After Ever After: Chapter 6: The Battle Begins

Mr. Morgan rang on the doorbell, his heart racing as Mrs. Morgan stood beside him, groaning.

"Ross, there has to be a better plan than this." She said wearily. Mr. Morgan shook his head as he looked at his wife. "There is no better way Samantha. She obviously messed with the wrong family." He said in determination.

The door swung open and Ross and Samantha were greeted by the face they never thought they'd see again.

"Hello Mr and Mrs. Morgan. Such a grand joy to see you." Stephanie said, a twinkle of evil in her eyes. Ross growled.

"I know you have Jane. And I want her back." He sneered. Stephanie cackled evilly, her eyes piercing the two. "You know I can't do that. You guys have done too much to me..." Samantha sighed. "That is our own fault! And it gives you no reason to backlash at our kids!" She shot back. Stephanie sighed, waving her hand goodbye.

"You are too late. You will have to find something more powerful to stop me." She said, cackling as she slammed the door on them. A force blasted the two off her porch, slamming them onto the front lawn. Ross sighed.

"Are you okay?" He asked. Samantha nodded tiredly. "Yes." She answered as she stood up, Ross following. She smoothed out her clothes as she sighed.

"We have to tell them." Ross shook his head. "No! They weren't supposed to get involved, and I won't let them." He said firmly. Samantha sighed as she and Ross walked away, their minds drawing to a plan.

Rory opened his eyes tiredly, his mind foggy and his view swarming through his mind. Everything looked foggy and not as bright, but Rory was able to get a close view of where he was.

He looked around and he seemed like he was in a cottage of some sort. He didn't know where, but he smelled...a lot of sweetness. Some icing, gingerbread, maybe even some gummy bears. Whatever it smelled like, it smelled like food. And Rory was all for food right now.

"Hello?" He asked. Suddenly, a deep and demonic voice entered the cheery demeanor of the room.

Don't think I am gonna let you go so easily. You who are forbidden to leave, will stay. You who are forbidden to true love, will be heartbroken. You who are forbidden to the truth will be lied to. Be careful...and my warning bid you your survival.

Rory shivered at the voice. It was terrible and evil, and it sounded dreary and dangerous. Rory tried to find bare his surroundings and tried to figure out where he was. Then, it suddenly clicked in his mind.

Hansel and Gretal.

The gingerbread house, the smell, the longing of a child, it all made sense. He was in the famous folktale about the young siblings who were almost devoured by a witch by being drawn to a house of candy.

Rory started to panic; Della was supposed to be his Gretal, and she was no where to be found. So what was he to do?

"Hello child, awoken from slumber..."

A raspy and low voice suppressed from behind Rory as he frighteningly looked around. Who could it be...he had a feeling he knew.

"S-Stay away from me..." Rory said, feeling something heavy in the tunic he wore. He stuffed his hand in the pocket to feel a strange sensation. He pulled some of the object out to view and gasped as he looked at the familiar silver blade.

The dagger.

He couldn't believe that it was still with him, even after all that what happened. Rory was thankful of course, but he was sorta confused. Maybe he had some special connection with it or something.

The witch had strings of silver hair and held a broom like it was a weapon. Her back was curved and hunched as Rory gulped. The witch opened a fireplace as she smiled evilly.

"It has been so long since I have heard from a child. Stay with me child..." She sneered. Rory gripped onto the knife as he stood his ground. If he was to escape the fairytale realm once and for all, he would have to fight back.

He would have to break free from the bindings that kept him in the fairytale realm.

He would have to break some rules.

Rory roared as he drew out the knife and stabbed the witch in the chest. Things around him started to burn and crisp as the witch cried out in agony and shriveled to ash. Rory looked at the ashes in fear and accomplishment all in one as he ran out the door, grabbing a gummy bear on his way out.

The whole forest around him started to burn and its ashes flowed through the wind. Rory couldn't see among the wind and leaves, but he saw the familiar blue force field around the forest. Heading for west, he started to run as fast as he could, flames at his heels ready to engulf him. Sweat beaded his forehead from the heat and the exhaustion as he drew out the rusted blade and surged it through the force field, shattering it in an instance.

He felt the white coming as paper filled the trees and leaves. He closed his eyes once more as he was engulfed into whiteness.

When he came to, he saw the familiar space of white. He knew that he had to work fast; if nothing was happening, it must've meant Stephanie was busy and she wasn't keeping track of where he was.

He fumbled around his pocket for a pen as he felt a wind flow through him. Stephanie was flipping pages on the other side of the world, furious to see Rory escaped again.

Rory finally found a pen and furiously started to write.

A guy was in a white place... He wrote, knowing how bad that sounded. Not like a fairytale at all! Oh how he would pay for Jane to be here right now...

The wind continued to blow as Rory was thrown to the side. He grasped onto his pen as he continued to write shakily, a scar on his cheek reopening.

And he was really scared. He was so awesome though, he managed to get out and back into Benny's attic at least.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

A voice shrieked in the background as Rory was engulfed into a blackness once more.

