Rock & Roll
Chapter 18 : Returning Home, but Hindered

"The program is ready... Run the scan now, Doctor?"

"Yes, Auto. Please do."

"Alright, then... Running full scan on DLN-004 and DLN-007."

With Dr. Light on his side to give instructions, Auto pressed the button on the control panel near him, running a scan program for a routine check up on Gustman and Fireman.

Like the rest of Light's family, Gustman and Fireman also got redesigned. Gustman becomes taller, and has a more elaborate and geometric design complimented with many construction-based visual motifs on his armor. He has blue eyes, and stamped on the upper left part of his chest was a writing of 'L' colored white.

Fireman's redesigned-body made him taller too. He has blue eyes, and his red armor are more detailed. A writing of 'L' colored white could be seen on the upper left part of his chest.

A few minutes later, the scanning program finally done doing its job.

"Scan complete, Doctor!" Auto said aloud, shifting his gaze to the kind doctor beside him. "No errors found on either Gutsman and Fireman's systems!"

"Thank you, Auto. Now, Gutsman, Fireman, it's done," Dr. Light said to his two creations, a big smile on his face. "You both can get off the reparation table now."

Gutsman put himself to a seated position. "Whoa... The scan sure took longer than usual, Doctor," the civil engineer Robot Master commented, getting off the reparation table he laid on. "What's with the 'full scan' all of the sudden, anyway?"

Fireman nodded in agreement. "Yeah, Dr. Light," the incineration Robot Master followed, also hopping down the reparation table. "You usually only do a quick scan on our routine check up. Why not today?"

"A-Ah... I-It's nothing, Gutsman, Fireman," Dr. Light said, showing his two creations a small smile. Before either Gustman or Fireman could ask more, the doctor already shifted his attention to Auto.

"Auto, thank you for your help," Dr. Light said to the big green bot. "Now, can you to take and copy the scan's result to my computer over there?"

"On it, Doctor!" Auto said with a nod, and stormed off to the other side to do what his creator just told him.

Just after Auto jogged from his spot, a voice was heard from behind the main lab's door.

"Dr. Light! We're baaaack!"

Bombman entered the main lab as soon as the voice was heard— which was his. Cutman followed soon after from behind.

"Oh, hello there, Bombman, Cutman" Dr. Light greeted the two. "I expect you to come home, Bombman. But Cutman... Aren't you suppose to work with the city's lumberjacks?"

"Well, yeah. But I want to have my routine check up first... u-uh... F-Father," Cutman explained as he quickly looks away, while everyone looked at him after hearing his last statement with widened eyes.

"A-After all," Cutman continued, "m-me and Bombman were accidentally went to Shademan's place, so I'm worried if I got minor damage that goes unnoticed somehow."

"I, uh... w-want to have my routine check up too, Dr. Light!" Bombman said, quite loudly, still glancing at Cutman in shock.

"W-Whoa, I hope nothing goes wrong with your systems, Cutman, Bombman," Dr. Light said, looking worried. "Now, I want you both to laid on the reparation table here. I'll scan you two once Auto finished with the job I gave him."

"Alright, Dr. Light!" Bombman said aloud, making his way to the reparation table and laid down on it, with Cutman following a second later.

Dr. Light's eyes fixed to Cutman. This made the timber-feeling Robot Master confused.

"Uh..." Cutman began to say, catching Dr. Light's attention even more to him. "... Something's wrong... F-Father?"

"A-Ah, no. It's nothing, really" Dr. Light replied, a light chuckle escaped his mouth. "It's just that... I'm surprised you called me 'Father', Cutman. I mean, you usually call me 'Dr. Light' or 'Doctor'."

"O-Oh. T-That...?" Cutman looks away from his creator, looking somewhat embarrassed. "W-Well... I-I should say that it's because of Rock and Roll. Them calling you 'Dad' makes me curious that I thought hard about it... Now I finally understand why— they saw you more than just being their creator. I, uh... W-Well... I-It's okay, right? F-For me to call you 'Father' from now on...?"

