What happened last:

Finn and Marceline drunkenly stumbled into a very familiar looking closet to have some intimate alone time. Everything was going as planned until Finn noticed something off about Marceline. Now it's time to find out what happened and why.

She began to narrate her terrible tale of sadness, loss and suicide attempts and Finn sat there in silence and listened to every word…

It's been exactly one year since Simon Petrikov went insane and left Marceline Abadeer alone to fend for herself in the desolate wasteland of the post-apocalyptic world that was now nameless after the years of devastating war and conflict.

Marceline was near the place that Simon left a year ago. She knew that she needed to go to different locations and scavenge for supplies and food to keep her alive from day to day but she occasionally found herself returning to the same place over and over.

She never got further than 50 miles from the place that she lost Simon to his insanity for an entire year. It made things incredibly difficult for her but Simon taught her enough to keep her alive. He taught her to hunt like the most seasoned hunter and to scavenge like a veteran nomad. All of these things were taught slowly and in moderation over a few years and were now becoming the skill set to keep the soon-to-be vampire alive.

Marceline was walking along the empty road that led to the epicenter of the largest bombing attack during the entire war. The second largest attack was created by about 12,000 bombs. This one only took one. It was the bomb that was never supposed to have been used. The amount of destruction and devastation that it caused goes without saying… It ended the war.

With every step she could hear gravel crunching under her feet. There was moss and grass growing in every crack on the streets and sidewalks. There were large ferns growing in some of the larger patches of grass on the side of the road.

It seems as if the plants could easily move on, but that wasn't soo easy for Marceline. She lost the only friend she's ever known for the longest time. Simon was her father figure for many years but he left after a psychotic episode due to the crown's corrupting influence.

The world was still in a desolate state where everything was falling apart and fragile. Everything was also mostly overgrown.

M: "Almost there…" She said as she hiked her backpack up higher on her back because it started to feel uncomfortable.

She knew that she was going to where she lost Simon and she knew that it was a bad idea but she didn't care. She missed Simon and would stop at nothing to save him although she didn't know how or even where he was for that matter.

She finally came up on the mostly destroyed building where she and Simon fled from the massive sludge beast a year ago. She entered through the front door and saw all of the rubble on the ground from when the beast smashed in a large part of the ceiling.

Little Marcy was speechless; nothing had changed and there was no sign of anyone ever coming back to this location. She kept walking around the building just to reflect on depressing memories of past events that took place here.

Her heart began to sink as she walked towards the back door. She remembered a conversation she had with Simon about how the door worked, It was a relatively insignificant memory on an normal basis but it was a sad memory that reminded her how her life was changed forever a year ago by a man that only ever wanted her happy.

He never knew that Marcy was happy when he was around. All she ever wanted was to not be alone. With Simon by her side as her mentor and father figure, she could have died happy even though she was merely a little girl.

He never knew that she would rather die than lose him. She had been a survivor for over a year all by her lonesome. She had to fend off the irradiated zombie-like creatures, wild animals and the occasional human survivor that some would call raiders or bandits. She felt the cold steel of her life crashing down on her many times.

She found that hurting herself could always temporarily make the pain of losing the only person to care for her go away. So that's what she did. She had only started doing it a few months prior, after all of her hope that Simon would one day return went away. It's kept her a bit less suicidal for a good bit of time, but even her own methods couldn't save her for long.

She walked out the back door and her whole world seemed to move in slow motion. Her heart was beating hard in her chest but very slowly. She saw the same thing that she saw a year ago when she was out here. The massive hole in the ground was at the sight of Simon's transformation from the father figure she knew and loved to Ice King, the maniac. Her manic depression was telling her that life would never get better and that Simon would never come back because he didn't care about her. Everything that she's gone through has been in vain and there's only one solution…

A permanent solution for a temporary problem...

M: "I guess it's safe to say… you're never coming back." She said into the sky as the subtle sound of thunder rumbled in the sky.

It started to rain slightly then it quickly picked up. The rain fit the mood properly.

M: "And… I understand why you wouldn't want to, Simon…" She was almost talking to herself at this point or at least… trying to talk to Simon but in vain. It was as if she was saying her last words but sadly nobody was listening. She walked towards the large crater and got close to the edge.

Once again she was blaming herself for everything that happened. She thinks that it's her fault that Simon went insane and left.

M: "So… there's just one last thing that I feel like I have to say as I stand here reflecting on this mess I made. I'm sorry Simon. I messed everything up and I should have been able to save you but I didn't know how. So I've decided to make sure I can never mess anything up for you ever again." She started to cry as she spoke.

