A/N: I'm proud of myself for some reason for thinking of that name.
Finally, we're here.
Ylisstol feels almost different since the last time we came here. It may have something to do with the fact that we're entering from a different side of it.. but... Eh, whatever.
Haven't seen the front of it, but I'm not tempted to risk it. It isn't a good idea to have someone from whom I don't remember appear and try to start a conversation with me.
That, and we're preparing a war-is-over-celebratory-feast.
...And I'm helping to cook it. Gods forbid that I know why, but all of the royal chefs are away. Also here is Stahl and Gaius. The latter can make a half-decent cake, or so I've heard. Sumia is away with Chrom setting up the ceremony that announces their marriage and the end of the war. They say it'll be about three or four months before their wedding. Something about 'waiting for Ylisse to recover from the violence'.
Still, why are they trusting me with the food? It's not like I know how to cook.
..."What do I have to make again?" I ask Stahl.
"Let's see..." he pulls out a sheet of paper and glances at it. "You're going to kill the turkey."
...
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-
Geoff
"Do you hear screaming..?" Lissa turns around, glancing at the castle ceiling.
"...I think so." Yeah, that sounded like Ravel. Probably was him. This is the part where he would mention his 'Ginger Luck' and how stupidly random it is. Gods, he went with that perfectly. I actually believed it at one point, but then we came here. "Probably just Ravel getting injured again." I grin.
"Er... Should I get my staff... Or...?"
"Don't worry about it. There's a lot more healers in the castle. Besides, it's ou- Er... your day off. You shouldn't have to worry about it." I nod. Gods, I think I remember Ravel telling me about a blonde-haired princess that he ended up marrying. Well, in the game... I guess he was talking about Lissa... Yeah. I think I may see why.
"You're right." Lissa grins and nods. "Why should I worry about him? I mean, I don't have to heal anymore! Or at least for a while... I dunno." As weird as she worded it, she does see the point. "But that's not the point. Tell me more about your ancestors!" Oh yeah. The stories... of half-truths. I may have possibly told the Shepherds that I was a descendant of Link. All of them. They don't know about Link, so I'm safe. Besides, I'm not one for screwing up *cough* Ravel *cough* so I probably will be fine.
"Oh yeah... Like the one where my great-great grandfather journeyed through time to save his home?" I smile.
"Yeah! That one!" she smiles and... are her eyes sparkling? Heh. Charming.
"Alright. So..."
"And so he defeated the evil king, but at a price. He was forced to leave behind his current time and return to the one that he was born."
"Whoaaa... That's cool! ..And confusing. Which time is this? One he was sent to, or the one he left?" And I thought she wouldn't be that good of a listener. She definitely showed interest, and given what most of the other Shepherds have said, that's unusual.
"This is the one that he was sent to. But somewhere out there, there is a different timeline with different descendants living out his legacy. As a matter of fact, I happened to have kept in touch with one of them. Told me lots of tales about what went on over there. As a matter of fact, they even told me about one more timeline." her eyes peeked with interest at the mention of a third.
"A third? Tell me about it!" she grabs my hand and shakes it, but in a sort of begging manner.
"I won't have time." I shrug. I do like that she's been listening this long, but I don't recollect the other Zelda games' stories too much. Ravel is going to have to tell me about Wind Waker, Skyward and Twilight may take a while, and then there's Majora's Mask.
...Maybe this wasn't such a good idea.
"Besides, why are you so interested in my stories anyways?" I ask. Her grin disappears and she looks down to the ground, a frown now spread across her face.
"I-I don't wanna talk about it... It's a bit... personal." she looks up at me. I frown.
"Are you suuuuureeee...?" I puff out my lower lip. "For meeeeeee...?"
She stifles a laugh and lightly punches my arm. "Some other time. Besides, there's not way you can push the Queen of Begging."
I sport a grin. "Well maybe it's time 'The Queen' gets dethroned." I feel metal against my neck as I finish.
I gulp, and look up only to see that it's none other than Frederick threatening to kill me.
