December came quickly and without any attack however Jane was distancing herself again. For the whole month of November she went to class, ate very little, practiced Quidditch, and wrote to Tom until she fell asleep. She didn't talk to anyone. She was basically a zombie walking aimlessly through her life.

Harry, Hermione, Ron, and Ginny noticed Jane's mood, but couldn't do much about it since most of their time was consumed by finishing the potion. Which was going very well and would be done by Christmas. Luckily for them Malfoy, Crabbe, and Goyle were staying in Hogwarts for the holidays.

"So our plan is to make sure Crabbe and Goyle are incapacitated, take some of their hair and pretend to be them?" Ron asked Hermione. They were on the girls bathroom on Christmas eve recapping their whole plan. "Okay so we got our part of the plan but what are you two going to do?"

"I am going to pretend to be Pansy Parkinson and Ginny is going to stay here waiting for us" Hermione answered without taking her eyes off the potion. They stayed in silence for a couple of minutes, all of them watching the potion.

"So the potion is done, we should really be getting some sleep" Hermione said getting up from the floor. It as after curfew so they had to be invisible. Harry, Ginny, and Ron were under Harry's cloak while Hermione had Jane's bracelet. She had asked Jane for it a month ago since four people under the invisibility cloak was getting somewhat uncomfortable. Jane hadn't even thought about, she had just taken the bracelet off and handed to Hermione without even questioning her or anything. It had worried Hermione but in that moment she had other thing on her plate.

They got to the common room and it was empty. They became visible again and went up to their respective rooms. Hermione entered the second year dorm and looked at Jane's bed sadly. She missed her best friend so much. Sighing she changed into her pajamas and got on her bed. Looking again at Jane's bed she sighed again and closed her bed curtain.

In the morning Jane woke up very early. Since November she had been waking up earlier than anybody else. She didn't want to lose more time than necessary sleeping, since she had been feeling this insane need to write to Tom. It really was scaring her, she shouldn't be so dependent of an inanimate object. This morning she decided to ignore the pull to write and just go downstairs to eat. However, before she could get up, her curtain opened. Hermione was there smiling at her like a crazy person.

"Happy Christmas, Jane!" Hermione yelled while jumping on the bed with her. Jane was still laying on her bed shocked. "You are not allowed to be depressed today, Jane. It's Christmas so smile" Jane looked at her before smiling a little. Hermione's enthusiasm was contagious and really hard to ignore.

"Fine Hermione, but can you let me get up," Jane said. Hermione looked at her before getting off from the bed.

"Fine I'll wait for you downstairs... Oh and before I forget, the potion is ready and we are using it tonight," with that she left Jane alone and stunned. They had finished without her? Maybe she had been spending too much time with the diary. In that moment she realized she had to get rid of that book. With that in mind she got up from her bed, changed her clothes, and went downstairs.

When she got downstairs the four Weasley and her brother looked at her shocked while Hermione smiled. "Told you I could make her come downstairs," she said smiling. Jane forced a smile on her face and approached everyone.

"Happy Christmas" Jane said loud enough so the seven people in the room hears her.

"Happy Christmas!" The Weasley twins yelled and hugged her tight. Both boys had missed hanging out with their best girl friend. A little laugh escaped Jane's mouth. It was hard to stay depressed in the presence of the twins. After everyone hugged Jane they decided to go eat before opening the presents. Actually, Hermione demanded food and everybody else was to scare to go against her.

The Great Hall was heavily decorated but not many people could appreciate it. The four tables were practically empty. Jane couldn't help to wonder why were the four tables necessary if there was only four Hufflepuff, four Slytherin, and seven Ravenclaws. They could have easily fit on one table and still being far enough from each other to not hear private conversation. Jane supposed the only reason to have the four tables was for the sake of tradition.

"So, what should we do after eating?" Hermione asked filling her plate.

"Opening presents, Hermione, like we were planing to do before you dragged us down here," Ron said before shoving food in his mouth. They all looked at him with a disgusted face before resuming their own eating. To the pleasure of everyone on the Gryffindor table, Jane ate a bit more than what she had been eating throughout November.

After eating they went back to the common room. The boys and Ginny were all rushing to get upstairs, while Jane walked calmly and Hermione decided to walk with her. They didn't talk at all, they just walked in a slightly awkward silence.

When the two girls finally got to the common room, the boys and Ginny had already made a mess with the presents. There was paper scattered all over the place Ron and Harry were in an intense struggle with each other, Ginny was laughing so hard she was sprawled on the floor, and Fred and George were looking at Ginny with a up to no good face. Hermione seemed appalled with the scene in front of her, while Jane didn't show any interest. She just walked in and sat down on the couch in front of the fire.

Hermione on the other hand decided that their behavior wasn't acceptable and let out a very loud whistle. Everyone stopped what they were doing and looked at her.

"What the hell is going on?" Hermione said. "Are you out of your mind?"

"Come on Granger," George started.

"It is just a bit of fun," Fred finished.

"Fun my arse, you guys were being savages."

