began to amble towards the nest.
With a huff, Aurorastar collapsed, dropping down next to the mossy surface and flinching as her chin hit the hard surface. She heard a chorus of mews, and gazed up to see that she was nose to nose with a kit.
It was a tom, tinier than most newborns, with a dark gray-black tabby pelt, now fluffy and soft looking. His eyes were shut, and his tiny gray nose was twitching.
Aurorastar smiled, rasping her tongue over his chin. He let out a squeal, causing Aurorastar's heart to warm up.
"Smokekit," she whispered. "I want to name this one Smokekit."
"Smokekit is a wonderful name," Nightsun meowed. His voice was the softest Aurorastar had ever heard it. "It suites him."
Motherly instincts kicked in as Aurorastar settled down in the nest, picking up Smokekit gently and placing him at her belly. He was squealing again, but stopped as he latched on to her belly, kneading hungrily.
Aurorastar's deep blue eyes turned to the other four kits. Anxiety began creeping into her body. "They're so small. I've never seen kits born so tiny."
Nightsun licked one of the kits. "Then we will do everything in our power to make sure they survive." He nosed the kit he was licking. It was another tom with an unusual reddish golden pelt.
Aurorastar looked at the kit with pure love filling her body. The tom had the same body shape as Nightsun. The way the shoulders moved outward and the broad looking head.
There is no doubt that Nightsun is the father of these kits.
"That one looks like you," Aurorastar meowed.
"In the body shape, yes." Nightsun nodded. "But the color of his pelt looks just like my own father." He smiled. "Starwhisper said this one was the first one born."
"What should we name him?"
Nightsun pondered the question for a few moments before replying, "I like the name Miragekit."
Aurorastar pulled the kit close to her stomach with one paw. "Miragekit it is," she rasped, watching as he settled down beside his brother.
The leader looked up once more. There were three kits left, lying down near Aurorastar's front paws. One kit was squinting around, mewing angrily.
"You've got spirit, little kit," she mewed, grabbing it with her teeth. It was a light gray she-cat, it's fur unusually softer than the rest.
"This one will be Mosskit," she mewed as the little she-cat crawled its way in next to Miragekit.
At the smell of milk, the last little she-cat began letting out pitiful mews. Aurorastar stiffened when the kit made no move to start moving towards the scent though.
Nightsun seemed to share Aurorastar's worry, as he picked the kit up and carried her over to Aurorastar.
"Starwhisper was worried about these two kits," Nightsun mumbled. "That one, mostly."
Aurorastar followed Nightsun's gaze to the last kit, a mottled golden brown tom. He was puny, about the size of Aurorastar's forepaw.
"Oh, StarClan," Aurorastar whispered, unlatching herself from the already nursing kits and rushing over to the little tom. She buried her nose in the kit's tiny body. He barely reacted.
She began rasping her tongue along his thin furred body. Her touch became more and more firm until the kit finally let out a pitiful squeal.
Tension engulfing her weak body, and she carried over the kit, placing him next to the other kits, who were now mewing angrily. When Miragekit pushed the little golden brown kit out of the way, the tiny kit didn't react, just fell to the ground.
Aurorastar curled a paw around his body, pushing him closer and desperately hoping he would begin to feed.
"Lifekit," she whispered. "I name him Lifekit, in hope that he may be gifted with life."
Nightsun's solemn gaze was rested on Lifekit. He looked defeated. The two cats stood there in silence for a moment before Nightsun nudged the last unamed kit, a black she-cat with splashes of gold and white fur marking her body.
"How about Dewkit?" he meowed halfheartedly.
"I like Dewkit," Aurorastar murmured. But her mind now held only one single thought.
StarClan, please let my kits live.
A/N: Yes, I know, I'm a complete jerk and stuff. I had a writer's block, was busy, and Fanfiction was being weird to me (It still is as I speak). So I'm sorry, but I do hope I can finish this story ASAP so I can go back to The Blazing Sky as well as start this story's sequel. I know you are all thinking "no one really even liked this story, it was so unpopular and dumb" or whatever you think. I know it wasn't popular and didn't score on everyone's favorite list, one reason probably because everyone must hate the names in this story because it doesn't mainly follow the names in the actual Warriors Books. I'm sorry you don't like the names. Next time I'll tell my friends not to be creative when creating a Warriors roleplay Clan. And if any of you are curious, this story is set in the way future. They're bound to learn more education, therefore add new words into their names and vocabulary. Yeah I know, I'm rambling and probably acting like a jerk. I know I am, I just wanted to say that. I love SunClan so much, there is no way I was gonna give up on this story, nor not write the sequel. I love to write, and I'm sorry so few of you don't appreciate it. Anyway, if you read, Follow, Review this story, I'll love you forever, cause I have put a lot of work into it. If you read my sequel in the following week or so, I'll love you for that too ;)
Review: Lazy Watermelon- You'll see how it all works out with SunClan and the kits in these last couple chapters as well as the sequel. ;) And yes, as you see, I will/did name a kit Dewkit! :D Thanks for the review!
