Author's Note: Hey guys! I'm back already! Thanks for all the reviews, and even if you hated it tell me. Constructive criticism is necessary in writing, right?
Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto
Sakura
"Okay, let's see here," I shuffled through my current patient's file. I looked up to a little girl, no more than 10, sniffling as she sat there. Her eyes bloodshot from her tears. Her dark hair was held up in a ribbon. "I'm not gonna die am I?" She whimpered. I gave her a comforting smile, "Says here you ate some bad food, and ended up vomiting for a few hours. Good thing is you got most of it out of your system. Bad thing? You might have a headache for the rest of the day."
"Really?" Her face lit up. "Really. But you shouldn't eat for the rest of the day. Not even a drop of water, okay?"
"I'm not going to die?" Her face hopeful. I gave out a small laugh, "Of course not."
"Thank you so much Dr. Haruno!"
"Now go, you're mom's waiting for you." I gave her one last smile as she ran out. I stood up to put her file away as I heard someone open the door. If it had been merely years before, I would've been shocked to find him at my door, but recently he's always been there. "Hey Sakura."
"That's Dr. Haruno to you." I joked. He closed the door behind him, "I passed my chunin exam." He sat himself comfortably on the chair the girl previously occupied. "Am I supposed to be surprised, Sasuke?" I observed how little he changed over the years. Same hair, same face, same pride. Oh, but different clothes. "Well I was surprised they even let me take the test at all." I nodded not really paying attention to the words as he mindlessly spoke on, and on, and on.
"By the way, I saw Naruto leaving Hinata's apartment a while ago." I looked up immediately, "What?"
"Yeah, I'm guessing he finally found the balls to talk to her again." He continued talking. Naruto? Why? He hadn't thought of her for more than a year, and now he's running to her? Why? I clenched my fist unknowingly.
"I know you've been telling me to keep tabs on Hinata. What she does, what missions she takes."
"So she didn't become a mute." I tried to joke but my mind was on Naruto.
"Anything for you, Sakura."
I slept by him, in a comfortable silence. He was quiet, indicating he was asleep. I couldn't sleep. "This was a mistake, all of it." His words echoed in my head. I shifted to look at the clock. 2:45 AM. My mind was restless. No, Naruto, please don't leave me. The words I ran in my head over and over again.
"I'm sorry…" I turned towards Naruto when I heard him talk in his sleep. I smiled as he apologized. It's okay, Naruto. I still love you.
"...I'm..sorry...Hinata." And my heart nearly stopped. H-Hinata? Why? She left us. She left all of us.
"Hinata."
"Sakura. Sakura!" I snapped out of my thoughts. "Were you even listening to what I said?"
"What?" I took a deep breath. "Nearly a year ago, you remember her first mission?"
I nodded as I was reminded. "A few months after she was discharged from the hospital, she approached Lady Tsunade for a request."
"She requested to take on the mission that she had turned down 5 years prior." He continued, "The kill mission."
"Yeah, the Anbu Black Ops ninja that went rogue. He was a member of the Hyuga clan, and had knowledge of secret information that could've been used against the village. Hinata knew who he was, she refused at first because he had a family. A wife and a kid. That's why she turned down the mission. Then the war ended and it was heard he was starting to sell information. Hinata approached the Hokage on her own terms, and demanded to let her take the mission. I remember that the Hokage was uneasy because of everything that had happened, and how Hinata changed her mind. She tried to make it a 3-man op, but Hinata turned it down and took on the mission herself."
"Yeah, turns out she killed him, and a organization he'd been running that consisted of 5 other people. She killed all of them. She's been taking kill missions since then." Sasuke stood from his seat. I watched as he walked closer to me. "I know that I was like her, and I left, but I'm here now. I'm here for you now, Sakura." I avoided his gaze.
"That's why I believe she won't hesitate for a second to hurt him. I think she might be plotting revenge against Naruto." He spoke again.
"I won't let that happen."
"Sakura you made it!" Ino had yelled out. I looked at everyone laughing, and having a good time. Everyone excluding Neji, Hinata, Kiba, and Shino. Kiba and Shino were out on a mission, and these days they had hardly ever come to gatherings anyway.
"Yeah I finally escaped," I joked.
"Well you're a big shot now, Sakura. Really now, how big's that salary?" TenTen joked in returned. I turned and my eyes fixed on Naruto. He smiled, and I smiled in returned as I made my way over to sit next to him. The night played out like that. Everything is perfect the way they are. Why did Naruto have to turn around and go back to Hinata? She's a different person now. She's cold-hearted, rude, and cruel now. Nothing like the Hinata from back then. Things are fine the way they are now.
Hinata
"I know."
I cried into her shoulder, and as weak as I felt I kept trying to tell myself it was okay this time. "Mama." I opened my eyes to see a girl who had the same black hair as her mother, and the same brown eyes as her father. Kurenai slowly loosened her embraced, and looked behind her. She returned her gaze at me, and gave me the warmest smile. I quickly wiped away my tears, and picked up the present I that I had dropped on the ground.
"I heard today was your birthday." I kneeled so I could see her face to face.
"I got you a present." I continued.
"Present?" She looked curious. I opened the small box, and inside was a small hair clip. It was decorated with a flower. The petals made with pink jewelry, and the core was a small diamond. "Pretty!" She exclaimed as she held it in her hands. I gently took it from her hands, and clipped it in her hair. "Yes, a pretty present for a pretty girl." I told her. "Hinata," Kurenai spoke up, "would you like to come in? We were about to have some cake.
Naruto
"Really, Naruto, you don't have to walk me home." Sakura spoke up. I turned around, "Oh is that what this is?" She punched my shoulder. "Shut up." She joked. It didn't send me flying, but it hurt enough for her to consider it "weak". We arrived at her footstep, and she thanked me, and closed the door behind her. I sighed as I headed towards my apartment.
Hinata. It was weird. It was definitely bothering me. From the things I had heard about her I hadn't expected Hinata to forgive me so easily. When I ran up to her I hadn't expected her to forgive me at all. Hell, the whole thing was on a whim. Because I honestly didn't know why no one else talked to her. I hadn't known her health was out of whack either. I didn't know what I was doing. I just wanted her next to me again. Who she is, what she's done. I don't know. I'm treading on dangerous ground, I know that much. I don't know what she might be planning, but I know that this is my fault, and even if it kills me, I will fix her.
