Rated M for Blood and Gore

Disclaimer: If I owned Soul Eater, there would be more bloodshed.

Chapter 9: Killing is a way of life

"The beautiful part about killing someone with an icicle is the murder weapon melts and then evaporates. And your assassination can be fruit flavored! "
― Jarod Kintz, A Zebra is the Piano of the Animal Kingdom

The gang stared at the board in awe, unable to believe what they were seeing.

Maka Albarn 100 points

Ox Ford 99 points

"Holy Shinigami." Maka said quietly, her eyes wide. "Did I just beat that raging animal?"

"By 1 point? Yes." Soul chuckled, amused and yet proud at his ash-blonde friend who can't seem to face reality.

It had been 2 months since they joined the Death City Association and a week since they took the theory test. The theory test was demanding. You needed a lot of intelligence and flexibility to pass it well. It sets the best from the rest, and the probability of becoming a meister. A ex-slave that joined the school and aced it was unheard of.

"I can't believe that stupid blonde bimbo won!" The bespectacled boy growled, his fist clenched as he stared at the board. His friend Harvard, was patting his shoulder trying to reign in his temper.

"I accept the fact you think that I'm good looking and certainly the scores on the board prove that I'm not dumb, Mr. Second Place." Maka said smugly, her arms crossed over her chest. She had been waiting for the day where she was better at something that Ox hated to lose out. She loathed the comments that he constantly made when the teacher's were not around and that had to end before her gang showed him their interesting moves that they learnt to survive in the circus.

"You probably bribe the teachers with you and your sexual expertise, slave." Ox sneered. "Why don't you be a good girl and bow down to your master?"

Breath in... Breath out... Breath in... Maka chanted, knowing that she didn't want to cause a ruckus, as much as she loved to disfigure his face.

Her gang glanced at her in worry, knowing when she lost it, it wasn't a pretty scene. She was like a monster when she lost herself to the negative emotions, stopping at nothing to take revenge.

Flashback

Tsubaki let out a cry of pain as she slammed against the metal gate. Maka glared at the boy who towered over her friend, her anger oozing out in waves. She was livid - what did the camellia do to get beat up by one of the best fighters to survive? Her eyes twitched as she thought of the ways to end her life, peeved that he was still beating her face while Tsubaki desperately tried to block the blows with her battered and skinny arms.

Yet, there stood Giriko who enjoyed the show at the sidelines. That cruel man that never stopped the torturing others. No heart, no nothing.

Finally when the boy knocked her out, Giriko went into the metal cage and declared him victorious. The crowd cheered for another fight which Giriko happily complied, scanning over the walls to find the perfect candidate. His grin widened as he caught Maka's blazing green eyes, signalling for her to be the next one.

The guards unchained her from the shackles that bounded her to the wall and stood up, ready to beat the boy into a pulp for the injuries he inflicted on her friend. Soul grabbed her hands which she pulled away quickly, but not fast enough to not catch his words.

'Don't let anger consume you.'

She ignored his words as she stepped into the field, making the crowd go wild.

"Easy there!" Giriko's voice boomed. "Since you're so excited, let's bring this fight up a notch. Weapons are allowed! That twist certainly does sound delicious, doesn't it?"

The crowd cheered in approval as both slaves in the cage remained unfazed. Maka's subconsciousness continued to whisper malicious thoughts to her.

End his pathetic life.

Kill him and give them a show.

Slaughter him. Torture him. Make sure he wishes he never lived.

Make him regret what he had done.

She headed over to the set of weaponry and picked up a scythe, swing in around with ease. It was a perfect choice but she slipped a dagger into the waistband of her shorts, just in case. She dragged Tsubaki out of the cage and placed her next to Soul, her eyes pleading him to try to ease her pain for awhile.

The albino boy nodded, asking her to go back to the cage, which she gladly obliged.

Giriko gave out the signal for them to start as he backed away from the pair that was poised to attack, each trying to perceive their opponent's moves. The boy charged at her first with two axes, throwing one in her direction which she swiftly dodged, her scythe still positioned in front of her.

Her enemy let out a battle cry as he lunged at her and tried to land blows on her with the axe as she blocked it skillfully with the pole or the blade. She swung the scythe onto the ground, hoping that it would meet flesh. It sliced into his flesh as he started to bleed, only wincing slightly before he tried to impale the axe into her head.