Dr. Light chuckled at the question. "Why of course, Cutman," the kind doctor told the timber-felling Robot Master, placing a reassuring hand on Cutman's head. "Somehow, knowing this makes me happy... Thank you, Cutman."

Cutman flinched, suddenly moving his eyes from his creator. "N-No. I-I should be the one thanking you," the timber-felling Robot Master stuttered, his gaze slowly shifted back to Dr. Light. "I-I'm... I'm flattered that you allowed me to call you 'Father'..."

Dr. Light smiled, thinking about how things change to his robots as time goes by.

Roll was the first came to his mind— the blonde robot girl whom he built as a household robot. She now followed Megaman's step to defeat Dr. Wily once he (unintentionally) installed a full combat systems into her.

Then there's Timeman. What changes from the time-manipulating Robot Master was him becoming less annoyed of Oilman's nature of being somewhat fussy. Timeman might not show it, but it is clear that he also become somewhat protective to oil-loving Robot Master, taking his role as Oilman's 'older brother' seriously.

Next was his second female Robot Master— Splashwoman. Just a few days back— before Dr. Wily announces his plan to rule the world with his 8 reconstructed Robot Master— the mermaid-like Robot Master told him that she actually have a soft spot for— surprisingly— one of Dr. Wily's robots back when she 'works' for Dr. Wily, and still holds the feeling ever since. He hasn't got a chance to ask her who it is, however.

And now, it's Cutman, wanting to call him 'Father'... And it really made the kind old doctor happy.

Dr. Light was snapped out of his thoughts when he heard Auto's loud voice.

"... Doctor? Doctor! Run the full scan on Cutman and Bombman now? Sorry if I'm sounds rude somehow, but I'm waiting for your instructions!"

Dr. Light blinked in surprise, before focusing his gaze at the big green bot. "A-Ah, I'm sorry, Auto," the kind old doctor apologized. "I completely zoned out just a moment before. Anyway, yes, Auto. Please do."

"Alright, then, Doctor..." Auto shifted his gaze from Dr. Light to the control panel. "Running full scan on DLN-003 and DLN-006."

Just as Auto pressed the button on the control panel and let the scan program did its job, someone entered the lab.

This someone was a boy with dark green eyes and short yellow hair, which had one small lock that lifted up at each sides of his head. He wears a bright red shirt with long sleeve that trimmed with black fur at the sleeves' ends, deep red vest that trimmed with yellow color at the bottom and black fur at the top and had three yellow buttons— though only one at the top is buttoned, deep red shorts with yellow lines that stops just above his knees, and black boots with vertical white lines and white cuffs that stops just below his knees.

"Dr. Thomas Light, I have returned," the blonde boy said, closing the door behind him. "Now I have found some clues at where Dr. Wily's base could be, but this still need further research. I'll work on it as soon as I recharge my energy."

Dr. Light let out a startled gasp once he realized who the blonde boy was, while Cutman lifted his head, eyes widened.

"W-Wait a sec..." the timber-felling Robot Master uttered, eyes fixed to the blonde boy. "Y-You're... Blastman?"

The blonde boy nodded. "Indeed I am," he said, while Cutman looked at him in shock. "'Doctor' said he made a civilian form for me just in case I need a break from wearing my armor. For your information, I go by the name 'Blast' in this form. Sorry that I haven't informed about this earlier— all of you must be surprised."

Cutman let out a relieved sigh. "Gosh... You should have told us sooner, Blast! It shocked me when you came from the door and—!"

"Cutman! Stay still for a moment!" Auto exclaimed with a huff, crossing his arms. "You'll ruin the scan's result if you keep moving around!"

"Geez! Sorry, sorry!" the timber-felliing Robot Master said while rolling his eyes, and laid his head back down, while Auto narrowed his eyes to Cutman when he saw it.

"... Hmm?" Blast looked around, a confused look plastered on his face. "I thought Megaman and Roll would be here... Where are they, really?"

