Chapter 72

"I'm awake!" Kate yelled as she woke up. Her phone was ringing. She groaned.

"Yes?" Kate picked up.

'Gibbs. Gear up, we've got a case'

"But, it's Saturday, Gibbs!" Kate whined.

'I'm not you paying to complain, Kate. Now, drag your butt into the NCIS building'

"Okay. Be there in fifteen" Kate said with a sigh. She hung up.

Kate looked to her right. On her couch, Tony was sitting there, with a baby strapped on his chest. They were both sleeping.

Kate slapped her forehead. She shook Tony's shoulder.

"Tony…" She whispered. No response.

"Psst" She hissed. He stirred a bit. She rolled her eyes.

"Wake up!" She said forcefully. Tony turned to the other side. Kate groaned.

She got up from the couch.

Five minutes later, Kate came back with a glass of water in her hand. She poured the water over Tony, while grinning.

Tony quickly opened his eyes.

"Gah! Stop, stop!" He yelled. He moved away. Kate smirked.

"We've got a case! Get up!" Kate ordered. Tony quickly got up, with the baby in his arms.

"What the…?" Tony looked at the baby questionably. He remembered. "Oh, right"

Kate laughed. She took her phone out.

"Wonder what is taking Rachel so long…" Kate muttered. She dialed her sister's phone and called it.

'Hello, this is Rachel. If you're getting this, then I'm probably not at home. Please leave a message after the sound: Beep!'

Kate hung up.

"That's odd" She said. Tony looked at her.

"What's odd?" Tony asked. Kate shook her head dismissively.

"Nothing, it's just that, uh… Rachel always answers her phone, and all I'm getting right now is voicemail" Kate explained. Tony shrugged.

"Maybe she's sleeping" Tony suggested.

"Nah, she gets up early. I'll call her again later" Kate replied. Tony stared at her.

"What?" Kate questioned.

"What are we going to do with the baby, Kate?" Tony asked. Kate slapped her forehead.

"Uh, I haven't considered this situation before" Kate said.

"Eh, it'll be just fine at home alone" Tony shrugged as he put the baby down. The baby giggled.

"What? Tony have you gone nuts? We can't just leave the baby here!" Kate hissed angrily.

"Why not?" He inquired. Kate rolled her eyes.

"It's a baby, Tony. My sister's baby!" Kate said, whilst pinching her nose bridge.

"Yeah, I kind figured that out already" Tony said sarcastically. Kate groaned.

"Not helping here!" Kate said.

"Well, what should we do then?" Tony asked. Kate glared at him with a guilty look.

"Oh, no. Kate, we're not doing that" Tony refused as he realized what Kate's look meant.

"Oh, come on! It's the only solution" Kate begged. Tony sighed.

"Fine" He replied.

…

Tony sat in Kate's car, with the baby hanging off his chest. Kate was grinning as she started the engine.

"You owe me" Tony whispered. Kate nodded, still smiling.

"Oh, hell, I do" She said. He shook his head.

10 minutes later…

Kate and Tony arrived at the NCIS' parking, where Gibbs was waiting for them. Kate slid her window down.

"Morning" Kate greeted. Gibbs nodded. He didn't seem to notice Tony sitting in the car with a baby.

"What took you so long?" Gibbs asked. Kate shrugged.

"Had to take care of some things" Kate simply replied. He nodded.

"Okay. You're following my car to the crime scene" Gibbs said.

"No problem" Kate answered. Just as she was about to continue driving, Gibbs stopped her.

"Hey, where's DiNozzo?" Gibbs asked. Kate grinned.

"Oh, he's right here" Kate said as she pointed on the back seat, where Tony was sitting. Fortunately, Tony managed to cover the baby, so Gibbs wouldn't notice.

"Oh, hey there, boss" Tony greeted. Gibbs cocked his head.

"DiNozzo" He said.

"Yeah boss?" Tony replied.

"What the hell are you doing in Kate's car?" Gibbs asked calmly. Tony swallowed.

"I just drove past his house and decided to pick him up" Kate interrupted. Gibbs looked suspiciously at both of them.

"Okay, then. Just don't break any rules" Gibbs mumbled. A tiny baby giggle was heard. Gibbs looked at Tony.

"Was that a giggle?" He questioned. Tony nodded, blushing. Kate held in her laughter.

"Yeah, boss. I'm just, uh… giggling a bit these days" Tony quickly said. Gibbs gaped at him.

"You giggle like a little girl, DiNozzo?" Gibbs asked provocatively. Tony nodded.

"Yeah, uh, I'm just… Rehearsing for a play I'm going to be in" He replied. Gibbs looked at him strangely.

"Really?" He asked sarcastically. Tony nodded quickly.

"Uh, yeah. I'm playing a-" Tony started, but was cut off by Gibbs.

"Okay, I really don't want to know" He said. He walked back to his car. Tony looked at Kate angrily.

"You double owe me" He hissed. Kate chuckled.

"Sorry" She said.

"You know, by doing this, you're messing with your reputation too" Tony said. Kate stopped laughing.

"What do you mean?" Kate asked.

