Chapter 24: Jealousy

High school (Ryoma and Sakuno)

Sakuno giggled as she opened her shoe locker, "No way!"

"I'm totally serious!" Tomoka said.

Sakuno took out her indoor shoes to see something fall out. Sakuno crouched down to pick it up. "What's that?" Tomoka asked.

Sakuno looked at it. It was a plain white envelope. "I don't know." Sakuno said.

"Open it!" Tomoka said nudging her.

"Hai, hai." Sakuno said as she opened it.

Sakuno opened the flap and took out the letter. "What does it say?" Tomoka asked as she peered over Sakuno's shoulder.

Sakuno pulled the paper away. "It's a love letter." Sakuno said.
"Kyaa! That's even more of a reason to show me." Tomoka squealed.

Sakuno put the letter in her backpack, "I doubt whoever wrote this wanted someone else to read the letter they wrote." Sakuno pointed out.

Tomoka pouted. "Why are you always right?" Tomoka asked.

Sakuno chuckled, "I'm not always right."
"This is why so many guys are writing you letters and asking you." Tomoka said.

Sakuno blushed. "But I still don't understand why the keep asking me out when I'm dating Ryoma-Kun?"
"You called?"

Sakuno and Tomoka turned to see Ryoma behind them. "Ah, Ryoma-Sama, Sakuno got a-"
"AHHH!" Sakuno screamed waving her arms frantically up and down.

She pulled Tomoka to the side. "What's wrong?" Tomoka asked confused.

Sakuno put her finger to her lips, "Ryoma-Kun doesn't like when guys hit on me. He may deny it but he actually gets jealous and then angry."
Tomoka smiled. "Hai, hai, I won't say anything then Sakuno-Chan."
Sakuno smiled. "Arigato Tomo-Chan."
They both went back to Ryoma. "What were you two talking about?"
"Nothing in particular," Tomoka said.

She gasped. "I better head to class. I'll see you two later."

"Bye, bye." Sakuno said.

"What was that about?" Ryoma asked a bit confused.

Sakuno blushed. "Nothing! We should head to class now shouldn't we?" Sakuno asked.

Ryoma nodded his head. "Let's go then?"
Sakuno smiled. "Hai."
The bell for first period rang and everyone sat in their seat. Unfortunately Ryoma and Sakuno sat across the room from each other. But luckily for Ryoma he sat in the back while Sakuno sat in the front. So during the class period he could always see his girlfriend. This time though, Ryoma noticed her take out a letter and started reading it. "Is something wrong?" Horio asked.

"No not really, I'm just wondering what Ryuzaki is reading."

"It looks like a love letter." Kato said squinting.

"I heard Tomoka talking about how Sakuno-Chan has been getting a lot of love letters lately," Mizuno chimed in.

Ryoma's brow went up, "This is the first I've heard of this."
Horio, Kato, and Mizuno looked at Ryoma in disbelief. Sure he was dense but he couldn't believe that he was this dense. Girls were always flocking over him but how could he not notice all the stares and looks Sakuno got. Sakuno had bloomed into a find beautiful young woman. "You're kidding right?" Horio asked.

"What?" Ryoma asked, his brows knitting together.

"Well…Sakuno-Chan is actually really popular…and she gets a lot of love letters and confessions." Mizuno said turning a little pink.

"And the looks she gets are kind of scary sometimes too." Kato said.

"I'm pretty sure if you were dating her, there would be even more guys after her." Horio admitted.

"Shut it." Ryoma said pulling his cap lower.

Lunch

Tomoka went up to Sakuno with her lunch in hand. "Let's eat together, Sakuno-Chan."
"Sorry Tomo-Chan, I can't, I need to go and do something. Maybe I'll have time to eat with you afterwards."
Tomoka nodded her head. "Is it about that letter that you got?" Tomoka asked.

Sakuno blushed. "Yeah."
Tomoka patted her best friends back, "Good luck."
Sakuno smiled. "Thank you."

Sakuno headed out of the classroom. During this time, Ryoma was coming inside. "Where's Ryuzaki?" Ryoma asked Tomoka.

"She just left to deal with a love letter." Tomoka said and stopped her mistake, "Crap."
"What did you say?" Ryoma asked.

"Crap." Tomoka said as she started to panic.

"Before that." Ryoma said.

Tomoka sighed, "She just left to deal with a love letter."
"What do you mean?" Ryoma asked.