"What do you mean by 'where'?" Cutman asked, but keep his head on the reparation table he laid on because of Auto glaring at him. "Me and Bombman went back home with Megaman. And Elecman said on the call that Roll was on her way back too. They should be here by now."

"I see... But really, Cutman," Blast put one arm to his hip, head cocked to the side. "I was hoping to find them here at the main lab, but turns out they're not here... I couldn't contact them, either."

Upon hearing this, Cutman and Bombman quickly sat up, which angered Auto. "Hey! No moving around at your routine che—!"

"Hold that outburst for a sec, Auto!" Bombman exclaimed, moving his gaze from the big green bot to the blonde robot boy. "Hey, Blast... A-Are you serious?"

"P-Please tell me this is a joke," Cutman followed, looking uneasy. The others at the room also become worried at this.

Blast kept silent, looking at the others with his dark green eyes. But a moment later, he gave out a loud sigh, and shook his head.

"I'm sorry, but I'm serious," the blonde robot boy said, moving his arm from his hip. "I've tried to contact them a few minutes before I came here, but I couldn't reach them... Could it be that there's something that blocked their signals?"

The others could only gasp in shock at the surprising news.

- Meanwhile... -

Somewhere far at the east side of the city, a lush forest could be seen. Above those was the bright blue sky, decorated with white clouds in uneven shapes. Birds were flying around, chirping happily...

At least they were, until the birds stopped on their track when two figures— a blue-armored male and a blonde female— suddenly came out of nowhere and began falling down.

While the blue-armored male gasped in surprise at the situation, the blonde female screamed.

"H-HWAAAAAAAA!" the blonde female cried out, one hand holding down her dress. "W-What theHOW am I ended up at the SKY?! I've SET the destination right, for crying out loud!"

The blue-armored male blinked in surprise, newly noticing the blonde female. "R-... Roll?!"

"M-Megaman?!" the blonde female exclaimed, also finding out that she's not alone. "H-How are we both ended up here in the SKY?!"

"I-I don't know!" the Blue Bomber said aloud, taking a quick glance below and found that they'll reach the ground shortly. "Oh, no... Roll! Hold on tight!"

"W-What do you—!" Roll began to say, but stopped when Megaman suddenly grabbed her with his left hand, holding her tight with his left hand around her waist.

"Activating weapon data entry number six!" the Blue Bomber cried out frantically, his armor started to glow and change in color— his body suit transformed in color from light blue to deep blue, while his cobalt armor changed in color to deep purple.

"Come on, come on... Quick!" Megaman switched his right hand to a Buster, pointing it down. "NOISE CRUSH!"

Just a little more the two robots would hit the ground, multiple ring-shaped lilac waves were released from Megaman's Buster, making a huge wake at the ground as a loud, explosion-like sound boomed around the area.

The release of the 'waves' also slowed the two bots' fall, though it still pained Megaman that he fell inside the huge wake with a loud thud on his back, while Roll was safe from any pain as he had held her with both arms right after he launched 'Noise Crush'.

"Ugh!" Megaman winced, both his eyes closed shut as he slowly release his hold on Roll. His armor has changed back to its normal color.

"Megaman!" Roll quickly sat up beside her blue-armored brother, looking worried. "Y-You okay...?"

"Y-Yeah. I'm fine, Roll..." the Blue Bomber said, trying to pull himself off the ground, only to fall back again.

Roll scowled at the sight. "You're NOT fine! Seriously, why you need to lie at the time like this?!"

"N-No, Roll. I'm fine... L-Look, just give me some time, okay?" Megaman put his hands on the ground, and slowly, the Blue Bomber manage to put himself to a sitting position.

Roll huffed. "You could at least ask me to help you up, Megaman."

"No need to push yourself until the limit, Roll. I know you're tired with your fight with Flameman," Megaman said, bringing his right arm to the right side of his helmet, while Roll pouted on his comment.

I still have a half of energy left! the blonde girl thought, huffing aloud. Besides, Megaman, my energy scanner said that your energy is way lower than mine!

"... Weird. I couldn't contact Dad... There's no signal here," Megaman sighs, bringing his arm down from his helmet. "Still... How do we both ended up here if we already set the destination right?"