Before his weapon met its mark she had already used the pole to block it above her head, kicking his gut so that he would back away, giving her some breathing space. She jumped up quickly to her feet before he could recover, charging forward before swinging her scythe such that it seemed to have him hooked.

"Die!" She screamed, bringing her scythe forth and kicking him into the blade's sharp edge, not caring if the blood splattered on her shirt. The boy let out a blood-curling scream as the blade dug into his spine. Taking out the dagger, she stabbed it into his eye before pulling it out, the boy screaming once more as he felt his eyeball getting plucked out.

"Eat your damn eye." She hissed, shoving the dagger down his throat and wrenching the scythe out, standing victorious as metal clanged against the floor, the boy dropping his axes and her, her scythe.

End of Flashback

"You're such a worthless bitch. So what if you only win me by one minor point in a test? You failed at everything else!" Ox taunted, cackling.

Crunch!

Ox let out a howl of pain as Black*Star waved his fist in the air, looking furious. "Tell that to my fist, asshole. You know nothing about my followers. They're hell lot stronger than you are and Maka is stronger than me, the god in terms of personality. So shut the fuck up." He growled.

Maka sighed, tugging on the bluenette's arm. "Let's leave. I don't think he wants to see how lethal we are when it comes to fighting, especially since when you put exactly 103 people to their graves."

"Smooth talk for someone who probably had 20 more deaths on her list." Liz snorted.

"I was there longer than you." Maka snapped. "And it was only like 28 more people! No biggie."

The crowd that gathered looked bewildered and scared at the same time.

"You actually counted?" Soul said in disbelief.

The ash-blonde girl shrugged as if it wasn't anything new. "When you have nothing to do and you're trapped in a cage, you do such things naturally. And most of my counts would only have been hospitalized if they had bothered to give us medical attention."

The gang nodded in agreement.

"How do you guys even get over those deaths? I mean won't there be guilt? And can the other please stop staring?" Tsubaki said nervously.

Some small groups dispersed to the direction of their dorms. Maka's eyes soften at the raven-haired girl's questions. "You don't get over it... You just live with it. But you have nothing to worry though... so far, your record is clean, surprisingly."

"I guess..." Tsubaki drawled out.

"Tsubaki-chan!" Patty interlaced her fingers with Tsubaki's hands. "We've learnt that we were once killing machines to survive and it's about time you admitted it to yourself! No matter what, it's still a part of you."

"We aren't normal after all..." Liz murmured, her hand going to the spot where there were still some scars felt on her head. "We've taken so many lives, for the sake of surviving. It's already a part of us." Liz pressed her hand against her heart. "I've long forgotten the times where we were innocent, all I know now are the ways to kill people."

The pink-haired boy's eyes twitch. He could still hear the whispers of the crowd that tried to find his every weakness. "Shut up, shut up, shut up!" He screamed, throwing his pillow aside.

'Look at that boy! He wears dresses and he's scared of feathers!'

'Pink hair? What a freak. No wonder Medusa no longer wanted him.'

He remembered everything that they had said. He knows that one day someone will help him take revenge. "Lady Medusa... where are you?" He whispered, wishing that the air would ripple and answer him. He hugged the pillow tighter, beads of perspiration trickled down his face as he heard footsteps pass by.

His eyes twitched back and forth, as if things could lurk anywhere. The darkness of the corner was comforting, the light that shown throw the window was alright. The things that could be under the bed terrified him. Those negative emotions pulsed in his black blood and he could hear the echoes of another being living within him.

'I'll live again in this vessel.'

A rather dark chapter, if I say so myself. This book is based on my darkest desire to see blood shed and bad ways to die ;D Guess who the person in the last line was. It was a last minute addition that allowed me to expand the plot a tad bit. Anyways, if you have read Different, you would know this announcement already. Repeating it anyways :3

1. I cannot guarantee how often I can upload. I just rekindled the flame of writing so do not judge me!

2. Mysterious Changes will not be discontinued. HOWEVER, I'm deleting it temporarily as I need to do a lot of re-vamping as I'm currently stuck.

3. Different will continue as per usual, as the plot is already set since I started the book.

4. I will be re-editing SoulxMaka Love is Complicated as have you seen how many grammatical errors there are? Plus, I need to change the P.O.V's of the story.

Fan and favorite if you haven't, recommend this to people who have a strong stomach.

By the will of scythes and daggers, you better come back next time!