Sarah walked out of class and went straight to the bathroom. She really was worried about Ethan not being in class, and she was worried that something or someone had caught him with another obeying demand.

Sarah wandered the halls, looking left and right as she finally heard a steady breath from one of the corridors. She raced the halls and gasped, tears threatening to fall as she saw what she saw in front of her.

Ethan was sound asleep, an apple rolling out of his hand and Ethan was surrounded by dark shadows. Sarah tried to reach his side, but the flames of Shadows engulfed Ethan as she hissed, a burn on her skin as she pulled back.

Don't think you would be let off so easily. A demonic voice echoed the empty halls, a voice only Sarah could hear. You who are forbidden to awake will sleep. You who are forbidden to kiss will be forced to watch the one you love sleep for eternity's bliss. You who are forbidden to a life of love will be rewarded with pain all your life.

Sarah broke down into tears as she started to cry once more, drowning in her tears. Someone must've heard the crying, because Sarah could hear footsteps in the halls. She stood up shakily as she looked around to see Benny. Sarah looked at Ethan once more, then to Benny as she started to cry some more. Benny saw Ethan around the shadows as he ran to Sarah and held her tight.

"Kiss him Sarah." He panted. "You are his true love and you know that." Sarah sniffed back tears. "I tried to go near him, but the shadows around him are blocking me. They hurt Benny. And now Ethan is completely trapped. I can't do anything about it!" She wailed. Benny quieted her down as he soothed her quietly, his shoulder hurting more than it should.

"Relax Sarah. Everything is going to be alright, okay?" He said. Sarah nodded as Benny whispered a teleportation spell and teleported them all to Benny's house.

Erica had arrived to check on Ethan's condition as Evelyn groaned. Ethan was laid on the couch, shadows surrounding him as everyone sat on the couch opposite to Ethan, staying away from all the shadows. She sighed.

"I cannot believe Stephanie. Why would she place a curse on the Morgan's?" She asked. Benny frowned. "Curse?" He asked. Evelyn nodded. "Well, Jane is gone, Ethan's asleep, and their parents are spellmasters with no powers. What is your definition of curse?" She snapped. Benny nodded in realization, not saying anything to upset his grandmother any more than she was. Evelyn saw Benny cower in the couch as she sighed.

"I am sorry for snapping at you Benny. You know I don't mean it." Benny nodded, sipping some green tea. "I know. Things have been rough, and I need to figure out that I am not the only one suffering." He said apologizing. Erica rubbed his shoulder.

"Hey Benny, you know it is okay." She said, rubbing circles in his back. Benny nodded as his elbow accidentally knocked the water out of Erica's hand, making it spill all over her lap. She yelped as she felt a magical sensation through her legs. Her jeans were replaced by a patch of orange scales for a mere second as the water dried out and the jeans turned to normal. Erica looked at her jeans in shock.

"Wait, what just happened?" She asked timidly. Sarah shrugged. "You were in contact with water for a split second, and your jeans turned all..scaly. Weird." She noted. Erica sighed as she looked at Benny, who face palmed.

"Of course the spell failed." He groaned. Evelyn looked at her grandson as he took a breath.

"I cast a spell that would put Erica out of her mermaid form, but since mermaids turn back to their form when they are made contact with water. I didn't know it would still do that, but I guess it did." Erica sighed. "A darn good thing that I didn't take a shower." She groaned. Flynn the puppet sat on the couch as he smirked.

"Makes sense." He joked. Erica growled, hissing at the Pinocchio puppet. "Shut up." She sneered. The puppet laughed as a blast was heard from the attic. Benny suddenly cried out in pain as he collapsed to the ground, gripping onto his shoulder. Erica looked at Benny in shock as she tried to sooth his cries. Evelyn casted a spell on Benny, and Benny's head limply lolled onto Erica's hand, unconscious. Evelyn sighed.

"He'll calm down now. The mark on his shoulder is a shadow blade." She said to the two girls. Erica's eyes widened. "What is that?" She asked curiously. Evelyn sighed.

"It is a mark of a shadow that allows any shadow enter his skin and invade his body. It is different from a shadow possessing a body since they have a reason. But when this happened, shadows are free to attack Benny, and he is vulnerable to any pain from a shadow. It is dangerous, but I think I can cure it." Sarah frowned. "Then why did he cry out just now?" Evelyn shivered.

"It means the creator of the shadow blade's magic is around." Erica and Sarah hissed the name out.

"Stephanie's magic." They said. Benny stirred as he fluttered his eyes open. He smiled.

"Hey. What happened?" Erica shook her head as sighed. "Not now hun. There is something upstairs that is affecting you and is probably dangerous. Stay here."

Benny nodded as Sarah stayed with Benny. Erica walked up the attic ladder and broke open the door. When she opened it, she gasped.

In the middle of the room was Rory, a trickle of blood running down his cheek. He was unconscious in the dark...

And a silver blade was grasped in his hand.