Roll didn't say anything. Instead, she looked up, a group of numbers consisting '0' and '1' flashing through her blue eyes.

Megaman was confused at the sight. "Uh... Roll? What are you doing?"

"Scanning the area we're at," the blonde robot girl replied, numbers continued to went through her blue eyes before she closed her eyes.

"... Wow. This is... surprising," Roll uttered, opening her eyes, numbers were no longer seen on it. "My area scanner's result said that there's a radioactive waves that caused signal blackout 20 meters from our current spot."

Megaman's green eyes grew wide in instant. "R-R-Radioactive?! I-Inside a forest?! H-HOW COME?!"

"C-Calm down, Megaman! The radioactive waves doesn't reach the city!" Roll exclaimed, hoping what she just said would calm her frantic older brother.

"B-But Roll! It's RADIOACTIVE WAVES we're talking about!" Megaman said, still panic. "I-It could expand itself without warning!"

Roll groaned. "Megaman! Could you please just—!"

"W-What if it slowly reaches the city as we speak?!"

"Megaman, hear me ou—!"

"O-Or maybe it reached the city ALREADY?! Roll, I can't—!"

"SAY ANOTHER WORD ABOUT RADIOACTIVE AND I'LL HIT YOU WITH MY BROOM, MEGAMAN!"

Megaman yelped at the mention of Roll's broom. Not many knew, but when one make Roll angry and she grabbed her broom, she was not to be messed with.

"I-I'm sorry, Roll," the Blue Bomber apologized, sighing. "I-I'm really, REALLY afraid with the possibility of the radioactive waves reaches the city... T-That's all."

Roll stared at her blue-armored older brother for a moment before she sighs. "... You always willing to think of others before yourself, aren't you?"

"Huh? Am I?" Megaman uttered, a confused look on his face.

Roll groaned upon hearing this. "I can't believe it. You really got 'chronic hero syndrome' after all. And you don't even realize it!"

Megaman got even more confused. "Huh? 'Chronic' what...?"

"NEVER MIND!" Roll yelled in annoyance, before standing up and stormed off to get out of the ground's huge wake.

Megaman was still clueless of what his younger sister really meant by this... 'chronic' thing she said, and why she suddenly gets annoyed. With a loud sigh, the Blue Bomber followed what Roll did after deciding to put the thought aside.

Once the two sibling bots manage to get out from the ground's huge wake, the were shocked and confused at the sight before them— destroyed stones in various sizes could be seen, strewn on the wide grassy ground. However, if one look closely, some strands of the grass looks like it had been burned— not to mention a few still got a small trail of smokes from it.

"W-... What happened here?" Megaman muttered, bright green eyes looking around in wonder. "This looks like what's left on a fierce battle..."

"But who? Surely, it's not humans' doing unless they had laser guns... Or tanks, for that matter," Roll pointed out, crossing her arms, bright blue eyes traveled through the 'messy' scenery around her and Megaman.

Suddenly, a loud voice of a male was heard, sounding annoyed, which broke the silence around the area.

"AAARGH! WHY CAN'T YOU JUST DESTROYED TO BITS?!"

Megaman and Roll whirled, curious of the voice's owner. When they did, they found a male teenager stood not far from them, an irritated look plastered on his face. Placed before the male teenager was what used to be a large stone destroyed until it only a half left.

The male teenager has spiky, short black hair and sky blue eyes. He wears a long dark blue cloak with uneven ends and red strings atop a long-sleeved white shirt with black trims, black pants, and light blue shoes. Around his waist was a silver sash that holds a black scabbard with golden ornaments, which must be the thing where he housed the sword he had in his right grasp now.

"Hmm... There must be something I missed..." the male teenager titled his head to the side as he slung his sword atop his right shoulder. "Destroying stones sure not enough..."

Megaman and Roll's eyes widened upon hearing this. The one who had... 'messed' the area around was this male teenager?

"Uh... Roll?" Megaman began to say, sounding unsure. "M-My scanner says that he's a human, but..."

