Hazel The Rabbit - Awh, thank you very much! :D
scythe's serenade - That's soo nice, thank you!
Remiattane - That's so amazing to hear; I really appreciate it!
TheLastoftheRealOnes - Hahaah, ah, I'm glad! At the moment, no, Sonic and Amy are going to keep the situation to themselves, but who knows what might happen in the future! :D
ghostdolly - Awww, don't, you're getting me all teared up :') Thank you!
ShadowsAngel1 - Thanks! :D
Thegorgeousempress - Thank you so much!
Spaz411 - Gaahhhh, thank you! :DD
ToxicWolf1132 - Bahahaahaha XD
Guest - It means the world to me to hear that, thank you!
Dovewing30 - I'm really glad you like it, and I certainly hope so, haha!
Gamyie - This review is honestly one of the kinds that I love — I love hearing when people like my stories, but when I've managed to defy people's expectations? That's a different style of awesome. I am a strong advocate of 'cliché not being bad' and the fact that I've managed to take a (absolutely) cliché plot and turn it into something enjoyable? That's so cool. So, thank you ever so much for taking the time to review, it really made my day. And I completely agree with you about Sonic's dialogue — I'm rectifying that as I edit! :D
Chapter Three: Kisses and Lies
(Amy)
Determined, I sped back to Tails' workshop. Sonic wasn't going to win this bet. But, in a way, I was sort of enjoying spending time with him. Even if I was in his body.
To my surprise, when I returned, Knuckles and Tails were lounging on the couch. They raised their eyebrows at me, when I gawped at them.
"Hey, Sonic!" Tails beamed, gesturing at me to sit next to him. I placed myself down, sitting up straight as I usually did. They gave me a bit of a weird glance.
"So. How'd it go with Amy?" Knuckles smirked, suggestively.
I held in a frown, "She was fine. Looking very... good."
"Oooh!" The echidna sang, "She's looking good? 'Something you wanna tell us, Sonic?"
Tails laughed, "Have you realised that you have feelings for Amy?"
An idea suddenly struck me.
No, I couldn't. Could I? Sonic would kill me. But, maybe this would strengthen our relationship. Maybe he'd come to realise his feelings for me!
I smirked, "As a matter of fact, Knuckles..."
(Sonic)
I was right. Amy's life was easy.
After wolfing down a bowl of cereal — a sad change from a chilidog — I relaxed and watched TV. Sure, I was meant to be practicing lifting Amy's hammer, but... well, I never knew that there were some good shows on the telly.
Alright, I just really didn't want to be humiliated. I couldn't lift it, no matter how hard I tried. Yet, Amy could. I hated being weak by comparison.
So I sat down and watched TV, which I thought was quite a fun way to spend a morning. However, before I knew it, it was nearly one.
"Crap," I muttered, forcing myself off the couch and slouching towards the door. Oh well! I'd get there in no time. All I had to do was run and—
Oh. No super speed. Bummer.
"Oh well," I said to myself, "I'll walk. It'll be slower, sure, but it should be fun."
How could anyone stand being this slow?!
It had taken me half an hour to walk a route which I'd cleared in ten seconds, before. Walking was boring. When I'd tried to run, I quickly got out of breath and people started staring. When I finally did arrive at Cream's, I didn't think that I had the motivation to pretend to be Amy.
"Hello!" Cream smiled when she opened the door, ushering me inside. I'd been to her house a couple of times before, so luckily I knew my way around. That was a start.
"Hey, Cream!" I grinned back, heading into the living room and plopping myself onto the couch. When I glanced up at her, Cream was staring at me, confused.
"Um, Amy?" She clasped her hands over the front of her dress, "Weren't we going to start the planting today? You said yesterday that you really wanted to get it done."
"Planting?" I frowned, "Like, gardening? So, mowing the lawn and raking leaves?"
"No, silly!" Cream giggled, "Planting flowers and painting the pots for them to go in! Don't you remember?"
