The next day Jane woke up rested and hungry. However, before getting ready to go downstairs to eat she sat up on her bed crossed her legs and grabbed the diary from under her pillow. She wrote her good morning to Tom and promised to tell him all about her day after dinner. Then she put the diary back under her pillow and grabbed her family photo. Both her parents were smiling at her.
"Good morning mum and dad" Jane whispered before putting the picture back on her bedside.
She got out of her bed and looked around the room everybody was sleeping in except Hermione that, no matter what day of the week it was, wakes up early. Jane decided to take a shower and then she would go to breakfast. when she finally got downstairs to the common room, it was full.
"Oy Potter, come here" Someone yelled at her. She looked around the common room and spotted the culprit. It was Fred, who was smiling at her. Jane glared at him but listened to him and made her way toward where he, George, and Lee were.
"Good morning Potter" George said calmly, as if Fred hadn't just yelled at her from across the room.
"What is with the last name thing Weasleys" Jane responded.
"Don't know what you mean" the twins responded innocently.
"Whatever, it is too early on a Saturday I'm going to eat" Jane said and started to walk away from the guys.
"Wait Potter I'll accompany you" Fred said putting his arm around her shoulder.
"Fred don't you have a girlfriend yo can bother" Jane said as they left the common room.
"Well not anymore" Fred said. "Angelina broke up with me" Jane stopped walking and turned her head toward him. He smiled at her softly and said "It's okay I saw it coming"
"Oh Fred I'm sorry, I wouldn't have brought it up if I'd known" Jane said hugging him.
"Really Jane it's okay. If she hadn't broken up with me I would have done it" Fred said hugging he back. They stayed some time like that until someone cleared his throat. The two friends separated fast and looked at who had cleared his throat. It was Cedric and he did not look happy.
"You know Jane I thought you were different" Cedric said before turning around and leaving. Jane stayed shocked in place. Her mind was still processing what had just happened.
"Jane follow him, tell him he misunderstood what he just saw" Fred said bringing her back to reality.
"Oh Merlin! Fred he is going to hate me forever. He's been my boyfriend for like a week and I already messed it up. What's wrong with me?" Jane said pacing back and forth.
"Jane if you fix this now everything will go back to normal" Fred said.
What neither of them knew was that Cedric was hearing their conversation and deciding Jane was too young to be on a relationship and that the were better off as friends. The next time he saw her, he was going to tell her
Jane looked for Cedric the whole day. When it was time for dinner she had already looked everywhere in the castle and was exhausted. She decided to just skip dinner and go to the Gryffindor common room. As she got near the portrait she noticed somebody standing in front of it. It was Cedric and he seemed nervous.
"Cedric?" Jane said hesitantly.
"Jane" Cedric said startled. He thought he'd have more time to think about what he said. "I thought you were in the Great Hall"
"Um, no I decided to skip dinner" Jane said.
"Alright then, we need to talk" Cedric said suddenly full of confidence.
"Cedric if is about what you saw this morning, that was nothing I was just comforting him I swear" Jane said quickly.
"I believe you Jane but I think I made a mistake by asking you to be my girlfriend. Don't take me wrong I do like you but I think you are too young for me" Cedric said. "I'm sorry but I think we are better off as friends" Cedric added before leaving her alone in front of the Gryffindor portait. Jane stayed there for awhile too shocked to do anything else but stare at the space where Cedric broke up with her.
She was still there when the Gryffindors started to go back to the common room after dinner.
"Um, did you forget the password?" Katie Bell asked Jane when she noticed her standing there. Jane looked at her confused. Katie noticed Jane's lack of glow and got worried she had never seen somebody so empty.
"Jane are you okay?" Katie asked and Jane shook her head before succumbing to tears. Katie didn't know what else to do so she hugged Jane and let her cry on her shoulder. After minutes of them being there in the portrait and people giving them weird looks Katie decided to lead Jane into the common room. However, Jane had other plans. When she noticed where Katie was going she shrugged Katie off and took off leaving a confused and worried Katie.
Jane ran without a destination in mind. When she stopped running she was in the dungeons in front of Snape's office. She debated whether she should go in or not. She decided to enter. It wasn't that she liked Snape it was more the fact that when she was around him se felt safe as if he would fight death to keep her safe.
