Anakin was the first one to punch full speed into the open-topped cavernous room, several meters ahead of Obi-Wan as he sprinted to get there in time. The sound of spaceship engines roaring to life and getting ready to lift off only increased his fear detrimentally.
As if sensing Luke's pain and fear hadn't been enough.
The blast from the engines sent dirt flying into his eyes as Anakin skidded to a stop inside of the room. He shielded his face, peering up at the ship as it flew away, his son slipping through his grasp at the last possible second. The feeling of failure, of coming so close simply to watch him slip away, was a crushing feeling, one that seemed to steal the air right out of Anakin's lungs. He shoved the feelings aside, knowing now was not the time to drown in those feelings.
"Luke!" he called out again desperately, coughing on the dust in the air. "Luke!"
The dirt was clearing, his son's ship already far out of his reach, and Anakin pushed forward, eyes scanning every inch of the room, fear clutching at his heart the longer he went without a reply.
"Luke!" he all but screamed.
"Anakin," Obi-Wan suddenly called sharply. Anakin turned, startled, to where Obi-Wan stood behind some stalagmites that were by another entrance to the room. He had almost forgotten that Obi-Wan was there.
The look on Obi-Wan's pale face was Anakin's first clue that whatever news he was in for was not going to be good news.
Anakin approached Obi-Wan, who was holding out something cylindrical to him…something familiar…
Luke's lightsaber.
"He's not here," Obi-Wan said quietly, gesturing to the wall. "But he didn't leave without a struggle."
Sure enough, Anakin could already spot the drops of blood speckled on the floor, as well as a small puddle of blood on the ground, and a smear on the wall. Not enough to cause serious alarm, but enough to know that Luke was injured, and that there had been a struggle. Anakin ran a hand down the wall, his vision blurring from unfallen tears he was holding back.
He'd failed Luke. Again. Yet again, Luke had been taken from him. And the pain from that realization stole his breath. He couldn't breathe, couldn't think straight, couldn't hear what Obi-Wan was trying to tell him…
"Anakin," Obi-Wan said, loud and sharp enough that he was able to draw Anakin's eyes to his own. He held up his wrist, though Anakin didn't understand why. All that was there was a small blinking red dot…
"He turned on his homing beacon. We can track him; we can catch up to them," Obi-Wan continued, holding Anakin's gaze.
Anakin glanced back at Nydri, who was sniffing the spot where the ship had been before it took off. "Nydri…come. We're going to find Ahsoka and leave," Anakin told her, his voice shaking a little.
Thankfully, Obi-Wan did not comment on his trembling tone.
The first thing Luke became aware of was that his head throbbed.
As he slowly became aware of himself he noted that he was lying awkwardly on a cold metal floor, his hands bound behind his back. He groaned softly daring to crack an eyelid open before snapping it back shut, the harsh bright light hurting his pounding head. Distantly, it registered in his mind that where Eius and impacted with the side of his skull the hair was damp and matted, most likely from his blood.
Eius.
Suddenly remembering in painful clarity what had happened, Luke tried to stretch out with his senses and see if he could sense his dark self through the Force.
Luke's blood ran cold when he found nothing where he should have found the Force.
Fruitlessly, Luke reached out, groping in the nothingness for the extension of himself he now felt naked without, unable to accept the truth of the matter.
"So, you're finally awake."
Luke froze at the voice. At least he didn't need the Force to figure out who his captor was. That much was obvious.
Luke was rolled over, now met with his own clear blue eyed gaze as Eius studied him closely, having nudged Luke onto his back with the Force.
"It's about time," Eius muttered nonchalantly, eyes returning to the stars going by in hyperspace in front of him.
"Where are you taking me?" Luke moaned, trying to sit up.
"My Master wants to see you," Eius replied. "That's all you need to know."
Luke felt a sickening sensation grow in his gut, trying to push back the fear that was clutching at his heart. "You can't take me to him; he'll kill me!"
"Why should I care?"
Luke felt a flicker of anger at his words. "Because I am you!"
Luke shrank inside a little as some of the lights flickered in the ship. "You are not me!" Eius returned with a hiss.
Despite the fact that he was stepping in a dangerous area early in the game, Luke pressed a little further. "Yes, we are the same. The only difference is that we've lead different lives."
Eius flipped a switch—probably putting the ship in auto-pilot—before he stood up, approaching Luke with an angry swish of his black cape. "You know, I think I liked it better when you were unconscious," Eius said icily.
Luke stared back up at him calmly, refusing to be deterred. "I would have thought you would have realized when you were being lied to. Sidious is just trying to twist you against everyone that wants to help you. Has he even told you what happened to Father on the trip back? Has—"
Luke was suddenly cut off from a hard kick to the gut, trying to suck in air. Eius grasped his chin, forcing Luke to look up at him and watch as the blue eyes slowly turned gold from his anger. "I don't want to hear you call him Father. He's not your Father, he is mine."
Luke gave a bitter smile. "So…you admit you still care?"
Eius made a sound of disgust, tossing Luke roughly back to the floor. Luke's head bounced off the floor with a nasty crack, though Luke retained his consciousness. "I never said I still cared for the man. I'm just tired of you trying to lay claim to what's mine. You have no right."
"That's Sidious talking. It's not what you think. Our—your sister is still your sister. Your parents are still your parents. Everyone has just lead two lives instead of one. Everyone is still themselves; Sidious is just trying to keep you from realizing that, to keep you from breaking free from him."
"Keep your thoughts to yourself, I don't want to hear it," Eius shot back as he returned to his spot at the pilot's seat. "You're not going to change my mind; we're going to see my Master, and I'm handing you over to him."
