Character bashing: first off, if you don't like a character, even if you hate a character, bashing is still bashing. It is immature to treat characters as if they are one-dimensional cardboard cut out suffering for the sole purpose of making the protagonist look good. And most of the stories do it to the children themselves. It damages the story about as much as a narrative device possibly could and adds nothing at all.
When a character manipulated events to have, say, Sasuke shit themselves right in the middle of the chunnin exams just to embarrass him- I immediately exit the story. When Dumbledore is lacing the lemon drops in his office with truth serum I exit out of the story. Ron... is not evil. Sakura isn't either. Sasuke may be a bit evil, but he has a damn good excuse and you fucking know it!
Character bashing writers come off as a raging lunatics more than a raging lunatic comes off as a raging lunatic.
The angry mob: Naruto was not beaten as a child. He was not raped or mutilated or sodomized with a hammer. He did not have to sit through torture for days or have his testicles fed to him. Yea, there are angst stories that are good, but torturing Naruto for easy shock value is stupid.
Incest: Kushina is kinda hot...
Abusive parents: this one extends to good old Harry as well. What is the deal? I don't know. Maybe the writers of this 'genre' got beaten as children and that's horrible. There are groups and therapy for that and I encourage you to utilize them. Your still Fucking up the story though by including it.
High school AU's not taking place all in shinji's head: pass. I'd rather give Jesus a rimjob(or maybe he'll give me one?).
To be continued...
