League Meetings
Gotham
Bruce had a lot on his mind. The famed owner of Wayne Industries was sitting in the back of a slick black limousine driving down the streets of Gotham. What was he thinking about?
To start was the sudden appearance of two individuals. One who was only a teenager dressed in red and blue spandex with a spider insignia on his chest, and a man who apparently followed him in after the fact, with enough fire power to start a small war.
The teen was named Spider-Man, a fitting name, due to his powers and DNA. He showed up in Gotham not that long ago, and to what Bruce believed, apprehended Deathstroke. A feat not easily done.
The boy then starting talking about a bomb in New York, about having fighting a man named Doom which ended up sending him to the dark city. Now Bruce had at first denied his claims thinking he was just a kid who wanted a rush. However he began to doubt those thoughts the moment the kid threw the first punch.
Bruce was no slouch when it came to reading people. Mask or no mask body language spoke volumes, and Bruce knew instantly that he had crossed a line at what he said to the boy that night. Body tensed and shaking slowly from rage ready to charge again not showing any signs of restraint.
Bruce let out a soft sigh. He had to take the kid down before he did something he would regret. Even as he was lifting the boys arm around his shoulders, he somewhat believed what he said. It only intensified after the blood work and trying to find out who he was without removing the mask.
The child had a mutation, one where his blood was mixed with that of a spider. Explaining his powers and based on his reaction when Bruce asked him about it, the mutation must have gone out of control at some point. Not a topic to bring up he had also noticed.
What also bothered him was the fact the kid was a ghost. He did not exist. No database anywhere had any info on him witch sent up red flags in his head. He started building a theory and questioned the teen once again.
It turns out his theory might not be a theory anymore.
He might have from another dimension.
Granted dimension hopping is not uncommon, Bruce remembers with a scowl as images of the Justice Lords flashed through his memory. However he still needed to know if the teen can be trusted fully. After talking with Supergirl, and Diana Bruce was starting to believe so.
Kara had said that he was not liked much in his home, saying that both heroes and villains didn't like him all that much. One side saying he was menace the other side saying he was a as he put it "An annoying insect". Bruce felt his lips curl into a small grin. 'Annoying' sums it up pretty well. Kara however trusted him, saying that he seems more lost and confused then anything. Like he's out of place.
Bruce frowned at that. Diana said the same thing. He let out a sigh. He knew what he had to do. He had to discuss this with the rest of the founding members. See what they have to think about the newcomer and maybe find out more on this so called Doom.
Then there was the other one. Bruce had to hold in a groan as he felt a slight migraine. He was giving the pleasure of integrating the man who had showed up in a crater in Metropolis in a battle suit.
The man was as Bruce would describe as a mix of Lex Luther and himself. The man had introduced himself as Tony Stark, famous billionaire whose biggest investment is alternative power sources, health and life treating equipment, and the future of transport. He explained that he was the one who built the suit to keep himself alive.
He pointed to the glowing triangle on his chest and had sad smile on his face as he explained that at one point Stark Industries was in the weapon business. Designing new and advanced weapons for the future. However he had explained how when he was out displaying some of his new creations he and the small squadron that he was with was attacked.
He said they used his weapons. Weapons that he had created to help the world. He went on to explain that a missile got to close to him and when it exploded sent a piece of shrapnel into his chest.
He went on to explain how he was forced to work on a weapon for the terrorists, while he secretly worked on getting out. He got out, but was never the same.
Bruce let out a small sigh as he looked out the window observing the landscape that passed bye. Tony built the armor after that and after some contrived events he became the hero known as Iron Man.
Bruce did not how to react. He did not expect to get a full origin story on the man, or for him to be so open about it. Did he not know how much danger he was putting everyone in revealing who he was?
Bruce had asked Green Arrow after the fact, and he only smirked and said, "Guy is bad at keeping secrets."
Bruce doubted that. Throughout the entire interrogation, Tony did not mention how his suit worked, what went into making it, even how he came up with the design. All he would do is smirk and shake his head.
Bruce then decided to test his theory one more time. He started dropping names. Spider, Doom, Bomb. Tony caught on quick. His demeanor changed instantly, the playful Tony Stark was now replaced with something Bruce shockingly knew too well. The look of a serious leader, someone who demanded to know all the facts, and would do anything to get them. A look Bruce looked at plenty of times in his own mirror.
Bruce began to explain about a teenager who appeared suddenly and they were currently holding. Tony nodded quietly listening to everything Bruce said. Then did something that surprised the man behind the cowl.
"He's innocent." He said with so much conviction, that it threw Bruce for a loop. Apparently the kid had some friends after all.
"What makes you so sure?" Bruce remembers asking him.
