Inherited power

Shizuo didn't understand why everyone was so much bigger than him, he didn't understand why his vision had suddenly got worse, why Izaya the demon who he had killed was still alive. Nor did he understand the weird purple glow that surrounded his youngest brother. His sight had worsened but his sense of smell had increased and with it came the scent of someone so familiar it brought tears to his eyes.

Shizuka was on the bed eyes closed and unmoving. Reaching out Shizuo fell back in shock seeing a fluffy golden paw. When he tried calling out his voice sounded like a loud bark in his own ears and his tongue was twice the length swiping over sharp teeth. Turning around slowly he could see his brothers staring at him. Was that why no one was listening to him?

He remembered Izaya transforming into a black cat. Was that what happened? Was he a dog now? Lowering his head his small paws scratched at his ears. Looking up he could see his brother fainting. Shizuo growled at the newcomer seeing a head held in his hands. Taking a step back he used his wet nose to nudge the unconscious woman. His mother. That's what she felt like. As soon as he sensed her he was reminded of being surrounded by her presence.

With Shizuka he had never had that feeling, so he hadn't been able to treat her like a mother. The woman in front of him now though oozed that feeling making him want to burst into tears. Nudging her again the woman so identical to Shizuka slowly opened her eyes, looking at him with eyes the same colour as his own. All along he had hated his muddy brown locks knowing that they were what proved he was different.

Barking continuously Shizuo nudged the woman trying to help her up. "Its fine, I've got her Shizuo." Tsugaru was at the bedside helping the woman sit up. She hadn't stopped looking at him, one delicate hand resting on his head. Shizuo felt his legs give way rolling onto his belly. "You really are Shizuo's mother aren't you?"

Shizuo barked again trying to roll back over onto his legs. A dangerous scent hit him making him growl. "Shizu-chan..." Izaya. The demon was the one to pick him up. Shizuo struggled trying to pull himself free and get back to the woman he wanted to know more about.

"Maybe you should pass him back to his mother." The raven stranger suggested still holding the head. "Its been a long time, Saika-sama." Shizuo paused in his struggling seeing the woman's gaze drop to the head. His nose twitched sensing that she wasn't happy. Resuming his struggle he pawed at the demon's arm his sharp nails breaking skin.

"If that's what you want." The cat demon said softly placing him back on the bed. Shizuo barked running back to the woman burying himself in her arms. Her fingers were gentle as they stroked his fur. "Mikado-kun, do you want to explain why you're here and why you have Celty's head?" The flea asked demanding to know.

"I came to see Saika-sama. Shizuka-sama most likely didn't tell you that she needed the head." Shizuo growled as the raven walked closer holding out the head to the woman. "To break your curse." The woman he recognized as his mother began to shake, Shizuo could feel despair radiating from her in waves. Opening his mouth, he leapt forward chomping down on the raven's arm.

"Shizu-chan!" His small body went flying only to be caught in Izaya's arms.

"My apologies, Shizuo-sama. I'm not used to pain yet. I have no intention to harm any of you, especially not your mother." Shizuo growled only for the flea's fingers to stroke his head like he had done so before. Feeling himself relax he buried his head in the warmth provided.

Delic couldn't help feeling jealous as he watched his brother's new form snuggle into the cat demon's arms. It wasn't fair. The strange thing was that he didn't feel like snatching him and running. Ever since he had been hit by his mother's power, he had been feeling strange. The cold feeling in his heart felt warm and disgustingly fuzzy.

Just like him each of his brothers had been bound to their eternal mate. Shizuo could no longer be his and was stuck with the cat demon. Tsugaru and his mate seemed happy enough, as did his unconscious younger sibling and the brooding demon watching over him. Although it was doubtful that Tsukishima had been corrupted. That just left his missing older brother. Now it looked like there was a new member of their family, or an old one.

Not that it was anything to do with him. Turning away Delic walked from the room only for him to be followed. "Who gave you permission to leave?" The arrogant raven demanded.

"I don't belong in there. I never did." Covering his mouth in shock, the blond couldn't believe that he had let out his honest feelings. Golden eyes widened momentarily. "I'm going for a walk." Whatever was happening he needed to get away.

"The city is at war. You are not going out there." Hibiya told him sternly. Delic hung his head taking a step closer to the window. Slowly his wings stretched out behind him. "What is that?" Pink eyes widened in shock seeing that instead of the ash black wings of a fallen angel, his wings were now a dark grey the feathers getting lighter as they got closer to his body.

"W-what is this?" Where were his wings? Was this why his heart felt warm? Was he still a fallen or an angel? But there was no such thing as a redeemed angel. Once you fell, you fell for good.

"There is a prophecy about our families." Delic looked up slowly seeing the golden eyes prince wannabe staring at him. "When cat and dog collide. A lonely wolf cannot hide. A vengeful bite will be for naught. The trickster fox will be caught. The hyper child won't stay calm. The prideful king can do no harm. A child forever lost and found. The purest one will be bound. The loyal one can't disobey. Blackened wings will turn grey. The calmest one will start it all. When the strongest wakes all shall fall" Hibiya finished.

