The Walking Dead: Fight for Survival
Chapter 15: lost and separated
Hi everyone, I'm back to continuing writing Fight for Survival. I played Amid the Ruins, and I got to say, great episode it was. Aside from that,
I have began my own community for The Walking Dead Game community. Anyone is welcome to join and add their stories to it. If you wish to join, just send me a Private Message and I will get you into the community. Long-story-short, here's chapter 15. Happy reading.
Sarita was in complete shock while staring at her bitten wrist to even notice that she was still trapped in a horde of walkers. She turned towards her savior, Lee, but even though he may have killed the walker, that still would not stop her from reanimating. "I...I'm bit...Lee...I'm bit...Oh God, Oh Jesus! I'm going to die!"
"You're not going to die if I can help it!" Lee disagreed, having faith that there would still be a chance to save her, but what a fool he was to think. "Come on, we got to move!"
Nearby, the remaining group (exception for Jane, who was nowhere to be seen) ran towards Lee through the horde of walkers, killing a couple along the way. Carley and Mike stood only a couple of feet away from Lee, their expressions shocked when seeing Sarita's bite.
"Lee, are you all right?" Carley inquired before she was almost knocked down by a nearby walker, but she was swift to evade it and quickly stabbed it in its brain with blade knife.
"Oh, my God!" Mike gasped, eyeing Sarita's bite mark on her wrist. "Sarita...She's...She's been...Bit..."
"We don't have the time to worry about it right now!" Lee replied, quickly grabbing Sarita's other arm as tight as his grip could go. "We got to move! Come on, every stay close to me!"
Carley did a quick check to make sure everyone was here and accounted for, but a couple of them were missing. Luke, Jane, and Rebecca were nowhere to be seen. She grabbed Clementine's hand as she ran through the horde of walkers. "Clementine, stay close to me!"
As the duo continued running, a couple of walkers blocked their way, separating Carley and Clementine from each other. Clementine was able to keep up with Lee but she could not go back and help Carley without getting herself killed.
Carley panicked as she raised her blade and stabbed a couple of more walkers approaching her. She had no idea how she was going to get out of this in one piece. However, she took note that her walker blood across her body still had some effect on the other walkers, who mistake her for one of them.
She quickly turned around when an approaching walker almost got her, but something killed it from behind and the walker dropped to the ground. She felt so relieved to see a familiar face and realize she was not on her own. "Luke..."
"Carley, Sarah ran off through the horde all on her own!" Luke said while he decapitated a couple of more walkers with his machete. "I'm going after her. You coming!?"
"What about the others?!" Carley reminded, looking in every direction for any sign of Lee, Clementine, and the rest of their friend, but unfortunately, there was no sign of them anywhere. "We can't leave them!"
"We won't. We're going to find Sarah and then we'll meet up with them at Parker's Run!" Luke said, keeping his eyes focused on the direction Sarah had ran off to, his expression determined to find her. "Let's go!"
Carley hesitated just for a couple of seconds, but she would rather be with someone than alone out here, and she knew for a fact Lee would not leave Parker's Run until everyone was now and accounted for. She followed Luke through the horde of walkers, killing a couple along the way.
Not too far from where Carley and Luke had ran off from, Lee and Clementine had been separated from Mike, Bonnie, and Sarita, but fortunately for them, the walkers were not aware they were human and merely walked past them.
Lee kept Clementine close to me while he held a hatchet in his free hand, prepared to fight and protect Clementine with his life if things were to go wrong. But as long as they both walked and made no sound, they would be fine. "Stay close to me, Clem." he whispered in a very quiet tone. "Don't make a sound."
"Got it." Clementine whispered in return. "Let's just get-Ah!-" Clementine was cut off when she was suddenly grabbed and pulled away from Lee. She was about to scream, but whoever grabbed her covered her mouth to prevent her screaming.
Lee panicked when Clementine was out of his grip in the quick of a flash. He remained silent as lifted his hatchet in the air and prepared to kill whoever grabbed her, already suspecting a walker had done it. Fortunately, he stopped in the nick of time when he saw a familiar face. "Rebecca..."
