Another Chance

Okay guys, this time, a warning: This chapter contains content that's a little bit more mature. Nothing too explicit but fair warning to you younger ones out there. I mean come on, it's Gold. Our infamous teenage playboy. Being 21 doesn't make him mature. It's Crystal who does. Which is what this story is about. Now let's get this story started

As I'm on stage singing our song with you playing the keyboard in front of me, I remember our days together. Back in high school, when we were still young, we used to be so close. So close, until I shattered this special relationship we had. I was so young and so dumb. I think you'd call it being naive. I don't know. I was never good with words. My high school English grade is proof.

I finished our song and the club went wild, like usual. "Thanks everybody! Maybe it was the alcohol I had, but you all look damn fine tonight, especially that group of ladies at the bar. Let's get this party started!" I signed off and put down my drum sticks and got off the stage. I looked back at you and saw you chatting up with Silver. You two haven't told me yet, but I know you two are hitting it off. I just know. I know where your attention is. I know it's not on me anymore. I made my way to the ladies at the bar and they started flirting with me. I ordered some more alcohol from Wally and downed it. The girls cheered me on. Now, these girls had the looks and I was a drunken 21 year old. It's not like I'm your man anymore. So I allowed myself a good night back in my apartment with these girls.

The next morning, I woke up late with a terrible hangover. There was a girl from last night, next to me, with only the blanket covering her. This is the same bed I had my best times with you. There was two people on here then, there are two people on here now. Then why? This is the same bed but why does it feel just a little bit bigger now? I sighed and got up to go to the bathroom. I splashed my face with cold water. I could hear the girl stir as she woke up. I suddenly hoped she knew I wasn't serious about her. I don't think I'm serious about anyone. I walked back to the bedroom to see her getting dressed. She saw me.
"Oh, good morning. Don't worry, I'm leaving soon," she smiled. I smiled back. Good. It seems she knew.
"Should I drive you?" I asked out of the little courtesy I had left.
"Nah, it's alright," she replied just as she finished applying her makeup. "Okay, bye! Hope to see you again!" she said, leaving me alone.

The hangover still bothered me as I made my way to the couch. I found the remote under a cushion and flipped on the TV. Nothing good was on. I turned it off. I lied down on the couch as another headache came to me. Along with the headache, memories.

-Flashback-

The phone rang and rang but I decided to ignore it. I was curled up in my bed on a cool winter afternoon. Nothing could get me out of the warmth. The phone rang again for the hundredth time and I was tired of it. I stuck out my arm and reached for the device playing Bruno Mars over and over again. Then I jolted up. Bruno Mars. The voice that'll only come out when you called. Shit. I hurriedly grabbed the phone and answered it.
"H-Hello?" my voice was a bit rasp and timid. There was no doubt I was going to get a scolding from you.
A sigh was heard, followed by your voice, "Hello Gold. Would you like to care to tell me how many times I called you already?"
I cringed. The phone left my ear and I checked the home screen, '18 missed calls' Crap. "Umm, eighteen?" I said back to the phone.
"Oh good. You can read. Now are you going to leave your bed or am I going to spend Christmas alone?"

That's right. Today was Christmas. I was supposed to take you to the Christmas ball Uptown. Double-crap.
"Uh, I'm on my way! Give me ten minutes! No more! I promise!" I said and hung up. I got dressed in a suit and ran water and gel over my bed head. Grabbing my wallet and keys, I ran to where we were supposed to meet up.

