Thank you so much to: Savvy0417, Dovewing30, TheHedgieMaster, ToxicWolf1132, TheLastoftheRealOnes, The High School Hero, Kosma Bandra, misteria247 and Lamarana! Thank you! I loved your reviews - they mean the world to me! :D
Savvy0417 - Thank you very much!
Dovewing30 - Aw, thank you! Haha, this story was very much inspired by that movie, haha! I love that film!
TheHedgieMaster - Aw, as much as I'd absolutely love to do some reverse psychology on these two, I'm afraid it's not going to be a Sonamy story, as I'm mainly focusing on the humour for this one! Thank you!
ToxicWolf1132 - Thank you ever so much! :D
TheLastoftheRealOnes - Awhhhhh, thank you! :3
The High School Hero - Freaky Friday is awesome! Haha! Don't worry — Amy-Sonic's reaction will be golden, I assure you! Ooh, too many stories to juggle, lemme tell you! xD
Kosma Bandra - Thank you so much!
misteria247 - Thank you! I'm really glad you're enjoying it!
Lamarana - That is such a lovely comment — it's honestly stuck with me all day, I'm so grateful for your kind words. I'm especially thankful for you sticking with the story, despite not being too enamoured with the premise. I'm so glad that it paid off and that you enjoyed this story. Thank you! :3
I was inspired by 'The Shining Road' for this chapter, the song at the end of the Japanese Sonic X. It's an amazing song!
Warning: this story will have mild Sonamy. There will be flirting, and a bit of fluff, but it won't end in them getting together. I know, I know, I'm sad too, but this is mainly a comedy, rather than a romance.
Chapter Two: Sonic Vs Amy
(Amy)
My screams could have been heard from miles away.
I should have known that something was up, when I woke up and found myself lying on a roof. I definitely hadn't fallen asleep there. I could remember feeling annoyed with Sonic, as I'd flopped into bed. Not climbing onto a roof.
However, I'd smiled at the bright, sunny skyline and clambered to my feet. I felt... different. My body seemed a bit lighter and speedier. It was strange.
I glanced down at my torso, to brush off any dust from the roof. That was when I started screaming.
My body was a familiar shade of blue.
Had someone dyed me in the middle of the night? Why wasn't I wearing any clothes? Why was I wearing red sneakers?!
I looked to my right and saw a window on the roof. It was propped open with a metal stand, so I climbed down through it and dropped into the room below. This was definitely not my house.
It looked like Sonic's room.
I raced over to the mirror on the wall, fearing the worst — but I was right. There before me, in the mirror, was Sonic. I gasped and the reflection of my crush did the same. I placed a hand on my cheek, watching as the blue hedgehog reached up and touched his cheek too. This was really weird. How had this happened?
I couldn't really comprehend that I was now — somehow — in Sonic's body. And where was Sonic? Was he in my body?!
"Sonic?"
I spun around, noticing Tails staring at me. I wasn't sure what to say. I couldn't just blurt out that I wasn't really Sonic — that would be crazy! It looked like I'd have to just play along for now.
"Hey, b-buddy," I deepened my voice, trying to imitate Sonic, even if I did have his voice, "W-What's up?"
"I heard a scream," Tails looked worried, "Are you alright?"
"U-Um, just great! Never better!" I racked my brain for a phrase that Sonic would usually say, but I just couldn't think of one, "T-That's the power of teamwork!"
"Huh?" Tails frowned, walking towards me, "Are you feeling ill, Sonic?"
"Nope!" I zoomed around him, moving faster than I usually did. I guessed that I'd gotten Sonic's speed as well, "I'm fine! I just need some fresh air! And I need to go and see Amy!"
I raced out of the room, only just hearing Tails faintly mutter, "Why do you need to see Amy—?"
I needed to find Sonic, and fast. Maybe now was a good time to see if I really did have Sonic's speed...
(Sonic)
This was way past weird. It was on a whole new level of weird.
After getting dressed — with my eyes firmly shut to keep Amy's privacy — in the usual red dress, I ran downstairs to get something to eat, and see if I could find a clue to how this had happened. And how I could change it back.
I missed my body. And, even worse, I didn't have my speed anymore. I could only move at an average pace. Luckily for me, Amy had always been a fairly fast runner, but it was nothing compared to what I was used to. This sucked.