"I mean, Gibbs is gonna think we had … you know" Tony answered. Kate burst out in laughing.

"Hey, it's not funny! He'll fire us!" Tony said. Kate went pale.

"You're right. Sorry" She apologized. He grinned.

"Now who's scared?" He teased. Kate hit him in the arm playfully.

"You can let the baby breathe now" Kate acknowledged. Tony uncovered the baby.

Kate noticed Gibbs started driving. She followed his car.

…

They arrived at the crime scene.

"Oh, God!" Kate said as she covered her mouth in shock. She was looking at a building.

Not just any building. This one was burnt down to the ground.

It was also the building in which Kate's sister's party was held in last night.

"What's wrong?" Tony stood next to her. Kate shook her head.

"Rachel!" Kate yelled. She ran to the building.

"Kate!" Tony exclaimed. Gibbs appeared.

"What the hell does she think she is doing?" Gibbs asked.

"I think she thinks her sister died in the fire or whatever happened here" Tony replied.

"Go get her before she does anything stupid" Gibbs ordered. Tony nodded. He ran after Kate.

"Kate, wait!" Tony yelled. He ran after her, while the baby was bouncing on his chest. It started crying.

Kate ripped the yellow band in front of the building.

"Hey, miss! You can't pass unless authorized!" A police officer said to Kate. She glared angrily at him.

She showed him her badge.

"Special Agent Caitlin Todd, NCIS" Kate replied. The police officer went silent.

"Does that count?" Kate asked angrily.

"Uh, what do you need?" He calmed down.

"My sister was in there!" Kate started crying.

"Hold on, miss. There were survivors. Your sister might be one of them" He tried to soothe her. Kate wiped a tear off.

"Really?" She asked. He nodded.

"Just give me the name" He requested.

"Sure. Uh, Rachel Cranston" Kate answered. He nodded as he wrote the name on a piece of paper.

"Was she in her forties, light brown hair?" He questioned. Kate nodded hopefully. He smiled.

"It's okay, miss. She's right over there, on a gurney. She's getting checked out by a paramedic" He touched her shoulder. She smiled.

"Thank you so much" She thanked him. She walked away. Another police officer approached the first one.

"What was that all about?" He asked. The first one shrugged.

"NCIS agent. She thought her sister died in the fire" He said. The other one nodded.

Tony finally got to Kate.

"God, Kate…What the hell?" Tony was panting. Kate looked at him.

"Sorry, but I thought Rachel died" Kate explained. Tony looked at her strangely.

"Why would you think that?" Tony asked. Kate sighed.

"Because, this was the building in which Rachel had the party" Kate replied. Tony scratched his head.

"Oh, I didn't know. Sorry" He apologized. Kate smiled as she shook her head.

"No need to. I'll go check up on her. You wait for me right here" Kate said. The baby produced a sound. Tony looked down.

"Aren't you adorable?" Kate said to the baby. It laughed satisfyingly. Kate smiled. She walked over to her sister.

" Rachel!" Kate yelled as she saw her sister hopping off a gurney. Rachel smiled.

"Kate!" She cried. They hugged.

"I thought you were dead" Kate whispered.

"Yeah, I thought I'd be dead too" Rachel said. Kate chuckled. She let go of her sister.

"What happened?" Kate asked. Rachel cocked her head.

"I don't really remember. I only remember some people going in, and a big explosion, and people screaming and running. I passed out, and I only remember being dragged out by the firefighters" Rachel explained. Kate nodded.

"Terrorists" Kate whispered while shaking her head.

"Yeah, the police think those were terrorists too" Rachel said. Kate hugged her once more.

"I was so scared" Kate whispered.

"Don't worry. I'll always be there, sis" Rachel said. Kate smiled. She separated from her sister.

"I've got work to do" Kate gestured behind her back. Rachel could see her coworkers in the distance.

"Okay, I'll see you later" She replied. Kate smiled as she turned back to her coworkers. She approached them all.

Tony followed her.

"Kate, photos, Tony, sketch-"Gibbs started before he turned around. He saw Tony with a baby hanging on his chest.

He stared at the baby for a while, making Tony and Kate sweat.

"Kate. DiNozzo" Gibbs calmly said. "Got anything to share with me?"

"No, not really, boss" Tony replied. Gibbs sighed with his eyes closed. He opened them again.

"Then, could you please explain why there is a baby stuck on Tony's chest?" He pointed to the baby frantically. Kate and Tony laughed nervously.

"Well, Gibbs, you see, that's my sister's baby" Kate explained. Gibbs glared at her.

"And what the hell is she doing in your arms?" He raised his voice.

"Well, Rachel didn't answer her phone, and we couldn't possibly just leave the baby on its own at my place" Kate continued.

"Okay. Just, give the woman the damn baby, please!" Gibbs ordered to Tony. He nodded and marched away to Kate's sister.

Gibbs glanced at Kate, but soon got back to his conversation with Ducky.

"Are there any bodies, Duck?" Gibbs asked. Ducky shrugged.

"Well, only a small amount of them hasn't been burnt along with the explosion. But, you should know that the ones left are in a very bad condition" Ducky explained. Gibbs nodded.

