It was the end of the year, finally. Students seemed to have eyes for nothing but their watches, ignoring their entire last day of classes, like they had done all week. Most teachers simply didn't have the energy at that point in the year to force the students to pay attention. Professor Binns on the other hand, was still droning on. As their exams were next week, the all knew they should be studying but the sun was shining and their classes were almost over. Soon enough, they would be free to cram all the information they could into their thick skulls before finals. Remus, who was a model student, had been studying for weeks and was quite confident. The other marauders on the other hand, were all suddenly quite consumed by the books they had neglected all year. He spun the ring casually on his finger, its simple paperclip form having been deformed and twisted onto his finger. Sirius's matching one showed their relationship off to the world. He turned his attention from their rings back to the lecture as Sirius, James and Peter studied inconspicuously. Lilly looked over at Remus with a smile, she understood, having been one of the only other people who didn't need to cram for the exams. Jams and Sirius, their respective mates were scribbling furious notes on their various subjects, wanting to pass. The class ended shortly and the group went to the common room. Sirius looked up suddenly from his book after having sat in the common room studying for an hour. Remus looked up from the fire and into Sirius's smoky grey eyes. "Remus love, I haven't given you nearly enough attention this week." Sirius said.
"It's been quiet." Lilly said smirking.
"Especially at night in the common room." James said not looking up from his book and notes.
"Studying tires him." Remus said lovingly.
"I'm sorry darling." Sirius said shoving all the books and paper off the table, including James's and Peter's. The two looked up disturbed by Sirius's sudden outburst. "Tonight is all about you." Sirius said.
"Let's not." Remus said dryly. He really hated attention, especially when Sirius made everyone's attention divert to him.
"I have to study." James said irritably. Peter nodded.
"You can study tomorrow Jamie boy! Today we pamper Remmy." Sirius said. "Peter, run to the kitchens and fetch all of the chocolate and sugar quills they have." Sirius said.
"And if they don't have any just run into Honeydukes and get some." James added before Peter scurried off.
"James, Lilly,-" Sirius began before Lilly held up a hand, stopping Sirius's orders.
"1. I don't follow orders from a prat like you." She said pointing accusingly at Sirius. "2. I do what I want." She said before walking off to do something for Remus on her own.
"Why do I have to help? I'm not shagging him." James said frowning.
"You've copied his homework since we were friends with him. You could at least do something nice for him to say thank you." Sirius snarled. "And we both know Remus does the shagging, I'm the receiver of said shagging." Sirius said with a smile. James covered his ears and began singing loudly, and quite badly.
"Just tell me what to do and stop talking about shagging your boyfriend. You've already told me all the details every morning." James moaned.
"James." Sirius slapped James's hands away from his ears. "Make the dorm room perfect, everything Remus likes. Muggle music and soft things and all that." Sirius said shoving James.
"Muggle music?" James wined wrinkling his nose. Remus rubbed his temples. Sirius nodded eagerly. James slumped off. Sirius spend the rest of the time while the others were working, simply talking to Remus. It was not at all what Remus expected, surprisingly pleasant. Sirius spoke about the various subjects he was studying and about the various things he had done in the library, mostly pranks. Soon the conversation turned to what they would do when they graduated and how they both wanted to fight Voldemort. It seemed like such a dangerous task, something that they had no hope of achieving but they soon decided they would do it together. James and Lilly would join them of course, and Peter who was a follower would join them also. When their conversation stilled and they began staring at the fire in comfortable silence, the others began appearing around their couch. James was first, looking worn out but proud. Peter was next, depositing all the chocolate and sugar quills on the table and wiping his mouth where there were chocolate stains. Lilly was last, producing copies of all her notes from Remus's worst class. He thanked them profusely before ascending the stairs with James and Sirius on his heels. Lilly kissed James and headed off to her own bed, leaving Peter to gather all the candy and bring it to their room. The carpet was now tall planes of green fur so soft you could walk around without shoes or socks. The beds had all been replaces with massive red squishy bean bag chairs that were bed sized. Flopping down on one, Sirius sank so deep he feared he might never resurface but the comfort was worth it. Peter put all the chocolate on Remus's trunk before flopping down on his own bean bag.
"Good work James." Sirius said smiling at his best friend.
"Thank you so much James." Remus said sweetly as he sank slowly into his bean bag adjacent to Sirius.
"I tried to make the carpet any other color but…you don't want to know." James said rubbing his arm where there were what appeared to be octopi sucker bruises.
"Be gentle to yours Peter. It may pop." James laughed at the very top of Peter's head which was the only part of him that was visible. They all laughed before changing into their pajamas and descending into their respective bean bag chairs.
"Thank you guys." Remus whispered to the darkness.
"Anything for you love." Sirius whispered back, reaching over a hand that Remus took, shutting his eyes, happier than he had ever been.
"Sirius's is right, you do so much for us. Glad to be able to thank you." James mumbled. Peter's snores and Sirius's hand were the last think Remus's brain registered before he fell asleep. And it was good.