"Stop being so dramatic, Hermione," Ron said sitting beside Jane (who moved a bit away from the red-head).

"Ugh, whatever. Jane come on let's open our presents like civilized people," Jane stood up almost robotically and went to where the presents were. That didn't escape the notice of everyone in the room, however nobody commented on it.

The two girls opened their presents which were, almost all of them, books. The only one that wasn't a book was Jane's present (which she didn't remember buying) to Hermione. It was a board game, one that Hermione was lamenting never having, but always had fun playing it with her cousins. Jane really didn't remember ever getting that game for her, but decided not to mention that when she noticed how happy the game made Hermione be.

"Oh Merlin! Jane this is awesome!" Hermione exclaimed before throwing her arms around Jane and hugging her. Jane was shocked for a moment but recovered quickly and patted Hermione's back awkwardly.

Hermione's exclamation had caught the attention of the other people in the room and everybody wanted to see what was the commotion about.

"What is this?" Ron asked royally confused by Hermione's excitement.

"It's a muggle board game" Hermione answered with a big smile on her face.

"What is so exciting about it?" Harry asked, not knowing many muggle games thanks to his awful aunt and uncle.

"Oh, everything! It is a game of mystery" Hermione said taking the box and looking at it with awe.

"So let's play" George said sitting on the floor. Fred sat beside him looking expectantly at the other kids in the room. Hermione seemed ready to burst of happiness.

They all sat down in a circle and Hermione put the game in the middle and prepared it. She was great at Clue (the game they were about to play), in fact her cousins thought she cheated, when in reality she just observed people and their reaction to the characters, objects, and places. The faces revealed everything she needed to know.

After explaining the rules of the game, the kids started to play. They played for most of the day, until they couldn't ignore their hunger and frustration at Hermione winning each and every game. Even Jane was showing a bit of emotion by their last game.

"You have to be cheating!" Ron exclaimed. "It's impossible to win that many games without cheating" His face was very red and he was expelling anger. He didn't get how this know-it-all was winning so much.

"Nah, don't think she is cheating" George said calmly.

"Oh yeah? What makes you so sure?" Ron said half yelling.

"Please little brother George and I are the kings of cheating, you really believe we wouldn't notice if she was cheating" Fred said.

"Yeah, you say that because you were cheating and still didn't win" Jane said. Everybody was shocked for a second before Fred recovered and exclaimed: "Exactly!" Everyone else groaned and started to pick up the game.

After this everyone went their separate ways. Hermione, Ron, Harry, and Ginny went out to hang out by the lake and talk about their plans. Fred and George went up to their dorm to plan some pranks. Jane sat on one of the couches in the common room unsure of what she should do. She still felt the pull to write but she was sure that wasn't what she should do. Hopefully the Weasley twins would be a distraction and she would be able to resist the pull. With that in mind she went upstairs to the fourth year's boys dorms. Knocking lightly on the door she waited for them to open the door. Some noise was heard inside the room, a crash, a curse, and the door opened reveiling a very messy George. At the sight of Jane he smiled.

"What brings you here my tiny little friend?" he asked curiously.

"Um, well I was wondering if you two needed help or something" she said nerviously.

"George, stop bothering her and let her in" Fred said from inside and George smiled while stepping out of the way. The room was less destroyed than she expected. Fred had fixed most of the mess while George stood in Jane's way when he opened the door.

"We don't actually need help," George started.

"But we never leave a pretty lady alone" Fred finished winking. Jane flushed a little and made her way to Fred's bed. The bed was probably the safest place to be in the room. The twins thought nothing of her place of sitting and started their experiments. The twins worked for hours on their experiments and prank planning while Jane slept on Fred's bed. She had tried to stay awake and give them suggestions but after an hour she couldn't fight against sleep. She was sleeping with her head at the foot of the bed and her legs at the head of the bed. When it was dinner time the twins noticed the sleeping girl and smiled kindly.

"Think we should wake her?" Fred asked George.

"Yeah, she shouldn't miss dinner" George said. Both boys made their way to each side of the bed and sat down on the edge of each side. Jane didn't even stir at the movement.

"Oy, Jane" George said putting his hand on her back. "You should wake up"

"Yeah, it is time for dinner" Fred added shaking her a little. Her green eyes opened and she looked confused at the twins.

"What happened?" She asked.

"Nothing, love, it's just time for dinner" Fred said kindly.

"Oh, okay" Jane said sitting up and rubbing her eyes. The twins stood up and George helped her out of the bed. The trio made their way to the Great Hall where they met the other four Gryffindors staying in the castle.

Dinner was quiet and without any incident and soon they all made their way back to the common room. The Weasley twins went to their dorm claiming to be tired. The other five looked at each other expectanly.

"Well Crabb, Goyle, and Parkinson should be indisposed at the moment so now is our chance" Hermione said taking charge. They all nodded and started making their way out. All but Janee that is, who decided to not go. Harry noticed her lack of movement and stare at her. Silently she shook her head and he shrugged sadly before he left. Jane's actions were worrying but right now he had bigger problems than his twin.
