Teana opened the door to her chamber, maybe a little rest wouldn't be too bad... On her bed, however, she found a surprised guest. Her husband was there sleeping... at this time during the day. The newly crowned queen giggled to herself. It seemed both husband and wife had the same idea; not that they could be blamed. Things were quite stressful. It was a new experience for both of them, making all these decisions for Egypt.
Teana smiled to herself and took off some of her extra garments and slipped into bed with Atem as she snuggled up close to him. Everyone would be looking for them, but at this moment as sleep began to work its way over Teana, she didn't give it a bother.
Knock! Knock!
"Uggh!" Teana groaned. "What is that noise?!"
Atem fluttered his eyes open, surprised to see Teana in his embrace. He paid it no more attention as he looked towards the door where he heard knocking. He quickly, but gently got out of bed, re-covering Teana with the sheet. "Stay in bed." He told her quickly, as he put on a robe of sorts on. He opened the door.
"Hondo?"
"Atem! Thank Ra! We've been looking for you. We didn't expect you to be here."
"In my chambers?" He questioned jokingly, as he yawned.
"No...I mean yes." Hondo grinned. "But usually you are in the throne room at this hour or out and about."
"So," Atem yawned once more. "What is this about?"
"The council wants you." He said.
"The council?" Atem did not mask his surprise.
"I am afraid so. I am not sure what they want. I am sure it is nothing."
"Of course not." Atem grumbled. "I shall be there right away." Hondo bowed and let Atem return to his room to look presentable.
Atem groaned as her fixed his clothing and put on his upper garment. "Atem?" Atem turned to see Teana slightly raised up on the bed, rubbing her eyes. "What is going on?"
Atem walked over to her as he fastened his earring. "Nothing love, the council just wishes to see me." He gently assisted Teana down back to lying position and kissed her on the forehead. "You go back to bed." Teana smiled and nodded.
It was sometime later that Teana managed to get up and re-dress. She put effort into making herself presentable once more. She was curious as to what the council would want at this hour. She wondered when Atem would be getting back.
When the door creaked open, Atem revealed to be back at that very moment.
"Atem!" Atem walked in and gave a weak smile and proceeded to run a hand through his hair in frustration. "What did the council want?" Teana asked furrowing her eyebrows.
"Just matters on trade and crops." He sighed. "It is all done now. Thank Ra!" He shook his head, threading his fingers through his hair. "There just are not enough hours in the day."
Teana closed her eyes and smiled, agreeing silently. "Why do we not go take a visit to your father? I would like to see how he is doing. The healers gave me word that he was doing a bit better."
"Indeed?" Atem asked widening his eyes and then smiling. "I am glad to hear that. Let us go now." He urged, grabbing Teana's hand and speedily walking towards his father's chambers.
As the guards gave them passage to the door of his father's chambers, they were met face to face with a wide-eyed servant as he almost collided with them. His face turned into an image of fear and nervousness. He bowed his head and hesitated. "His majesty...he has ascended into the afterlife." He breathed, not bothering to lift his head back up.
Atem froze and then abruptly pushed the servant out of the way running into the room to his father's bed. His father was laid there...and there was no sign of him breathing. It was then that Atem dropped to his knees before his father's death bed and cried for the first time in his adulthood.
Teana broke into a sob as she glanced at her husband's father. She had checked for a pulse and there was none. She covered her hand over her face, but cracked it open to see her Atem weeping at the grave news. His own hand rested on his forehead, but it covered his tear-dripped eyes.
Teana walked over then and kneeled down as she placed her hand on his shoulder. She lightly hugged him, but was completely taken by surprise when Atem enveloped his arms around her and embraced her strongly, crying. Teana returned the gesture and hugged him tighter as tears continued to drop from her eyes as well. Atem was hugging her bit too tightly, but she did not pay much attention to it. Aknamkanon was gone. He was really gone and she would do everything in her power to make sure that she was there for her husband.
Thank you for everyone who voted! More people voted for Atem to become sole ruler of Egypt by the passing of his father. Unexpectedly, Atem's father passes away right when he was starting to feel better. As you can also see, Atem and Teana's relationship has improved incredibly and their issues are all in the past now. This chapter was short :( but I updated quicker this time. Next chapter, it will hopefully be longer as something happens to Teana (may be good or bad)!
**I've also posted my new Spiritshipping story. (Un)Requited Love. It has Vanishshipping/Revolutionshipping in it, so please check it out and review! I'm trying to improve my writing with that fanfiction, so if you have any suggestion/critiques on it, I'd be very much obliged.