Tony only sighed and a small but at the same time proud smile grew on his face. "Spider-Man is many things, but he's someone who I can rely on. I put my life in his hands and I know I'll be fine. Sure he has some issues, but who doesn't? He's a good kid. Plus he saved my tin hide a few times, so yeah I think he's good."
Bruce could only shake his head at that. He trusted him so easily? Did he even know who was behind the mask? Did he know it was a kid who was fighting crime? Did he know it was a kid who had gotten involved with a bomb?
That was also something he asked Tony about. That and who was Doom.
Tony explained that the bomb was an old World War II relic created to disrupt the flow of gravity. Bruce's eyes narrowed at that. How could they have created something like that back then?
Tony then started talking about the man named Doom. He was a villain and by the way Tony explained him he was one of the big ones. A genus who matches only few and a master of robotics. Tony had gone on how Doom was planning on detonation the bomb in Times Square unless he got what he wanted.
"Master Bruce?"
Bruce blinked slowly as he looked over to the front of the limo to see an elderly man with white hair, and a nice black suit. His face was deadpanned from expression but one of his eyebrows was risen in a questioning manner.
Bruce sighed and shook his head. "Sorry Alfred."
"Quite alright sir, but may I ask what has you so lost in thought that you have forgotten where we are currently going to?" Alfred asked.
"Work."
Alfred nodded his head slowly. "Ah, The two new guests of our world." He stated casually as if he was used to this kind of thing.
Bruce nodded. "I need to make a meeting with the League soon to discuss my findings and come up with something we can do for them."
"Are you going to let them join, sir?" he asked.
"Unlikely." Bruce said instantly. "They are both not of our dimension and might have family and ties to their own dimension. An alliance might be better."
"Well then sir, do you wish for me to postpone your meeting with Mr. Luthor for another day?"
Bruce glanced up at his old friend and he felt his lips curl into a smile. "Wouldn't hurt him to bad will it?" he asked sarcastically.
A hint of a smile could be seen on the butlers face as he turned the limo around to head back to Wayne Manor. "Not at all sir."
Watchtower
Spider-Man sighed as he laid back in the very stiff bed that was in his holding cell. He was alone today, no Supergirl or whoever the other one was who visited him that one time. Granted he didn't mind the silence but he kind of missed the blond girl. She took his mind off some things.
Now that she wasn't here his mind began to wonder back to the bomb and Doom.
'What did the explosion do?' he asked himself.
'If it was a true explosion then I would be dead along with Doom and a good chunk of New York, but I'm still here.' He frowned under his mask. If he was here that meant Doom was here as well, and if what that bat guy said is true Tony is here as well. How Tony got here he had no idea but he was glad someone he knew was here.
Now all he needed to know where was he. Spidey craned his head around and gazed at the blue force-field keeping him in this room. Now if this was any other time he would have tried to figure out a way out and be out of here before anyone suspected a thing, but something was holding him back.
Something in the back of his head was just telling him to wait, to just let things happen. He was worried about Tony, and about what Doom was planning, and yet he decided to wait and see what happens. "Hey the bat guy said they were heroes too, so who knows maybe they will help."
"…Yeah keep dreaming Spidey, it's never that easy." He said bitterly. However as he said that the door on the other side of the force-filed opened.
Spider-Man sat up straight ready to greet who he thought it was only to pause. It was not Supergirl. Though by looks it might be a relative. The man stood tall a proud with a blue suit and a long red cape behind him. On his chest the symbol of an 'S' that stood proudly. The man had black combed hair and his eyes where a dark blue.
For some reason Peter felt small next to this guy. Granted the guy's mussels did not help any, but just his presence just screamed respect, like he was important. Just like Cap.
The man looked over at the teen and Peter froze in his spot as the man stared at him then to the teens surprises he gave the teen a warm smile. He pressed a few buttons on the side and force-filed faded.
Peters eyes where wide as he slowly stood up. He looked at the door then to the man.
"Spider-Man, correct?" He asked.
Peter nodded dumbly not sure where this was going.
The man's smile seemed to grow as he extended his hand out to the teen hero. "The names Superman." He said.
Peter blinked behind his mask for a few seconds just staring at the hand before slowly extending his and taking the surprisingly strong hand. "Really? Couldn't tell. You know with whole S on the chest." He joked.
Clark chuckled. "Follow me son." He said as he started to walk out.
Peter had to blink for a moment as he followed the man of steel out of the jail cell. He sounded just like Cap it spooked him.
As the two walked Peter noticed many other costumed heroes staring at him with either curiosity or suspicion. Peter sighed to himself. No matter where he go's it's always the same.
