Hey Guys! Posting this now because I'm going out of town the rest of the week. I think I'll be able to post on time next week, but who knows. Thanks for your continued love and support! Don't forget to read and review!
Kagome thrashed against the hands on her. She couldn't see anything, but she opened her eyes wide, and hoped they would adjust. Her headphones popped out of her ears as a hand yanked back her hood. Her eyes were slowly adjusting and her attackers face was becoming clearer.
She looked at a man she never met before. Tall, handsome. Unassuming blond hair and piercing eyes. Even in the dark, when she could barely make out any thing else, his brown eyes were electric and piercing. She pushed against him again, but he held on to her by her upper arm, his grip painfully tight.
The longer she looked at him the weirder he looked. He was obviously way stronger than her, as he easily held her. She heard a voice behind her and spun to look. A man stood in entrance of the alley way. His hair was a cut short, jet black hair buzzed close to his skull. Kagome felt panic welling up inside of her.
The man stepped closer, his features foreign and oddly out of place in his suit. He was handsome, he looked like the kind of guy that should be playing the guitar, hair to his shoulders. Kagome stood up straight, twisting her face into what she hoped looked like smug indifference.
"Little girl, no need to pretend."
The man's voice was smooth and dark. Sultry even, as he slurred his sentence.
The man walked slowly up to Kagome. She was paralyzed with fear as the man circled her. He leaned close to Kagome and took a deep breath.
"I can smell your fear."
Kagome shuddered.
"I don't know why he picked you, you're scrawny."
The man holding Kagome laughed, "I don't know, I think shes kinda cute, in a harmless sort of way. You know, like a kitten."
Kagome was starting to get annoyed. She didn't know why these men felt the need to keep talking, but her blood was starting to boil.
I'm not harmless. I'm the High fucking Priestess.
The man leaned close to Kagome's face again, a smirk playing on his lips.
"Are you getting angry? She's turning red," The man laughed as he inspected her.
Kagome bit her tongue. She wouldn't give him the satisfaction. Kagome cocked back her right arm and punched the man square in the face.
She took him by surprise as he stumbled back, cradling his nose, blood leaking between his fingers. He recovered fast and slapped Kagome hard across her face.
This guy is child's play.
He was no where near as strong as her father had been and Kagome couldn't help but laugh.
"Is that all?" She knew she shouldn't provoke him, but she felt invincible. Maybe she had become physically stronger since awakening, or maybe these guys are really that weak. He pulled his hand back to punch her, and she dodged at the last second, turning into the guy whose iron grip on her arm had loosened. The blond man pushed her to the ground and kicked her in the stomach.
That hurt.
Kagome curled up in a ball. Her breath escaped her grasp, as she took shallow breaths trying to catch it. Peering through her hair at the two men who laughed together.
"I like it when they put up a fight, it makes it so much better for me. Let me go first."
The black haired man began pulling off his jacket and fumbling with his belt buckle. Kagome felt fear in the pit of her stomach. Kagome rolled on to her hands and knees, trying to stand up, but was kicked in the stomach so hard she might have actually gone airborne. Kagome collapsed under his weight. He violently turned her on to her back, his face hovering above hers.
I'm not letting this happen. Not without a fight.
He roughly grabbed her breast. Kagome spit in his face. He reared back to wipe her spit off his face. Kagome wiggled out of his grasp and scrambled to her feet.
She looked at him. He was sitting back on his knees, his pants around his ankles. Kagome hated him. Her body felt like it was on fire, hot lava pouring through her veins.
"What the fuck, man?" The guy on the ground scrambled to his feet, pulling up his pants quickly. His friend was already running. Kagome took a step toward the guy and he got up quickly taking a few steps backward before running off.
Though the threat was gone, she couldn't calm down. She could feel herself expelling energy, and she was almost fascinated by how much she had in her. Kagome was beginning to panic. She was having trouble thinking clearly, and felt the wind pick up around her, her breath that was floating in thick clouds being blown away before they barely escape her lips. Kagome felt herself grow light headed. She sat down against a building and pulled her legs to her chest and rested her forehead on her knees.
Kagome awoke in Sango's room. She sat up confused.
I don't even remember falling asleep.
Kagome could feel something was wrong. She got up quickly and left the room. She walked quickly down the short hall and into the living room. Kagome could feel the horror overtaking her face as she took in the scene in front of her.
Sango was on her knees, kneeling in front of the slimy bastard Sesshomaru kept as a butler. She watched as he backhanded Sango hard, causing her to fall over on the ground. Sango was silent. With tears streaming down her face, she slowly pushed herself back on to her knees and clenched her eyes tight as she waited for another. Kagome looked to Sesshomaru who looked on from his post on the wall. His was face blank, his eyes focused yet empty as he watched.
"Stop!"
The butler's hand cracked across Sango's face. Kagome's eyes flashed to Sesshomaru. He was staring at her.
"Continue."
Kagome flushed with rage.
"Stop it!"
She heard another slap.
Kagome tore her eyes from Sesshomaru and settled them on the cat demon currently beating her best friend.
Kagome addressed him instead.
"You will stop this."
He sneered at her, "I do not answer to you. I answer to Lord Sesshomaru."
His eyes were feral. His uniform dishevelled and his teeth bared.
"Well, he answers to me."
