"So, you don't know if she's yours or not?" Applejack asked as they all, the Mane Six and their families laid in Celestia's sun a couple months later.
"Not a clue; but I wouldn't have it any other way." Twilight cooed, using her magic to raise her child, who was still as tiny as Spike's egg was; but Twilight knew she'd be alright. Twilight had been reading extensively on the subject of premature newborns the moment they had arrived in Canterlot after the hospital visit. She knew that her filly was stronger than those who had past due to their own complications.
"I can't believe we haven't been able to get together until now!" Rarity stated shocked, but after taking a sip of tea, she was conversational once more. "So what is your little filly's name anyways?"
"Hope, Hope Sparkle." Twilight smiled at her baby as she rocked her gently back and forth.
"Oh, Twilight, that's simply lovely." Fluttershy approved as she rocked Jubilee, Pinkie's daughter (who was the reason of the little picnic get together, for she was celebrating her weekiversary that day). Pinkie, who had been up all night the past two nights planning as well as feeding Jubilee at three in the morning, had finally reached her limit and was passed out beside Fluttershy. Then she stretched, yawned and cuddled closer to Fluttershy.
"How has it been going, Darling? With living together and the baby of course." Rarity wondered aloud as Fluttershy blushed and closed Pinkie's mouth with her free hoof so Pinkie wouldn't snore and wake the baby.
"It's been nice. Oh girls, I'm the happiest I've ever been!" Fluttershy oozed in an excited whisper.
"Really? Are you going to purpose soon?" Rainbow teased, which got the others to laugh because they knew Fluttershy couldn't even beginning to figure out how to ask some pony to marry her and it would take her an entire lifetime for her to get the question out.
But little did they know, Fluttershy had the very first feather she had ever shed in her saddle bag at that exact moment. For Pegasi didn't purpose with rings; but they kept their first feathers to give to that one Pegasus pony that they wanted to spend the rest of their lives with. Fluttershy only smiled and went back to rocking Pinkie's little pony.
"Come on, Swift. Wanna try again?" Rainbow asked her little colt who cooed eagerly in response. "Alright, here we go!" Rainbow soared up into the clouds; holding tightly to Swift.
"Rainbow, you be careful!" Applejack called from the ground but her words disappeared among the clouds.
"Surely AJ, she knows what she's doing with her own colt." Twilight reasoned with the worried Applejack but still kept her eyes peeled for any tiny falling Pegasi that might rain down.
"I know she will; but I can't help but be nervous! He's my kid too, ya know!" Applejack twitted with anxiety; completely forgetting about her own twins, who had decided that that apple tree didn't look that big and were trying to climb it. Rarity saw this and distracted the two baby earth ponies with two bottles full of milk. They came back and sat on the blanket just as Rainbow was giving her son the same intrusions she had for the last twenty times they went up into the clouds.
"Don't be afraid of the wind; let it guide you as you flap." She adjusted the tiny helmet again just to make sure it was snug before checking the conditions. "It's a good day for flying." She announced. "Good, strong breeze, sun's out, lots of clouds to break you're fall; but I doubt you'll need them." Rainbow assured Swift as he was chewing on a cloud. "Kay, you ready little guy?" She asked Swift but Swift couldn't answer because of the cloud and because he couldn't talk yet.
"Rainbow, are you sure about this?" Twilight inquired from the ground.
"Don't worry, I was his age when I started flying!" Rainbow called back as she picked up Swift and dangled him over the edge of the cloud. "Remember son, flap." She told Swift one more time before letting go of him. He was falling out of the air at break neck speeds. Every pony was scared, except Swift who just giggled as the speeding air tickled his belly. "Come on, Swift, come on." Rainbow urged but Swift wasn't paying attention that he was even at a flying lesson; he was just enjoying the view.
"He's getting pretty low." Applejack informed Rainbow as his altitude deceased every moment.
"He's fine!" Rainbow cried back but got her wings spread out in anticipation. "Come on, Swift honey, you can do it." Rainbow urged but Swift wasn't listening as he fell; he was just enjoying the view. "Okay, I guess it's not today." Rainbow concluded as she sped off after him. A sudden unscheduled breeze blew Dash up and Swift down. "No, no, no!" Rainbow cried as her flightless colt plummeted towards the unforgiving earth of Sweet Apple Acres.
"My baby!" Applejack cried out as she saw everything unfolding from the earth. Twilight placed Hope down and bolted into the sky just as Fluttershy did with Jubilee before zooming up after her. Swift was about two hundred feet from the ground and every pony else was about double that away from him. The only pony that could save him now, was himself.
"Come on Swift, you've got to fly!" Rainbow called down to him as she fought the wind in an attempt to reach her son. "Please fly." She begged softly, though she knew he wasn't able to understand nor hear her. But then, unexpectedly, Swift stopped sucking on his tail then stretched out his tiny wings. Then he started flapping. The wind caught under his wings and he went up like parachutes raise their managers. Before any pony could breathe or even being to understand, Swift made history in that moment as the youngest flyer in all of Equestria.
"He's flying." Applejack gasped. "He's flying!" She cheered as realization came to pass over her face with relief and delight. "Would you look at my baby go?" And she was right Swift was now up beside his mother, circling her in joyous mockery.
"Who's Mommy's little flyer?" Rainbow cooed as she held out her arms as his wings began to lose strength.
"And great at timing." Twilight agreed as she relaxed on a nearby cloud.
"Goodness Rainbow, what happened?" Fluttershy asked sitting a cloud lower than Twilight.
"I dunno, this breeze just came and swept me away which has never happened before during our other practices." Rainbow promised as Fluttershy and Twilight gave her a disapproving look.
"You shouldn't be up this high throwing your child off this cloud in the first place!" Twilight scolded as they all descended towards the picnic.
"Well, that's how I learned okay?" Dash spat back as they landed. And with that, the matter was dropped. No pony dared question Rainbow's parents' ways of parenting because they had left her alone before she was old enough to take care of herself on her own. Luckily her older brother had taken good care of her until she was mature.
"Swift sugar, are you all right?" Applejack worried as she held Swift close to her. "No more flying lessons until he's older." She informed Rainbow Dash; this too was a close discussion, not ifs, ands, or buts. But Rainbow didn't argue she simply nodded and went towards the farmhouse without another word.
"Rainbow, what about the picnic?" Rarity called after her as she trotted away, which woke Pinkie up with a start.
"What did I miss?" She asked Fluttershy through a yawn.
"Nothing important…" Fluttershy mumbled as she rocked Jubilee into slumber again. With that, the party was over and every pony went back to where they belonged.