I flopped onto Amy's couch and sighed. What could I do? Everything else seemed the same — except for the fact that I was trapped inside my friend's body.
Amy would know what to do. But I had no idea where she was.
This wasn't like anything I'd ever faced before. It wasn't as if I had to travel to Eggman's lair and fight his robots for a cure. At least, I didn't think Eggman was behind this.
Suddenly, the phone rang. I leapt towards it, wondering if it was Amy, or someone who could help me out of this situation.
No such luck. It was Cream.
"Hi, Amy!" She sang, pausing for me to respond. I swallowed, nervously. What should I say? Oh, hey, Cream. Sorry, Ames isn't here right now, 'cause I'm trapped inside of her body and I haven't a clue where she is. Oh, by the way, this is Sonic speaking!
She'd think I was crazy. I guess I'd have to go along with it.
"H-Hey, Cream!" I called, instantly putting on a female voice. I cursed myself when I remember that I had Amy's voice, so there was no need.
"Are you alright? Your voice sounds... different."
"I'm fine! Just a... cold! Yeah, a cold!"
"Oh, okay! Well, I just called to tell you that Mr Sonic is looking for you!"
My eyes widened. I was looking for... me? Or, more importantly, maybe Amy was looking for me, "Where did you see her? I mean me. Agh! I mean him!"
"Um, down by Station Square. He was looking rather worried and asked me where you were. I said that you were at your house and he dashed off. He was running rather weirdly. Like he couldn't control his speed. Do you think he's okay?"
It looked like being me wasn't as easy as Amy had planned. I couldn't help but feel an air of smugness wash over me, "I'm sure she's— I mean, he's fine! You know Sonic!"
"Yes," Cream sounded unsure, "Um, are we still hanging out today?"
Well. Could I manage to spend time with Cream and convince her that I was Amy? I mean, all I had to do was talk about Sonic. You know, myself. It shouldn't have been that hard. I wanted to show Amy that I could manage to live her life, easily, "Yep! If you're up for it!"
"Yes, of course! Do you want to come around at one?"
"Sure thing!" The doorbell rang, breaking my attention away from Cream, "Sorry, someone's at the door! Maybe it's Amy. Uh, Sonic! Gotta speed, G!"
"Isn't that something which Mr Sonic says?"
"Um, maybe. See ya at your house, Cream!" I hung up, jumping over the couch and skidding to the door. When I pulled it open, I wasn't sure how to react.
"Okay, this joke is no longer funny!" I stepped out of the way as a blue hedgehog stormed into the room. It was me.
"Ames!" I cried, feeling a grin spread across my face, "You're here! You're really, truly here!"
"Of course I'm here. I'm here to tell you to switch us back!" She growled, "I give up, okay? You win! Now switch us back and tell Tails to give me my body back!"
"What the heck are you on about?"
She sighed, "You. Trying to show me that your life is harder than mine. Tails probably built a machine or something that switches bodies! Now, please, I want my body back!"
"I didn't do this!" I closed the door as she placed herself on the couch, elegantly. It was weird. I threw myself onto the sofa too, and there I was, watching myself sit with elegance and poise, "I'm just as confused as you are!"
"Great," Amy seethed, folding her arms, "What do we do?"
"I dunno," I sat beside her, "Only yesterday, we were saying that we could easily live each other's lives."
A light sparked in her eyes, "Well, if we're going to be stuck like this, why don't we put it to the test?"
My mouth dropped open, "What?"
"You. Try to live my life, while I try to live your life. That way, we can settle this argument."
"No," I stood up, "No way. I'm not going to walk around and pretend to be you! That's weird and wrong!"
"No one would know!" Amy smirked, "Unless you're too scared."
I frowned, "I never said that."
"So, it's a deal?" She held out her hand, waiting for me to shake it. I rolled my eyes, then gripped her hand.
"You're on! And there is no way I'm gonna lose."
"Likewise," She reluctantly let go of my hand and folded her arms, "Now, what have you got to do today?"
I pondered her question, "Nothing much. You've gotta be on hand to stop Eggman, hang out with Tails and... oh yeah! Knuckles challenged me to a fight today! But it should be fine for you, since you're so confident!"
"I've got to beat Knuckles in a fight?!" Amy shrieked, "I can't do that!"