Sheepishly, I smiled, "'Can't say I do."
"You said it would be a good idea if we planted flowers in flowerpots so that we can give them to people as gifts! Especially since Mr Sonic's birthday is coming up!" Excitedly, Cream grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the back door.
Whoops. I might have just discovered Amy's gift for my birthday. It was a sweet thought, though, and it was the thought that counted.
Gardening, huh? How hard could it be?
(Amy)
"I can't believe you never told me this!" Tails huffed, "You have a crush on Amy?!"
I beamed, proudly. Okay, I knew that Sonic was going to be furious at me when he found out, but... maybe he'd come to feel the same way, "Yep! My deep and dark secret."
"What made you decide to tell us?" Knuckles asked, folding his arms, "I mean, we all knew you liked her, but you always denied it so passionately."
I shrugged, "Just did. After seeing her today, I've come to accept that I love her."
Their mouths dropped open.
"You love her?" Knuckles gaped.
"Yeah, so what?"
He stroked his chin, "No reason. S'just a very strong way of putting it. You sure it's not just a crush, or...?"
"Nope!" I leapt up, combing Sonic's (my?) quills with my hands, "It's love! She's just amazing, don't cha think?"
"Well, I guess. I mean, she's Amy," Tails stared at me as if the cogs were slowly clinking around in his brain.
I broke away from his gaze, feeling nervous, "Yeah, but she's more than that. She's... gorgeous, inspirational, cute, funny-"
"Okay, lover-boy!" Knuckles yelled, "We get the picture. And shouldn't you be telling Amy this? I know she'd kill us, if she found out we kept this a secret."
Pausing, I realised that I hadn't thought of that, "Oh... you know. Just shyness. I don't feel ready for a relationship, just yet. But I'll tell her as soon as I'm ready! You know, like, as soon as I wake up on the day that I'm ready — I'm gonna run over there and tell her I love her! We'll never be apart!"
Shooting sly glances at each other, Tails and Knuckles had suspicious expressions on their faces. I gulped.
"That sounds an awful lot like something Amy would say," Tails slowly said, looking at me. I started to sweat. Oh no, he knew, didn't he?
"Yeah... Has she brainwashed you or something? I mean, it wouldn't be a surprise! She's that crazy," Knuckles smirked.
I stomped my foot and growled at the echidna, "I beg your pardon?!"
He snickered, knowingly, "Settle down, Romeo. I was only joking!"
"Good," I pouted, throwing my hands onto my hips and heading towards the front door, "'Cause if I had to choose between the world and Son— I mean, Amy! I would choose Amy!"
"That also sounded like something Amy would say..." Tails mumbled to himself.
Taking no notice, Knuckles was shaking his head at my comment, "What has happened to Sonic the Hedgehog?"
I charged towards the door and, just as I placed my hand on the handle, Knuckles called out to me:
"Hey, Sonic! If you're not too busy dreaming about Amy, are we still on for that battle? Or are you too chicken?"
Confident, I turned and grinned at him, "Oh, I'm gonna be there. And I'm gonna win. You can count on that!"
(Sonic)
I sighed, glancing at Cream's perfectly poised flower, and then looked back at my own. Its head was drooping in shame and despair, "I suck at gardening."
"No, you don't!" Cream leant over to analyse my flower. Then she paused, "Oh..."
"Aw, well," I grinned, reclining back and resting on the grass. We were outside, in Cream's back garden. She was sitting, cross-legged, whilst I stared up at the beautiful blue sky.
"You seem different today, Amy," Cream observed, patting soil into the ceramic pot, which had clouds painted around the sides, "You seem relaxed, at times like now, but... nervous, whenever someone talks to you."
"You know me," I winked, "Never a dull moment!"
Cream laughed, appreciatively, "For some reason, you remind me of Mr Sonic!"
I hummed in thought, tapping my fingers on the ground, "Oh, well. I guess his personality would rub off on me, since I spend a lot of time with him."