"If only you realized the mistake you're making…" Luke whispered softly.
Eius simply ignored him.
"I think he might be headed towards Korriban…are they still based there? I was sure that Sidious would have moved to a different position after so long…"
Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Ahsoka were back in the ship, tracking Luke and Eius through the homing beacon that Luke had activated. Anakin was doing his best to not think about the fact that both versions of his son were in Sidious' clutches, instead focusing on where his son could possibly be taking Luke. So far, he didn't like where they were headed.
"Do you think we should call for some help?" Ahsoka asked. "See if someone can come and help us out maybe?"
Anakin hesitated. "It…might be wise. Though I don't know if we can afford to wait for them before confronting…I'd rather get Luke back before they reach Sidious, and hopefully get my son back too."
Ahsoka sighed. "I'll see if we can get someone to meet us on Korriban…if that's where we're going."
"It is," Anakin murmured, watching as Luke's homing beacon grew closer and closer to the Sith planet. He pinched the bridge of his nose, silently praying to the Force that Luke would be all right, that they would be able to reach him in time.
To pass the time, Luke focused inside himself, constantly searching for the return of his connection of the Force. He couldn't stand to be so sensually blind at the moment, not while he was captive and unaware of where he was being brought. Was his homing beacon still activated? Had Eius found it and deactivated it, or was it still going?
Finally, Luke felt something; a sliver of his connection with the Force returning. Closing his eyes to appear like he was resting, Luke latched onto his slight connection, savoring it and doing his best to keep his regained sensitivity from Eius. He could sense the dark side all around him, which gave him all the more reason to stay drawn into himself.
Nothing good is going to come from this, Luke suddenly thought. If I'm not somehow rescued before we make it to Korriban…I have the feeling that this time…this time I'm not going to be lucky…
"You've been unusually quiet," Eius suddenly quipped. Luke opened his eyes, realizing that Eius had once more set the ship to auto-pilot and was standing over him once more.
"I figured I needed to gather up my strength if you really do plan on dragging me to Sidious," Luke replied calmly, keeping his slight connection to the Force as tightly to himself as possible.
"Get up," Eius suddenly snarled, grabbing Luke's arm. "I'm going to have to keep a closer eye on you aren't—"
He cut off, and Luke felt himself break out in a cold sweat. Hopefully Eius didn't notice, though at the same time Luke was sure that didn't matter anymore.
Sure enough, Eius' face twisted up in fury. "Why you kriffing—"
Luke stopped the act, focusing entirely on keeping the homing beacon he was sure Eius had just discovered out of his reach. Luke yanked free, sweeping one of Eius' legs out from under him. Dizziness immediately tried to overwhelm him, though Luke kept going, letting his foot fling out to connect with what he hoped with Eius' jaw. He tried to break his bonds, backing away from Eius and leaning against the wall as he gathered himself, his vision swimming. He wasn't in any condition to make an escape, but he had to do something.
Eius was on his feet again, throwing himself at Luke, who rolled out of the way before ramming his shoulder into Eius a moment later. However, Luke had lost the element of surprise, and with his hands bound behind his back and so little of a Force connection, he did not have a way to last much longer. Still, he fought, even with so little hope.
Eius came at him once more, and Luke lashed out with a kick, though Eius grabbed his ankle, coming down hard on Luke's leg. Luke couldn't stop himself from screaming as he felt the bone break, crumpling to the floor in agony as Eius landed two more blows; Eius' elbow to Luke's side, and a hard punch to the side of Luke's face. He cried out again, feeling despair rip through him as the homing beacon was ripped off of his person, officially in Eius' clutches. Panting lightly, Eius clenched his fist, shattering the miniscule device in a seemingly effortless movement. Luke, meanwhile, continued to gasp in pain on the floor.
"There…we don't want any party crashers where we're headed, now, do we?" Eius stepped over Luke as he spoke, crossing the room somewhere out of Luke's visual range. "Besides…I think it's time for your medicine."
The last part came out practically in a snarl, and Luke was yanked up by his hair with a cry, his broken leg twisting painfully as Eius partially held him up. Luke cried out once again as a needle was shoved into his neck, and something was injected into his bloodstream. He received his answer as to what the mysterious substance inside was with Eius' next words.
"We don't need two of us drawing on the Force at once now, do we?"
"Force suppresser," Luke groaned out, biting his lip until he tasted blood to keep from crying out as he got situated into a much more comfortable position, disrupting his broken leg in the process.
"What else?" Eius responded lightly, returning to his spot at the pilot seat. "Now…why don't you be a good prisoner and try not to cause any more trouble, hmm?"
Anakin startled everyone with his sudden cry of despair. However, Obi-Wan's unspoken question was answered with a simply glance to where Luke's homing beacon signal had been not moments before.
It was gone.
"No, no, no, no, no! We just had him! How could we lose him? Where did he go?" Anakin cried out.
Ahsoka appeared from the back where she had been making the call for assistance. "What happened?"
"Luke's homing beacon stopped. We lost him," Obi-Wan replied grimly.
Ahsoka grimaced. "Do we have any idea where they were headed?"
"I'm almost positive it was Korriban," Anakin stated, studying the space where the signal had disappeared. "Though now that he knows we were tracking them…I don't think they'll be on Korriban long. If we can't catch them before they leave the planet, we'll be back to square one; searching the whole kriffing Galaxy for them."
"We'll make it Anakin, don't worry," Obi-Wan tried to reassure him. "Besides, Luke is strong. No matter what happens, he'll hold out until we get there, I know he will."
"I just hope he doesn't have to wait too long," Anakin murmured.