"You will be doing no such thing to our princess." I gulp. Did he only hear the last half of my sentence? Besides, why would I say that to Lissa of all people? That's like telling a criminal that you're going to call the police. It never ends well.
"I-It was just a joke..." Frederick's lance tightens around my neck, drawing a bit of blood. "C-can't... breathe..."
"Let him go, Frederick." Lissa pushes his lance out of the way and pulls me away. "We were just kidding."
Frederick sighs before putting his lance away. "If you insist, Milady. Just know that I shall that I shall not tolerate rebellious behavior on a day such as this." He isn't named Frederick the Wary for nothing. Hmph. He walks toward the feast hall and- Oh, I almost forgot.
"It's time for the feast, anyways." I pull my arm in front of her. "Shall we go onward, milady?"
She rolls her eyes before grabbing it. "Whatever, but don't get the wrong idea."
I lead her into the dining hall, where all of the others Shepherds and mercenaries are gathered.
Ravel
Ugh... I never want to see another turkey again...
Wait a minute-
Oh my... Do I see what I think I see? Lissa and Geoff?
I ship it. I don't care if we never join the Shepherds and this ends tragically, I still ship it.
Wait a minute, what happened to Owain having white hair?
... Maybe I saw it wrong? What?
Whatever. And in other news, that girl has healed. She said her name's Alyssa, or so I've heard. She's just been talking to Maribelle for a while. Nobles speak to nobles, I guess.
I see Susan get up and go around the table, before sitting between Lon'qu and I. To my left is Ricken, who sadly doesn't reach too high above the table.
"We never talked about... that." Susan smiles at me. "Seriously, tonight? Or what?"
I ignore the confused looks from some of the Shepherds and turn toward her. "I don't know. Just not now." with that, I turn to face forward and stare at the plates of food in front of us.
"Sully isn't cooking this time... right?" Gaius smirks and grabs a lollipop out of his suit. This earns a punch from Sully, who -funny enough- is also wearing a suit. All of the women are wearing dresses, except perhaps Tharja. Even then, Sully's sticking out.
Frederick paces around the table and pours some wine into people's glasses. Never actually had wine before. Wasn't old enough to drink, either. Huh. I guess real-world rules don't really apply.
"Enjoy." Frederick is beefy even without his armor on. Or is he wearing his armor under his suit...? I dunno. More than likely the former.
Chrom and Sumia soon enter, followed by Robin. 'Course they're holding hands and are dressed in blue, and Robin's wearing his cloak... for some reason. I don't even- Anyways, the three of them sit at the head of the table. Funny enough, the table conveniently has forty-five seats.
"Friends, Family. We fought hard for our peace." Chrom announces. "Many lives were taken. Many sacrifices made. But the end result is worth it." he looks up and holds a glass of wine into the air. "Emmeryn would have been delighted to see this new-found era of peace. None of this would be, if it was not for her." he sheds a few light tears, before looking at the Shepherds. "Yet Emmeryn wasn't the only one who made sacrifices. You all risked your lives and some of you even lost your friends and family for peace." did he look at me when he said that? Hey, I wasn't supposed to tell you that until our B support!
Chrom takes a seat. Robin stands in his stead. "Well, I have to give a speech now... apparently. Admittedly, I had been too busy preparing Chrom's speech to prepare mine, but I can still try." he smiles and gives a light chuckle. "I'll admit, from the moment Chrom found me in that field, I never expected to become a tactician. I never expected to win a war with nearly no casualties. And most of all: I never expected to meet such wonderful people along the way." Gods, Robin is really good at improvising. No, that's too wonderfully cliched and heartwarming to not be prepared. "All of you are unique and special in your own ways. And like Chrom said: Without you, we all wouldn't be standing here today. Well, we're all probably pretty hungry right now, so I'll just go ahead and end this with a toast."
Robin lifts up his glass. "To peace!"
"To peace!" everyone else yells. The others lift their glasses into the air.
Gods, something about this feels awkwardly cheesy. No, really. It feels... HowdoIdescribethis?
