I feel absolutely awful for waiting this long to publish this chapter. I mean I feel REALLY bad. I've started writing two other fan-fictions (which I'm debating on publishing) and I am sort of hooked on writing them. That and my friend has started reading them and keeps wanting me to write more. Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Previously on The Blood Rose

The truck pulled into the school parking lot and inched into a parking space. After the truck had come to a halt, I hopped out, and slammed the cab door shut. My eyes landed on the tires, and found them wrapped in chains. Charlie must have put them on for us.

"Hey Be—" I started to tell her. However, I was cut off by the sound of squealing tires on ice. I whipped around, and found a blue mini-van spinning out of control.

It was spinning my way.

You know how your life is supposed to flash before your eyes in the moments before death, and it feels like time slows down?

Yeah…that didn't happen.

I knew that I should have moved out of the way, but as I watched blue mini-van spiral with shrieking tires towards me, my brain was disconnected from my leg muscles. I was frozen in place, in horror.

A small part of my brain registered the screams of people as they saw what was happening, and the smell of the tires burning wafted under my nose. I was done for.

Suddenly, my brain felt like it had been jolted awake as familiar ice cold hands seized my arms, pulling me out of the way. As the mini-van crashed into the red truck, I laid just feet to the left from where I was once standing, cold arms cradling me. My eyes flickered up, and saw Jasper and his buttery warm eyes gazing down at me with a protective, but terrified look.

"Thank you," I breathed, shakily. I didn't hear him respond, because be it the whole traumatic situation or something else altogether, my mind shut down and I tumbled into darkness.

As my mind gradually crawled out of the black crevice surrounding it, I began to hear a steady beeping noise. As I opened my eyes, I confusedly surveyed my environment. A blue curtain was on my left side, and the entire room was a sterile white. The smell of anesthetics gave me the final clue to where I was: the hospital. In a hospital bed.

I felt eyes on me from my left, so my gaze was soon drawn there, finding Jasper.

"You're awake," his soft tone uttered, leaning a bit forward. "How do you feel?"

I groaned a little in response, sitting up. I looked down, and was relieved to find that I hadn't been stuck in one of those awful hospital gowns. Instead, I was still in the same clothes I was wearing earlier.

"How long was I out?" I wondered aloud, my eyes returning to Jasper.

He thought for a moment, and responded, "About thirty minutes."

"That sounds like a long time for someone who just fainted," I remarked, chuckling to myself.

Jasper grinned in response, telling me, "Well, it could have been all that adrenaline you lost."

I shrugged, and gave him a serious smile as I uttered, "Thank you. For saving me."

"No problem," the honey-haired guy next to me returned. "It was my pleasure."

"What…" I started, curiously watching Jasper. "What happened after I…blacked out?"

"People nearby started crowding around, some called the hospital. Rose, Emmett and Alice rushed over to make sure you weren't hurt. The ambulance came a bit later, and they brought you here. And now here you are."

"My dad knows?"

"He's out in the hall waiting for Carlisle to come back with your blood-work."

"Blood-work?"

"Just testing some things."

I felt my head nod by itself without really meaning to, as anxiety snuck its way into my brain. I gazed up at the ceiling nervously.

After a moment though, the anxiety vanished and tranquility filled its place.

Confusion clouded my tranquil mind as I looked at Jasper, who simply smiled in a way that was apologetic.

"Did you…?" I asked, trailing off in shock.

"Yeah."

"How?" My voice squeaked.

Jasper simply shrugged, and clarified, "It's just one of those things, I guess. Certain vampires have certain…powers. Alice can tell the future. Edward can read minds. I can change or project emotions."

"Please tell me Edward hasn't been reading my mind."

Jasper chuckled a little, and comforted, "No, don't worry, he hasn't. In fact, from what I understand, you and your sister are the only minds Edward can't read."

"Good, because I don't need the teenage hormonal imbalance seeing my private thoughts. Speaking of my sister, where is she?"

"She's out in the lobby with Rose, Emmett and Alice." As he said this, Jasper's eyes held a certain kind of look. A look I didn't quite like.

"What aren't you telling me?" I wondered, crossing my arms in front of me.

Jasper seemed hesitant, but he then remarked in a cautious tone, "After I had saved you from being hit…I felt an overwhelming wave of rage. I looked around, and the closest person was Bella. And she…well, let's just say she made a raging bull look like a pansy."

When he spoke the last part, I couldn't help but snort. When Jasper gave me a strange look, I explained, "I'm sorry. I just really liked your analogy. Granted, it's of my sister, but I still liked it."

A look of half understanding crossed his face as he nodded slowly.

"Yeah, I can be a little weird…a lot," I clarified. "It gets out of hand sometimes."

"Everyone's a little crazy," Jasper stated, grinning.

"So, when you say my sister is angry," I wondered, "you mean she's angry that I almost got hit."

"Um…not really."

Sadness plucked at my heart as I realized what he was implying.

"She was angry…that I didn't get hit."

Jasper remained silent, but the silence was the answer I needed.

"Great," I uttered, frustrated. "Things haven't changed."

"Why do you hate each other?"

"I don't hate Bella. She's my sister. I dislike her because all she seems to feel towards me is animosity. It might be because her mom, who hates me and blames me for my mom's death, raised her to be like that, or because my dad, who I have never met until this year, has gotten me things lately, and she really hasn't. I've stopped asking…excuse my rant."

Jasper shook his head, telling me, "It's all right."

At that moment, the door opened, and in walked my dad and Dr. Cullen, who held a clipboard of papers in his hand.

"Ivy, are you okay?" my dad immediately questioned in worry, grabbing my hand.

"I'm fine," I comforted. "I feel fine."

"Ivy, I'm afraid you're not completely fine," Dr. Cullen spoke, a voice holding the tone of fore-telling of doom.

My dad and I glanced at Dr. Cullen in confusion, my dad inquiring, "What are talking about, Dr. Cullen?"

"I decided to tell you both this at the same time," he told us. To Jasper, he politely asked, "Jasper, will you go out into the hall please?"

"Jasper can stay," I remarked. "Just tell us what you need to say."

Dr. Cullen sighed, and said, "Ivy, when we looked at your blood, and did an analysis, we discovered an abnormal increase of immature white blood cells."

I felt my eyebrows furrow together, as I queried, "What does that mean?"

"It means…that you have leukemia."