"Shhh, it's just me." Rebecca assured as she released her arms from around the young girl and ducked down behind a boulder. She still had her body covered in walker guts, meaning she could still blend in with the horde as long as she kept silent. "Thank God I found you guys. Where are the others?"
"We got separated." Lee answered, kneeling down with the duo as he made certain that walkers were not taking any notice of them. "We can't find anyone."
"What are we going to do?" Rebecca asked with a worried tone, giving up hope on getting herself and her unborn child out of here in one piece, but she still kept quiet. "I was with Luke, but we got separated. I don't think I can do this, guys."
"We can get out of this." Lee assured, hoping to keep her calm to avoid being exposed by any walkers. "Look, all three of us are still covered in walker guts. And the walkers are still being drawn towards the store. We can make it out if we-"
Lee was cut off from his sentence when Rebecca felt a pain in her stomach, causing her to groan in pain, but she tried to keep as quiet as possible. She prayed the pain would not last long while she was trapped in this horde.
"Rebecca, are you all right?" Clementine inquired, allowing Rebecca to hold her hand while she groaned in agonizing pain. "Are you going to be able to keep moving?"
"Not like we have much of a choice." Rebecca replied, knowing there was no going back once they were out. "I'm glad you're both here. We can all watch each other's back."
"All right, but first we need to find a way out." Lee suggested, turning around and shifting his attention towards the nearby woods. He noticed a small opening where the walkers thinning out, giving them the perfect opportunity to escape if they were quick enough. "There, by the trees! Everyone say behind me. I'll lead the way."
Being as silent as they could, Lee, Clementine, and Rebecca stood up and slowly walked through the horde towards the area that was thinning out. Hopefully once they were out of the horde, they could reunite with everyone else.
As they were walking, Clementine had panicked a little when she could have sworn a walker had detected her and turned around, preparing to run away until she saw yet another familiar face she bumped into. "Jane!"
Lee shifted his attention around where the trio was standing completely still. He changed direction and slowly approached them. "Jane, where have you been-"
"Stop. Relax or you'll be spotted." Jane warned, her face showing no emotion like usually. She slowly walked through the horde whilst whispering obvious advice. "Just slowly walk...You will be fine as long as you keep quiet and just walk."
"I don't know if I can do this." Rebecca admitted, beginning to cry in fear as she followed Jane with Lee and Clementine. "We need your help. Please."
Jane stopped for a moment, for once, acting like she actually cared. She merely gave them more advice rather than help physically. "It's a bad idea for us to stay together. It's better if we all just spread out."
"It's a bad idea if we split up." Rebecca replied, placing her hands upon her pregnant stomach. "Please Jane."
"You'll be fine as long as you listen to what I said." Jane reassured whilst folding her arms together and surveying the area for a way out.
"Jane, we need to stick together." Lee suggested, unable to risk losing more of their friends. "We lost too many as it is."
Jane sighed as she focused her attention towards Rebecca, who was beginning to cry even more. As much as she wanted to leave after being here for so long, she knew leaving her there would not be right. "Fuck...All right, Lee, give me a hand."
"Clem, stay here with Rebecca. Don't make a sound." Lee instructed, his tone calm yet serious. He stood in silence while Jane explained her plan to get them out of here in one piece.
"We need to push back through that horde of walkers. We need a cow-catcher to move on. " Jane explained, surveying the walkers to look for a walker that looked easy enough to move.
"A what now?" Lee inquired.
"Cow-catcher, one we can use to move through them." Jane answered, finally picking out the perfect walker that looked light enough for her to use. "That one looks good enough. Lee, I'm going to move on the far side of it. You get its attention. Trust me."
Lee nodded in agreement, although he had no idea what she was going to do, but for the sake of himself, Clementine, and Rebecca, it had to be done. He stood a couple of feet away from the walker and called out to it in a loud enough tone for it to hear without alerting the rest. "Hey!"
The walker was attracted to his voice and slowly turned around, limping towards him for a tasty meal. As it moved closer towards its next victim, Jane had popped out of nowhere all of a sudden and sliced the walker's mouth of with her knife, preventing it from biting anyway.
