It was a nice day. The weather was nice, not too hot nor too cold, the sun warming just enough. Perfect.
That's what most people would say.
But Eren? Eren was cursing the sunny sky from behind his curtains.
"The weather man said it would be cloudy. I need cloudy. I like cloudy. Why can't it be cloudy?" he heard Mikasa chuckle, her arms wrapping around his waist from behind.
"We can always have this date another day" she kissed his shoulder, rubbing her nose against it.
"No, I promised you. Besides, it's a great time to use that umbrella Connie gave me" he snorts, shaking his head at the thought. Only Connie…
"The one with the bats, clearly bought in a kid store?" he can feel her smirk, he can hear it in her voice.
"That would be the one"
"Okay, everything ready to go. But first, let me take a picture" Mikasa took out her cellphone, motioning with her hand for Eren to open his umbrella.
"Alright, like this?" he rested it on his shoulder, one hand on his hip and the other holding the umbrella.
"Yeah, perfect" she smiled and snapped the picture.
"Wait, wait" he put the umbrella in front of him, only his eyes pecking from above "Send him one like this" he raised one eyebrow, trying to look as sexy as possible.
"Oh, the bats are doing the trick. He's going to love it" Mikasa snickered.
"You all are so lucky I'm half human" he half smiled, hidden by the umbrella.
"Why's that?" she started tapping on her phone the message to Connie, deciding to send it to everyone with a First date!
"Well, I actually appear on pictures. I don't have a single picture of my father, you know?"
Noticing something strange on his voice, Mikasa put her phone on her pocket and reached for his hand.
"Let's just focus on this for now" she tugged his hand, interlacing their fingers and opening the door.
"So…what are we supposed to do?" Eren asked, swinging their hands.
"I don't know. Have ice cream, go sit on the park. Maybe watch a movie" Mikasa shrugged.
"What do you want to do?" Eren smiled, adjusting the umbrella.
"How about we go for ice cream?"
"Sounds perfect"
"So…you said you don't have pictures of your father, but you have of your mother, right?" they were sitting on a bench on the park, ice creams half eaten and umbrella still open.
"Yeah. It's kind of weird and I don't know how it works, but my dad won't appear on the photographs. My mom doesn't either, now that she's a vampire. Their clothes are there, but they aren't. Anyway, here" passing her his ice cream, he pulled out his wallet out and searched for a piece of paper "You already met my mom and everything, but this is how I remember her the most" he handed her the picture and reclaimed what little he had left of his ice cream.
In the picture, a woman and a child were smiling. It looked a little forced, probably for having to stand still for too long, but you could easily see they were happy to be in presence of the other. It was old, no color but brown and black in the paper.
The woman, Mikasa knew it was Carla, was wearing a dress so old it could only be from the beginning of the past century. A boy, not older than five, was standing beside her, shirt tucked in short pants, suspenders on his shoulders.
"You were cute as a child" she smiled, giving the picture back.
"Yeah…I was around ten here" he smiled almost nostalgic, eating the last part of his ice cream.
"I…I forgot" she blushed, hiding her face in her hands "You're so old!" he put the picture in the wallet, turning to see her with raised eyebrows.
"Excuse me? Do you know how many people would like to look like this" he gestured his face "at age 117?"
"Ooold!" she laughed, turning to her side and passing her arms around Eren's neck.
"Then why are you dating me?" he touched her nose with his, their foreheads touching and their lips a breath apart.
"Because I happen to love you very much" she smiled as she kissed him, the umbrella slipping from his hand.
"Fuck!" he mumbled, breaking apart and hurrying to grab it before it let the sunlight hit his face "Ow!"
"Are you okay?" she cupped his face with her hands, eyes scanning for steam.
"Yeah, I'm okay, it'll go away in a few seconds" he winced, steam leaving the back of his head.
"Let's just go home" she smiled, standing from the bench and waiting for him to get up.
"How about we go to see a movie and then we go have dinner because it'll be dark by that time?" he took her hand and started walking towards the cinema, knowing she wouldn't refuse.
"Alright. But I can hear from here some people laughing"
"Oh, let them. If it allows me to spend time with you as a human, then it can't be bad"