I arrive there, out of breath. I see you sitting on a ledge, wearing a pretty party dress, no doubt the one I made Ruby buy with me. That dress was probably the few gifts I got you.
"About time you got here. Blue has been calling me for the past five minutes. She's complaining we are late. Come on," you said, grabbing my arm and dragging me into the reception hall. Inside, a lavish ballroom was decorated with Christmas decorations and streamers. Next to the floor to ceiling windows stood a tall evergreen tree with lights and ornaments parading around it. "Wow," you breathed, "Blue has really outdone herself this time." I could only nod in agreement. Speaking of the devil, the woman bounced happily towards us holding a shot glass with Green following suit.
"Glad you guys could finally show up. What happened, Gold? Too much booze last night?" Blue asked.
"Nah, I saved myself for tonight. Is that vodka? And I heard you got some imported whiskey?" I questioned.
Before Blue could reply, you jabbed me in the stomach. "You're in high school, genius," you warned.
Blue and I looked at each other and laughed. "Since when has age prevented me from doing something?" I asked with a tint of sarcasm.
"Aw, come on, Crysie. It's Christmas! Let loose a little! You are like a female Green sometimes," Blue complained.
Your eyes widened and looked at our male senior. He shrugged as if to say, "you'll learn to live with it."
I gave out a laugh and grabbed Blue by the wrist. "Sorry, senior. I'd have to borrow your girlfriend for a while. Now, Blue, about that whiskey?" I said, dragging her away, leaving you with Green. Big mistake on my part.

At the bar, Blue took a bottle of 1980 Whiskey out and popped it open. She poured two glasses and pushed one towards me. We cheered and downed our drink. The burning sensation of the alcohol ran smoothly down my throat. "So," Blue said as she refilled our drinks, "how is Crys still with you?" The question surprised me. I never thought of that matter before. I shrugged and drank the second glass of whiskey. Blue slapped me behind the head once I was done. "Don't shrug at my questions. I want to know why Crys choose you. You're always tardy, impolite, and dumb. What is a star student like her doing with you?" she asked. Blue made me realize I have no idea why we were dating. I sucked at everything and you excelled in everything. I took the bottle from her and poured another drink. "I told her that I thought she was pretty and she accepted me. Easy as that. And I think you've had too many drinks Blue," I said before drinking again.
"No I haven't. So you like her for her looks? Come on, Gold. She has a million things that make her awesome. Name them. I dare you," Blue taunted. I opened my mouth, but no words came to mind. I took another drink. Blue grabbed the bottle from my hands and slammed it on the table. "You idiot. Men! ARGH!" she screamed. Yup, she was drunk. Green rushed to us and grabbed her flailing arms. He kissed her on the lips and Blue quieted down. "Excuse her. Too many drinks tonight. Come on, you Pesky Woman," Green said.
"But Greeeennn," Blue wailed. Green started to drag Blue to a private room to do God knows what. I took another drink as I thought about what the drunken Blue had said. I continued to finished the open bottle of alcohol. Last thing I remember was you coming up to me and sitting down. You stared sadly at the dance floor with all the couples in it. You kept glancing at me, as if trying to say something. But I never got the simple hint. You sighed at looked intently at the dancers. "Gold," you called my name and I looked up from my drink, "Let's break up."

-End of Flashback-

I awoke on my couch, dripping in cold sweat. The sun was high in the sky now. I got up once more and put on some clothes. The crisp fall breeze blew in my face. It was almost 6 years since that day. Blue and Green already got married, Red and the girl that helped him when Misty died, Yellow, were now happily dating, and you and Silver were getting closer and closer. I sighed. Lingering on the past wouldn't get me anywhere. But that dream... no, it was a recollection. A recollection of my stupidity. Reminding me how dumb I was... am.

It was late October. And it was Little Miss Platina's birthday. As always, she held a huge ball. Platina was so famous that even reporters came to witness the event. We were invited to play a tune or two. What we produced wasn't her cup of tea, but apparently, she knew Red since they were small. After our songs, we enjoyed the party like the other high class folks in the room. The rest of the time, songs were being played by an orchestra of violins, flutes, and all the fancy stuff. To my enjoyment, they didn't just play classical tunes. Surprisingly, the instruments were able to produce sounds of pop and rock music. We were served booze I could only dream of ever affording. I've got to hand it to Platina. That girl knew how to buy alcohol. As I was happily enjoying a 1962 bottle of wine, one song came on that broke through my buzzed bliss. The orchestra of string instruments played the familiar tune and couples started to smile and join together. I looked at the dance floor and see Red and Yellow; Green and Blue; and other familiar couples dance to the slow song. Everyone, even Green, had a smile on, though in his case, it was more of a small smirk.

And then I saw you. Silver was nowhere to be found. I sat there debating whether or not I should take you on a spin on what used to be our song. I decided against it. After all, that is now Silver's job. But your face. It was the same. The same as 6 years ago when we broke up.