"You mean this was set in stone? Blackened wings will turn grey...everyone knew? Why wasn't I told this? Wait when I first fell I got given a fortune cookie but I threw it back without opening it."

"The prideful king can do no harm. Commoner you were created solely to serve me. To stay by my side." The demon informed him. "I have not caused you any harm, have I?"

"You hurt my pride. My name is Delic by the way. I don't like being called commoner." Shaking his head in disgust the blond clamped his hand firmly over his mouth. What was it that Tsuagru had said? Purified. His mother had purified Shizuo, the sword and him because he had gotten too close. A hand awkwardly rested on his head as he slumped confused to his knees.

"Will Delic-san do?" Delic simply nodded not trusting himself to speak.

Tsugaru sat back against the wall watching the interaction between Saika and the other god that called himself Mikado. Psyche was watching too though more content with sitting in his lap. "Tsu-chan. Are you feeling better?" Nodding in response his hand slipped into the rabbit demon's. "Good. Don't get hurt any more, Tsu-chan. Tsugaru smiled tightening his grip.

"Why are you here then?" Izaya asked taking a seat on the bed with the golden retriever in his arms. They had quickly figured out that the woman couldn't talk. The cat demon had given her a pen and some paper to write on. From here he could see just fine.

"Shizuka-sama and Saika-sama are twin sisters born in the realm of the gods." The blue eyed raven explained instead. "The three of us- me, Masaomi and Sonohara-san were children at the time. I guess you could say they were our teachers. We each had different powers and Shizuka-sama and Saika-sama's was the most dangerous."

Tsugaru listened already knowing the basics. "Shizuka-sama had the power to purify anything and full control over anyone's emotions. Unfortunately her lust got out of control and she developed feelings for her sister. Saika-sama was more disciplined in controlling her power. She could control anyone with a single word. Even when we were home she didn't speak much. Together they had the strongest power. The power to be wherever they wanted to be. That's why I need Saika-sama to break her curse."

"If they are so dangerous, why would I want the two of them in my city?" Tsugaru watched the puppy growl knowing Shizuo could understand every word they said.

"Because the barrier has been destroyed and with it the portals. You have angels and demons in Ikebukuro with no way to get back home. Who do you think created the barrier and portals in the first place? Its one of the reasons the two of them were cursed. They interfered in the other gods' games."

I can take it from here. Ah, so she did know how to write. Tsugaru looked from the puppy back to Saika. Shizuo was struggling again trying to escape from the cat demon's arms. I am the cursed demon Saika, at least that's what they call me.

"Are you Shizu-chan's mother?" The blond already knew the truth seeing the pair looking at each other. Tsuagru smiled seeing the puppy get free falling onto the bed, the poor thing scrambling up to Saika's hands.

Shizuka was completely empty thanks to her curse, I couldn't find a way to get to her so I asked one of the other gods for help.

"Sonohara-san." Mikado breathed.

She helped me encase myself into a sword where I could communicate with those that held me.

"Why didn't you just talk to your sister?" The wolf demon growled with Tsukishima's head in his lap.

Because I couldn't. Having a body was...painful. The moment I linked with Shizuka I could help her but she didn't recognize me.

Tsugaru went to get up seeing Saika hold her wrist. "You haven't answered the question." The snake demon said from where she was standing in view of the piece of paper.

Shizuka's power purified her body of any damages or anomalies. I rarely interfered with the three older children. Shizuo was almost never born. I had to take over completely. I guess that would make me his mother. Tsukishima I had to occasionally interfere with.

"You chose to be trapped in a sword to help your sister?" The cat demon asked again.

Yes.

That was when Tsugaru knew that the woman in front of them wasn't cursed or dangerous. She had been trying to protect them in the only way she could. Whilst his mother slept he had his auntie. "To control or be controlled...what did that mean? That dream you used to connect us all..." Slowly he pushed his lover off of him standing up.

Each one of you inherited either mine or Shizuka's powers. For you its the power to calm anyone. If you ever get angry your power will change. Shizuo has the power to destroy anything me and my sister created. Delic has the power to control lust but like my sister it took over. Tsukishima is the reason why she decided to free me. The pen dropped rolling across the pieces of paper. "What about Shitsuo?"

"Saika-sama is tired. She's only just woken up." Nodding his head the fallen angel gently helped lower his aunt back down, Shizuo already curling up into a fluffy ball. The cursed demon was instantly asleep shifting a little closer to his mother. Stepping a bit closer he caught sight of a black mark on her wrist. Lifting it gently his mouth dropped open. There on Saika's wrist was the black O that had been on Shizuo's chest since the day he had been born.

"Why does she have an Orihara birthmark?" Tsugaru asked looking around the room. Everyone else looked just as puzzled as him. Why hadn't Kanra mentioned anything? Getting no answer he looked back to the god in the room.

"When you get banished from the realm of the gods, your body undergoes a transformation. Shizuka-sama was dumped in the angel realm picked up by a Heiwajima. Saika-sama was dropped in the demon's realm picked up by an Orihara." Tsugaru blinked seeing that everyone including his lover had fallen silent.
