After Ever After: Chapter 5: Ethan Enchanted

Rory woke up to dreary whiteness as he stirred a bit, groaning. Where was he now?

He looked around and everything he once knew and saw from the burning realm was now in an infinite whiteness. It was basically a huge blank space. (And I'll write your name! Jokes...I couldn't help it...)

Rory frantically searched for the pen as he started to write. But before he did, he stopped, halted by a voice in the darkness, er, blankness.

"It has been so long since I've seen a child..."

Rory's eyes widened as he was drawn to the voice in the emptiness. He stood up shakily as he heard it once more.

"Stay with me..." It howled, the whisks of the white world Rory knew swirling around him. Rory looked around frantically as he saw a dark, hooded figure emit from the whiteness.

"Relaxed are you...in this dreary white tomb...a sleep you'll keep...no person shall weep...your death is final...and I shall keep my deadly title!"

Rory swayed to the right as he collapsed to the ground, completely motionless. The dark shadow grinned.

He is gonna stay there for a while.

The moonlight shone on the beach as Erica dragged Benny onto the shore. He was barely breathing as she wiped the wet hair out of her eyes. She looked at Benny frail body and started mouth to mouth CPR.

She breathed in for Benny as she pumped his chest firmly. After doing this about five times, Benny sucked in a huge breath as he spit out water. Erica slithered back to the water as Benny frantically looked around, hyperventilating.

"E-Erica..." He wheezed, coughing heavily. Erica peeked out from above the calmed waters as she groaned.

"I'm a mermaid. A mermaid for all heaven's sake!" She cried out loud. Benny nodded.

"I can see that." Erica looked at him in disbelief as he rose his hands to the air in defeat.

"Listen. It is important that we stay calm here. That way, we won't die. Let us just think about what has happened." Erica frowned, deeply in thought.

"It is obvious Stephanie is already starting this uproar in Whitechapel. And all those shadow creatures are disguised with color." Benny frowned.

"There is only one way to bring color to shadows, and that is by using someone's magic. It has to be stored and kept, and it has to be pretty powerful." Benny recited, as if he read it from a book. Erica frowned.

"So Stephanie has someone's powers. Who?" Benny shrugged. "I don't know. But we will find out soon I guess..." Erica sighed. "So how do we fix me?" She asked, waving her tail around. Benny's eyes widened.

"Right. I can actually fix that." He said proudly. He whispered a spell uneasily and shot Erica with it in the chest. A blinding flash of light surrounded the two as Erica's legs returned. Erica climbed out of the water as she grinned.

"Nice one Benny. Actually, fantastic!" Erica said, to no one actually. Erica looked around when she heard no response.

"Benny?" She asked to the air. No answer. She looked around frantically now, starting to panic.

"Benny? Benny where are you?" Suddenly, a white, majestic horse appeared from the bushes near the harbor. She gasped as she saw the rider.

"B-Benny?" Benny said no answer as he unconsciously fell off the horse. Erica gasped as the majestic horse slithered into a deep, dark shadow. Erica gasped as the Shadow horse neighed maniacally as it galloped off. Erica watched Benny land on the sand, her hearing a small thud. Erica rushed to his side as he groaned.

"God...remind me never to do that spell EVER again." He said painfully. Erica kissed him briefly as she sighed.

"You are okay. What happened to you?" She asked. Benny shrugged as he slowly got up.

"I don't know, but all I know is that my shoulder hurts like crazy. Maybe Grandma knows what happened." He said sullenly, rubbing his shoulder. Erica shrugged as she lifted up the sleeve of Benny's shirt. When it was fully rolled up, she gasped.

"B-Benny..what the hell is on your shoulder."

Benny glanced at his shoulder and his eyes widened at a dark and shadowy scar on his shoulder blade. It gashed right through his skin, but instead of bleeding, all around it was dark. Benny;s eyes widened as he desperately tried to wipe it away. But he had no luck as Erica groaned, standing him up.

"We are going to your grandma's. I think she has an explanation to all this." Benny nodded, and he looked around fearfully as they walked out of the harbor and to his house. His thoughts raced.

He was already injured.

He almost drowned.

And Erica was about to be like a fish.

On top of all that, Stephanie was starting a war.

What could happen next?

Jane drearily woke up as she blinked wildly. Where was she? Where was Gaston? She could really slap him right now...

She took the time to take in her surroundings as she looked around her. She stared at her hands and tried yanking them free. But it was no use. The shadow bindings were too strong. She also was in a steel reinforcement, a prison almost. Steel bars sliced through Jane and the room as she desperately tried to escape. But her powers were drained and she had no use in escaping. It was useless.

The doors of the room suddenly opened as she saw a shadowy figure entered the room. Jane's eyes narrowed to try and make out the figure. She growled when she saw the familiar black cloak she wore and the familiar streaks of blonde and grey hair. She growled.

"What do you want with me Stephanie?!" She hissed. Stephanie cackled as she paced the room sneakily.

"Revenge." She said sneakily, checking her nails mockingly. Jane sighed. "Let me go and get out of Whitechapel." She said, slight authority to her voice. Stephanie looked at Jane in disbelief as she smiled.

