"Rainbow!" Applejack grunted as she woke up.
"AJ, he's coming!" Rainbow moaned from the bathroom. "We need to get to the hospital, now!" Rainbow was bent in a ball on the floor. Applejack knew it wasn't good for her to be bent so harshly; and it most definitely NOT good for the baby. But, honestly, that's what she wanted to do too; just curl up and wait for the pain to pass then cease.
"Come on, Eagle." Applejack sighed nuzzling the side of Rainbow's pain filled face.
"I can't!" Rainbow groaned, sobbing.
"Yes you can, you haven't even tried." Applejack pointed out trying to yank Rainbow to her hooves by pulling her mane with her teeth. Rainbow didn't want to, but knew she had to. So, with great strength and difficulty, she stomped her hooves and rose. "Good girl, BIG MAC!" Applejack called to her older brother. He bumped into what sounded like the wall, but managed to find his way through his tiredness and the darkness of the earlier morning.
"Yeah?" He questioned then understood upon opening the door. "I'll call the doctor." He stated seeing both Applejack and Rainbow trying to walk around in pain but were just shuffling their hooves from one side of the room to the other.
"What's with all the racket?" Granny Smith called weakly from her bedroom which she hardly ever left anymore due to how much pain it cost her to walk from one tree to the other.
"Applejack and Rainbow are getting ready to give birth!" Big Mac answered her as well as the doctor.
"AJ," Rainbow Dash moaned, ceasing her walking and looking at her wife. "I'm scared." Applejack halted in her breathing and looked at Rainbow, startled. Rainbow never admitted her fears, not even to Applejack. In that moment, Applejack saw the same terrified mare who had had to work up the nerve to propose to Applejack for almost a month.
"Eagle, I'm scared too." Applejack trotted over then pushed her forehead to Rainbow's. "And that's okay. We'll ALL be fine. I just know it." She kissed Rainbow then went back to walking.
"I'm sure you're right." Rainbow muttered then looked to the moon outside. "I just worry." She noted before her face contorted in pain again and she went back walking.
Meanwhile…
"What?" Pinkie Pie asked blinking against the moon light. She heard wailing, a siren of something; she was too groggy to discern what vehicle of what the alarm screeched. She moved Fluttershy's protective hoof from her waist and rose from the bed gingerly; always watching her slightly less swollen belly than compared to Applejack and Rainbow's. She made her way to the window and saw a Pegasus powered ambulance take off in the direction of Sweet Apple Acres. "Why is there an ambulance going out to Sweet Apple Acres?" She questioned the quiet night as a slight breeze drifted by. She shivered then yawned and slumped back to bed but she found it empty and Fluttershy was in the bathroom for some reason. "Fluttershy, what are you doing?" Pinkie Pie moaned in Fluttershy's direction.
"We have to go to the hospital!" Fluttershy blurted with a slight groggy slur to her voice.
"What, why?" Pinkie Pie asked getting comfortable in the bed once more.
"Sweet Apple Acres, ambulance, Rainbow Dash and Applejack ready to give birth any day now, ringing any bells?!" Fluttershy wondered in panic. Pinkie Pie's eyes shot open and she gasped so loudly and so long that, that air filled up her lungs to their capacity. Which was helpful as she screamed:
"APPLEJACK AND RAINBOW DASH ARE GIVING BIRTH!"
When they got to the hospital, every pony was there with Applejack and Rainbow in a birthing center where they were going through labor one short breathe and long contraction at a time.
"Are you guys okay?" Pinkie asked, kneeling in between the beds and looking from one determined, frightened mare to the other.
"We'll be fi-." Rainbow's face contorted again then she breathed harshly for a bit before the pain passed.
"Sugar Cube, you're doing great." Applejack encouraged from her own bed. But she was the one not doing fine. Her face was pale, and her breathing was shallow.
"Applejack, what's wrong?" Twilight asked, nearing her friend's bed with worry.
"I'm just… Not feeling… The… Best…" She trailed off then fainted. A monitor's alarm went off and soon there were nurses and doctors wheeling her out of the room.
"Wait, where are they taking her?" Rainbow asked frantically, still unable to move or leave the bed. "AJ, what's wrong?" Rainbow called out, but Applejack was far away and couldn't hear her wife as they rolled her bed down the hall and into a white room with bright lights overhead. "AJ. AJ, please. Please some pony, any pony, tell me what's going on?" Rainbow demanded of the doctors and nurses that followed Applejack down the hall. "AJ." Rainbow whispered, wanting her wife there more than anything in the world. She even wanted Applejack there more than the baby, which was wriggling around inside of her, to be out. Another contraction hit which caused her to yell out instead of another whisper "AJ!"
