Sydney: This has been a very long time coming. I haven't gotten around to writing much because of work and everything but I still managed to finish this chapter.
Roxas: Yes she did but now she probably won't update for another two months.
Sydney: That's not true! It's probably be a month and a half mainly because I've been watching a lot of videos about Kingdom Hearts.
Roxas: Either way, Sydney does not own Kingdom Hearts or Divergent or anything really.
Chapter 24: The final test.
I didn't like people that much. There was just too many of them and they were loud and annoying and idiotic which made me mad. Tris and I had grown slightly close since that day but we still weren't the best of friends like her and Christina. Today was the final day of initiation. We had to go through our fear landscapes and pray and hope that there is nothing to terrifying in them. Pretty much all of Dauntless had piled into the glass building, watching all the initiates go into their fear landscapes. The order went from lowest rank to highest which meant that Tris goes last and I went second last. it felt like forever as we sat in the hall for awhile. There wasn't much to do while we waited so we just stared at the wall. When the other five were done, I walked in front of the observation room where Eric was standing with a syringe full of orange liquid. The needle was plunged into my neck which was no pain, The serum rushed into my veins when he pressed the plunger.
My eyes closed for a few seconds and when I opened them I was in the middle of a school hallway. There were people standing at lockers, walking past me in opposite directions. They were all chatting away with smiles on their faces. I turned around only to bump into somebody.
"Watch where you're walking freakshow." The girl I bumped into said as she slammed the books I was holding onto the ground. My head automatically wanted to look down and avoid eye contact but with my newfound free will, I looked the girl in the eyes.
"Pick those up." I told her in a slightly quiet voice.
"Why should I?" She asked acting like the blond bimbo she was.
"Because I told you to." I said.
"No way, loser." She said before pushing past me, stepping on my books and slamming her shoulder into mine, pushing me back a step. Before I could even consider the logical side of my mind, I grabbed the purse she was holding and threw it down the hall.
"Deal with that." I told her before tripping her with my foot, causing her to fall on that fake face of hers. She quickly got up with tears at the corner of her eyes and ran towards the other end of the hall. I turned around and was immediately shown a different location.
I was in the middle of a city (no idea what city, just a city) and there was a gun in my right hand. It was the middle of the night and I was dressed in all black. My heart was beating at an alarming rate as I ran down the streets, looking over my shoulder every few seconds. I had no idea what to expect but I knew that it couldn't have been good if I had a gun instead of my daggers. I was about to turn a corner when I heard the click of a gun getting reloaded. I stopped dead in my tracks upon hearing this sound.
"Who's there?" I asked as I slowly put my hands over top of my head, the gun still in my hand.
"Nobody."A familiar voice said and I slowly started to turn around. It turned out to be Sora dressed on all black as well holding a gun up in front of him.
"You aren't going to kill me Sora." I said still holding my hands above his head.
"You don't know what I am capable of Sydney." He said still holding the gun out.
"I don't know that but I do know that you don't want to hurt your friends even if they had done stupid things." I said as I dropped my gun to the floor, rushed towards him, ducking in order to avoid the gun and then slammed my fist into his face. His gun fell to the floor as his hand went up to his face. While his face was covered, I jumped for the gun and held it up, pointed at him.
"You might not be able to kill a friend but I am." I said as I closed my eyes and pulled the trigger. I didn't hear the bang or the gasp that would have happened when the bullet hit Sora. The weight of the gun disappeared from my hand which meant that the scene changed. I opened my eyes to see that I was back in that blue dress I wore at the yule ball and standing on the ledge of a building. I felt my heartbeat increase as I looked at the long way down to the bottom. I hated being in high places. The idea of falling to my death always scared me but that fear just intensified after the plane crash. I stood at the edge for a few more seconds before stepping off the ledge, falling wishing I could glide. I closed my eyes out of fear of what I would see.
"Sydney." I heard somebody say. I let out a shaky breath as I opened my eyes to see I was sitting on a desk in a classroom with Roxas standing in front of me, a worried look across his face. He was wearing black slacks, a white button-up shirt underneath a grey sweater and a light blue tie. I was wearing a light blue plaid skirt, white button-up shirt underneath a grey sweater and a light blue tie.
"What's going on?" I asked as I looked over at him. He sighed as I ran his hand through his hair, messing it up slightly.
"The extra detention that Ms. Kisaragi gave us for lacking emotion in our skit today. She said that we could rework it and perform it for her at the end of the dentition period." Roxas explained as he rolled his eyes.
"I don't want easy. Easy is too boring, too perfect. I want crazy. Somebody that will challenge me to do something that I haven't done before and I have a feeling that this crazy is you." I said as I got up off the desk and headed towards Roxas.
"But what makes you think I want somebody that acts crazy?" Roxas asked as he moved backwards towards the white board.
"Because if you didn't, you wouldn't be here right now." I said as he slammed into the whiteboard. My hands shot up to block his escape routes.
"But I can't leave yet. Things are just getting to the good part." Roxas said as he pressed his forehead against mine. He was so close and I could feel his icy breath on my face. He would have leaned in to kiss me if I didn't pull away.
"I can't do this." I said as i moved towards the other side of the room.
"Why not? Is it because of him?" He asked as he followed me.
"No, it's because you aren't real." I said as I opened the door and ran out of the room. My eyes were shut tight and I could feel the changes occurring around me. My clothing changed into my card keeper outfit and I could feel myself falling. I opened my eyes to see darkness surrounding me. My breathing became shallow and shorter while I panicked and turned my head any way that it would go. The darkness couldn't consume me now. This may not have been real, but it felt like I was losing everything.
"Roxas." I whispered as I closed my eyes one final time. The lights came on in the empty room when I opened my eyes again. I was kneeling on the ground, shaking uncontrollable with my arms gripping onto my shoulder tightly. I let out a breath of relief as I stayed on the ground. Each breath I took was much easier than the last and my body started to relax more.
As the door to the room opened, I stood up and watched was Max, Eric, Four, and other people walked into the room. Four stood there and smiled at me.
"Congratulations, Sydney. You have successfully completed your final evaluation." Eric said.
"Thanks." I said as I smirked at him.
"There is just one more thing before you can get ready for the welcoming banquet." He said as he beckons a woman with blue hair to hand him a black case. He opened it and took out a syringe and a needle. I held in a breath as I watched the orange-brown liquid in the syringe.
"This will inject you with a tracking device that will be activated only if you are reported missing. Just a precaution." Eric stated.
"How often do people go missing?" I asked.
"Not often." Eric smirked. "This is a new development, courtesy of the Erudite. We have been injecting every Dauntless through the day, and I assume all other factions will comply as soon as possible."
"Alright." I said as my throat tightened. I knew that I couldn't allow him to inject me with anything but refusal was not an option. Eric approached me with the needle and syringe in his hands. I flipped my hair away from my neck for him to clean it and then stick the needle in. After he pulled the needle out and stuck a bandage over the injection site.
"the banquet is in two hours. Your ranking among the other initiates, Dauntless-born included, will be announced then. Good Luck." He said before the small crowd filed out of the room. The crowd in the glass room was still there. I pushed my way through the crowd and towards the dormitory. Out of everything, I wanted to skip out on the banquet and go find Sora and Roxas but I need to go then I could go protect them. These next few hours were going to be the hardest hours of my life.
