Ch.4 A peek at the future part 1
(This chapter takes place a couple of years in the future of the present just to give a little explanation)
At DEM headquarters main office Westcott (The director of DEM) discusses and a little hypothesis with Ellen Mathers his most powerful wizard.
"Ellen I just thought of fun idea I'd like to try"
"What is it sir?"
"Are you aware of how a spirits powers are sealed right?"
"Of course sir"
"Then how about we try another method just for fun"
Wescott decides to arrange a new method of sealing a spirit's powers or at least weaken them just to see what would happen (which he explains with a smile). Meanwhile back in Japan, Shido goes about an average day without any troubles, and he looks forward to just spend a relaxing afternoon at him with Kotori, Tohka, and Yoshino since they decided to just order something for dinner to give him the night off for once. As Shido shops for a dessert for the girls to thank them for being considerate of him, he is approached by Kurumi who is eating a Popsicle.
"Long time no see Shido"
"Kurumi? Why are you here?"
"Too see you of course Shido, why else"
"Okay so why do you want to see me?"
"Well it's more appropriate if you say it"
Shido pauses for a brief second and catches Kurumi's intent.
"You want to go on a date?"
"Tee hee you got it"
"Why now all of the sudden, wait this isn't another trick is it?"
"Of course not let's just say this is proper thanks for that time I helped with Miku and DEM"
Shido thinks for a second and nods his head.
"Okay why not, but promise me you won't do anything funny okay"
"You don't trust me, oh how mean of you"
"Well no it's just that you know"
"Okay I get it, so let's keep it simple this time how's that sound"
"Sure I'm okay with that"
So Shido and Kurumi agree on a simple date, a movie, and then dinner at a modest restaurant. Shido chose to not tell the others about this date since he didn't want Ratatoskr feeding him awkward decisions like the first day he met Kurumi. Two days later Shido gets ready to meet Kurumi at the theatre, but he still feels somewhat uneasy about the whole idea. He tells everyone that he's going out by himself for a few hours and will be home late, and that he made their dinner already. Upon arrival he sees Kurumi waiting in front of the theatre, and when she sees him she approaches and grabs his arm. The two but tickets to the movie Kurumi picked, which Shido didn't see. Upon the movies start he notices what it was, a horror movie which was being called heart attack scary by the majority of people.
"(Why would she pick this movie!?)"
About an hour later the audience is screaming at the horror that the movie was showing. Shido even has difficulties keeping his composure, but Kurumi screams a little which she takes advantage of to cuddle up to Shido's arm.
"(So that's why she picked this movie…HOLY CRAP!)"
Shido nearly throws up at the scene but holds it back. After the movie finishes Shido and Kurumi leave to the restaurant, but decide to walk so Shido can regain his appetite. Despite the thrills from the theatre the two actually seem to be having a genuinely good time. At the restaurant the two have good conversation, which was interrupted by the waitress asking for their orders. By the end of their meal as two leave the waitress waves them goodbye and at the bottom of lungs she utters with a smug look.
"Enjoy you're night you two"
As they walk Shido begins to feel strange and asks Kurumi.
"Hey do want to go to one more place?"
"Oh and where would that be?"
Shido holds Kurumi's hand and takes her to a place that he remembered from his first date with Tohka, and luckily it was still up, Dream Park.
"Kurumi what do you say?"
Kurumi herself then begins to feel strange as well.
"Are you sure Shido I mean…"
"Hey it's okay if you don't want to"
"No it's just my heart is racing"
Shido holds Kurumi in his arms, and the walk into the entrance. The rest of the night was let's just say magic. Afterwards Shido didn't see or hear from Kurumi for over a year, and it's been well over a year since that date. However what Shido didn't know was that Kurumi began losing her powers slowly following that night, and Westcott has actually been monitoring Kurumi's movements since following her condition, and was in fact the reason it happened. At his office he has decided on another idea involving his project as he puts it.
"(Hmm I like where this is going, Nightmares powers are sealing up nicely, and I could capture her now…Nah I'd rather pluck the fruit rather than the tree)"
Westcott had actually discovered what Kurumi disappeared for, and why she's been hiding from Shido. After their date she actually got pregnant with his daughter and decided to keep her a secret from everyone to avoid any danger from coming to her baby, but at the same time is contemplating what to do next. At the moment she is looking after her daughter, Kasumi Itsuka, in an apartment she found for cheap, and luckily she didn't need food that wasn't free for a while. Wescott now thinking the time is right sends Ellen to take the baby in the hopes of turning her into a powerful wizard when she gets older. Ellen goes into her mission solo since without her power Kurumi doesn't pose much threat at all. Upon arriving at the targets location in the middle of the night, Ellen finds it fortunate that Kasumi is asleep in a crib, and Kurumi is sleeping close by.
