Caught out

A/N:- Thanks for the reviews and onto the next chapter. Enjoy.

Shitsuo paused ducking into the alcove. His eyes narrowed seeing the angels pass by in a hurry. Something was wrong. "Did you hear? It looks like they finally found something." Taking a deep breath the archangel slipped from his hiding place trying not to act suspicious. He was after all an arch angel and he did belong there. "Shh."

So it was something that they didn't want him to know. "Heiwajima-sama." The two gossiping angels bowed to him politely as he walked past. "Do you think he knows?"

"Like it matters. He can't do anything. Not after the announcement." Announcement? What announcement and when? Did they know what he was classified as? Had they found out about his mother and brother? The looks he was getting gave him a bad feeling which he covered with his emotionless mask. Turning the corner his stride sped up. Since Shizuo's secret had come to light everything had been going wrong.

The colour of his halo, the weird dream he had...not to mention the demon his brother had brought back home. Slipping into the usual room Shitsuo dived through the portal. As usual it was dangerous since the other side couldn't be seen until it was too late. If the arch angels were having secret meetings then he could be walking into trouble.

The only one in the meeting room was the fox demon sitting on a chair looking perfectly calm. Shitsuo breathed a sigh of relief silently berating himself for caring about a demon. They were the enemy. Do you want to control or be controlled? That voice. It was the one from the dream. Clutching at his head the blond groaned. He could feel an anger that didn't belong to him... Shizuo? Not just that he could feel a range of emotions.

"Something happened?" His master enquired remaining seated.

"I think I need your help." Shitsuo muttered trudging forward to collapse in one of the chairs. "I had a dream..." Without being commanded the angel told Sakuraya about his dream, showed him his halo the most precious thing to him and even told him about the demon hiding out at their home. Throughout his story the demon didn't interrupt once.

"Its happening then." The fox demon sighed. "The demon looked like a wolf...That would be Roppi. He pretty much hates everything. Angels, demons and humans. It looks like your brother is the sole exception. Saika is a concern. Has there been any other changes?"

Shitsuo nodded resting his head on the table. "I can feel them in my head. Her and my brothers. I didn't know emotions could be this strong. Tsugaru is okay, I can't tell what Delic is feeling. Shizuo is confused and in pain, Tsuki's are up and down. I can catch glimpses of their thoughts." A hand gently rested on his shoulder.

"You'll get used to. In a way its a good thing you are all connected. Right?" Sakuraya soothed.

"Perhaps. I know where they are and who they're with. Tsugaru is with-

"Psyche." The demon supplied.

"Yeah. How did you know that? You seem to know everything." Shitsuo groaned feeling a spike in Shizuo's emotions. Along with it he felt a wave of calmness reaching out.

"Its not magic, well not quite." From his pocket Sakuraya pulled out a soft pink phone that he saw the humans have glued to the ears. "Usually it would be useless. My brother Izaya found a way to use them no matter where we are. Here. Try calling." Taking the phone Shitsuo sat up flipping the device open.

On the screen was a list of names. Hibiya, Izaya, Kanra, Psyche and Roppi. "Are your brothers going be okay with me calling them?" Shitsuo questioned.

"They'll be expecting it. You know Roppi is with Tsukishima. Izaya is with Shizuo, Hibiya will be with Delic, Psyche will be with Tsugaru..."

"What about this Kanra?" Shitsuo already had a feeling where this was going.

"Our mothers will be together. It was inevitable. Our fates are tied." That was it. The feeling pulling at him. At first he thought it was is power. Since the first time they had met it had been there.

"...like soul mates..." Shitsuo mumbled. Tsugaru had mentioned it to him before.

"Yeah. Exactly. You're taking this well." Sakuraya commented with a hint of surprise.

"I've heard this before. Tsugaru wouldn't say it for no reason. I guess that makes you the trickster fox?" Shitsuo felt himself smile seeing the undisguised shock on the demon's face.

"You know about that? How?" Both of them were interrupted. The phone screen flashing. "Its Izaya. Answer it." Shitsuo blinked pressing the button.

"Hello?" The angel said hesitantly. There was a pause on the other end.

Hello Shi-chan, could you hand the phone back to my brother?

"Is Shizuo with you?" Shitsuo asked instead wanting to speak to his little brother and check everything was okay.

He isn't here at the moment. Give the phone back or you'll all be in trouble. Next to him the fox demon's ears twitched long thin fingers gently taking the phone.

"What is it, Izaya? Yes I've told him...what?" With each word Shitsuo watched the demon's expression change. "I thought we had time? Hang on." Sakuraya sighed softly looking up at him. "Shitsuo, I need you to tell me where Shizuo is. You said you can feel each other right?"

Do you want to control or be controlled? Flinching at the voice in his mind the angel felt the compulsive urge to obey lessen. "Why do you want to know?" He found himself saying.

Sakuraya blinked soft pink eyes narrowing. "Izaya told Shizuo about them being soul mates. It looks like he didn't take it well. Your brother is running around somewhere."

"He's with Delic." Shitsuo slammed a hand over his mouth. It looked like he still couldn't disobey. Yet if the pair were soul mates then wasn't it okay if they found each other? "Wait. Aren't Izaya and Shizuo brothers?" His question went unanswered.

Shitsuo felt a stabbing feeling in his chest unsure whether it was his own feelings or one of his brothers. Although he was sitting right next to the demon, Sakuraya continued to talk away on the phone about things he didn't understand. What he did understand was that Izaya hadn't told Shizuo they were related yet.