As they continued to walk Peter took in the sights. It was an incredible space station designed for the best with equipment that would make even Stark envoys, yet something seemed a little off. It seemed a bit too much.
He was pulled from his thoughts as he was brought before a big door. He glanced at Superman and the man gave him a kind smile before entering the room. Peter however froze in his spot at what was on the other side of the door.
Six costumed heroes where staring at him, some with suspicion like the dark skinned man who glowed a faint green and a woman with wings on her back. While some had some curios expressions like a man who was dressed in red and yellow with a lightning bolt on his chest, and the same woman he saw when he woke up who gave him a smile.
Others had black expressions like the man who was completely green with white eyes and a blue cape and a big red X on his chest and then the bat guy himself.
Peter was starting to sweat buckets. He had a good feeling on what was going on. They wanted to interrogate him decide what they wanted to do with him. His mind raced with the possible outcomes but they all ended up looking bad for him. Before he fell into a full out panic he felt a strong hand grasp his shoulder snapping Peter out of his thoughts. He gazed up at the man of steel and saw him smile softly before nodding.
Peter took a deep breath to calm his nerves. He was overreacting, he needed to calm down. They could help him. He looked back at the founding members of the Justice League and gulped before raising his hand and gave a little wave. "Hi."
Some league members waved back at him and he felt himself relax somewhat. He looked over at Superman who walked over to sit in between the bat guy and the woman who talked with him the first day on the Watchtower.
Superman smiled at Peter before he cleared his throat. "This meeting will start." He stated. He looked around at his fellow teammates before he nodded to Batman to begin.
Bruce nodded and his gaze traveled to Spider-Man. "I have gathered you here to discuss some issues." He stated.
Spidey stared right back at the Dark Knight. "And those are?" he asked crossing his arms over his chest.
"There was no bomb threat to New York, there is no record of a Spider-Man in any database." His eyes narrowed. "You don't exist." He said coldly.
Peter's eyes had widened. No bomb in New York? He did not exist? That's imposable! Hell all of New York knew who he was, granted they didn't like him that much, same goes for the heroes…and villains.
Spider-Man was a well-known name around the hero world. For better or worse it was still well known, and the fact they had no records on him either was striking. So how did they not have any?
Peter's eyes grew wide as a theory started to form in his mind.
"The bomb…" he mumbled.
"What was that?" The man in green asked.
Spider-Man snapped out of his thoughts and glanced at the League. "Okay I know this is going to sound farfetched but I think I may not be from your dimension."
"What makes you say that kid?" The girl with wings said.
Peter looked over at her and noticed her glare before gulping again. He needed to word this just right. "Okay let me start at the beginning. A bad guy named Doctor Doom somehow got his hands on a gravity bomb, now what it could fully do I have no idea, but the basic idea is that it could change the flow of gravity. I tried to stop him but the bomb was already set to go off and I had no idea on how to disarm it without killing innocent people. All I could do was try and change the code so that it could implode on itself without causing any casualties, however Doom got to me and knocked me into the control panel and I might have pressed the enter button. The bomb went off and well…you all know the rest."
The room was silent for a while all staring at him with some semblance of shock. Batman got over it quickly and narrowed his eyes at the teen before him. "Do you know what happened with the doctor?" he asked.
Peter sighed and shook his head. "No, but if I'm here then I'm sure he is as well, and that's not good."
"How come?" Flash asked.
"Doomy may not seem like much, but believe me he is dangerous. He is ranked close to the top of the most dangerous criminals in my world." Peter said seriously.
"Why so high?" Superman asked.
"The guys a genus, a master at robotics, deception, and holds very little mercy to anyone." He said his tone growing dark. "He has killed thousands just take over the world, to shape it in his own image, so he can rule it his way."
Batman cast a glance at Superman and caught the man of steels gaze both thinking the same thing.
"What about the other guy? The one in the armor?" Green Lantern asked.
Spidey let out a sigh as he seemed to relax a little. "His name is Iron Man, leader of a group of heroes back home. He may be an ass, but he tries to do what's right." Spidey said shrugging.
"Are you a member of that group as well?" Wonder Woman asked. But frowned as the boys shoulders seemed to shag.
"Uh no." he said.
"How come?" Flash asked.
"Besides the fact that he is still a teenager" Batman stated.
Spider-Man nodded his head. "That's one reason, but the true one is…well no one really likes me all that much." He said with a soft chuckle.
Wonder Woman frowned at this. How did they not like him? He seemed like a fine young man. "Why do they not like you?" she asked.
Spider-Man turned to her and nervously started rubbing the back of his head. "Well, you see I sort of talk a lot, joke a lot, and well people think of me as a menace to society, so I kind of have a hard time making friends." He shrugged.
