A/N: Me again! Sorry it's been so long since I last updated this story! I happened to read it over again after a particular review, and bam. I was able to come up with another chapter! In fact, the next chapter is already written up as well! I'll be posting it soon as well. Enjoy!
This man was intoxicating!
Carter could finally admit that it was a bad thing. A very, very bad thing.
Horus had been so good to him during their only three dates. And maybe he was a bit too quick in deciding to never see Horus ever again. It seems that Carter couldn't function without the man around according to his sister.
Okay, he could function without Horus, but thoughts of Horus drifting in and out every waking hour of the day was exhausting. And definitely distracting.
That piece of Carter that was originally buried has finally seen the light of day. It pointed out that Horus did make his heart beat like crazy, and Horus also caused a few skipping beats with that stupid hand-holding Horus forced on him. Horus made him feel safe and protected.
Wanted.
Gods, how did three dates with an arrogant, conceited asshole, make Carter realize that he wanted Horus because the man made him feel wanted.
"I can't believe this," moaned Carter, putting his head on his crossed arms. He was with his sister at a café, enjoying lunch together.
Sadie calmly sipped at her coffee. "I don't really see the problem here. You wanted to marry for love, and look. You're in love with your fiancé."
"This isn't how I wanted to fall in love," he whispered. Maybe he's a bit naïve to think that he could have that storybook romance. Meet the guy, a nice guy, and fall in love with romance, candles, and moments.
Instead he was forced into an arranged marriage, which led to a forced upon him date. Dates with a man whose middle name is "bringer of all things evil" and...
Shit.
Horus romanced him and had moments.
Somehow, Horus was able to pull it off and now here Carter was, unsure of what to do.
"It's quite simple Carter," answered Sadie, easily understanding her brother's hang-ups. "Call him up, ask him to meet you, kiss him and admit your feelings, get married and have a few kids who will all love their Auntie Sadie. Simple."
Carter lifted his head and gave her his 'I'm not impressed' face. "Sadie, how is any of that simple? He doesn't even know I can, let alone how I feel."
"It's not my fault that you're making it hard on yourself." Putting her coffee down, she leaned back in her seat and looked him over. Outwardly, Carter still looked the same. However she could spot then tension in his eyes.
"Sadie, I'm being serious. I don't know what to do."
Sadie sighed, leaning forward and putting a calm hand over Carter's still crossed arms on the table. "I think you shou-"
"Carter?"
The two Kane siblings looked up from their conversation to see one of Carter's ex-boyfriends walking towards them from the café entrance. The man must've seen them when he was passing by since they sat by the window. A decision they now regret.
"Walt," greeted Carter politely but with no warmth, placing a hand over his sister's this time, to stop any lashing out she may take part in. Unfortunately, that only stopped her physical attacks.
"Fuck off, Stone. Can't you see we're talking," she hissed, glaring poison at the man.
Walt laughed off Sadie's obvious anger as he reached their table. Walt was a tall man, could almost rival Horus in height.
"Good to see you haven't changed any, Sadie," nodded Walt, putting a hand on the back of Carter's chair.
"Ew, don't compliment me. In fact, turn around and leave. And maybe fall off a cliff…or five."
Carter snorted. God bless his sister, she was a blessing when he needed her the most. And now, he could do without Walt anywhere near him.
Walt shook his head. "Unfortunately, I can't just leave." Walt turned to Carter again, reaching out to cup Carter's cheek. "Could I speak with you, in private?"
Smacking Walt's hand away, Carter finally glared up at the man. "No. Seriously Walt, you need to leave. The last time we saw each other, I told you I didn't want anything to do with you after what you did. Ever."
Walt sighed, eyes narrowing in slight annoyance. "It was a mistake Carter, why can't you move on?"
Carter slammed his hands on the coffee table, standing up so quickly his chair fell over. The noise in the café stopped as everyone's eyes fell on the trio, not that Carter noticed. "I will never move on, you douche!" shouted Carter, eyes dripping in rage. "You cheated on me, with my sister's best friend! I will never forgive you and if you think you can just swagger in here and hope to speak with me, you best be out your damn mind, Stone."
Carter couldn't help but feel a bit smug inside as Walt stepped back at the explosive response. He may not be known for his temper, that was all Sadie, but Carter had his own temper that could turn everything ugly in seconds.
"Car-"
"No, Walt," hissed Carter stepping forward, cutting the other off again. "This is the last time I'm telling you this, we're through. Now leave. I never want to see you again." Carter turned back around to join Sadie at their table when he felt a hand wrap around his wrist, stopping him. "What the-"
Walt yanked him back. "Don't just walk away from me, Kane! You owe me!"
Carter hissed. "I owe you nothing! Let me go-ah!"
Sadie, already on her feet, stepped forward when her brother cried out in pain. "Jesus Christ Walt, are you out of your mind?!" She tried prying the man's grip off.