Shizuo needed to know before anything happened and it was too late. As if his wish was heard Shitsuo swayed in his seat toppling forward. "Shitsuo?" At last Sakuraya looked at him. Feeling his eyes slip shut a dark crimson shadow slipped past him leading him to the same place as before. It looked like the same place anyway.

The crumbling temple was gone, as was the creepy mist. The trails of blood were gone joined in one thick stream that passed by. In front of him was a dark figure trailing a sword in her hand. "Mother?" Shitsuo called. Running ahead his hand reached out. At his touch the figure fell forward where it remained unmoving. "Mother?"

"Shitsuo." Glancing up he could see Shizuka standing further away. "You shouldn't be here." The figure by his feet had vanished. "This is a dangerous place for you and your brothers. How did you even manage to get here?"

"I'm dreaming." Shitsuo replied hurrying forward.

"Maybe. Maybe not. Be careful. If you tread this ground you might lose yourself. Leave. Look after your brothers." His mother smiled sadly holding him to her chest. Above them the sky crackled streaks of what looked like red lightning piercing the sky. That was when he noticed the purple shapes stopping it from getting any further. Small hexagons all packed together.

"What is this place?"

"Some where you should not be."

Shitsuo gasped his eyes snapping open. Above him Sakuraya was watching him with concern. "You wouldn't wake up no matter how many times I called you."

"I tried connecting to Shizuo. My mother stopped me." The blond sighed. "How long was I out?"

"Long enough. Izaya thinks you are all in danger. I've informed the others. Its no longer safe for you." Sakuraya helped him up, holding his hand and bringing it to his lips." Shitsuo shivered pulling his hand away. "Come with me." Feeling the pull to obey in his mind Shitsuo bit his lip trying to get free.

"I can't. I have to look after Tsuki."

"Roppi can look after him. Come with me." Sakuraya whispered against his ear. "Come with me." Shitsuo groaned falling forward. He couldn't disobey. Soft fingers ran through his hair a kiss pressed against his forehead. He couldn't hear Saika's voice in his head asking the same question. "I will keep you safe." Shitsuo nodded resting his head on his master's chest.

The portal he had come through rippled violently. "Stop there! Shitsuo Heiwajima, I see you are as corrupt as the rest of your family." Three of his fellow archangels stood in the room holding weapons out. "As heaven's doll you can be purified, the rest of your family cannot and will be put to death." Shitsuo shuddered Sakuraya's arms around him protectively.

"My family have done nothing wrong. We still have plenty of time before Shizuo has to return."

"How do you explain the fact that your brother was seen in the demon part of the human realm?" Crap. "Your mother cannot be found in heaven and your other brother has trespassed into the demon realm." That was what they were using as evidence? "To add to that, consorting with demons. Get away from that demon!"

Shitsuo stayed where he was standing protectively in front of Sakuraya. Behind them the other portal rippled. "What are you doing with that angel?" A shudder ran along his spine feeling the demons at their back. It was only a matter of time before they were found out. "Is that the real heaven's doll?"

This was it. His power was weak and infective. He didn't know what Sakuraya could do but between the deciding forces of both heaven and hell what good would it do? "My mother has done nothing wrong." Shitsuo spoke out holding onto Sakuraya's hand.

"Your family has never fit in. Shizuka's ways are nothing like an angel. After furthering our investigations we know she only went to the birthing chamber twice." Shitsuo swallowed knowing what that meant. Angels were a mass of spirit and energy that had to be extracted in a special way. "There is no record of Shizuo or Tsukishima's birth." Of course there wasn't. Demon births were more like humans so Shizuka had been hidden somewhere where they had managed to smuggle in a human doctor. "We suspect both of them to be half human."

If only they knew the truth. As it stood the punishment would be the same. Death. For both Shizuo and Tsuki if they were found. "We've been to your home. Living like humans how disgusting." A hand clapped over his mouth stopping him from crying out. Tsuki. His brother and the demon had both been at the house. Had they been found? "Now. Get over here."

Shitsuo remained where he was revealing that he couldn't be controlled any longer. One of the angels reached for him only to be sliced by Sakuraya's sharp claws. Not that it stopped either of the angels or demons. He could feel his master being pulled away from him just like he was being pulled away from the demon. That was when the kimono dropped to the floor Sakuraya vanishing. In his place stood a large fox.

The fox curled around his leg just as a piercing howl rang through the room. Shitsuo blinked catching a flash of grey, sharp teeth going for either side. A familiar hand rested on his arm before all four of them vanished. Clinging tightly to the fox Shitsuo felt the ground move from underneath his feet.

When everything stopped spinning Shitsuo opened his eyes not trusting himself to stand. Glancing up he found himself in a small room. It didn't look like the place had been cleaned in a while. Photos covered in dust hung on the walls. A large bed sat in the centre. Thick gouges marked the walls and floor.

Standing up Shitsuo walked slowly around the bed running his fingers through the dust of one of the photos. "That was dizzier than I thought it would be." Sakuraya sighed behind him back in his normal form. The blond didn't answer staring back at a younger version of himself. The photos were of them.

"Tsuki, where are we? Why did you bring us here?" His younger brother glanced up at him an odd look on his face and glowing red eyes. "You're not Tsukishima. Saika?" His brother smiled.