When she entered Snape looked up in surprise. He wasn't expecting anybody and less Jane Potter.
"This better be a good reason, Potter" Snape said.
"Um, professor I know that it is late but I was wondering if I could stay here for a little while" Jane answered with a shaky voice.
"You certainly can't stay miss Potter you are out of bed after curfew"
"I know professor I'm sorry I don't even know why I came" Jane said and new tears started to fall. Snape looked at her and wondered why was she crying.
"Miss Potter this is the second time I see you this hysterical, what in the world is wrong with you?"
"Nothing important, professor Jane answered before turning around and leaving. Snape was not about to let her wonder around the Slytherin territory alone, he knew how sick could some Slytherins be, so he followed her.
"Potter is after curfew you need an escort" Snape said as he caught up with her. Jane smiled sadly at him and actually broke his heart. Something was wrong with her and he wanted to help her but he didn't know how.
They walked in silence all the way to the Gryffindor common room. When they stopped in front of the Fat Lady Jane turned and looked at Snape.
"Thank you professor for escorting me here" Jane said with no feeling in her tone.
"You are welcome. And you can always come to my office as long as it is before curfew" Snape said without thinking. Jane smiled at him again but the smile didn't reach her eyes. Something was really wrong with her.
She entered the common room and noticed that Fred, George, Harry, and Hermione were waiting for her on one of the couches. Ron was probably sleeping and Ginny probably didn't know something was wrong. Jane ignored her friends and brother and went upstairs to er dorm. Parvati and Lavender were gossiping and ignored Jane as she entered. Jane didn't pay them any notice either and went straight to her bed and closed the curtains around her. As soon as she did that se heard Hermione enter the dorm.
"Jane, are you alright?" Hermione asked.
"I'm fine I just want to be alone" Jane said evenly.
"You sure?"
"Yes Hermione, I'm sure" Jane said and Hermione sighed sadly. This is going to be harder than I thought, Hermione thought.
Jane ignored any approach Hermione made that night and instead wrote on the diary. Tom was getting stronger by the second but for some reason it was still dificult to posses her. For instance that night he was trying to posses her and something kept blocking him. It was as if she had some natural shield in her mind.
Jane wrote until she didn't hear anything outside her bed. When she was sure everybody was asleep she put the diary under her pillow and went out of the room. She went to the lavatory and showered before going back to her bed in the second year girls dorm.
She tossed and turned trying to fall asleep but she kept reliving her break up with Cedric and the feelings that came with it. She tossed and turned for about an hour before she decided trying to sleep wasn't working.
She got up from the bed and made her way to the common room. As expected, at this time of the night, the common room was empty.
Jane didn't want to be alone in the common room so she decided to go to the boys' dormitory. When Jane was little and couldn't sleep she would always move to Harry's bed and sleep with him. As she neared the second year boys' dorm she started to change her mind. Surly* Harry wouldn't want her to bother him and much less if bothering him meant that he had to sleep with his sister. She decided it wasn't his brother she needed. She needed a friend who knew what she was going through. So she climbed some more stairs and ended up in front of the boys' fourth year dorm. She opened the door quietly and went in. The first bed she saw was Lee's bed. She knew it was Lee because some of his hair was picking out from the curtains. She looked around the room and noticed that Fred and George's bed had their name on it. She started to go to the bed that said Fred when she noticed that it was in a position that reminded her of George's bed at the Burrow. On instinct she went to the bed that said George and when she opened the curtains she saw Fred sleeping on it. She didn't know why she was so sure it was him she just knew it.
"Fred" Jane said gently while shaking him.
"What happened?" Fred said a little disoriented.
"I can't sleep" Jane said softly a if ashamed to admit it. Fred sighed softly, moved a little to the left, and raised his covers as if giving her permission to climb in. All the Weasley boys knew how to deal with sleepless girls since Ginny went at least once to their room because she couldn't sleep. So Jane climbed in and Fred put the cover around her so she wouldn't be cold. Jane snuggled closer to him and actually fell asleep almost immediately. Fred looked down at her for a moment before putting his arm around her and falling asleep too.