Tomoka looked at him in disbelief, "You've probably done this enough but Sakuno got a love letter and I'm pretty sure inside they were asking for her to meet with them during lunch so that they can get a proper answer." Tomoka said, "But knowing Sakuno, she probably said no."

"Probably?" Ryoma said.

"She will say no!" Tomoka restated.

Ryoma put his hand in his pockets. "Whatever, I'm leaving."
Tomoka frowned. "I hope I didn't get Sakuno-Chan into trouble."

Ryoma closed the classroom door and went on pursuit of Sakuno. Ryoma's phone started ringing. "What?" Ryoma asked.

"You're looking for Sakuno-Chan right?" Horio asked.

"Yeah."
"She's on the roof of the high school building."

"Thanks." Ryoma said and hung up and headed to the roof.

"What do you mean?" He heard from the other side of the door.

"I'm sorry Natsume-Kun…I can't be with you," Sakuno said, "I appreciate you giving me the letter and everything but, I'm already in a relationship."
"With that stupid tennis junky right?" The guy named Natsume spat.

Ryoma balled his hands into fists. "Take that back Natsume-Kun!" Sakuno screamed, "Ryoma-Kun is a good boy!"

"He's probably cheating on you with some whore for all you know!"

"Stop! Stop it Natsume-Kun! Ryoma-Kun would never do something like that to me!"
Ryoma slammed the door open. Sakuno was now crying and Natsume was about to retort something back when he turned to see Ryoma. He stepped away from Sakuno. "Echizen." Natusme said.

Ryoma took his hands out his pockets. "You made Ryuzaki cry?" Ryoma stated.

"R-r-ryoma-Kun?" Sakuno stuttered as she wiped her tears.

Ryoma stepped in front of her so she wouldn't see that swine in front of them. "Did you make Ryuzaki cry?" Ryoma asked.

Natsume snorted. "And what if I did?"
Ryoma walked up to him and punched him straight in the face. "If I ever see you again, messing with Ryuzaki I'll make sure you regret it. Do you understand?" Ryoma said, "And don't you think for a minute I won't."

"Ryoma-Kun, stop…please." Sakuno pleaded grabbing his arm, "That's enough."
Ryoma cursed and grabbed Sakuno's hand. "Let's go."
"Hai." Sakuno said and followed Ryoma.

Behind the P.E. Shed

"R-R-R-R-Ryoma-Kun?" Sakuno stuttered confused.

Ryoma had Sakuno blocked between his arms. "Did he do anything to you?" Ryoma asked.

"No, we were just talking." Sakuno said.

Ryoma kissed Sakuno. "R-R-R-R-Ryoma-Kun?" Sakuno said startled.

"Can't I kiss you?" Ryoma asked.

Sakuno blushed, "You can…but…but…"
"But what?"
Sakuno's face turned bright red and she tried to cover them. Ryoma pulled her hands away to see her blushing face. He smiled and kissed her cheeks. "You look so cute when you blush." Ryoma whispered.

Sakuno's face heated up even more. "Mou! Stop it Ryoma-Kun." Sakuno said as she tried to look away.

Ryoma grabbed her chin to make her turn towards him to meet his gaze. "I'm serious." Ryoma said.

Sakuno blushed. "I know."
"And I hate when guys ask you out or write you letters."
Sakuno blushed. "I hate it when girls write you letters too!"

Ryoma blinked his eyes and smiled. "Sorry." Ryoma said.

Sakuno blinked her eyes and smiled. "Thank you."

"For what?" Ryoma asked.

Sakuno smiled. "For being here for me."

Ryoma smiled. "I should be saying that."

Back to the Present

Ryoma had gone to the bathroom at the mall leaving Sakuno by herself for their date without the children. "Hey are you by yourself?" Some guy asked.

"No, I'm here with my husband." Sakuno said.

"Oh where'd he go?" The guy asked.

"I'm right here." Ryoma called.

Sakuno smiled and got up from her seat. "I hope you have a nice day." Sakuno said as she walked off with Ryoma.
"Who was that guy?" Ryoma asked.

Sakuno shrugged. "I don't know."
Ryoma frowned. Sakuno giggled and kissed her husband's cheek. "Jealous?"
Ryoma pouted. "A little."
Sakuno squeezed his hand. "You haven't changed."

"Neither have you."
Sakuno giggled. "I guess not."