"I'd like to see you bite anyone know." Jane spoke to it as she placed her hands upon its neck and back, and began to push it through the horde of walkers, using it as a distraction. "All right, follow me. Stay close. If you fall behind, there's nothing I can do."
"We understand." Lee whispered, volunteering himself to be the last one in line to keep an eye on Clementine and Rebecca and make sure they did not fall behind. He clutched his weapon tightly in his hand, preparing for the worst.
A couple of walkers did look at them for just a couple of seconds, but mainly focused their attention on the gunfire from Howe's Hardware store. After a couple of terrifying moments walking through the horde of walkers, hearing nothing but walker groans and gunfire whilst expecting their cover to be blown any second now, the four of them made it out of the horde and into the woods.
Jane finished off the walker she used to get through by kicking it to the ground and stabbing the back of its head and proceeded towards the woods. "All right, follow me. Let's get out of here."
Lee nodded and walked with Jane through the woods, keeping both his arms around Clementine and Rebecca. He felt super relieved to make it out of there, but nevertheless, he was still worried that everyone might not have made it out. He had no idea where Carley, Luke, Mike, Bonnie, Sarita, and Sarah were. But he prayed everyone made it out of there, especially Carley.
Morning had arrived in the woods of California, Tennessee. The four friends Lee, Clementine, Jane, and Rebecca had been walking almost all night, but did stop to get most of the walker guts off from their clothing. They were now heading towards Parker's Run with Jane leading the way. Clementine and Rebecca walked close behind whilst Lee walked beside Jane.
While they were walking through the woods, Clementine turned her attention back towards Rebecca and took that that she was not looking that well. She held her stomach with one hand whilst struggling to walk a little. "Rebecca, I know it hurts, but we need to keep moving. We're almost there."
"I hope so." Rebecca admitted. "I'm so cold. It's freezing out here. I really wish I could stop and take a break, but I want to get there as soon as possible. I need to know if everyone made it. Luke, Sarita, Sarah, Mike, Bonnie, and Carley. We already lost Nick, Pete, Carlos, Lilly, and...Alvin...I just hope they're all there."
Clementine remained silent as she lowered her head, her expression looking somewhat guilty. She understood how much Rebecca was upset over the loss of her husband's death. If Clementine had not ordered Lilly to fire, than maybe...Just maybe she could have saved him.
Carver took cover behind one of the wooden support beams with his python holstered, calling out to Lilly as he prepared to fire just in case. "That's for our man. Now, I didn't want to do this, but you ain't leaving me much choice. So here's what's going to happen. I'm going to march another one of your friends out here and I'm going to put a bullet in the back of their head. Or you can give up now. Your choice."
The only response Carver got was another shot from Lilly that hit the wooden support beam he was taking cover behind.
"Bastard!" Lilly growled, cocking her rifle back and firing another shot that hit the same support beam again.
Carver merely flinched a little in response as he made his way over to the other prisoners, preparing to take one more of them hostage in an attempt to coax them out from hiding.
Clementine realized she was not going to be able to get another shot from his position, and she spotted another covering position they could use. "Lilly, over there!"
The two ran over to where Clementine was pointing and jumped into the small circle that was surrounded by a metal fence for cover.
"Hi, Alvin." Carver greeted, forcing Alvin to stand onto his feet as he marched him over towards the window.
"Bill, no!" Rebecca begged, attempting to stop him from using her husband as a hostage, but was held back by Troy. "Tell her to stop. Lilly, stop!"
"Alvin!" Clementine gasped, seeing Carver force Alvin over towards the window where Johnny had been shot; unaware that Lilly had changed her sniper position.
"Dammit. It's a tough shot." Lilly admitted, trying to get a good aim on him without hitting Alvin. She asked Clementine for advice since she was quite smart in situations like this. "What do you think?...CLEMENTINE? I think I got a shot!"
"Shoot!" Clementine ordered, suspecting this may be their only hope to save everyone, especially Lee.
Lilly closed her eye and fired a single shot, and as luck would have it, she managed to hit Carver, and he collapsed down onto the ground. There was silence for a moment as the prisoners merely watched while Bonnie and Troy watched in shock of their leader's possible death. All of a sudden, Carver's eyes had widened open and he stood back up, holding his free hand against his right should where Lilly had managed to hit him.
