Hall room
Aki POV
My friend, Misty, is Yusei's ex-girlfriend. That has to be a joke right? I looked at Carly, looking for the slightest doubt in her eyes but there's none.
"Carly, please stop joking. This isn't funny anymore," I said to her.
"Akiza, just listen okay? You'll understand why Jack's acting like the way he was and why Misty believes that you could be Yusei's girl," requested Carly.
I don't know what to say. I mean, I just can't believe that this is happening. Is that why Misty is so close to Yusei? Because they were together before? Carly just droned on her voice, forcing me to listen.
"When Yusei and the others were admitted last year, they were already popular for their dueling skills and the fact that they came from the Satellite. Students often challenge them to a duel and the Enforcers always win," Carly started.
"What does that have to do with Misty being Yusei's girl?" I asked.
"One of those students was a boy named Toby," Carly continued. "He asked Yusei to duel him and was handily beaten. Toby admired Yusei and asked him to be his friend. Unknown to them, someone was watching their duel. It was Misty. She and I weren't friends yet. She wasn't like she is now. Back then, she was snobby and an attention seeking girl. She wanted everything. When she saw Yusei, she wanted him to be his boyfriend to make her more popular. So she asked someone to introduce her to him. That someone was her little brother, Toby."
Right now, I don't know what to think or feel, whether I'd be angry, sad, jealous or happy. Too many thoughts are floating inside my head.
"When Toby introduced his big sister Misty to Yusei, it's not a stretch to say that Yusei fell for her then. Misty, however, was like a wolf in sheep's clothing, only wanting to use Yusei. Then, after a month or so, they broke up. Misty changed for the better and Yusei preferred to be alone most of the time," Carly finished.
"What happened then Carly? Why'd they broken up?" I asked her.
"I don't know either. Maybe Yusei found out and just asked her to leave? Or maybe they just agreed it's for the best, I don't really know. You should ask Misty about that, assuming she'd tell you," Carly replied.
After hearing that, I just felt that my chance to be with Yusei was all blown away. I mean, Misty has it all and Carly said she changed after they broke up so it's possible that they would have gotten back together. Knowing that, I feel that I'm trying to claw myself out of Misty's shadow. I sighed, turning my attention back to the students' introduction. I see a worried Carly in the corner of my eye, still not wearing her glasses.
Library
Yusei POV
I was allowed to skip homeroom so that I could work on my project, the new engine design when the sliding door to the library opened and in came a puffy-eyed Misty.
"What are you bawling your eyes out today Mis? Toby didn't give you a hug?" I asked her jokingly. She just smiled and took a seat beside me.
"I was looking for Jack," was all Misty said to me before placing her head on my shoulders. I gently pushed her away.
"So, why are you looking for Jack?" I asked, trying to start up a conversation before anything weird happens.
"I was going to explain to him about this morning's incident," she told me, not meeting my eyes.
"What incident?"
"I invited him this morning to come to Carly's hall room and meet the friend I was talking about then he began to ask her if she was the one in your dream that kissed you and if it was really a dream," she answered.
"Wait, are you telling me that my dream wasn't a dream?" I asked her, forcing her to look up to me.
"If it was real Yusei, would you hate her just because of that? She really likes you," Misty said, almost pleadingly.
"Misty, if it was real, I wouldn't hate her; there must be some reason that we kissed right?" I asked her.
"You just suddenly woke up then and her face was hovering above yours so it was inevitable I guess. But she kissed you back Yus, she likes you. You wouldn't hate her because of that," Misty told me, trying to convince me and herself.
"No, I won't. But that doesn't mean I'll return her feelings. Friends is fine but not another relationship," I told her.
"But I'm telling you that you two are perfect for each other. She'll complete you, heal that scar in your heart," Misty tried.
"Sorry Misty but no. You taught me that I'm not yet ready and should wait a year ago so that's what I'm doing now," I say, a little too sternly.
"But Yus, you're being blind because of it. Your acting all alone and pessimistic at times and way too serious for your own good," she says to me, holding my hand. I pulled it back.
"Misty, you're too emotional right now. Let's talk about this later," I tell her.
"Yusei, can't you forget what I did in the past?" Misty finally said. I stopped in my tracks, not imagining that she'd mention it.
"No, I can't and I won't Misty. It's a reminder of sorts for me. That shouldn't bother you anymore. I told you that I accepted it and still be your friend. We already moved on from that so stop thinking about it," I told her.
"Then stop thinking about what I did to you. It's hurting you badly. I still care for you, you know," Misty responded, holding my arm. I stood up, asked her to let go and began gathering my things to leave.
"You try to hide it so much. Just yesterday you we—"
"Misty please, you're not acting yourself right now. To be blunt, I don't like what you did to me in the past but that's gone now. Were friends now and I'll just be friends with anyone," I told her, walking away. I heard her chair moved and the footsteps following me. I stop to face her.
"Then, grant me this last request, as your former girlfriend," she said meekly, tears running down her face before holding my face and began to pull me closer to kiss me.