The next morning it was Sunday. Fred and Jane were snuggled very close and still asleep by noon. George had woken up two hours ago and had seen them together. He had decided not to bother them and had left the dorm.
Now an angry Katie was looking at the sleeping friends. The bed where they were sleeping said George and Katie didn't have Jane's ability to tell the Weasley twins apart.
"George!" She said roughly. Fred jumped startled and woke Jane up. "What the hell?!"
"Katie I'm Fred not George" Fred said rubbing his eyes. Jane looked at Katie confused. She looked as if she was still asleep with her eyes open.
"Then what the bloody hell are you doing in George's bed?" Katie asked still angry.
"This is my bed" Fred said defensively.
"It says George's name" Katie asked less mad but more confused.
"I know it says George's name. We did this in first year to confuse Lee" Fred said defensively.
"Oh. I'm sorry Fred and Jane" Katie said blushing.
"It's okay" Fred replied. Jane didn't say anything and when Fred and Katie looked at her she was fast asleep leaning against Fred.
"Maybe we should wake her up or people will think the wrong thing." Katie said worried about Jane's reputation, which thanks to some jealous girls it was not very good.
"You are right" Fred said turning toward Jane. "Hey wake up Jane"
"No" Jane said in a whiny voice. Katie and Fred laughed.
"Come on Jane aren't you hungry" Fred said while Katie left the room deciding Fred didn't need her help.
"I'm not hungry" Jane said but in that moment her stomach rumbled.
"Of course your not" Fred said sarcastically. "But I am, so come on" Fred got up from his bed and pulled Jane to a sitting position. Jane sighed and stood up beside Fred.
"Okay then, let's go eat" Jane said.
"Um, Jane maybe you should go first to your room and get ready for the day" Fred said slowly. Jane looked down at herself and nodded. She was dressed in her pyjamas and her hair (which she usually kept as smooth as possible) was a mess like a birds nest. When she looked back up toward Fred, he had an amused expression.
"Oh don't laugh" Jane said "So how should I get to my room?"
"Well, don't you have that bracelet that turns you invisible?"
"Um, nope" Jane said.
"Well now you have to go downstairs the normal way" Fred said.
"Fred if I go downstairs looking like this and beside you, what do you think everyone else will think of me?"
"I know but I can't think of any other way"
"Fred, I don want to be seen as the easy girl from Gryffindor" Jane said sitting down on the bed and crossing her arms.
"Okay, I'll be right back. I need Harry and George" Fred said turning to leave.
"Wait! You can't tell Harry. He'll be the first to think the wrong thing" Jane said. "I'll go downstairs the normal way but at least I need a brush"
"You are right you do need a brush Medusa"
"Hey! It is not that bad" Jane said standing up.
"Yeah it is" Fred said laughing and dogging Jane's hands.
"Just find me a brush"
"What do you think I am?" Fred said standing closer to Jane, smiling, and looking down so he could look at her in the eyes.
Jane looked up to him and their eyes locked. She couldn't look away and his smile slipped from his lips. Janes thoughts were jumbled she thought he was handsome. His red hair was wavy and knotted by the lack of brushing but she was tempted to run he hands through it, his eyes were a very light blue kind of like the clear sky.
Jane was confused Fred was her friend she shouldn't be thinking about how handsome he was, also she liked Cedric not Fred, right?
Fred took another step forward stretching his hand to cup her face. His fingers were almost to her cheek and Jane was leaning her head a little toward his hand when the door suddenly opened.
"Fred, Jane!" George said and Fred and Jane jumped apart. Jane fell on the bed while Fred smacked against his brother.
"Whoa! Careful there Fred" George said. "So what is taking you two so much, it is lunch time, hurry up" George added ignoring the tension in the room.
"Oh, right" Jane said. "George could you find me a brush since Fred here couldn't" Jane added trying to sound casual but failing since she wouldn't look at Fred.
"Sure dear" George said going to his bed (still ignoring the awkwardness in the room) finding the brush and giving it to Jane. "Now hurry up" He added before leaving.
Jane started to brush her hair without looking at Fred.
Fred, deciding it was better for them to act as if the connection hadn't happened, started looking for something to wear.
"I'm gonna go change" Fred told Jane before making his was toward the bathroom.