"But you were upset, the other day, because you said you don't spend much time with him."
Oh, man. At this rate, I would end up contradicting myself in every way possible. I missed my carefree conversations with Tails and Knuckles. Girls were complicated.
"Uhhh. I guess I'm just hoping that I'll spend time with Sonic. Yeah," I muttered, wondering if I'd pulled it off.
"So," Cream set her trowel down on the ground and stared at me, with her big innocent eyes, "What is it that you like about Mr Sonic the most?"
Well, this was awkward. What if Amy had spoken to her about this before, and I have the wrong answer? Cream would know that something was up. Come on, Sonic! What's your favourite personality trait? Or favourite feature? It's not a hard question!
Then again, maybe I should have been thinking about what Amy would say. What answer was I meant to give? Mine, or Amy's?
"The thing I like most about Sonic..." I paused, "...is his heroic nature."
"Oh?"
"Yeah. He always tries to put others before himself. I like that about him. It makes him..." This was so boastful. I was glad that Cream didn't know I was talking about myself, "...it makes him cuter."
"Tee hee!" Cream swooned, "That's so sweet! Mr Sonic is lucky to have a girl like you, Amy! I'm sure, in time, he'll come to see how amazing you are! Until he learns to stop being so mean and stop running away from you."
"Hey! I'm not mean!"
"W-What?"
I suddenly realised what I had just said, "Uh. I mean, Sonic's not that mean. Just a bit. But you're right. He should slow down."
"Oh, okay."
If I wasn't already a shade of pink, I'd definitely be blushing. I missed my blue quills. Though, I wouldn't be without them for too long.
"Sonic!" A voice called out from inside the house. A male voice. My voice. I sat up to find Amy in my body, giving me an almighty glare.
"Mr Sonic, why are you shouting your name?" Cream asked with a frown. I smirked, wondering how Amy was going to get out of this one.
She gulped, "I was going to say Sonic... is here! Yeah, just, you know, announcing my arrival!"
"Ah. What's the matter, Mr Sonic?"
"I need to speak to Amy, urgently. You know how things are."
"No?" I folded my arms, enjoying this way too much, "How are things? Please elaborate."
She shot me a warning look, "They're... hectic. So I need to speak to Amy. Now. Alone."
With a sigh, I clambered up from my relaxed position. Cream gave me a small thumbs up and mouthed good luck!
Jeez.
(Amy)
I couldn't believe that Sonic was just lazing about! In my body! He'd already messed up my quills and he was going to make me look like a fool in front of Shadow the Hedgehog!
"What are you doing?!" I hissed, grabbing Sonic by the wrist and hauling him into Cream's living room. He tugged his arm away and pouted as I glared at him.
He smirked, "Hanging out with Cream? You know, like you do all the time? I'm finding it's actually pretty easy!"
I growled, "Watch it, Hedgehog."
"Why so glum, chum?" He playfully pinched my cheek, "Having trouble containing Knuckles' energy? Struggling to understand Tails' geek talk?"
Deviously, I grinned when I remembered what I'd told Knuckles and Tails, "Oh, I'm fine. I just wanted to know if you've practiced for Shadow's training?"
His smile vanished, "Uh, well, you see... I kinda got distracted and—"
"Sonic!"
"Cool it, Ames," He winked, "I'll sort it! Shadow'll have the best teacher on Mobius!"
"Can the teacher even carry the weapon?"
"In time."
"You'd better hurry up and learn!" I warned, "'Cause my reputation is riding on this!"
"Speaking of which, how's your training coming on?"
Nervously, I swallowed, "I'm going to practice after lunch."
"Good, good."
"Sonic?"
"Yeah?"
"How exactly do you fight?"
He snickered, "What do you mean? I kick. Punch. Spin-dash."
"Yeah, I know, but how do you spin-dash?"
"I've got to get back to Cream~!" With a smug smile, he started strolling away. I stifled a yelp, instead zooming after him and hugging his torso. My torso, I suppose.