Walt shoved her off. "Don't touch me, bitch." Walt pulled Carter in close, his grip tightening. "And you and I are going to talk."
"No!" Carter tried pulling Walt's hand off, but despite his attempts nothing worked.
"Yes, you owe me Carter. I did not wait around for months, just so you can end this!" Walt began dragging Carter to the back, when Sadie stood before him, shoving Walt back.
"Well maybe you shouldn't have slept with that whore," taunted Sadie. "Now let my brother go!"
Carter whimpered, "L-Let me go! Please."
A deep voice, laced with barely concealed rage spoke from behind them. "You heard them, let go."
Walt tsked, turning around and glared. "Fuck off man, this has nothing to do with you." the rest of the café's dinners knew who he was. Walt 'Diamond' Stone, small time jewelry business owner on fifth street and foot solider for the gang that ran the city. He wasn't someone you wanted to cross.
Walt's grasp tightened around Carter's wrist, bruising the soft skin. Walt didn't feel any guilt as his other hand took Carter's chin and forced the smaller man to look up. He waited until Carter looked at him. When those pretty hazel eyes shone with fear and pain, did Walt feel as if he was finally able to have the upper hand. It was about to time he was given his due. All those months he waited until Carter would have sex with him. Carter would only let it go as a heavy make out session, before mumbling out that he wasn't ready to take that step. Could anyone blame Walt for deciding to fuck Sadie's best friend when she offered?
A hand large hand grasping Walt around his neck, forced Walt to release his hold on Carter. "You must have hearing problems," growled the same man from before. Walt tried yanking the hand away from his neck, but was shoved in the wall for his efforts.
Walt looked up at his attacker; dual-colored eyes flashed in anger, as the man's hand slowly, began to crush Walt's windpipe. Over his attacker's shoulder, Walt could make out Sadie helping Carter to his feet as the two stared at them in…surprise?
Did they know the man attacking him?
Wheezing, Walt forced all his attention on the mystery man. The man was a few inches taller than him, and surprisingly stronger as well. For the life of him, Walt couldn't push the man off. When the man leaned forward he spoke only loud enough for Walt to hear.
"You must be pretty stupid if you think you can put your hands on my fiancé like that and think you could walk away without any repercussions. News flash dumbass, you won't. I'm going to explain this to you once, so pay attention." There was a distinct growl laced with the words. "If I ever see you around Carter again, I'll kill you. If I find out you somehow caused Carter to cry over your sorry ass, I'll kill you. If you so much as think about touching my fiancé like that ever again, I will fucking kill you. Your benefactor won't be able to help your sorry ass. Do I make myself clear?"
The pressure around his throat eased enough for Walt to respond. "Y-Yes."
"Good. Now get the fuck outta here." The man stepped back, Walt collapsing to the ground as he regained his breath. A second later, Walt slipped out of the café with his head ducked down.
Horus turned to the Kane siblings joining them as the other café patrons went back to their lunch, clearly talking about what just happened. Party-boy Horus Godson upping a known gang member of the Red Desert Pharaohs.
Horus didn't care for any of that. He gently lifted Carter's face, and checked for any bruising. "You okay?"
Carter nodded numbly, his other hand gently rubbing his bruised wrist.
Horus frowned at the sight. The older man gently gathered Carter into his arms so he could inspect the bruised wrist up close. "I can't believe he grabbed you like that. I should've done more than just threaten him."
"No one ever said Walt was smart," mumbled Sadie, taking her seat again. She looked back up at Horus, eyebrow raised. "What are you doing here anyways?"
Horus sat down, pulling a surprisingly unresisting Carter on his lap. Deciding to blame it on shock, Horus ignored it for now. "I was passing by after a lunch meeting with a cousin of mine when I saw what was happening in here."
Sadie snorted. "You were spying on us, weren't you?"
"I'm pretty sure I just said 'after a lunch meeting', Baby Kane."
"And I'm pretty sure that's code for 'spying'. But don't let me tell you any different." Sadie stood up, picking up her purse. "I gotta run. Can you make sure he gets home? And those bruises looked at."
Horus nods, "Of course."
"Thanks." Sadie dropped a quick kiss on Carter's cheek and after a moments hesitation did the same to Horus, before leaving the café.
Horus' eyes fell to look at the still quiet Carter, frowning again. The younger man has yet to say anything to him. Instead, Carter has laced their fingers together and was quite content to sit on his lap and stare at their hands.
"Horus?"
"Yea?"
A pause.
"Can we go on another date?"
Horus smiled. "Of course we can."
Carter nodded against his shoulder, falling silent again. They sat there until the waiter comes with the check. Horus took it before Carter could, gently covering Carter's mouth with their interlaced hands.
"Did you already forget?"
Carter gave a quizzical look.
"I'm buying."