She walked closer to the edge of the crater and looked down. The entire area below her was generally a downward slope but the initial drop was at least 40 feet. She didn't know what it would take to kill herself, but Simon said that the drop would be enough to probably kill them. He also said that it was a much further drop than it really was.

For an entire year Marceline tried her best to forget about Simon Petrikov in order to numb the pain from losing him. She started blaming him for leaving her all alone and putting her through all of this after months of staying true to her promise to him; to forgive him for whatever he did, when he no longer remembers her.

She knew that she broke that promise the minute she let her heart believe that it was Simon's fault and now it has caused soo much internal turmoil that she can't bear to live with it anymore.

She began to cry profusely as she put her toes on the edge of the crater. It would be hard to tell that she was crying due to the rain pouring harder and harder by the minute. She then closed her eyed and said her last words.

She recited a line in a poem that she wrote one night over the past year of surviving. It was one thing that helped keep her sane but it wasn't enough.

Nothing was ever enough…

M: "I know I bend and I break all my promises, but now it's time for the truth… I keep my head in the clouds in the hopes that I can just be invisible to you…"

The poem roughly depicts the entire situation after Simon left and how she coped with him being gone. She knows that she broke her promise to him and she always tried to keep her mind occupied so that she could forget him as much as possible. But it never worked like it should have and that's why she's in this situation.

Marceline kept crying her eyes out for a few second until she was about to finally take the final leap of faith. She quickly calmed down once faced with the fact that it was all about to finally end and she wouldn't have to suffer anymore. And for a spit second… she felt happy.

She wouldn't have to suffer.

She wouldn't have to struggle.

She wouldn't have to survive.

She wouldn't have to forget.

She was ready to ascend into one of the dead worlds and leave behind all her troubles. She actually wanted to die and she was happy to have found a way to do it. Guns were too messy and were almost impossible to find and she didn't have to guts to use one for this. Hanging was also something that seemed too scary to do for her. Any other obvious methods were either impractical or she couldn't find the means to do it or the mental fortitude to do it.

She never wanted to end her own life because she knew that it was selfish and she would die without a purpose. But now, her reasons to live were all gone.

Is it truly selfish if nobody cares?

The biggest thing that prevented her from suicide was that she didn't want to die without some sort of meaning to her death. Now she found it. She wanted to die in the place where the only friendship she ever really had already died. It wasn't ideal but it was enough to give her a reason… or an excuse.

Little Marceline stood at the edge of the world, ready to meet her fate; or at least to meet what she believed was her fate. Her eyes were closed and she took in all of the stimuli that her senses would pick up as she prepared to die. Her hair was blowing gently in the wind and she started to cry.

She didn't know if she was crying out of the fear that her life was about to end or out of joy because she wouldn't need to suffer no longer. Her emotions were going crazy; she didn't know what she was feeling or how to react to everything. She felt so young regardless of her actual age.

Marceline stood there and her life flashed before her eyes. It wasn't much but she still had a good mix of happy and sad memories. Although despite any good memories she may have had, her depression suppressed them and all she was left with was loss and despair.

Simon was gone. He left her and the memories were tearing her apart…

M: "Someone help me… because these memories convinced themselves to tear me apart…" She said yet another line of poetry as she took out her trusty survival knife out of her pocket.

The knife that she wielded in her hand had saved her life more times than she can count. It's done everything ranging from opening canned food to fending off other people trying to attack her and Simon…

She had a hard time actually accepting the end but after she said these other final words, she took her blade and slashed her own thigh. It was the method that she used to prevent suicide for an entire year…

M: "N-not this time…" She said as if she was replying to the pain as it beckoned for her to preserve her own life. And those pleads fell on deaf ears.

The blood slowly poured down Marceline's leg, staining her pants, and without any further distractions, she jumped.

Her mind was swirling with confusion and painful depression up until the moment that she jumped.

As she fell though the space between life and death she felt free and as if everything was alright for once. The wind blew through her hair and her tears came to a halt.

Thank Glob.

A few split seconds after jumping, her body slammed into the ground with a few sickening snapping sounds. She was being tossed by gravity like a rag doll and she hit everything on the way down. It was a short moment of the most agonizing physical pain that she's ever experienced in her entire life.

M: "AHHH!" She let out a blood-curdling shriek as she tumbled into the abyss of darkness.

This wasn't the death she expected. She kept falling and hitting rocks on the way down until she finally hit her head hard enough to be knocked unconscious.

Blackout.

At the end of Chapter 48 I just wanted to say thanks to all the people that review and read this story. You guys are awesome. :p