Lilly panicked when she saw him stand back up and attempted to finish him off, but her gun did not fire. She quickly tried to reload before Carver took anyone else hostage that may cost her dearly.
Carver clutched his shoulder and without hesitation, he fired his python, hitting Alvin directly in his forehead. His expression did not show any remorse for killing him, and instead, he marched back over towards the prisoners to continue his work.
"NO! ALVIN!" Rebecca screamed, crying heavily as she fell down onto her knees.
"Alvin!" Carlos gasped, unable to imagine how Rebecca was feeling right now. "Rebecca. Don't look. Just don't look, Rebecca...Oh my God. Oh my God."
Clementine dazed out from her thoughts when Jane spoken up. "If they're not there, then there's not really anything we can do about it." she admitted.
"Don't say stuff like that!" Rebecca snapped, angry that Jane would say something so selfish like that.
"All right, I'm sorry." Jane apologized, but her tone did not sound like she meant it.
"Why would you say that?" Lee inquired, speaking in a normal tone unlike Rebecca. "If they're not there, we could look for them."
"It's a big world out there." Jane reminded, keeping her eyes locked onto the direction they were heading in. "The chances of finding someone are slim. Besides, it's not safe anywhere these days."
Rebecca listened on their conversation, and when hearing the word "safe", she turned her head around and checked for any walkers that may be following them without them realizing. "Are we safe for now? We don't know if we're being followed or not. It's been quiet...For now, at least."
"We're fine." Jane assured, though there was a possibility of her saying this just to stop Rebecca from speaking.
"We need to keep going anyway." Rebecca replied, trying her best to pick up the pace and keep in the same speed level with everyone else present, but her pregnancy made that hard.
"It must have been at least an hour since we saw any walkers." Clementine admitted, slowly down a little so she could walk at the same pace as Rebecca.
"Clementine's right." Lee agreed with his adoptive daughter, knowing she was right for now. "I think they're all still busy with Carver's people. Let's hope they stay there."
"Let's hope our luck lasts." Rebecca hoped, placing both her hands upon her stomach when she felt her baby kick a little bit. She prayed they would find somewhere safe before she went into labor. "Guys, I'm grateful we escape, but I can't help but worry for the others. Do you think they made it there? I think it's stupid the way we escaped."
"Why? It worked, didn't it?" Jane reminded, her being the only that made it through the horde without being noticed since she had much experience.
"I know we all agreed, but it was a pretty stupid move." Rebecca admitted. "A lot of things went wrong. Do you think we should have been a bit more patient? Made a better plan."
"It worked, and that's all that matters." Jane assured.
"Worked?" Rebecca gasped. "Carlos is dead; the others are nowhere to be seen..."
"And Sarita was bit." Lee added, causing a slight shock to both Clementine and Rebecca, who were unaware of what happened to her.
"She was what?" Rebecca asked in shock.
"She got bit, by a walker." Lee answered the obvious, keeping his head lowered slightly as he felt somewhat responsible. If he was quicker, than maybe he would have been able to save her. "There was nothing else she could do but run. Maybe we should have tried something else. Maybe Sarita might have avoided being bit."
"Guys. I know some of your people didn't make it." Jane admitted, herself feeling a little sad over the death of their friends. She did not like walking among walkers, despite the fact she did it all the time. "But don't forget that Carver was a psychopath. If we stayed, things would have only got a lot worse than it already was. If a couple of you didn't panic, things might have turned out better than they should have been. "
"Of course we panicked!" Rebecca stated the obvious. "We were scared. It's easy walking through a bunch of monsters."
"There was nothing we could have done to prevent it." Clementine jumped on their conversation, defending Rebecca with her statement. "Carlos got shot. He couldn't exactly ignore it. Sarah was obviously going to be devastated."
"Look, it was a good plan, but when it actual came to going along with it, that's when things got bad." Jane explained, attempting to defend herself from their judgment.
"Are you trying to say it was their fault?" Rebecca inquired.