Bullshit.
Kagome was calling bullshit on herself. But she was livid. She leveled him with a look and kept talking.
"You answer to me. And I say put an end to this."
She was the most powerful, right?. Sesshomaru had told her himself. She was the High Priestess, and he needed her on his side to keep him on top. He needed her. Kagome suddenly felt very foolish. She shouldn't go around shooting off at the mouth based on what she thinks may or may not be true. But she puffed her chest out and waited, staring the demon down in hoped that he was buying it. She sure as hell wasn't.
Sesshomaru broke the silence.
"That is enough. You are dismissed."
Kagome breathed a mental sigh of relief, though she outwardly smirked as she watched the butler straighten his clothes and leave the apartment flustered.
Once the door closed behind him, Kagome pulled Sango into her arms.
"Are you okay?"
Sango remained silent.
Kagome helped her to stand.
"Sango, go tend to your wounds."
Sango stood up quickly and left the room.
Kagome watched her retreating form, before turning and glaring at Sesshomaru.
"What the fuck? How can you let that happen to her, why would you do that?"
"Have a seat Kagome,"
His voice was calm yet demanding, and Kagome found herself sinking into the sofa behind her.
"Sango tells me that you know of her subservient role to you."
"We decided to be equals."
"Hn."
She didn't like that response. Kagome felt her anger ebbing and uncertainty creeping in. Kagome waited for him to finish.
Her eyes followed him as he crossed to the kitchen and pulled a bottle of water from the fridge.
"Kagome, even if the President and Vice President of the US are best friends, are they equal? Even between brothers, if one becomes King are they still equal?"
Kagome wanted to answer yes. She felt tears prick her eyes, as she remained silent.
She watched him open the bottle of water, looking away right before he drank. She didn't like this at all.
"Can they ever be equal? Maybe they may have been once, but when one assumes a higher position the balance of power is shifted."
"Sango isn't my servant or bodygaurd. She's my best friend."
Pathetic. She knew it was pathetic, she knew it did nothing to refute Sesshomaru's point, but it was all she had.
"You can talk to her, and treat her however you feel, but she has to remember that she serves you. And it might benefit her if you remember that as well. Sango has been punished for your behavior."
What behavior? What did I do?
"I don't understand."
"You are not to go anywhere without protection, yet you left on your own. There are more than supernatural dangers to protect you from. As I'm sure you've become very aware of."
Part of the attack flashed through her mind.
"But why not punish me? It's my fault. Sango didn't even know I left."
Kagome raised her eyes to Sesshomaru's and flinched at the severity of his look. She felt as if he could see inside her, see the scared child she was. Her eyes were brimming with tears and she hated to show him her weakness. She blinked back the tears angrily and looked away.
"Because I answer to you, and it would serve me best never to forget that."
Kagome sat stunned. It was her fault. It was a domino effect. because she did something stupid and careless she made Sesshomaru take action, and do something he didn't want to do, to punish someone who was innocent. And if she continued doing whatever she wanted, Sango and the other people she cared about would continue to get hurt. She owed Sango so much. More than she would ever be able to provide her.
"How did I get back last night?" Kagome needed to change the subject.
Sesshomaru sat beside her, and she moved to give him more room.
"I found you and brought you here."
"I don't know what happened. These guys were trying to-" Kagome paused, her throat closing on the word,"-take advantage of me. And I got really angry. But then they just ran away."
"You're powers were flaring. That's how I knew where you were. You're going to have to learn control. Other demons besides myself can sense you when you do that, they will kill you without a second thought."
Kagome just nodded her head.
Sesshomaru place a hand on her knee. She felt like her whole body was on fire. The fire she felt blocked out her sadness and confusion. She let it lie there. She stared at where his hand rest on top of the dark fabric of her pants. His fingers were long, uncalloused as if he had never worked hard a day in his life. But the harder she looked the more intense the flames felt. She felt her face flushing and she looked away.
"I just wished I had been able to kill those guys." She meant it. Nothing was more disgusting than someone who would force themselves on another person.
"I did."
Kagome couldn't help the sadistic pleasure she felt.
"It was quick, they were just weak humans. When I found you, you were sleeping, unharmed."
Kagome didn't know what to say. She sat there, looking everywhere but at his hand on her leg.
"Thanks."
Sesshomaru said nothing. They sat in silence for a few more moments before he stood up. The instant his hand left her leg Kagome felt cold. She followed him to the door.
"Also, while you were sleep, your room has been furnished."
Kagome couldn't stop the smile that appeared on her face.
"Really?"
His face twitched into a tiny smile, before he turned and walked closed the door behind Sesshomaru. She couldn't wait to see her room, but she needed to talk to Sango first.
She cut through the kitchen, saving herself a few seconds, and reached Sango's door quickly. She knocked quietly on the door. When she didn't hear anything, she pushed the door open slowly.
The lights were off in the room, and Kagome could barely make out Sango's shape curled under the blankets on the bed.
"Sango?"
She took a step into the room.
"Kagome, I'm kind of tired right now. Let's talk later."
Kagome froze, before taking a hesitant step backwards.
"Yeah, Okay. I just wanted to say I'm sorry."
"I forgive you."
Kagome stood in the doorway for an extra moment before she backed out of the room and closed the door.