"Oh Merlin, what is wrong with me?" Jane said quietly once she was alone. "He is my best friend, I can't be thinking this way about him" She continued standing up and putting the brush on George's bedside.
"Maybe Cedric was right I'm to young for him and Fred. Maybe if I wait a couple of years I'll be less confused. Yeah that is what I'll do I'll wait till I am older before thinking about romance" And just as she finished that declaration Fred entered, without a shirt, to the room. Jane's thoughts all scattered she was left with her mind in blank staring at Fred.
"Hey, sorry for entering like this but I forgot to take a shirt"
"Oh, um don't wo-worry" Jane said with a trembling voice. Fred smiled and started to look for a shirt. While he was looking he found a jacket which he threw toward Jane.
"Put that on"
"Why?" Jane asked looking at the jacket. It was a varsity jacket with the Gryffindor colors and on the back it said Weasley.
"Well if you go down with only that tank top you are going drive a lot of attention. Jane looked at herself. Her Pyjamas were a black tank top with gray sweat pants.
"Fine, but if I put it on now you are not getting it back" Jane said putting the jacket on. It was soft and way too big for her.
"Fine keep it. Now come on" Fred and Jane left the room and made their way downstairs. When they got to the Common Room nobody payed them any attention. Jane hurried up to her dorm room before sombody did notice she was coming out of the boys stairs. When she got to the dorm room she got dressed in jeans and a black long sleeve shirt. She put on black ankle boots and Fred's jacket.
Back in the common room she noticed Fred and George having an intense conversation. She decided not to interrupt them and made her way toward Harry who was sitting in the couch closer to the fire place.
"Hey Harry" Jane said sitting beside him.
"So you are finally up, Sleeping Beauty" Harry said with an amused tone.
"Ha ha real funny Harry" Jane said. "Anyway, what time is it? I'm hungry"
"It's time for lunch"
"Well let's go" Jane said standing up but Harry looked a little embarrassed.
"Um, I'm waiting for somebody" Harry said blushing.
"Who?" Jane said confused.
"Oh just somebody" Harry said not meeting her eyes. At that moment Ginny emerged from the girls' stairs.
"Oh, is that somebody a petite red-headed girl?" Jane asked clearly amused.
"What makes you say that?" Harry said.
"Oh nothing just the fact that she is coming our way" Jane said and Harry turned to see if Jane was telling the truth. "Anyway, tell Ginny I say hi" Jane added before joining Fred and George who had finished talking and were making their way to the Great Hall.
The Weasley twins and Jane ate in peace without anybody to bother them. After eating Jane separated from them and made her way to the lake. She was still a bit confused of what had happened earlier with Fred. She knew she liked Cedric but apparently she also liked Fred. Once she got to the lake she sat down against her favourite tree. It was cold outside but not cold enough for snow, so it wasn't that uncomfortable. Besides, Jane had Fred's jacket so she was warm and cozy.
"I thought there was nothing between you and Weasley" Cedric said startling Jane a bit.
"There is nothing between me and any Weasley, Cedric" Jane said a bit annoyed.
"Then why are you wearing his jacket?" He said now angry. Jane stood up and looked up to him with black eyes and red hair.
"That is none of your business!" Jane said
"Oh really? Because is the day after we break up you are wearing his jacket and you say it is none of my business?"
"It's not, like you said we are no longer together, so yeah it is none of your business whose jacket I wear" Jane said before leaving the lake.
"Don't walk away, Jane" She stopped and turned.
"Why? Because you say so? Piss off, Cedric" Jane said before continuing her way to the castle. To say Jane was angry was an understatement. She was furious. He was the one who dumped her, why was he so jealous now? What the hell was his problem?
Jane was thinking all this as she made her way to the Common Room. However, she was not looking to where she was going and smacked into someone.
"Whoa, Jane, what is wrong?" George said grabbing her by her upper arms so she didn't fall.
"Nothing is wrong" Jane said angrily shrugging his hands off. He looked at her confused and backed off a bit.
"You sure?"
"Yes, I'm sure" she said pushing past him. She got to the Common Room and without talking to anyone, made her way to her dorm and her bed. She grabbed the diary and once more decided Tom was the only person she could trust.
Sorry for not updating sooner but I've been having major writer's block.