"I-I know, Megaman. It's, uh..." Roll looked at the grumbling male teenager not far from them, "... u-unbelievable to know he could break big stones. I mean, seriously, he's still on his teens!"

"Still, if he's a teenager, how come he carries a sword around like that?" the Blue Bomber pointed out, head cocked to the side. "He might scare people off with that sword... And brought police's attention, for that matter."

Suddenly, the male teenager gasped aloud, and turned around to face both Megaman and Roll.

"Aha! I knew it!" the male teenager exclaimed, a grin on his face. "How long have you two been standing there? Surely, you both weren't humans, right?"

Megaman gasped. "H-... How did you—"

"No humans were strong enough to get near me when I'm in my 'fighting mode'!" the black-haired teenager said, pointing his sword forward. "At modern era like this, then I take it you both were robots! Am I right...?"

Roll's right eye twitched. "... Who are you, really? You're getting on my nerve systems, you know?" the blonde girl uttered, annoyance was clear in her voice. "Put that sword down! That thing isn't a toy!"

"Whoa, not expecting you to get annoyed!" the male teenager smirks. "But sorry, girl! Me and 'Deathcreeper' are inseparable partners!"

Megaman becomes agape at the last statement. "... 'Deathcreeper' is the name of your sword?"

The black-haired teenager arched an eyebrow up. "Yeah. What's up?"

"N-No, it's just that... Why would you name your sword with a scary name like that...?"

"H-Hey! It's my sword! I can name it whatever I want!" the male teenager huffed, placing his sword over his right shoulder. "Still... You both looked like a worthy opponent, eh?"

"Huh...?" Megaman muttered, obviously confused. Roll, on the other hand, knew what the teenager up to.

"But I only need one to complete today's training!" the male teenager pointed his sword forward, a smirk on his face. "What did you say, girl? Surely, you're not just an ordinary robot even though you wear a dress— those burn marks on your clothes proves it!"

Roll groaned, glancing at the burn marks on her dress courtesy of Flameman before she diverts her gaze back at the black-haired male teenager. "... You're challenging me to a battle, aren't you?" the blonde robot girl said, almost indignantly.

"Whoa! I expect you to say things about treating a lady, but turns out I'm wrong! Guess you're really, REALLY annoyed with me after all!" the black-haired male teenager smirks, holding his sword with both hands. "But that's a good thing! I bet it'll be awesome battling you!"

Roll humphed. "Challenge accepted!" she said aloud with her blue eyes glaring at him. She was about to change her left arm to a red Buster when Megaman spoke.

"W-Wait, Roll!" the Blue Bomber cried out, almost frantically. "T-There's no way I'll let you go! Let me fight him!"

"No, Megaman," the blonde robot girl uttered, sounding serious. "This guy's attitude really, REALLY annoys me! I'll show him what I'm capable of!"

"B-But Roll! You just—!"

"Fought Flameman and tired because of it? ... Geez, Megaman," Roll turned her head towards her blue-armored older brother, looking annoyed. "You should take a look on yourself before me. I mean, COME ON! How come you said all that when your energy is way lower than mine?!"

Megaman seems uneasy at this, but continue in stopping his younger sister to go. "R-Roll! Please step aside and let me handle this! I-I don't think he's just an ordinary—!"

"Look, just let ME finish him!" Roll turned her head away from Megaman, switching her left arm to a Buster. "And that's an order, Megaman! Or do you want ME to get my broom?!"

Megaman flinched at the last statement. He looked back at his younger sister, his bright green eyes fixed to Roll's blue ones.

The Blue Bomber kept silent for a moment before he sighs. "... Fine, you could go," Megaman uttered, frowning a bit. "But... expect me to interfere anytime."

"And I'll make sure it won't happen," Roll retorted, a small smile on her face.

The male teenager smirked. "Hah! Now that's what I called as a challenge!" he said almost excitedly, pointing his sword to Roll. "It's about time I got someone to battle with! Try and make this enjoyable, girl!"