"What do you think happened?" Gibbs asked. Ducky sighed.

"To me, Jethro, this sure wasn't an accident" He said. Gibbs shook his head.

"Terrorist attack?" Gibbs questioned.

"Most likely to be one. You are the Special Agent, Jethro. It's on you to decide" Ducky replied. Gibbs looked at him.

"Mass murder, that's for sure" Gibbs said as he looked at the building.

"Perhaps execution style. It could be possible they had a target" Ducky added. Gibbs cocked his head.

"Sorry I'm late. Had some sort of morning sickness" A female voice said. Gibbs turned around. He faced Ziva.

"No problem. Sure everything's okay?" Gibbs asked. She nodded.

"Must've eaten something bad" She shrugged. Gibbs smiled.

"Go help out Kate" He gestured to Kate, who was taking photos of everything. Ziva nodded and walked up to Kate.

"Need some help?" She asked. Kate quickly spun around, where she saw Ziva. She smiled lightly.

"Oh, hey there. No, thanks. But you can do some work so Gibbs wouldn't kill you" Kate replied. Ziva shrugged.

"If someone's gonna kill someone, it's gonna be me killing him" Ziva said. Kate laughed.

"Good to know" Kate responded. Ziva started taking photos too.

"Hey, girls!" Tony said. Kate looked up, smiling.

"Where's the baby?" Kate asked.

"Oh, gave it back to Rachel" Tony replied. Kate nodded.

"Good" She smiled. Ziva stared at the two of them.

"Uh, not our baby, it's my sister's and… It's a really long story" Kate tried to explain. Tony chuckled. She shot him a long glare. Ziva laughed.

"Okay…" Ziva said. She continued taking photos. Suddenly, she put the camera down. Kate and Tony looked at her.

"Everything okay?" Kate asked. Ziva put her hand on her stomach.

"I feel sick" Ziva whispered.

"Like, you're gonna puke?" Tony questioned. Ziva nodded. Ducky approached them.

"What's going on?" Ducky politely asked, noticing Ziva's pale face.

"Uh, Ducky, Ziva's not feeling so well. Could you help her out?" Tony said to Ducky. He smiled.

"That is no problem. What's wrong, my dear?"Ducky turned to Ziva.

"My stomach hurts, and I feel like I'm going to barf" Ziva explained. Ducky nodded with a sigh.

"Well, I can take you to NCIS, so I could check up on you in the autopsy" Ducky suggested.

"Yes, that could help" Ziva said. She and Ducky soon walked away.

"What do you think?" Tony asked. Kate looked at him.

"What do you mean?" Kate replied. Tony shrugged.

"The Ziva thing" Tony said.

"I don't know. It kinda seems like she's sick" Kate proposed. Tony cocked his head.

"Maybe she's pregnant" Tony said. Kate stared at him.

"What?" Tony defended himself. Kate thought about it for a while.

"Yeah, that's the worst scenario" She muttered. Gibbs appeared.

"Did you finish the photos and sketches?" Gibbs asked. Both Tony and Kate nodded.

"Good. No bodies for the autopsy, so, we're driving back to NCIS" Gibbs acknowledged.

"Wait, what are we going to work with? We've got no forensic evidence, no suspects" Tony stopped him.

"Yeah. There are only about two or three witnesses, including my sister as one of them" Kate added. Gibbs turned around.

"We'll work with what we have. You two are going to find me the list of invited people, including those who weren't invited" Gibbs shrugged. He turned back to the NCIS van. Kate sighed.

"Great. How are we gonna do that?" Kate muttered. Just as Tony opened his mouth to say something, Gibbs turned back to them again.

"Have you seen Ducky, Palmer and Ziva? They can't seem to be anywhere" Gibbs asked.

"Uh, Ziva wasn't feeling well, so Ducky took her back to NCIS to check up on her" Tony explained. Gibbs nodded slowly.

"Okay. Get into your cars. We're going back" Gibbs ordered. Tony and Kate sat in Kate's car again.

…

At the NCIS building 20 minutes later…

Kate dropped her gear on the floor, next to her desk. Tony sat at his desk. Abby just came out of the elevator.

"You guys won't believe what just happened!" Abby yelled frantically. She looked really upset.

"I've got no time for this" Gibbs said. He got up and walked away.

"Well, he's missing the big news" Abby murmured.

"What is it, Abbs?" Tony asked. Abby shook her head.

"Ducky asked me to run some urine and blood tests. They were all Ziva's" Abby explained.

"So?" Kate asked. Abby sighed.

"Well, turns out Ziva is positive" Abby said. Tony looked at Kate confusedly.

"What's that supposed to mean?" Tony asked. Abby and Kate shared a concerned glance.

"She's pregnant, Tony" Kate said. Tony's jaw dropped.

"And it's definitely not Gerald's" Abby added.

AN: Hehhe, lots of drama! :) Sorry, this chapter was a bit fixated on Ziva. Promise next ones will be more Tate and so far. :) Oooh, and more Jenny and Jibbs! :D