"Come on, Sonic! Please! I don't want to get hurt!" I begged.
His expression quickly turned sympathetic, "Okay. I'll teach you after I've gone shopping with Rouge. The fight isn't until five. Agh, shopping. By the way, when is lunch?"
"You'll probably get some with Rouge," I shrugged, "Sometimes I go without."
"You go without food?!" His eyes were popping out of his sockets. Wincing, I reminded myself to never look as shocked as that. It wasn't a good look.
"Yeah, I manage. 'Guess you'll have to manage too."
He grumbled, annoyed, as I chuckled. I pulled my arms around his waist again, squeezing tighter, "Thanks, Sonic."
He let out a nervous laugh, "Any time, Ames."
As a gust of wind tickled my ears, I heard the roar of a group of engines, while I continued to hug Sonic. A cackle of gloating laughter filled the air. Reluctantly, I let go of Sonic and turned to see who was laughing. Jet the Hawk was floating on his EX Gear, with Wave and Storm beside him.
"Well, well, Sonic the Hedgehog," Jet smirked, "I guess you're slow enough for relationships. Lame."
"He's not slow enough for relationships!" Sonic yelled back, gritting his teeth, "Why don't you take a hike, Jet? You really pick the worst times to show up."
"Shut it, Girly!" He snapped, "Let the races have their fun, whilst you go and watch."
"You can't speak to people like that!" Sonic was clearly irritated.
Jet turned to me, "Need your girlfriend to speak up for you, Sonic?"
"I'm not his girlfriend!" Sonic blushed.
The green hawk looked incredibly confused, "I thought you loved him, or somethin'?"
When Sonic sighed and rolled his eyes, I shot him a warning glare. What the heck was he playing at? Sure, maybe I did want to hear him say he loved me — even if he was saying it for Jet — but we needed to stay in character. Still, my heart was thumping in my chest at lightning speed. He still sent my head into a spin, even if he was in my body.
"Y-Yes... I do love her. Him! Him. Of course I do. He's..." Sonic sighed, "...My Sonic."
I beamed, struggling to hold in my excitement. The Babylon Rogues were giving me odd looks. Luckily for me, they hadn't spent enough time with us to know that Sonic wasn't as open about his feelings as I was.
"That's great!" I cried, pulling Sonic into my arms, "Because I love you too, Amy!"
Jet's eyes nearly popped from exertion, "Wait? What?!"
"Yep!" Sonic was wriggling against my grip, but I held him tighter, "I love you, Amy Rose."
"No, you don't!" Sonic hissed.
"I do! I love you! That's your dream come true, right?"
"Ahh..." Sonic gulped, as Jet, Wave and Storm waited for him to respond, "Well... I just think you must be feeling a lil' ill, Sonic. Maybe you should lie down?"
I dropped to my knees, dramatically begging to Sonic and making my expression distraught and upset, "Oh, Amy! Why won't you love me as much as I love you?"
"Wh—?!" Sonic was really panicking now, "I... um, do. 'Cause I'm Amy Rose. I... love you too, Sonic."
His words were said in a mumble, but Jet's eyes gleamed in satisfaction as soon as he heard that.
"Ha, ha!" Jet leapt on top of his board, smirking at me, "I guess you'll be too tied up in your girlfriend's affairs to be racing me! 'Guess I really am the fastest thing alive!"
"Dream on!" I challenged, "You'll never beat me, Jet."
"We'll see," He raced off with Wave and Storm hot on his heels. A hand grabbed my arm and I was faced with an unimpressed Sonic. So that was what I looked like when I was annoyed.
I laughed, feebly, "Sonic..."
"Amy Rose, you're impossible!"
"I love you too, Sonic," I quickly kissed his cheek, before I sped off into the distance, leaving Sonic with a shocked expression and a massive blush on his face.
Technically, Sonic the Hedgehog had just kissed me, Amy. And, vice versa, I'd kissed Sonic the Hedgehog.
Things were looking up.
