Diclaimer: Yeah... not mine...

Chapter 11: What's Happening Back Home

Lucy walked up to her future self.

"Lucy", she said and crossed her arms. "Care to tell me why I'm still here?"

Her counterpart from the future looked just as worried as she felt. "I really don't know." She ran her fingers through her hair and groaned. "I'll be honest with you. I've been researching these past few days, just like you but on something different. I went to Magnolia's library and tried to find out about the flow of time and the relation between past, present and future. I experienced the same stuff as you and I was careful not to say anything I haven't been told either, so there really should be no reason for your future to change. If I remember correctly, you should have returned to your time yesterday. And since nothing here changed, something must have happened in the past."

"Something..?" I fidgeted nervously.

"Something meaningful enough to keep you from going back."

It's okay, Lucy. She's been trying to calm herself down for about an hour. Sitting on the unfamiliar bed, in the unfamiliar dorm in an unfamiliar time. Her only hope now, were Natsu and the others. She remembered her dream from the other night. Natsu had noticed her disappearance. He'd definitely do something about it if he had to. But would the master let him? Probably not.

She let herself fall on her back and bounced on the soft mattress a couple of times, as her mind wandered from one problem to another. There had to be a solution. She somehow had to change the past back in order to return to the previous version of her future. But how would she do that? And what exactly caused this whole mess? As she contemplated those thoughts, she drifted off to sleep.

"Natsu, how long are you going to stay there?"

Natsu turned around to look at the small room's entrance. Lisanna was standing there.

He spun around again, facing the door. "I'm not moving from this spot until she returns."

"I understand how you feel, we're all worried, but you need to eat something."

"Happy got me some stuff earlier."

Lisanna looked incredibly worried, but Natsu couldn't see that. He was still staring at the door with prominent rings under his eyes. She was about to leave when he spoke again.

"Don't you think it's strange?"

Lisanna stopped dead in her tracks. "What is?"

"The patterns on this door."

Lisanna's gaze shifted to the door. Now both of them were intently looking at the door. It was a dark blue door and in the middle of it a complicated circle was depicted. A circle showing a golden sun, a silver moon and sparkling stars.

"I don't know about it being strange", Lisanna said bitterly, "but it sure is ironic, I guess." And then she left the room and the scene changed.

"It's been a whole week, gramps!" Natsu shouted, slamming his fist onto the counter.

Master was sitting on one of the stools. Mirajane looked like she was casually wiping some glasses, but if one looked closely, the worry and fear in her face became evident. The rest of the guild was gathered around the fighting duo.

"Natsu, I already told you." Master took a sip of his tea. "She has to come back alone."

"Listen here, gramps." Natsu's voice became lower and trembled. Whether it was because of sadness or rage was hidden in his features. "Lucy's somewhere, all alone. She probably has no clue what's going on. I'm going. You can't stop me."

Master and everybody else fell silent for a few moments. They all knew how precious his partner was to Natsu. "Kid." Master gave Natsu a threatening stare. "Don't you dare do something reckless. I'm worried about her too, but we'll have to trust in her."

Clenching his fists, Natsu clicked his tongue. "One more week." He held up one finger and watched master carefully. "If she's not back within one more week, I'm going. And nothing will stop me." Then he spun around and walked back into the room and the scene blurred and an entirely different sight was shown.

Natsu was sleeping. His back was leaned against one of the walls and his arms were crossed. The guild was noisy as always and the sound could be heard all the way to this small room. Suddenly the door cracked open and a random spear came flying through the open slit. It passed Natsu and stuck to the mysterious door, leaving a crack behind that ran from top to bottom.

Suddenly, the whole room started to shake which caused Natsu to wake up. As soon as his eyes opened, he shot up and searched for the blue door. Seeing the huge crack and the spear, he recalled his dream. A dream about two Lucys. A young and an old one. If he remembered correctly... The gears in Natsu's mind started spinning like crazy, he didn't even notice the others rushing into the room.

"Who did that?" Natsu asked calmly. His being calm was even more terrifying than his usual rage. "WHO THE HELL DID THAT?" He yelled and stared at the people in the room. "She won't be able to come back now..." His gaze fell to the ground and he banged his right fist into the wall behind him.

"Wait, what are you talking about, flame brain?" Gray notice the panic in Natsu's eyes.

"I said that her way back is blocked now."

"But it's just a crack, maybe the door still works?"

"No. I saw her."

"What's that about?"

"I had a dream."

"Natsu." Master walked up to him and lightly shook him. "What dream?"

"I saw Lucy. And an old Lucy."

"That's it, he's lost it", Gray simply stated.

"Be quiet, Gray", Master warned. "What else?" he asked Natsu.

"They were talking about the past having changed and Lucy not being able to return home."

"Master", Erza spoke with her eyes widened by shock. "What does that mean?"

The master turned to the crowd and crossed his hands behind his back. "Actually this door has been built by a mage centuries ago. I don't know why, but somehow it ended up in Fairy Tail's possession. I was told by the previous master that it allows one to travel time, but it was unusable until Lucy disappeared through it."

"But it's not totally destroyed!" Erza exclaimed. "Maybe it's still intact."

Master closed his eyes in resignation. "You noticed it too, didn't you?" Erza clenched her fists and dropped her gaze. "There's no magic in the door anymore. It disappeared completely."
