Chapter 4

Grace POV

Shane and I rush into the hospital, and we talk to Jack's doctor. He says that they pumped his stomach and he needs a psych evaluation. They aren't sure if it was a suicide attempt. I immediately call his parents. They are on their way. Shane says, "I'll be right here waiting for you. You go check on Jack."

I give Shane a kiss on the cheek and say, "Thank you for everything."

I walk into his room. He looks so frail and weak. He is a sleep; I grab his hand and pray for him.

A couple minutes later Jack wakes up. He looks over at me and says, "What happened?"

I say, "You overdosed Jack, were you trying to kill yourself?"

Jack says, "What do you care? You left me."

I reply, "I couldn't live like that anymore and you wouldn't let me help you."

Jack says, "I didn't need you then and I don't need you now."

I say, "Don't be cruel, I really care about you."

Jack says, "Oh yeah, that's why you abandon me during the hardest time of my life."

I reply, "I couldn't let you hurt me anymore. It broke heart to see you like that. I tried and tried."

He says, "Well then what the hell are you doing here?"

I say, "I'm worried about you."

He replies, "Don't worry, I'm not your concern."

Jack's parents walk in and say, "Thank you so much for being here, Grace." They rush over to hug Jack and check on him.

I say, "No problem, I should go. Jack doesn't want me here."

Jack's dad says, "Thank you for coming."

I leave and go to the waiting room with tears streaming down my face. Shane comes over to me and gives me a big hug. He asks, "Is everything okay?"

I say, "Yes, Jack hates me."

He says, "He doesn't hate you, he hates himself."

I ask, "How would you know?"

Shane says, "Because I know what it's like to screw up and let you get away."

I look up at him through my tears and whisper, "Oh Shane, I've missed you."

Amy POV

Ricky yells, "Did you sleep with him or not? Dammit answer the question Amy?!"

I reply, "What do you care? It's not like you are ever around."

He says, "Stop playing games with me!"

I say, "I didn't sleep with him!"

He asks, "What happened?"

I say, "I had too much to drink and was upset. He invited me back to his place. We just talked, he slept on the couch."

Ricky says, "Oh so nothing happened at all?"

I reply, "We only kissed."

He says, "Oh is that supposed to make me feel better. So just one kiss, Amy?"

I say, "A few."

He says, "Dammit Amy, I've never cheated on you!"

I reply, "You may have never cheated on me but you have been neglecting me."

He replies, "Only to make a better life for us!"

I say, "Let's just go to bed, we can talk about this later."

Ricky gets out of bed and says, "I'll gladly sleep on the couch tonight."

As he leaves the room I exclaim, "I'm so sorry Ricky, I love you."

He just keeps walking, doesn't even look back.

The next morning I go downstairs early to make pancakes for breakfast and John is up. He asks, "Can I help you make breakfast mama?"

I say, "Of course sweetie."

We make breakfast together. Ricky comes in and says, "Good morning John!"

John gives Ricky a big hug and says, "I've missed you daddy!"

Ricky says, "I have a day planned out for us buddy, do you want to go play at the park?"

John says, "Yes, daddy!"

We start eating and Ricky hasn't looked at me once, or said a word to me.

John keeps looking back and forth at both of us.

He asks, "Daddy, are you going to leave mommy and me?"

Ricky replies, "No Buddy, of course not. Why would you think that?"

John says, "My friend Alex from school said his Mommy and Daddy yell a lot too. Then his Daddy left them."

Ricky says, "I would never leave you, John."

My heart sinks into my chest, what have I done?

Adrian POV

I just laid the twins down for a nap and there is a knock at the door. I answer it and it is Amy. I say, "It's great to see you, come in."

Amy says, "I'm sorry to bother you, I know how busy you are."

I say, "Are you crazy? I'm so happy you are here, finally an adult conversation."

Amy laughs and says, "Missing Ben already?"

I say, "Yes, of course. I miss my Benny Bear."

Amy says, "How cute."

I ask, "Are you okay? You look kind of down."

Amy replies, "Things are hell right now with Ricky."

I ask, "Well what's going on?"

Amy says, "He works all the time, he doesn't make time for John and me. We finally make a romantic dinner date and he stood me up."

I say, "Aww I'm sorry Amy. That really sucks. Every marriage goes through a rough patch, I'm sure it will pass."

Amy replies, "I'm not sure, I made things a lot worse. The night he stood me up, I walked to the bar across the street and Jay was there. I had too much to drink. We didn't have sex but we made out. Now Ricky won't even talk to me, hell he won't even look at me."

My mouth drops, "Amy, everybody makes mistakes. I'm sure he will forgive you. He really loves you."

Amy says, "I hope so but he hasn't been acting like it."

Just then Blake and Brooke wake up from their nap. Amy visits with the kids for a little while and then leaves.

Ricky POV

I get home with John and Amy is nowhere to be found. I start to wonder if she is with Jay again. I order pizza for dinner. After dinner John goes upstairs to play video games, and I go into my office to work on some stuff. A little later when Amy gets home, I go to our bedroom to see her.

I ask, "Where were you?"

She replies, "I was at Adrian's."

I ask, "Don't lie to me, were you with Jay again?"

Amy says, "I'm not lying to you, call Adrian!"

I say, "Fine."

I get my pillow and a blanket and head downstairs to sleep. Amy stops me and says, "Ricky, please we need to talk about this."

I reply, "There's nothing to talk about."

She says, "Sure there is."

I say, "Fine, there's nothing I want to talk about."

Amy says, "I know this might surprise you but everything is not just about you."

I reply, "You cheat on me and now you are giving me shit."

Amy says, "I just don't know how we can work through this if you don't even want to try."

I say, "I don't even know if I want to work through this."
