"Hey Mikasa" he kneels in front of her in the grass, purple bags under his eyes "So…we did it. There is a squad ready to go and explore the world…we'll probably see the ocean" his hands pick the wet grass, not daring to look up.
"I'm sorry for being an asshole to you" he sighs, letting the grass fall back to the ground, crushing with his finger an ant. He sits on his feet, his shoulders falling. He can feel the sobs coming, but he has to say everything before he allows himself to cry.
"Remember what I told you some nights ago? I told you I'd marry you, as soon as we could" a tear falls and he wipes it angrily. "I promised, I told you we would be together finally…we'd build a house near the ocean, but not too near because not many things grow in the sand. We would have kids, of course. Can you picture it, Mikasa? They would have been so beautiful…"another tear falls, but this time he lets it run down his face. Many more follow that one, and in no time he's sobbing.
"I keep my promises...so here" from his pocket he takes out the ring he bought right before the final battle, in the times he thought a happy ending would be possible.
"We can be together now, finally…even if you are not here" he puts the little box right above her name, tracing her name and dates.

He tries to smile but fails. He didn't want that written on there, he wanted something more special. But soldiers get the same grave, and soldiers they were. He gets up slowly, touching the grave one last time before going to the one at the side.
"You… son of a bitch. I already talked with you, so you better take care of her, you hear me? When I get there, I want to see both of you happily waiting for me" he salutes both of the graves one last time before turning and walking a few steps.
"Say hi to mom and dad for me, will you?"
Mikasa stays silent, just as the grave besides her does.
