Chapter 7
Tigress sprinted to the Jade Palace. She was panting by the time she stood in front of the entrance. She wanted to scream to the world, or just to break down on tears. She wish she could just stop being her. Everywhere she went she was..different. Never accepted. She pretended that people muttering about her didn't bother her, but really, it made her feel insecure. And of course Xiang had to come again.
Sometimes she wished, she could have just disappeared. He offended her, but now in front of the others. Not that she really cared about if they believed him or not. But it made her look weak. Is like showing them a display of her insecurity.
She wanted to cry...but she forced herself not to. She could handle it herself. She just needed to woman up. She got to her room, but she felt that she was captive in there. She needed a breath of fresh air now that she was in her room. She walked outside, took a big leap and landed gracefully on the roof. She sighed, she remembered how often she used to do this back on the orphanage.
The memory seemed so distant now, even though it was so recent. Tigress hugged her legs and rested her chin on her knees. She looked up at the sky, and then she became meditative of her life.
It was all happening so fast, that she could barely catch a breath. Maybe she just wasn't meant for this.
"Hey Ti. Are you alright?" She heard, she tensed up. She couldn't be seen in such a vulnerable state. She let go of her legs and got into her straight posture.
"Yes Po. thanks for your concern" She responded, and then pretended she was continuing her meditation. Po sat by her side, Tigress opened one of her eyes and looked at him. Suddenly, Po hugged her. Tigress widen her eyes, not knowing how to respond.
"You don't have to pretend to be tough, at least not with me" He whispered. Tigress took the words in, and a small smiled formed. She was deeply touched. She didn't want people to see through her, but once in a while she wished someone would...like Po.
Po let go of her and looked at the ground, with a tint of red in his cheeks.
"i'm...sorry" Tigress made him go quiet by putting her lips on his. As soon as she did, she parted the touch. She saw the panda shocked, making her smirk. She stood up and started heading to the training hall, her tail swishing from one side to another.
"Thanks Po. I'll keep that in mind" Po was still agape, so all he could do was nod his head dumbly up and down. Tigress chuckled silently.
Now she didn't wanted to do anything else. Not training, even though it would improve her performance. Not meditating, she didn't feel like thinking about deep things. Maybe sleep...yes, that would be it.
She laid down on her bed and closed her eyes, and almost immediately, she felt sleep purring, thinking of the kiss.
Po still couldn't believe what happened. All he knew was that SHE kissed HIM. The prettiest and most hardcore person in the world just kissed him! He was so shocked that he could just nod. But once she disappeared, he started cheering and jumping and celebrating. He had forgotten about the rest of the world, this jovial moment was just for him to enjoy. He licked his lips, wanting to make sure he wasn't dreaming. A sweet flavor met his tongue. He smiled and threw fist bumps into the air.
The rest arrived later on, only to find an extremely happy panda dancing on the roof (a completely normal sight *sarcastic tone*) and purring coming from the barracks.
...
The next 2 days no one dared to ask them what happened. Now today was the day Master Chao came. Tigress was fighting from one side of the hall to the other. You could see she was sweating, but not all of it was form the training. Tigress was not good at hiding her nervousness, maybe because she never had a reason to.
She was panting, looking out for her mistakes, cautiously thinking to herself not to do that when the time came. The rest were going to tell her to calm down, but whenever they tried, they would just earn a glare from the feline. Po was the only one able to give her thumbs up with out earning a glare, but that was it. If he even tried stepping near her, she would swish her tail angrily. SO they all kept her distance.
Is not that Tigress hated them or so. But they just added more pressure to her. Sure, maybe she could simply explain that to them, but it was easier to glare.
"Tigress, Master Chao is here. Go to the Hall of Warriors and prepare" Tigress bowed and sprinted there. She had already practiced her routine a thousand times there, to be honest, she practiced it too much that even the rest knew it by now. And someone else have also being observing her...
when she got outside of the doors, she stopped. She was scared. She looked at herself and brushed her fur down. Then She took a deep breath and put on her usual serious/ emotionless face. Master Shifu was already there, who knows how he got there so fast, but he was talking Master Chao. When she came in they stopped, Master Chao turned around and looked at her. She immediately vowed.
"I heard you passed the auditions," he raised his eyebrows, marking he wanted her name.
"Tigress" Master Chao nodded.
"Very well Tigress, now I have come to asses you on your skills. The five have already spoke to me that they, indeed, agreed on your stay" Tigress took a quick glance to her sides, and the five were smiling at her. She gave them a small grin and then turned her attention back to the lizard.
"Begin" He ordered. Shifu was standing beside him. Tigress bowed before starting.
She swiftly moved her foot in front of her, then she jumped really high, performing a split and some kicks while in the air. She then landed, but it wasn't like she had planned. Once she set foot on the ground again, she slipped. She caught her balance again, but she knew that counted as a mistake.
"Continue" She briefly nodded, at least he had given her another chance. She performed the Tahlia leap. Then she did a flip, using the elevation she had gained to show some acrobatics. But once again, she landed on another spot, but it seemed that the moment she set her hand to land, her hand gave in, making her whole body fall and cause a loud thump. Tigress groaned, she stood up and looked at her feet embarrassed. However, she had never doubted of her skills, and this has never happened to her. And she was sure this wasn't her fault, the floor just seemed...slippery.
She was about to speak when Master Chao turned to Shifu, his hands clasped together.
"Shifu, she has good skills. However, she doesn't have enough expertise to be part of the group. She made simple mistakes, which in a battle, could have cost her her life" Shifu couldn't protest. He looked...disappointed. Tigress hated herself right now.
Master Chao faced her,
"Tigress, you are talented, no doubt of that, but I'm afraid that you need more experience to become a Master, sorry" She nodded and bowed. Then Master Chao started exiting. The five were pretty shocked, not because she didn't got in. But because she never made a mistake, at least not simple mistakes like not being able to land gracefully. That was what she did best!
Tigress didn't wanted any comfort form anyone, so she just stormed out of the Palace. Po looked at his friends and back to the door.
"Go ahead" Viper said. Po smiled at her and went running towards the feline. Viper giggled, Po was like her little brother and she always cared for him. Master Shifu was still in the same position, but he was lost in thought.
"Master Shifu, is everything alright?" Viper said, slithering next to where he was.
"Don't you think its odd that Tigress made common errors?" Shifu thought out loud. The four were walking towards them,
"Yeah, she never made those mistakes in her past performances" Viper mentioned. Monkey started to walk past the spot where Tigress had just performed, when he yelled.
"Woah!" he exclaimed before he fell. Mantis went to his side and helped him stand up.
"Dude, why did you fell?"
"It wasn't me, it was the floor. It has some sort of liquid there" Monkey said. Shifu widen his eyes, and hurried to the spot. It did look shinier. This could be why Tigress failed all her landings, she just slipped. But he knew that they couldn't go after master Chao without evidence of the sabotage.
"Does anyone has an idea on who might have sabotage her?" The four looked at each other and shook their heads, this might be harder that they thought.
BAM! Sabotage? who would do that?! Most of you know the answer...:) Anyway, see ya on the next chapter! Btw, I've been practicing on drawing Tigress and Po, and man, I am getting good! oh yeah, and we are one year and 1 day away from KUNG FU PANDA 3!
-Peace out!