My grin was smug, "Why not? My life too hard for ya?"
She glared at me, "So not. It'll be easy."
"Sure it will," There was no way that she would find my life easy. But the downside for me was that I was going to lose to Knuckles. And he wasn't going to let that go, "So, whadda I have to do?"
"Hmm..." A smirk appeared on my lips. Her lips. Gah! "You need to tidy up the place—"
"Or wait until we get switched back, so you can do it," I muttered.
"—Head 'round to Cream's, go shopping with Rouge and show Shadow how to fight with my hammer. He was curious, so I said I'd show him," Amy was enjoying this way too much.
"But I've never used your hammer before in my life!"
"Struggling?"
"You wish!"
"Oh and, to make it realistic, you should probably make an excuse to come and chase after me."
My eyes nearly popped out of their sockets, "What?! I am not doing that!"
"Why? It's a part of my life! You should be able to do it, right?"
"Grr..."
"I'll take that as a yes, or else I win."
"Alright, Ames. You wanna play dirty? Fine by me. Just have fun dealing with Knuckles' gloating when you lose."
"Who said I'm gonna lose?" Amy pouted, which looked odd on my body.
"Whatever," With a shake of my head, I sighed, "So, how do I summon this hammer then?"
"Well, I'm in-tune with it, so I can summon it whenever I want. But you should be able to summon it when you're angry, stressed or threatened. It responds to emotion."
Well, that solved that mystery, "Okay. So make me mad."
"What?" She looked confused.
"I need to see how this hammer works. So make me angry."
"How?"
"I dunno. Slap me."
"S-Slap you?"
"Yeah. Didn't you hear me? Slap me."
"I... c-can't."
I frowned, "Why?"
"You of all people should know why I can't slap you!" I'd never seen such exasperation on her face. Oh, right. The whole love thing.
"Fine..." It looked like I was going to have to take matters into my own hands. I was really not looking forward to what was coming next.
"Amy, I hate to tell you this... but your clothes look awful, your personality makes Eggman look nice, everyone thinks you're an obsessive fan-girl, and the way you hug and chase me really sets me on edge! Don't you think you should stop being so cling and get a life at some point?"
Slap!
"Ow!" I winced, rubbing my cheek, "You didn't have to hit me so hard!"
"You're the one who started it!" She yelled, infuriated, "How dare you be so mean, Sonic the Hedgehog!"
"I'm sorry! I don't really think those things! I only did it so you'd slap me, I'd be angry and could summon the hammer!"
"Oh really?" Amy clenched her fists and ground her foot into the carpet, "Because you have a habit of doing this kind of thing to me!"
"I... What?" I was shocked. I'd never spoken to her like that before! I'd only done it then for a specific reason.
"You're always a jerk to me! Everyone says so!"
"How can you say that? I'm not a jerk!"
Suddenly, Amy's hammer appeared in my hand, and it took all my stretch not to get pulled to the ground by it. I groaned, as I struggled to hold it up, as Amy giggled, losing all her rage in the blink of an eye.
"Oh, Sonic!" She gushed, "It's so easy to make you angry!"
"Thanks for your concern," I grumbled.
Swiftly, she swiped the hammer out of my hand and held it in the air, as if it were as light as a wooden spoon. I was struggling to hold that thing up! How had she done that?!
"Practice!" Amy said, grinning at my shocked expression, "Don't worry, Sonic. I'll teach you how to get this strong. If you take me out on a date, some day!"
"No way," I rolled my eyes, "At this rate, though, you might have to take me out on a date."
Amy giggled, "We'll switch back. Tails will think of something."
"You told him?"
"Well... not exactly. He thought I was you. So I went along with it."
"Same. Cream called and asked you... well, me, to hang out with her. I said yeah, 'cause she probably wouldn't believe me if I told her the truth."
"It looks like we're going to have to figure this one out ourselves," She suddenly smirked, "Now, haven't you got a shopping trip to get ready for?"
"Haven't you got a fight to prepare for?"
Sticking out her tongue at me, Amy turned on her heel and left through the front door. It looked like we'd have to fix this on our own. I just hoped that we'd find the answer before I was due to go shopping with Rouge.
Ugh. Even thinking about it made me break out in a cold sweat.