"Menace to society?" Superman asked this time.
"Newspaper." Spiderman said causing the man of steels eyes to widen. "Head guy doesn't like me all that much. Something about the mask. Maybe he's jealous?" Spidey asked aloud as he took a thinking stance just now starting to think about it.
"Back on the topic at hand," Batman stated getting the conversation back on topic, "What do you think Doom is planning now?" he asked.
Spider-Man sighed as he only shrugged. "Honestly. I have no idea. I'm not even his worst enemy, another group back home is." He said. "But if I had to guess, he would be trying to get his barring and making a new plan."
Batman nodded before glancing at the others. "One more thing."
Spider-Man nodded and sighed. "Yes?"
Batman narrowed his eyes at Spider-Man. "We would like to send you an invitation to join with us for a short period."
Peter's eyes had grown wide at that. He had to be herring things, they were not asking him to join where they!? "Huh?"
"We have no info on Doctor Doom or what it is he is planning, and what if you say is true than we should be prepared for the worst." The Dark Knight explained without showing emotion.
Spider-Man had to think about that. He was right about that. Doom may not sound like much but he knows never to underestimate the good doctor. Still they really would let him join, they barley know him! Yet, the more he thought about this he really had no choice about this…however-
"What about Iron Man?" Spidey suddenly asked.
Batman narrowed his eyes. He had thought about that as well, and while it bothered him, they needed all the info they could. He did not like having an unknown thrown at him but at this point if this kid trusted him then he would deal with it for now. "We will send an invite to him as well, however the suit stays here till further notice."
Spider-Man nodded. So the suit was up here. Good to know.
Batman nodded his head to Superman who turned to Spider-Man. "Well Spider-Man, as of right now you are a reserved member of the Justice League. We will send someone to show you around the Watchtower alright?" he asked with a smile.
Spider-Man slowly nodded before the door opened and to his surprise Supergirl came in smiling "Hey Spidey let me show you around a bit." She said wrapping on of her arms around his and pulling him with her with great force dragging him out of the room.
Superman watched them leave before turning to the only one who did not speak during the interrogation. "Thank you J'onn"
The Martian Manhunter gave the man of steel and small grin and nodded. "Not a problem."
Superman gazed at the founding members of the League and took a deep breath. "Thoughts?" he asked.
"I like him." Flash said instantly. Everyone stared at him. He only shrugged. "Hey kids got a good sense of humor, hard to find someone like that." He said.
Harkgirl rolled her eyes at him but remained silent.
"I'm not too sure. He is still a kid and all. It's going to take more than just words before I can trust him." Green Lantern spoke sternly.
Hawkgirl nodded. "Same"
Wonder Woman smiled for a moment. "He does not seem like a bad person." She frowned however as she remembered her talk with him, "He seems like a troubled young man who is lost."
Superman nodded at this his arms crossed over his chest. "I agree. He seemed more out of place than anything. The kid almost had a panic attack as soon as he saw everyone." He sighed to himself, "Yet, what he said still bothers me. Why does the newspaper call him a menace?" he asked out loud.
"The same reason Cadmus fears us." The cold voice of the Batman cut through the room like a knife.
Everyone turned their attention to the dark knight, "They fear what they don't understand."
"But what about that iron guy, why don't they fear him too?" Flash asked.
"Because the world knows who he is." He said shocking everyone.
"They know who he is?" Green Lantern asked.
Batman nodded. "When I interrogated him, he was very open about the fact that he was the man in the suit, talked about his origin and it seems like the world may know that he is the one in the suit."
"So why is he behind a mask?" Hawkgirl asked.
"To keep his loved one's safe." Wonder Woman said. Surprising everyone. She looked at everyone with sad eyes. "He said that he wore to protect the ones he cares about." She clarified.
Everyone slowly turned to the dark knight who's expression did not change but his head was lowered slightly.
Superman glanced at his friend with concern for a moment before turning to the only one who has not spoken what they thought of him. "J'onn?"
The Martian Manhunter looked at the man of steel and everyone around the table. "I'm not sure. He has yet to show if he truly knows what he speaks is true. He could be a spy sent by Cadmus to spy on us to find some weakness, or someone with a grudge agents the league."
The others only stared at their green friend all starting to have doubts as well.
"However, "
They all raised an eyebrow as they returned their gaze to him.
"His expression and his emotions show that he is troubled by what is happening. He seems alone, and I know that feeling well." He said softly. "I think we can trust him for now." He said.
Superman smiled at his friend and turned to the rest of the League. "Anything else to say?" he asked. Everyone shook their head no. "Then I call this meeting to an end." He said firmly.