"Wow, this turkey's pretty good. You want to try some, Ray?" Susan holds a fork out in front of my plate. Urkk...
"No... I-I'm not that hungry." ...So much blood... Red.. Ugh...
"Your loss." she shrugs and takes a bite of it. No, really. I'm not hungry at all. Slaughtering turkeys really makes you sick. And skinning it... and cutting and pulling out it's individual organs...
Guh...
I rest my head on the table, a groan escaping from me.
"How about now?" Susan barges into my room and shoves me onto my bed.
She can be really aggravating when she wants to, just like a real sibling. Well, for her it's a bit more of a friendly aggravating as opposed to being flat-out annoying.
"Fine. Go crazy with the questions. Chances are: I have the answers." I shrug and turn onto my stomach.
"Okay..." she pauses and puts a finger on her chin. "Question one: Who is that 'Jeremiah' guy?" So she knows about him, too.
"Some sort of angel guy. I don't know much about him." I close my eyes, starting to grow a bit drowsy. Yawwwn...
"Okay. Two... Why are we here?"
"Angels like to gamble." this earns a light giggle from her.
"Seriously? Three: Why the hell do you want me to call you Ravel?" she's good with calling people by their nicknames.
"I dunno... I don't care... I just... Tired..." So... sleepy..
"So... What's up, Jerry?" I stare into the void in front of me.
"He's not here. It's just me today." The white void ripples for a second, before Sygil approaches out of it. "Hold on.." he pauses for a second, and a second figure begins to materialize next to him.
"So, what did I miss?" Geoff grins as his body finishes forming.
'Kay. So Geoff's here.
Also. "And Susan is also here. Are there any more surprise inserts you want to tell me about, Sygil?"
He just stares at me with a blank expression. "No."
And that answer felt way to short.
"I'm not buying it." A pair of sunglasses mysteriously spawns and Geoff puts them on. "Spill the beans, Angel-Face."
Aw hell, why not? I spawn a pair as well and put them on, making sure to put the stupidest look possible upon my face.
"I have absolutely nothing to say." Yeah, he's not gonna spill it, is he?
"It's no use. I mean, are we really trying to get a magical being to tell us his secrets? While we're at it, lets get Chrom and Robin to slaughter a bunch of kittens!"
Sygil gives a light chuckle. "Yeah, I wouldn't tell you if there were. Period. For things like that, I would only really tell you if it were necessary."
"As long as you didn't insert out sisters." Geoff laughs. Yeah, it would suck if Lara was here.
"I can't make any promises." Sygil's smile disappears. So does ours.
"Oh you better not ha-"
"Oh look, we're out of time. Well, it was a nice chat, wasn't it?" Sygil claps and Geoff disappears.
"Well, that went well." I roll my eyes. "I think the soul-merging has gone to Geoff's head. He usually isn't that cocky."
Sygil shrugs and turns around. "It's definitely some of the soul-merging, but some of it was combined with his genuine personality." he turns back toward me. "And just between you and me, there are others inserted." Wait, what?!
And I'm back in my bed again. Perfect. More of my friends in danger.
A/N: I was resisting the urge to switch to Drake's POV. I really enjoy writing that for some reason. More than myself, actually. And gosh, I never really thought of my story as that dialogue oriented until now. Awakening has a lot of dialogue as well though, so I guess I get a freebie...?
And sorry if those speeches sounded corny. Something legitimately felt strange when writing this chapter, but I can't tell what it is. (Watch it be obvious and right in front of me.) Anyways, it's probably nothing that I can't fix.
Besides, This chapter felt (and probably was) shorter than the others, despite the fact that it felt like forever when I was writing it. Seriously, If I wasn't looking at the wordcount while typing this, I would have guessed that this was about 4k words.
But yeah, I may put this on a semi-hiatus until I can get another story out. Unlike last time, I'm going to actually try and fulfill my promise. It's more than likely going to be just a story about the Shepherds. I do have a slight twist to it, however.