"No, no! That's not what I'm saying!" Jane reassured, closing her eyes for a moment whilst trying to find the right words. "It's just that-"
Jane was cut off from her sentence when Rebecca groaned in agonizing pain, clutching her stomach hard. "ERG!" she groaned, immediately freezing in her tracks. "I need to stop!"
Everyone stopped and turned around, facing towards Rebecca. Lee stood the closest, preparing to catch her if she fell. Each of them knew that baby was coming soon and there was nothing they could do to prevent that. All they could do was hope they would find somewhere safe to deliver it.
"I'm sorry, guys. I really don't want to slow us down." Rebecca admitted, but she could not do anything about it for now. "Guys, can I have a minute please?"
"Sure. Take a minute or so, Rebecca." Lee granted.
"Thank you." she thanked, but she soon began to cry quietly to herself, turning away from the others. Rebecca would give almost anything to have her husband back with her. "I wish Alvin was here. He should be here for this. That fucking madman Carver killed him."
Clementine shifted her attention towards her guardian and Jane for advice. "Lee, Jane, do you guys know anything about babies?"
"Just children around your age when I first met you. Not babies." Lee answered, unsure on how to take care of a baby, especially in this day and age where getting the right supplies was almost impossible.
"No. me neither." Jane replied in an unfortunate tone. She focused her attention towards Rebecca's stomach and asked a rather awkward question. "What are you going to do with it?"
"And what's that supposed to mean?" Rebecca inquired; angered that Jane would ask such a question like that. She was going to take care and raise her child obviously.
"Uh, nothing, sorry." Jane apologized, nervously rubbing her hand behind the back of her neck. "I was just trying to make conversation, you know."
Rebecca did not buy it for a moment and immediately repeated her question again. "No. I want to know what you mean by that. Do with what? My baby!?"
"Rebecca, calm down." Lee soothed, knowing stress was not good for a pregnant woman, especially one so close to giving birth.
"Look, I was just looking at the worst case scenario." Jane answered. "You may have Lee and Clementine with you, but raising a baby out here is going to be hard. It's going to need feed, warmth, and other stuff."
"Your point?" Rebecca inquired, pretending to be prepared for everything Jane had just told her.
"It's going to be helpless and you can't protect it." Jane said.
"And you think I won't be capable enough, don't you?" Rebecca now understood what she meant by this and was now even angrier than before. "Just because you're some angry woman who doesn't give a fuck about anyone but herself, you think you know everything."
"Hey! I use to have people too, you know!?" Jane replied, raising her tone into an angered one that was the first tone any of them had seen. "I had a sister, and she-"
"Let me guess, she died! Boo-hoo!" Rebecca shouted, and that there was going too far. "Don't act like you're the only one who's lost someone!"
Jane was in complete shock to what she had just told her. Her expression looked like she was about to cry, but instead, she turned around and folded her arms. "You don't understand." her tone sounded like she was going to cry.
Rebecca realized she went too far and her expression softened from an angered one to an apologetic one. "Jane...I'm sorry. I didn't mean it, honest."
"Look, guys, I see what you both are saying." Lee admitted, half-agreeing with the two of them whilst folding his arms together near his chest. "Rebecca, I'm not going to lie. Raising a baby in this world is going to be tough, but it is possible. Jane, I see what you're saying, but like it or not, that baby is coming. The best thing we can do for now is get to Parker's Run, find the others, and find somewhere safe."
Clementine was impressed by Lee's wisdom that even made her smile slightly. She knew how great Lee was at solving problems, proven by how he sorted all their problems out in the past, especially when it came to Kenny and Lilly's arguments almost every day.
Rebecca and Jane both listened to every word he had just told them and realized he were right. It was going to be hard yet possible, but they were going to need supplies, shelter, and more things. Without saying anything, Jane began resumed her walk towards the direction they were heading in. The other three followed a couple of seconds afterwards.
The four friends remained silent for the rest of their journey towards Parker's Run, hoping they could make a plan once they reunited with the others. That's if everyone made it there, of course.
Here's the update, my fellow Walking Dead readers. There will be a few changes in this story compared to what happened in Amid the Ruins. Stay tuned if you wish to find up. Chapter 16, coming soon.