"(Hmm so this is nightmare…pathetic)"
Ellen picks up the infant from her crib, which causes her to wake up and start crying, which also wakes Kurumi up and see Ellen.
"Put down my baby!"
"Or what, I know you are powerless"
"How do you know about that?"
"I see no reason to explain myself"
Ellen knocks Kurumi down without so much as using a weapon, and proceeds to fly away with Kasumi in her arms. The sound of her baby crying as Ellen flies away causes great anger and fear in Kurumi as she shouts for her angel to appear. Ellen while in midflight feels an uneasy presence, and looks down to see a black cloud engulfing the apartment below.
"What I haven't seen this since…"
Ellen looks forward and sees Kurumi, obscured by shadows and can only see a red eye and a very sadistic smile. Ellen then puts down the small baby on a nearby roof and prepares to engage Kurumi; she starts by extending her arms to unleash a devastating attack from the start. Unfortunately for Ellen Kurumi wastes no time stopping her by shooting two shots from a pair of unseen guns, these two shots were actually so powerful that before Ellen could see the damage she puts her arms together to finish the attack, only to notice that Kurumi's two shots had actually blown off both of her arms at the elbows.
"What the…"
Kurumi fires another shot, this time taking off one of Ellen's legs. Ellen actually shows intense fear as Kurumi approaches further and both of their bodies are covered by the black cloud. Kurumi then proceeds to torture Ellen for at least six minutes until finally she hears Kasumi crying from the roof Ellen set her on, and comes back to her senses and the cloud dissipates, and she sees herself holding Ellen by the throat bleeding and barley alive.
"Don't ever come near me again"
For the sake of her child Kurumi decides to drop Ellen on the ground and rushes to her babies location, and picks her up to calm her down.
"( Just like Tohka that one time… such incredible power)"
Westcott who was watching the entire event stands and laughs like a child at seeing Kurumi's inverse form in action for that brief second.
"Nice Nice very Nice! Too bad her powers are gone again, and Ellen is useless now, but then again maybe she has one last use"
Kurumi at decides that it was better if Kasumi grew up with Shido to have a better life with him. So she puts Kasumi in a carrier with a blanket, her teddy bear, one last bottle of milk, and a letter to Shido explaining everything. Kurumi actually cries a little as she knocks on Shido's door and runs away quickly. As he opens the door Shido hears crying and quickly notices the baby in the carrier.
"Someone left a baby at my door!"
The girls also come to see what the noise was about, wearing their pajamas, and also notice the baby, Kotori was the first to comment.
"Bro what's with the baby!?"
"I don't know"
Then Yoshinon comments on the paper attached
"Hey there's a note attached to the carrier, read what it says Shido"
"Oh yeah good idea…let's see"
The letter read.
Dear Shido
I didn't mean to disappear, it's just that things got complicated, not to mince words this is our daughter, her name is Kasumi Itsuka. I can't look after her anymore so please take care of her she means the world to me and hopefully you, I have left you with what she has and one last bottle of you know what, and don't worry she doesn't need to be fed that way after that.

Shido takes a second to absorb the information from the letter, and then looks closer at the baby which greatly resembled him and Kurumi upon closer look.
"WHAT!"
Tohka becomes concerned and looks at the letter herself
"Shido what is this?"
"Uh Tohka I can explain"
"Explain what, that you and Kurumi, the two of you… went and ordered a baby from the stork!"
Shido looks at Kotori with a confused look.
"What I had to tell her something about where babies come from, what would you have preferred I'd say they grew in a cabbage patch?"
"Yeah but the stork really?"
"Hey you can't expect me to tell someone the birds and bees on my own, cut me some slack jeez!"
After more time everybody calms down, except Yoshino who was never flustered to begin with, and Shido talks with everybody about what he's going to do.
"Well no thinking about, I'm taking responsibility"
"Bro are you sure I mean this is a baby, and you're still fairly young"
"Yeah I know, but still this is something I have take to do"
Tohka looks with more enthusiasm and encourages Shido's decision.
"Yeah I agree, besides what kind of mother gives her baby that kind of milk it tasted kind of strange"
"Tohka did you drink the milk in that bottle?"
"Just a sip, why?"
Shido looks at Kotori who begrudgingly says.
"Fine I'll tell her"
Kotori whispers something into Tohka's ear which causes her to put on a disgusted look and runs to the faucet and start downing water. Then everyone gathers around and looks at their newest addition to their group Kasumi Itsuka with big smiles.
(Note: the waitress slipped something into the food at the restaurant and that is why Shido and Kurumi felt strange as it was a special medicine meant for this occasion)