"Now since when did Miss. Morgan get an attitude? Did Gaston change you? Tell me, how is the experience of love?" She asked teasingly. Jane was on the verge of tears.

She never experienced a love like it. She always knew that love was something her brother was obsessed with. And now that she experienced it, she never wanted to let it go. When she found out the truth, it took all her power to not cry. She really wished that she could experience love for real. It was terrible. She wanted love more than anything. And now that she let it go, she wanted to cry.

"Speechless?" She asked mockingly. Jane wiped a tear that rolled down her cheek as she masked her pain with fury.

"Stop trying to break me down Stephanie. What do you want from me? From Whitechapel? " Jane asked. Stephanie shrugged.

"I don't know..." She said mockingly. "I'm surprised that you haven't figured out yet." She cackled once more as Jane growled.

"What is revenge anyway?" She asked. Stephanie stuck her hand through the gaps of the shadowed bars and stroked Jane's chin mockingly.

"On you. On your family. They owe me." She said furiously, the scar on her face itching her again. Jane's eyes widened.

"You stay away from me. From Whitechapel. From MY FAMILY." She growled. Enraged, Stephanie shot a spell at Jane, that hit her in the chest. Jane cried out in pain as she crumpled to the ground, the shadow handcuffs and chain keeping her up. Everywhere hurt.

"W-Why my family? What have they done? What do you want from them?" She managed to whimper out. Stephanie smiled as she turned away from Jane.

"You."

Benny and Erica gathered in the Weir residence as Evelyn examined the scar on Benny's shoulder. She sighed.

"I don't know what it is. But I will try to fix it. In the meanwhile, stay safe. Your injuries are getting worse and worse every time you come. I don't want to spend time mending your mistakes." She paused before heaving a sigh.

"I don't want to lose you either." She whispered. Benny rolled down his sleeve and hugged his grandmother tightly.

"I promise." He said solemnly. Evelyn nodded as she continued.

"So. Tell me what happened." Erica then started to retell all the events that had happened beforehand.

"This girl. She was..vibrant. Colorful sort of. She was very pretty." Erica said. "But she blasted me in the chest and into the sea. I turned into a mermaid." She said. Benny nodded.

"Then, the girl...threw up shadows. Dark and twisted ones. She was an illusion. A shadow puppet. Stephanie must have conjured some up. Then everything went kinda blank from there." He recalled his own memories. Evelyn nodded.

"So it is obvious that Stephanie took someone's magic. In order to bring color to shadows, you need some powerful magic. Not too powerful, but powerful enough to restore color and nature to a dark and lifeless shadow." She said firmly. Benny pulled out his phone and opened an app. His fingers typed furiously as Erica frowned.

"What's that?" She asked. Benny shrugged, eyes glued to the screen.

"It's an app me, Ethan and Rory designed. Basically, you can type anyone's name here and it shows what the person is as a supernatural creature, and how they got it. For example, if I didn't know I was a spellmaster, I would type in my name and it would show that I'm a spellmaster, and I got it from, these people. It will show the supernatural origins of some people." He said as he clicked enter. Erica looked at it in awe.

"So why do you need it?" She asked in curiosity. Benny sighed, looking up at Erica.

"Well, Jane was kidnapped by Stephanie. I want to know why. And the best place to start is by finding supernatural origins...oh my." He trailed off, almost dropping his phone. Erica looked at him in worry.

"What?" She asked. Benny remained silent. "What is it?" She asked again. Benny took a deep breath and looked at Erica.

"Ethan and Jane's parents...are spellmasters.

Ethan walked the school alone, hands dug in his pocket.

He was going to the library to research some stuff for his school project. He buried his thoughts into finding his sister, and the sudden uprising in Whitechapel. As he turned a corner, he bumped into someone. He groaned as the girl grinned.

"Hey Ethie." Hannah whispered seductively. "Hungry?" Hannah twirled a blood red apple on her finger as Ethan backed up slowly, not wanting this interference right now.

"What do you want?" He asked, terror leaking through him. She smirked.

"She wants revenge. On you. For what your parents did." She said evilly, a shadow rising in her eyes. Ethan frowned. "What did they do?" He asked curiously. Hannah shrugged playfully. "Swore I never would tell." She said, approaching Ethan slowly. Ethan knew this was a sign of danger and he turned on his heel and started to run. But one voice stopped it all.

"Ethan. Eat this apple."

Ethan's eyes glowed black as he turned around, slowly approaching Hannah and the apple. Her arm was extended as Ethan grabbed the apple out of her possession. With a shaky hand, he rose the apple to his lip and shut his eyes, as if he were to experience something deadly.

And he bit it.

His pearl teeth broke through the blood red skin of the apple as he chewed, swallowing it shortly after. Hannah cackled as she was suspended in the air.

"So long, Ethie!" She said mockingly, disappearing in a flash.

Ethan on the other hand, was dizzy as he swayed a bit. His mind was foggy as the poison settled in and took toll on Ethan. He slumped against the wall as he pushed himself back up. The world around him spin as he took one last look at the apple he held. He closed his eyes.

He collapsed on the spot, the apple rolling out of his limp hand.