Silver then came out of a room next to the bar and we both spotted him immediately. Your face lit up at the sight of him, but mine darkened because of where his hands where. His left in his pockets and his right was tightly wrapped around the hand of a girl who I recognized as a reporter. I sprang up, rushing towards Silver and pushing him towards the wall, making him release the grip of the girl.

A flash of confusion appeared on his face before anger replaced it. "What the hell are you doing you idiot?!" he growled at me.
"I could very well ask you the same thing! How could you! She waited for you!" I yelled in his face. I felt the whole room stop just to stare at my fight. Even you were watching with wide eyes.
"What the fuck are you talking about? You're drunk." Silver lightly pushed me back. True, even I could smell the alcohol on my breath. But my head couldn't be more clear.
"You know very well what I'm talking about!" I said before I punched him in the face. Okay, maybe I was a bit drunk. I sober me would know I could never win against Silver in a fight if he tried. He had too many experiences under him belt.

Gasps were heard and Blue started to rush towards us, fearing the storm ahead. Silver reached up to feel the blood from his cut lip. Murder was in his eyes and it wasn't a group of his pet crows. He silently moved, fists ready to take the life out of me. But I was braced. "Stop!" you said, clinging to his raised arm. "Calm down, Silver! You know he's not thinking straight!" you pleaded, words stinging my heart.
"No. Crystal. I'm very much sober right now." I lied.
Silver tried to lunge at me again but this time, Blue stopped him. "Come on, Silver. Remember what I taught you. Breathe. Control. Don't let him win." she whispered.
Silver closed his eyes and breathed deeply. He backed away from the frail arms between me and him but the murder never left his eyes. The reporter girl snaked her hand into Silver's and squeezed it. Which only made me angrier. "How could you cheat on her?!" this time, I was the one who lunged into the arms of barricade but this time, more arms were pulling me back.

All that arose was confusion on everyone's faces. "Cheating? On who?" Silver asked.
I didn't say anything and only flicked my eyes at you. You eyes widened and I couldn't tell what you were thinking. Then you laughed. Loudly and wholeheartedly. This time, confusion felt on my own face.
"Why are you laughing? What's so funny?" I questioned, as you could barely contain yourself.
"Oh, Gold. Silver and I aren't dating. We never were." you explained, which was music to my ears. My knees felt week and I collapsed on the floor.
"What? But... I saw you... you were happy..." I spit out the sights I saw.
"Happy? Well, I was setting him up with my dear cousin! Of course I was giggly. You know me," you pointed to the reporter girl.
"HER?"
"Shut up." Silver demanded, the murder disappearing from his eyes. His face sported a blush as he squeezed the reporter's hands.
"It's a long story..." your cousin chuckled.
"So... You're not dating Silver?"
"Gold... I haven't dated anyone since you. I told you. I needed to focus on college."
This was news to me, "wait... so you didn't break up with me because I didn't treat you right?"
Blue facepalmed, "Okay. Someone clearly was too drunk and lost his memory of his own break up. Let's leave these two to figure this out and enjoy the rest of the party the Little Miss had planned out." She shooed away the other guests and we were alone in the corner.
You sighed and asked, "So you don't remember?"
"I remember you saying that you want to break up and the next thing I know I wake up in my apartment."
You shook your head in disbelief and explained that you broke up with me to focus on college. And how I threw a fit and she had to have Green and Red send me home.

"So I didn't fuck up our relationship?"
You shook your head once again, "I would have liked it if you paid more attention to me, but no, you didn't cause our break up."
I pulled you into an embrace I held back for 6 years. We stayed like this for a while until I finally spoke, "Hey... can you give me another chance? To pay more attention to you?"
You sat in my arms with your head to the crook of my next, "Hmmm..." you mumbled as if thinking, "sure. Why not?"
I smiled the biggest, realest smile I had on my face for a long time.
"Then let me start here..." I got up as another slow song started playing.
"May I have this dance?"

A/N: And done! Sorry. I didn't realize how long I had neglected this story. But yay for Gold! I'm happy for you. This story made me fall a little bit harder for Mangaquest. What's next? Commoner? Ayee, Butler x Oujosama timee~ See you then!
